Abstract: In developing countries, one of the most important
restrictions about the economic growth is the lack of national savings
which are supposed to finance the investments. In order to overcome
this restriction and achieve the higher rate of economic growth by
increasing the level of output, countries choose the external
borrowing. However, there is a dispute in the literature over the
correlation between external debt and economic growth. The aim of
this study is to examine the effects of external debt on Turkish
economic growth by using VAR analysis with the quarterly data over
the period of 2002:01-2014:04. In this respect, Johansen
Cointegration Test, Impulse- Response Function and Variance
Decomposition Tests will be used for analyses. Empirical findings
show that there is no cointegration in the long run.
Abstract: This paper describes a novel sensor device, a pressure
pulse wave meter, which uses a bidirectional condenser microphone.
The microphone work as a microphone as well as a sensor with high
gain over a wide frequency range; they are also highly reliable and
economic. Currently aging is becoming a serious social issue in Japan causing
increased medical expenses in the country. Hence, it is important for
elderly citizens to check health condition at home, and to care the
health conditions through daily monitoring. Given this circumstances,
we developed a novel pressure pulse wave meter based on a
bidirectional condenser microphone: this device is used as a measuring
instrument of health conditions.
Abstract: The using of waste materials in the construction
industry can reduce the dependence on the natural aggregates which
are going at the end to deplete. The glass waste is generated in a huge
amount which can make one of its disposals in concrete industry
effective not only as a green solution but also as an advantage to
enhance the performance of mechanical properties and durability of
concrete. This article reports the performance of concrete specimens
containing different percentages of milled glass waste as a partial
replacement of cement (Powder), when they are subject to cycles of
freezing and thawing. The tests were conducted on 75-mm cubes and
75 x 75 x 300-mm prisms. Compressive strength based on laboratory
testing and non-destructive ultrasonic pulse velocity test were
performed during the action of freezing-thawing cycles (F/T). The
results revealed that the incorporation of glass waste in concrete
mixtures is not only feasible but also showed generally better strength
and durability performance than control concrete mixture. It may be
said that the recycling of waste glass in concrete mixes is not only a
disposal way, but also it can be an exploitation in concrete industry.
Abstract: Si ion implantation was widely used to synthesize
specimens of SiO2 containing supersaturated Si and subsequent high
temperature annealing induces the formation of embedded
luminescent Si nanocrystals. In this work, the potentialities of excimer
UV-light (172 nm, 7.2 eV) irradiation and rapid thermal annealing
(RTA) to enhance the photoluminescence and to achieve low
temperature formation of Si nanocrystals have been investigated. The
Si ions were introduced at acceleration energy of 180 keV to fluence of
7.5 x 1016 ions/cm2. The implanted samples were subsequently
irradiated with an excimer-UV lamp. After the process, the samples
were rapidly thermal annealed before furnace annealing (FA).
Photoluminescence spectra were measured at various stages at the
process. We found that the luminescence intensity is strongly
enhanced with excimer-UV irradiation and RTA. Moreover, effective
visible photoluminescence is found to be observed even after FA at
900 oC, only for specimens treated with excimer-UV lamp and RTA.
We also prepared specimens of Si nanocrystals embedded in a SiO2 by
reactive pulsed laser deposition (PLD) in an oxygen atmosphere. We
will make clear the similarities and differences with the way of
preparation.
Abstract: This paper proposed the comparison made between
Multi-Carrier Pulse Width Modulation, Sinusoidal Pulse Width
Modulation and Selective Harmonic Elimination Pulse Width
Modulation technique for minimization of Total Harmonic Distortion
in Cascaded H-Bridge Multi-Level Inverter. In Multicarrier Pulse
Width Modulation method by using Alternate Position of Disposition
scheme for switching pulse generation to Multi-Level Inverter.
Another carrier based approach; Sinusoidal Pulse Width Modulation
method is also implemented to define the switching pulse generation
system in the multi-level inverter. In Selective Harmonic Elimination
method using Genetic Algorithm and Particle Swarm Optimization
algorithm for define the required switching angles to eliminate low
order harmonics from the inverter output voltage waveform and
reduce the total harmonic distortion value. So, the results validate that
the Selective Harmonic Elimination Pulse Width Modulation method
does capably eliminate a great number of precise harmonics and
minimize the Total Harmonic Distortion value in output voltage
waveform in compared with Multi-Carrier Pulse Width Modulation
method, Sinusoidal Pulse Width Modulation method. In this paper,
comparison of simulation results shows that the Selective Harmonic
Elimination method can attain optimal harmonic minimization
solution better than Multi-Carrier Pulse Width Modulation method,
Sinusoidal Pulse Width Modulation method.
Abstract: The numerical simulation has made tremendous
advances in investigating the blood flow phenomenon through elastic
arteries. Such study can be useful in demonstrating the disease
progression and hemodynamics of cardiovascular diseases such as
atherosclerosis. In the present study, patient specific case diagnosed
with partially stenosed complete right ICA and normal left carotid
bifurcation without any atherosclerotic plaque formation is
considered. 3D patient specific carotid bifurcation model is generated
based on CT scan data using MIMICS-4.0 and numerical analysis is
performed using FSI solver in ANSYS-14.5. The blood flow is
assumed to be incompressible, homogenous and Newtonian, while
the artery wall is assumed to be linearly elastic. The two-way
sequentially coupled transient FSI analysis is performed using FSI
solver for three pulse cycles. The hemodynamic parameters such as
flow pattern, Wall Shear Stress, pressure contours and arterial wall
deformation are studied at the bifurcation and critical zones such as
stenosis. The variation in flow behavior is studied throughout the
pulse cycle. Also, the simulation results reveal that there is a
considerable increase in the flow behavior in stenosed carotid in
contrast to the normal carotid bifurcation system. The investigation
also demonstrates the disturbed flow pattern especially at the
bifurcation and stenosed zone elevating the hemodynamics,
particularly during peak systole and later part of the pulse cycle. The
results obtained agree well with the clinical observation and
demonstrates the potential of patient specific numerical studies in
prognosis of disease progression and plaque rupture.
Abstract: Fast speed drives for Permanent Magnet Synchronous
Motor (PMSM) is a crucial performance for the electric traction
systems. In this paper, PMSM is derived with a Model-based
Predictive Control (MPC) technique. Fast speed tracking is achieved
through optimization of the DC source utilization using MPC. The
technique is based on predicting the optimum voltage vector applied
to the driver. Control technique is investigated by comparing to the
cascaded PI control based on Space Vector Pulse Width Modulation
(SVPWM). MPC and SVPWM-based FOC are implemented with the
TMS320F2812 DSP and its power driver circuits. The designed MPC
for a PMSM drive is experimentally validated on a laboratory test
bench. The performances are compared with those obtained by a
conventional PI-based system in order to highlight the improvements,
especially regarding speed tracking response.
Abstract: Among various active filters, shunt active filter is a
viable solution for reactive power and harmonics compensation. In
this paper, the SRF plan is used to generate current reference for
compensation and conventional PI controllers were used as the
controller to compensate the reactive power. The design of the closed
loop controllers is reserved simple by modeling them as first order
systems. Computationally uncomplicated and efficient SVM system
is used in the present work for better utilization of dc bus voltage.
The rating of shunt active filter has been finalized based on the
reactive power demand of the selected reactive load. The proposed
control and SVM technique are validated by simulating in MATLAB
software.
Abstract: In the present research work we present the optical
emission studies of the Indium (In) – Tin (Sn) plasma produced by
the first (1064 nm) harmonic of an Nd: YAG nanosecond pulsed
laser. The experimentally observed line profiles of neutral Indium (In
I) and Tin (SnI) are used to extract the electron temperature (Te)
using the Boltzmann plot method. Whereas, the electron number
density (Ne) has been determined from the Stark broadening line
profile method. The Te is calculated by varying the distance from the
target surface along the line of propagation of plasma plume and also
by varying the laser irradiance. Beside we have studied the variation
of Ne as a function of laser irradiance as well as its variation with
distance from the target surface.
Abstract: Development of new generation bio-tribological,
multilayer coatings opens an avenue for fabrication of future hightech
functional surfaces. In the presented work, nano-composite,
Cr/CrN+[Cr/ a-C:H implanted by metallic nanocrystals] multilayer
coatings have been developed for surface protection of medical tools.
Thin films were fabricated by a hybrid Pulsed Laser Deposition
technique. Complex microstructure analysis of nanomultilayer
coatings, subjected to mechanical and biological tests, were
performed by means of transmission electron microscopy (TEM).
Microstructure characterization revealed the layered arrangement of
Cr23C6 nanoparticles in multilayer structure. Influence of deposition
conditions on bio-tribological properties of the coatings was studied.
The bio-tests were used as a screening tool for the analyzed
nanomultilayer coatings before they could be deposited on medical
tools. Bio-medical tests were done using fibroblasts. The mechanical
properties of the coatings were investigated by means of a ball-ondisc
mechanical test. The micro hardness was done using Berkovich
indenter. The scratch adhesion test was done using Rockwell
indenter. From the bio-tribological point of view, the optimal
properties had the C106_1 material.
Abstract: In this paper, the dependence of soliton pulses with
respect to phase in a 10Gbps, single channel, dispersion
uncompensated telecommunication system was studied. The
characteristic feature of periodic soliton interaction was noted at the
Interaction point (I=6202.5Km) in one collision length of L=12405.1
Km. The interaction point is located for 10Gbps system with an
initial relative spacing (qo) of soliton as 5.28 using Perturbation
theory. It is shown that, when two in-phase solitons are launched,
they interact at the point I=6202.5 Km, but the interaction could be
restricted with introduction of different phase initially. When the
phase of the input solitons increases, the deviation of soliton pulses at
the ‘I’ also increases. We have successfully demonstrated this effect
in a telecommunication set-up in terms of Quality factor (Q), where
the Q=0 for in-phase soliton. The Q was noted to be 125.9, 38.63,
47.53, 59.60, 161.37, and 78.04 for different phases such as 10o, 20o,
30o, 45o, 60o and 90o degrees respectively at Interaction point (I).
Abstract: This article presents two methods for the
compensation of harmonics generated by a nonlinear load. The first is
the classic method P-Q. The second is the controller by modern
method of artificial intelligence specifically fuzzy logic. Both
methods are applied to a shunt Active Power Filter (sAPF) based on a
three-phase voltage converter at five levels NPC topology. In
calculating the harmonic currents of reference, we use the algorithm
P-Q and pulse generation, we use the intersective PWM. For
flexibility and dynamics, we use fuzzy logic. The results give us clear
that the rate of Harmonic Distortion issued by fuzzy logic is better
than P-Q.
Abstract: Here, we study the characteristic feature of
conventional (ON-OFF keying) and soliton based transmission
system. We consider 20Gbps transmission system implemented with
Conventional Single Mode Fiber (C-SMF) to examine the role of
Gaussian pulse which is the characteristic of conventional
propagation and Hyperbolic-secant pulse which is the characteristic
of soliton propagation in it. We note the influence of these pulses
with respect to different dispersion lengths and soliton period in
conventional and soliton system respectively and evaluate the system
performance in terms of Quality factor. From the analysis, we could
prove that the soliton pulse has the consistent performance even for
long distance without dispersion compensation than the conventional
system as it is robust to dispersion. For the length of transmission of
200Km, soliton system yielded Q of 33.958 while the conventional
system totally exhausted with Q=0.
Abstract: Crosstalk among interconnects and printed-circuit
board (PCB) traces is a major limiting factor of signal quality in highspeed
digital and communication equipments especially when fast
data buses are involved. Such a bus is considered as a planar
multiconductor transmission line. This paper will demonstrate how
the finite difference time domain (FDTD) method provides an exact
solution of the transmission-line equations to analyze the near end
and the far end crosstalk. In addition, this study makes it possible to
analyze the rise time effect on the near and far end voltages of the
victim conductor. The paper also discusses a statistical analysis,
based upon a set of several simulations. Such analysis leads to a
better understanding of the phenomenon and yields useful
information.
Abstract: Non contact evaluation of the thickness of paint
coatings can be attempted by different destructive and nondestructive
methods such as cross-section microscopy, gravimetric mass
measurement, magnetic gauges, Eddy current, ultrasound or
terahertz. Infrared thermography is a nondestructive and non-invasive
method that can be envisaged as a useful tool to measure the surface
thickness variations by analyzing the temperature response. In this
paper, the thermal quadrupole method for two layered samples heated
up with a pulsed excitation is firstly used. By analyzing the thermal
responses as a function of thermal properties and thicknesses of both
layers, optimal parameters for the excitation source can be identified.
Simulations show that a pulsed excitation with duration of ten
milliseconds allows obtaining a substrate-independent thermal
response. Based on this result, an experimental setup consisting of a
near-infrared laser diode and an Infrared camera was next used to
evaluate the variation of paint coating thickness between 60 μm and
130 μm on two samples. Results show that the parameters extracted
for thermal images are correlated with the estimated thicknesses by
the Eddy current methods. The laser pulsed thermography is thus an
interesting alternative nondestructive method that can be moreover
used for nonconductive substrates.
Abstract: Honeys are produced by Apis mellifera and stingless
bees (Meliponini) in Ecuador. We studied honey produced in
beeswax combs by Apis mellifera, and honey produced in pots by
Geotrigona and Scaptotrigona bees. Chloroform extracts of honey
were obtained for fast NMR spectra. The 1D spectra were acquired at
298 K, with a 600 MHz NMR Bruker instrument, using a modified
double pulsed field gradient spin echoes (DPFGSE) sequence.
Signals of 1H NMR spectra were integrated and used as inputs for
PCA, PLS-DA analysis, and labelled sets of classes were successfully
identified, enhancing the separation between the three groups of
honey according to the entomological origin: A. mellifera,
Geotrigona and Scaptotrigona. This procedure is therefore
recommended for authenticity test of honey in Ecuador.
Abstract: This paper proposes five level diode clamped Z source
Inverter. The existing PWM techniques used for ZSI are restricted for
two level. The two level Z Source Inverter have high harmonic
distortions which effects the performance of the grid connected PV
system. To improve the performance of the system the number of
voltage levels in the output waveform need to be increased. This
paper presents comparative analysis of a five level diode clamped Z
source Inverter with different carrier based Modified Pulse Width
Modulation techniques. The parameters considered for comparison
are output voltage, voltage gain, voltage stress across switch and total
harmonic distortion when powered by same DC supply. Analytical
results are verified using MATLAB.
Abstract: Advances in the use of health care technology have
resulted in increased adverse events (AEs) related to the use of
medical devices. The study focused on the existing reporting systems.
This study was conducted in a tertiary care public sector hospital.
Devices included Syringe infusion pumps, Cardiac monitors, Pulse
oximeters, Ventilators and Defibrillators. A total of 211 respondents
were recruited. Interviews were held with 30 key informants. Medical
records were scrutinized. Relevant statistical tests were used.
Resident doctors reported maximum frequency of AEs, followed
by nurses; and least by consultants. A significant association was
found between the cadre of health care personnel and awareness that
the patients and bystanders have a risk of sustaining AE. Awareness
regarding reporting of AEs was low, and it was generally done
verbally. Other critical findings are discussed in the light of the
barriers to reporting, reasons for non-compliance, recording system,
and so on.
Abstract: Ti6Al4V alloy is highly used in the automotive and
aerospace industry due to its good machining characteristics. Micro
EDM drilling is commonly used to drill micro hole on extremely hard
material with very high depth to diameter ratio. In this study, the
parameters of micro-electrical discharge machining (EDM) in drilling
of Ti6Al4V alloy is optimized for higher machining accuracy with
less hole-dilation and hole taper ratio. The micro-EDM machining
parameters includes, peak current and pulse on time. Fuzzy analysis
was developed to evaluate the machining accuracy. The analysis
shows that hole-dilation and hole-taper ratio are increased with the
increasing of peak current and pulse on time. However, the surface
quality deteriorates as the peak current and pulse on time increase.
The combination that gives the optimum result for hole dilation is
medium peak current and short pulse on time. Meanwhile, the
optimum result for hole taper ratio is low peak current and short pulse
on time.
Abstract: Composite material based on Fe3Si micro-particles
and Mn-Zn nano-ferrite was prepared using powder metallurgy
technology. The sol-gel followed by autocombustion process was
used for synthesis of Mn0.8Zn0.2Fe2O4 ferrite. 3 wt.% of mechanically
milled ferrite was mixed with Fe3Si powder alloy. Mixed micro-nano
powder system was homogenized by the Resonant Acoustic Mixing
using ResodynLabRAM Mixer. This non-invasive homogenization
technique was used to preserve spherical morphology of Fe3Si
powder particles. Uniaxial cold pressing in the closed die at pressure
600 MPa was applied to obtain a compact sample. Microwave
sintering of green compact was realized at 800°C, 20 minutes, in air.
Density of the powders and composite was measured by
Hepycnometry. Impulse excitation method was used to measure
elastic properties of sintered composite. Mechanical properties were
evaluated by measurement of transverse rupture strength (TRS) and
Vickers hardness (HV). Resistivity was measured by 4 point probe
method. Ferrite phase distribution in volume of the composite was
documented by metallographic analysis.
It has been found that nano-ferrite particle distributed among
micro- particles of Fe3Si powder alloy led to high relative density
(~93%) and suitable mechanical properties (TRS >100 MPa, HV
~1GPa, E-modulus ~140 GPa) of the composite. High electric
resistivity (R~6.7 ohm.cm) of prepared composite indicate their
potential application as soft magnetic material at medium and high
frequencies.
