Abstract: Effective knowledge support relies on providing
operation-relevant knowledge to workers promptly and accurately. A
knowledge flow represents an individual-s or a group-s
knowledge-needs and referencing behavior of codified knowledge
during operation performance. The flow has been utilized to facilitate
organizational knowledge support by illustrating workers-
knowledge-needs systematically and precisely. However,
conventional knowledge-flow models cannot work well in cooperative
teams, which team members usually have diverse knowledge-needs in
terms of roles. The reason is that those models only provide one single
view to all participants and do not reflect individual knowledge-needs
in flows. Hence, we propose a role-based knowledge-flow view model
in this work. The model builds knowledge-flow views (or virtual
knowledge flows) by creating appropriate virtual knowledge nodes
and generalizing knowledge concepts to required concept levels. The
customized views could represent individual role-s knowledge-needs
in teamwork context. The novel model indicates knowledge-needs in
condensed representation from a roles perspective and enhances the
efficiency of cooperative knowledge support in organizations.
Abstract: RFID (Radio Frequency IDentification) system has
been widely used in our life, such as transport systems, passports,
automotive, animal tracking, human implants, library, and so on.
However, the RFID authentication protocols between RF (Radio
Frequency) tags and the RF readers have been bring about various
privacy problems that anonymity of the tags, tracking, eavesdropping,
and so on. Many researchers have proposed the solution of the
problems. However, they still have the problem, such as location
privacy, mutual authentication. In this paper, we show the problems of
the previous protocols, and then we propose a more secure and
efficient RFID authentication protocol.
Abstract: Road crashes not only claim lives and inflict injuries but also create economic burden to the society due to loss of productivity. The problem of deaths and injuries as a result of road traffic crashes is now acknowledged to be a global phenomenon with authorities in virtually all countries of the world concerned about the growth in the number of people killed and seriously injured on their roads. However, the road crash scenario of a developing country like Bangladesh is much worse comparing with this of developed countries. For developing proper countermeasures it is necessary to identify the factors affecting crash occurrences. The objectives of the study is to examine the effect of district wise road infrastructure, socioeconomic and demographic features on crash occurrence .The unit of analysis will be taken as individual district which has not been explored much in the past. Reported crash data obtained from Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) from the year 2004 to 2010 are utilized to develop negative binomial model. The model result will reveal the effect of road length (both paved and unpaved), road infrastructure and several socio economic characteristics on district level crash frequency in Bangladesh.
Abstract: This study examines the impact of working capital
management on firms- performance and market value of the firms in
Nigeria. A sample of fifty four non-financial quoted firms in Nigeria
listed on the Nigeria Stock Exchange was used for this study. Data
were collected from annual reports of the sampled firms for the
period 1995-2009. This result shows there is a significant negative
relationship between cash conversion cycle and market valuation
and firm-s performance. It also shows that debt ratio is positively
related to market valuation and negatively related firm-s
performance. The findings confirm that there is a significant
relationship between Market valuation, profitability and working
capital component in line with previous studies. This mean that
Nigeria firms should ensure adequate management of working
capital especially cash conversion cycle components of account
receivables, account payables and inventories, as efficiency working
capital management is expected to contribute positively to the firms-
market value.

Abstract: In this paper, the implementation of a rule-based
intuitive reasoner is presented. The implementation included two
parts: the rule induction module and the intuitive reasoner. A large
weather database was acquired as the data source. Twelve weather
variables from those data were chosen as the “target variables"
whose values were predicted by the intuitive reasoner. A “complex"
situation was simulated by making only subsets of the data available
to the rule induction module. As a result, the rules induced were
based on incomplete information with variable levels of certainty.
The certainty level was modeled by a metric called "Strength of
Belief", which was assigned to each rule or datum as ancillary
information about the confidence in its accuracy. Two techniques
were employed to induce rules from the data subsets: decision tree
and multi-polynomial regression, respectively for the discrete and the
continuous type of target variables. The intuitive reasoner was tested
for its ability to use the induced rules to predict the classes of the
discrete target variables and the values of the continuous target
variables. The intuitive reasoner implemented two types of
reasoning: fast and broad where, by analogy to human thought, the
former corresponds to fast decision making and the latter to deeper
contemplation. . For reference, a weather data analysis approach
which had been applied on similar tasks was adopted to analyze the
complete database and create predictive models for the same 12
target variables. The values predicted by the intuitive reasoner and
the reference approach were compared with actual data. The intuitive
reasoner reached near-100% accuracy for two continuous target
variables. For the discrete target variables, the intuitive reasoner
predicted at least 70% as accurately as the reference reasoner. Since
the intuitive reasoner operated on rules derived from only about 10%
of the total data, it demonstrated the potential advantages in dealing
with sparse data sets as compared with conventional methods.
Abstract: Friction stir welding is a solid state joining process. High strength aluminum alloys are widely used in aircraft and marine industries. Generally, the mechanical properties of fusion welded aluminum joints are poor. As friction stir welding occurs in solid state, no solidification structures are created thereby eliminating the brittle and eutectic phases common in fusion welding of high strength aluminum alloys. In this review the process parameters, microstructural evolution, and effect of friction stir welding on the properties of weld specific to aluminum alloys have been discussed.
Abstract: In this paper, we present a novel statistical approach to
corpus-based speech synthesis. Classically, phonetic information is
defined and considered as acoustic reference to be respected. In this
way, many studies were elaborated for acoustical unit classification.
This type of classification allows separating units according to their
symbolic characteristics. Indeed, target cost and concatenation cost
were classically defined for unit selection.
In Corpus-Based Speech Synthesis System, when using large text
corpora, cost functions were limited to a juxtaposition of symbolic
criteria and the acoustic information of units is not exploited in the
definition of the target cost.
In this manuscript, we token in our consideration the unit phonetic
information corresponding to acoustic information. This would be realized
by defining a probabilistic linguistic Bi-grams model basically
used for unit selection. The selected units would be extracted from
the English TIMIT corpora.
Abstract: In this paper variation of spot price and total profits of
the generating companies- through wholesale electricity trading are
discussed with and without Central Generating Stations (CGS) share
and seasonal variations are also considered. It demonstrates how
proper analysis of generators- efficiencies and capabilities, types of
generators owned, fuel costs, transmission losses and settling price
variation using the solutions of Optimal Power Flow (OPF), can
allow companies to maximize overall revenue. It illustrates how
solutions of OPF can be used to maximize companies- revenue under
different scenarios. And is also extended to computation of Available
Transfer Capability (ATC) is very important to the transmission
system security and market forecasting. From these results it is
observed that how crucial it is for companies to plan their daily
operations and is certainly useful in an online environment of
deregulated power system. In this paper above tasks are demonstrated
on 124 bus real-life Indian utility power system of Andhra Pradesh
State Grid and results have been presented and analyzed.
Abstract: Specification-based testing enables us to detect errors
in the implementation of functions defined in given specifications.
Its effectiveness in achieving high path coverage and efficiency in
generating test cases are always major concerns of testers. The automatic
test cases generation approach based on formal specifications
proposed by Liu and Nakajima is aimed at ensuring high effectiveness
and efficiency, but this approach has not been empirically assessed.
In this paper, we present an experiment for assessing Liu-s testing
approach. The result indicates that this testing approach may not be
effective in some circumstances. We discuss the result, analyse the
specific causes for the ineffectiveness, and describe some suggestions
for improvement.
Abstract: Communication is becoming a significant tool to engage stakeholders since half of the century ago. In the recent years, there has been rapid growth of new technology developments. In tandem with such developments, there has been growing emphasis in communication strategies and management especially in determining the level of influence and management strategies among the said stakeholders on particular field. This paper presents a research conceptual framework focusing on stakeholder theories, communication and management strategies to be implied on the engagement of stakeholders of new technology developments of fertilizer industry in Malaysia. Framework espoused in this paper will provide insights into the various stakeholder theories and engagement strategies from different principal necessary for a successful introduction of new technology development in the above stated industry. The proposed framework has theoretical significance in filling the gap of the body of knowledge in the implementation of communication strategies in Malaysian fertilizer industry.
Abstract: Knowledge is attributed to human whose problemsolving
behavior is subjective and complex. In today-s knowledge
economy, the need to manage knowledge produced by a community
of actors cannot be overemphasized. This is due to the fact that
actors possess some level of tacit knowledge which is generally
difficult to articulate. Problem-solving requires searching and sharing
of knowledge among a group of actors in a particular context.
Knowledge expressed within the context of a problem resolution
must be capitalized for future reuse. In this paper, an approach that
permits dynamic capitalization of relevant and reliable actors-
knowledge in solving decision problem following Economic
Intelligence process is proposed. Knowledge annotation method and
temporal attributes are used for handling the complexity in the
communication among actors and in contextualizing expressed
knowledge. A prototype is built to demonstrate the functionalities of
a collaborative Knowledge Management system based on this
approach. It is tested with sample cases and the result showed that
dynamic capitalization leads to knowledge validation hence
increasing reliability of captured knowledge for reuse. The system
can be adapted to various domains.
Abstract: This paper proposes a novel stereo vision technique
for top view book scanners which provide us with dense 3d point
clouds of page surfaces. This is a precondition to dewarp bound
volumes independent of 2d information on the page. Our method is
based on algorithms, which normally require the projection of pattern
sequences with structured light. We use image sequences of the
moving stripe lighting of the top view scanner instead of an additional
light projection. Thus the stereo vision setup is simplified without
losing measurement accuracy. Furthermore we improve a surface
model dewarping method through introducing a difference vector
based on real measurements. Although our proposed method is hardly
expensive neither in calculation time nor in hardware requirements
we present good dewarping results even for difficult examples.
Abstract: The direct implementation of interleaver functions
in WiMAX is not hardware efficient due to presence of complex
functions. Also the conventional method i.e. using memories for
storing the permutation tables is silicon consuming. This work
presents a 2-D transformation for WiMAX channel interleaver
functions which reduces the overall hardware complexity to
compute the interleaver addresses on the fly. A fully reconfigurable
architecture for address generation in WiMAX
channel interleaver is presented, which consume 1.1 k-gates in
total. It can be configured for any block size and any modulation
scheme in WiMAX. The presented architecture can run at a
frequency of 200 MHz, thus fully supporting high bandwidth
requirements for WiMAX.
Abstract: Saudi Arabia in recent years has seen drastic increase
in traffic related crashes. With population of over 29 million, Saudi
Arabia is considered as a fast growing and emerging economy. The
rapid population increase and economic growth has resulted in rapid
expansion of transportation infrastructure, which has led to increase
in road crashes. Saudi Ministry of Interior reported more than 7,000
people killed and 68,000 injured in 2011 ranking Saudi Arabia to be
one of the worst worldwide in traffic safety. The traffic safety issues
in the country also result in distress to road users and cause and
economic loss exceeding 3.7 billion Euros annually. Keeping this in
view, the researchers in Saudi Arabia are investigating ways to
improve traffic safety conditions in the country. This paper presents a
multilevel approach to collect traffic safety related data required to do
traffic safety studies in the region. Two highway corridors including
King Fahd Highway 39 kilometre and Gulf Cooperation Council
Highway 42 kilometre long connecting the cities of Dammam and
Khobar were selected as a study area. Traffic data collected included
traffic counts, crash data, travel time data, and speed data. The
collected data was analysed using geographic information system to
evaluate any correlation. Further research is needed to investigate the
effectiveness of traffic safety related data when collected in a
concerted effort.
Abstract: A new design of a planar passive T-micromixer with fin-shaped baffles in the mixing channel is presented. The mixing efficiency and the level of pressure loss in the channel have been investigated by numerical simulations in the range of Reynolds number (Re) 1 to 50. A Mixing index (Mi) has been defined to quantify the mixing efficiency, which results over 85% at both ends of the Re range, what demonstrates the micromixer can enhance mixing using the mechanisms of diffusion (lower Re) and convection (higher Re). Three geometric dimensions: radius of baffle, baffles pitch and height of the channel define the design parameters, and the mixing index and pressure loss are the performance parameters used to optimize the micromixer geometry with a multi-criteria optimization method. The Pareto front of designs with the optimum trade-offs, maximum mixing index with minimum pressure loss, is obtained. Experiments for qualitative and quantitative validation have been implemented.
Abstract: The online office is one of web application. We can
easily use the online office through a web browser with internet
connected PC. The online office has the advantage of using
environment regardless of location or time. When users want to use the
online office, they access the online office server and use their content.
However, recently developed and launched online office has the
weakness of insufficient consideration. In this paper, we analyze the
security vulnerabilities of the online office. In addition, we propose
the evaluation criteria to make secure online office using Common
Criteria. This evaluation criteria can be used to establish trust between
the online office server and the user. The online office market will be
more active than before.
Abstract: In the paper, the relative performances on spectral
classification of short exon and intron sequences of the human and
eleven model organisms is studied. In the simulations, all
combinations of sixteen one-sequence numerical representations, four
threshold values, and four window lengths are considered. Sequences
of 150-base length are chosen and for each organism, a total of
16,000 sequences are used for training and testing. Results indicate
that an appropriate combination of one-sequence numerical
representation, threshold value, and window length is essential for
arriving at top spectral classification results. For fixed-length
sequences, the precisions on exon and intron classification obtained
for different organisms are not the same because of their genomic
differences. In general, precision increases as sequence length
increases.
Abstract: Based on assumptions of neo-classical economics and
rational choice / public choice theory, this paper investigates the
regulation of industrial land use in Taiwan by homeowners
associations (HOAs) as opposed to traditional government
administration. The comparison, which applies the transaction cost
theory and a polynomial regression analysis, manifested that HOAs
are superior to conventional government administration in terms of
transaction costs and overall efficiency. A case study that compares
Taiwan-s commonhold industrial park, NangKang Software Park, to
traditional government counterparts using limited data on the costs
and returns was analyzed. This empirical study on the relative
efficiency of governmental and private institutions justified the
important theoretical proposition. Numerical results prove the
efficiency of the established model.
Abstract: Modern managements of water distribution system
(WDS) need water quality models that are able to accurately predict
the dynamics of water quality variations within the distribution system
environment. Before water quality models can be applied to solve
system problems, they should be calibrated. Although former
researchers use GA solver to calibrate relative parameters, it is
difficult to apply on the large-scale or medium-scale real system for
long computational time. In this paper a new method is designed
which combines both macro and detailed model to optimize the water
quality parameters. This new combinational algorithm uses radial
basis function (RBF) metamodeling as a surrogate to be optimized for
the purpose of decreasing the times of time-consuming water quality
simulation and can realize rapidly the calibration of pipe wall reaction
coefficients of chlorine model of large-scaled WDS. After two cases
study this method is testified to be more efficient and promising, and
deserve to generalize in the future.
