Abstract: The trend of autonomous vehicles is the future solution to road networks congestion in terms of their advanced ability to drive closer together and at higher speeds than humans can do safely. Infrastructure sector can drive the economic prosperity and provide a balance and inclusive growth of sustainable economy development. In this paper, the road infrastructure and the future development of electric car, self-driving of autonomous vehicles and the increasing demand of automated car parking system are critically revised and this paper aims to provide the insight and achieve better sustainable infrastructure and community in smart city.
Abstract: This paper demonstrates a proof of concept whereby shorter trips and land use densification can be promoted through an alternative approach to planning and implementation of road infrastructure in the South African context. It briefly discusses how the development of the Compact City concept relies on a combination of promoting shorter trips and densification through a change in focus in road infrastructure provision. The methodology developed in this paper uses a traffic model to test the impact of synthesized deterrence functions on congestion locations in the road network through the assignment of traffic on the study network. The results from this study demonstrate that intelligent planning of road infrastructure can indeed promote reduced urban sprawl, increased residential density and mixed-use areas which are supported by an efficient public transport system; and reduced dependence on the freeway network with a fixed road infrastructure budget. The study has resonance for all cities where urban sprawl is seemingly unstoppable.
Abstract: City road transport contributes significantly to climate change, and the ongoing world urbanization is only increasing the problem. The paper describes a city planning concept minimizing the number of vehicles on the roads while increasing overall mobility. This becomes possible by utilizing a recently invented two-level road junction with a unique property of serving both as an intersection of uninterrupted traffic and an easily accessible transport hub capable of accumulating private vehicles, and therefore becoming an especially effective park-and-ride solution, and a logistics or business center. Optimized layouts of city road infrastructure, living and work areas, and major roads are presented. The layouts are suitable both for the development of new cities as well as for the expansion of existing ones. Costs of the infrastructure and a positive impact on climate are evaluated in comparison to current city growth patterns.
Abstract: One of the most critical aspects of the management of road infrastructure is the type and scale of maintenance systems adopted and the consequences of their inadequacy. The performance of road maintenance systems can be assessed by a number of important indicators such as: cost, safety, environmental impact, and level of complaints by users. A review of practice reveals that insufficient level of expenditure or poor management of the road network often has serious consequences for the economic and social life of a country in terms of vehicle operating costs (VOC), travel time costs, accident costs and environmental impact. Despite an increase in the attention paid by global road agencies to the environmental and the road users’ satisfaction, the overwhelming evidence from the available literature agree on the lack of similar levels of attention for the two factors in many developing countries. While many sources agree that the road maintenance backlog is caused by either the shortage of expenditures or lack of proper management or both, it appears that managing the available assets particularly in the developing countries is the main issue. To address this subject, this paper will concentrate on exposing the various issues related to this field.
Abstract: This paper presents a method of evaluating the effect
of aggregate angularity on hot mix asphalt (HMA) properties and its
relationship to the Permanent Deformation resistance. The research
concluded that aggregate particle angularity had a significant effect
on the Permanent Deformation performance, and also that with an
increase in coarse aggregate angularity there was an increase in the
resistance of mixes to Permanent Deformation. A comparison
between the measured data and predictive data of permanent
deformation predictive models showed the limits of existing
prediction models. The numerical analysis described the permanent
deformation zones and concluded that angularity has an effect of the
onset of these zones. Prediction of permanent deformation help road
agencies and by extension economists and engineers determine the
best approach for maintenance, rehabilitation, and new construction
works of the road infrastructure.
Abstract: At the end of the 20th century it was actual the
development of transport corridors and the improvement of their
technical parameters. With this purpose, many countries and Georgia
among them manufacture to construct new highways, railways and
also reconstruction-modernization of the existing transport
infrastructure. It is necessary to explore the artificial structures
(bridges and tunnels) on the existing tracks as they are very old.
Conference report includes the peculiarities of reconstruction of
tunnels, because we think that this theme is important for the
modernization of the existing road infrastructure. We must remark
that the methods of determining mining pressure of tunnel
reconstructions are worked out according to the jobs of new tunnels
but it is necessary to foresee additional mining pressure which will be
formed during their reconstruction. In this report there are given the
methods of figuring the additional mining pressure while
reconstruction of tunnels, there was worked out the computer
program, it is determined that during reconstruction of tunnels the
additional mining pressure is 1/3rd of main mining pressure.
Abstract: Road authorities have confronted problems to
maintaining the serviceability of road infrastructure systems by using
various traditional methods of contracting. As a solution to these
problems, many road authorities have started contracting out road
maintenance works to the private sector based on performance
measures. This contracting method is named Performance-Based
Maintenance Contracting (PBMC). It is considered more costeffective
than other traditional methods of contracting. It has a
substantial success records in many developed and developing
countries over the last two decades. This paper discusses and
analyses the potential issues to be considered before the introduction
of PBMC in a country.
Abstract: We present a non standard Euclidean vehicle
routing problem adding a level of clustering, and we revisit the use
of self-organizing maps as a tool which naturally handles such
problems. We present how they can be used as a main operator
into an evolutionary algorithm to address two conflicting
objectives of route length and distance from customers to bus stops
minimization and to deal with capacity constraints. We apply the
approach to a real-life case of combined clustering and vehicle
routing for the transportation of the 780 employees of an
enterprise. Basing upon a geographic information system we
discuss the influence of road infrastructures on the solutions
generated.
Abstract: Sustainability and sustainable development have been

2000 to confirm the importance of the sustainable development .it

Transportation and mobility are an important part or urban
economics and the quality of life. To analyze urban transportation
and its environmental impacts, a comprehensive approach is needed.
So this research aims to apply new approach for the development of
the urban communities that insure the continuity and facing the
deterioration. This approach aims to integrate sustainable transport
solutions with economic development and community development.
For that purpose we will concentrate on one of the most sustainable
cities in the world (Curitiba in Brazil) which provides the world with
a model in how to integrate sustainable transport considerations into
business development, road infrastructure development, and local
community development.
Abstract: Lack of resources for road infrastructure financing is a
problem that currently affects not only eastern European economies
but also many other countries especially in relation to the impact of
global financial crisis. In this context, we are talking about the socalled
short-investment problem as a result of long-term lack of
investment resources. Based on an analysis of road infrastructure
financing in the Czech Republic this article points out at weaknesses
of current system and proposes a long-term planning methodology
supported by system approach. Within this methodology and using
created system dynamic model the article predicts the development of
short-investment problem in the Country and in reaction on the
downward trend of certain sources the article presents various
scenarios resulting from the change of the structure of financial
sources. In the discussion the article focuses more closely on the
possibility of introduction of tax on vehicles instead of taxes with
declining revenue streams and estimates its approximate price in
relation to reaching various solutions of short-investment in time.
Abstract: Road crashes not only claim lives and inflict injuries but also create economic burden to the society due to loss of productivity. The problem of deaths and injuries as a result of road traffic crashes is now acknowledged to be a global phenomenon with authorities in virtually all countries of the world concerned about the growth in the number of people killed and seriously injured on their roads. However, the road crash scenario of a developing country like Bangladesh is much worse comparing with this of developed countries. For developing proper countermeasures it is necessary to identify the factors affecting crash occurrences. The objectives of the study is to examine the effect of district wise road infrastructure, socioeconomic and demographic features on crash occurrence .The unit of analysis will be taken as individual district which has not been explored much in the past. Reported crash data obtained from Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) from the year 2004 to 2010 are utilized to develop negative binomial model. The model result will reveal the effect of road length (both paved and unpaved), road infrastructure and several socio economic characteristics on district level crash frequency in Bangladesh.
