Abstract: In order to achieve high data rate and increase the
spectral efficiency, multiple input multiple output (MIMO) system has
been proposed. However, multiple antennas are limited by size and
cost. Therefore, recently developed cooperative diversity scheme,
which profits the transmit diversity only with the existing hardware by
constituting a virtual antenna array, can be a solution. However, most
of the introduced cooperative techniques have a common fault of
decreased transmission rate because the destination should receive the
decodable compositions of symbols from the source and the relay. In
this paper, we propose a cooperative cyclic delay diversity (CDD)
scheme that use hierarchical modulation. This scheme is free from the
rate loss and allows seamless cooperative communication.
Abstract: Coal tar is a liquid by-product of coal pyrolysis
processes. This liquid oil mixture contains various kinds of useful
compounds such as benzoic aromatic compounds and phenolic
compounds. These compounds are widely used as raw material for
insecticides, dyes, medicines, perfumes, coloring matters, and many
others. The coal tar was collected by pyrolysis process of coal
obtained from PT Kaltim Prima Coal and Arutmin-Kalimantan. The
experiments typically occurred at the atmospheric pressure in a
laboratory furnace at temperatures ranging from 300 to 550oC with a
heating rate of 10oC/min and a holding time of 1 hour at the pyrolysis
temperature. The Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectroscopy (GC-MS)
was used to analyze the coal tar components. The obtained coal tar
has the viscosity of 3.12 cp, the density of 2.78 g/cm3, the calorific
value of 11,048.44 cal/g, and the molecular weight of 222.67. The
analysis result showed that the coal tar contained more than 78
chemical compounds such as benzene, cresol, phenol, xylene,
naphtalene, etc. The total phenolic compounds contained in coal tar
are 33.25% (PT KPC) and 17.58% (Arutmin-Kalimantan). The total
naphtalene compounds contained in coal tar is 14.15% (PT KPC) and
17.13% (Arutmin-Kalimantan).
Abstract: The purpose of the present study is to find the efficacy
of high school student self-assessment of written production. It aimed
to explore the following two research questions: 1) How is topic
development of their written production improved after student
self-assessment and teacher feedback? 2) Does the consistency
between student self-assessment and teacher assessment develop after
student self-assessment and teacher feedback? The data came from the
written production of 82 Japanese high school students aged from 16
to 18 years old, an American English teacher and one Japanese English
teacher. Students were asked to write English compositions, about 150
words, for thirty minutes without using dictionaries. It was conducted
twice at intervals of two months. Students were supposed to assess
their own compositions by themselves. Teachers also assessed
students’ compositions using the same assessment sheet. The results
showed that both teachers and students assessed the second
compositions higher than the first compositions. However, there was
not the development of the consistency in coherence.
Abstract: Computational fluid dynamics analysis of the burning
of syngas fuels derived from biomass and plastic solid waste mixture
through gasification process is presented in this paper. The syngas
fuel is burned in gas turbine can combustor. Gas turbine can
combustor with swirl is designed to burn the fuel efficiently and
reduce the emissions. The main objective is to test the impact of the
alternative syngas fuel compositions and lower heating value on the
combustion performance and emissions. The syngas fuel is produced
by blending palm kernel shell (PKS) with polyethylene (PE) waste
via catalytic steam gasification (fluidized bed reactor). High
hydrogen content syngas fuel was obtained by mixing 30% PE waste
with PKS. The syngas composition obtained through the gasification
process is 76.2% H2, 8.53% CO, 4.39% CO2 and 10.90% CH4. The
lower heating value of the syngas fuel is LHV = 15.98 MJ/m3. Three
fuels were tested in this study natural gas (100%CH4), syngas fuel
and pure hydrogen (100% H2). The power from the combustor was
kept constant for all the fuels tested in this study. The effect of syngas
fuel composition and lower heating value on the flame shape, gas
temperature, mass of carbon dioxide (CO2) and nitrogen oxides
(NOX) per unit of energy generation is presented in this paper. The
results show an increase of the peak flame temperature and NO mass
fractions for the syngas and hydrogen fuels compared to natural gas
fuel combustion. Lower average CO2 emissions at the exit of the
combustor are obtained for the syngas compared to the natural gas
fuel.
Abstract: Coal fly ash is formed as a solid waste product from
the combustion of coal in coal fired power stations. Huge amounts of
fly ash are produced globally every year and are predicted to
increase. Nowadays, less than half of the fly ash is used as a raw
material for cement manufacturing, construction and the rest of it is
disposed as a waste causing yet another environmental concern. For
this reason, the recycling of this kind of slurries into useful materials
is quite important in terms of economical and environmental aspects.
The purpose of this study is to evaluate the Orhaneli and
Tuncbilek coal fly ashes for utilization in some industrial
applications. Therefore the mineralogical and chemical compositions
of these fly ashes were analyzed by X-ray fluorescence spectroscopy,
ourier-transform infrared spectrometer, and X-ray diffraction. The
silicon (Si) and aluminum (Al) in the fly ashes were activated by
alkali fusion technique with sodium hydroxide. The obtained extracts
were analyzed for Si and Al content by inductively coupled plasma
optical emission spectrometry.
Abstract: Poly bag and mulch films for agricultural field caused
pose environmental problem due to the non-degradable plastics
wastes upon disposal. Thus, a degradable poly bag was designed with
hybrid sago starch (SS) and polyvinyl alcohol (PVA). Two Different
blended compositions of SS and PVA hybrid have been compounded.
Then, the hybrids blended are mixed with linear line density
polyethylene (LLDPE) resin to fabricate poly bag film through
conventional film blowing process. Samples of LLDPE, SS and PVA
hybrid film were exposed to UV light and soil burial. The weight
losses were determined during degradation process. Hybrid film by
degradation of starch was found to hydrolyze and hydroxyl groups
decrease on esterification upon exposure to soil burial and uv
radiation. It was found out that, the hybrid film for 60% of SS
composition showed greatest degradation in soil and UV radiation.
Abstract: The introduction of degradable plastic materials into
agricultural sectors has represented a promising alternative to
promote green agriculture and environmental friendly of modern
farming practices. Major challenges of developing degradable
agricultural films are to identify the most feasible types of
degradation mechanisms, composition of degradable polymers and
related processing techniques. The incorrect choice of degradable
mechanisms to be applied during the degradation process will cause
premature losses of mechanical performance and strength. In order to
achieve controlled process of agricultural film degradation, the
compositions of degradable agricultural film also important in order
to stimulate degradation reaction at required interval of time and to
achieve sustainability of the modern agricultural practices. A set of
photodegradable polyethylene based agricultural film was developed
and produced, following the selective optimization of processing
parameters of the agricultural film manufacturing system. Example of
agricultural films application for oil palm seedlings cultivation is
presented.
Abstract: In the present work, fly ash geopolymer based
composites including polyester (PES) waste were studied. Specimens
of three compositions were prepared: (a) fly ash geopolymer with 5%
PES waste; (b) fly ash geopolymer mortar with 5% PES waste; (c) fly
ash geopolymer mortar with 6.25% PES waste. Compressive and
bending strength measurements, water absorption test and
determination of thermal conductivity coefficient were performed.
The results showed that the addition of sand in a mixture of
geopolymer with 5% PES content led to higher compressive strength,
while it increased water absorption and reduced thermal conductivity
coefficient. The increase of PES addition in geopolymer mortars
resulted in a more dense structure, indicated by the increase of
strength and thermal conductivity and the decrease of water
absorption.
Abstract: Waste silicon carbide (waste SiC) filled high-density
polyethylene (HDPE) with and without surface modifiers were
studied. Two types of surface modifiers namely; high-density
polyethylene-grafted-maleic anhydride (HDPE-g-MA) and 3-aminopropyltriethoxysilane have been used in this study. The
composites were produced using a two roll mill, extruder and shaped
in a hydraulic compression molding machine. The mechanical
properties of polymer composites such as flexural strength and
modulus, impact strength, tensile strength, stiffness and hardness
were investigated over a range of compositions. It was found that,
flexural strength and modulus, tensile modulus and hardness
increased, whereas impact strength and tensile strength decreased
with the increasing in filler contents, compared to the neat HDPE. At
similar filler content, the effect of both surface modifiers increased
flexural modulus, impact strength, tensile strength and stiffness but
reduced the flexural strength. Morphological investigation using
SEM revealed that the improvement in mechanical properties was
due to enhancement of the interfacial adhesion between waste SiC
and HDPE.
Abstract: Compositions of different molar ratios of
polymethylmethacrylate-co-methacrylic acid (PMMA-co-MAA)
were synthesized via free-radical polymerization. Polymer coated
surfaces have been produced on silicon wafers. Coated samples were
analyzed by atomic force microscopy (AFM). The results have shown
that the roughness of the surfaces have increased by increasing the
molar ratio of monomer methacrylic acid (MAA). This study reveals
that the gradual increase in surface roughness is due to the fact that
carboxylic functional groups have been generated by MAA segments.
Such surfaces can be desirable platforms for fabrication of the
biosensors for detection of the viruses and diseases.
Abstract: In this paper, a system of linear matrix equations
is considered. A new necessary and sufficient condition for the
consistency of the equations is derived by means of the generalized
singular-value decomposition, and the explicit representation of the
general solution is provided.
Abstract: Two Lithium Disilicate (LD) glass ceramics based on
SiO2-Li2O-K2O-Al2O3 system were prepared through a glass melting
method. The glass rods were then fabricated into dental crowns via a
hot pressing at 900˚C and 850˚C in order to study the effect of the
pressing temperatures on the phase formation and microstructure of
the glasses. Different samples of as cast glass and heat treated
samples (600˚C and 700˚C) were used to press for investigating the
effect of an initial microstructure on the hot pressing technique. Xray
diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) were
performed to determine the phase formation and microstructure of the
samples, respectively. XRD results show that the main crystalline
structure was Li2Si2O5 by having Li3PO4, Li0.6Al0.6Si2O6, Li2SiO3,
Ca5 (PO4)3F and SiO2 as minor phases. Glass compositions with
different heat treatment temperatures exhibited a difference phase
formations but have less effect during pressing. SEM micrographs
showed the microstructure of Li2Si2O5 as lath-like shape in all
glasses. With increasing the initial heat treatment temperature, the
longer the lath-like crystals of lithium disilicate were increased
especially when using glass heat treatment at 700˚C followed by
pressing at 900˚C. This could be suggested that LD1 heat treatment at
700˚C which pressing at 900˚C presented the best formation by the
hot pressing and compiled microstructure.
Abstract: Pesticides and drugs used in agriculture and veterinary
medicine may end up in aquatic environments and bioaccumulate in
the food chain, thus causing serious problems for fauna and human
health. For determination of the toxic effects of atrazine herbicide on
Caspian kutum, Rutilus frisii kutum larvae, the 96-h LC50 of atrazine
was measured for newly hatched larvae as 18.53 ppm. Toxicity of
atrazine herbicide on Caspian kutum larvae was investigated using
concentrations: 9.25ppm, 4.62 ppm and 2.31 ppm for 7 days.
Comparison of the length, weight and condition factor showed that
no significant differences between atrazine exposed and control
groups. The concentration of Na+, K+, Ca2+, Mg2+ and Cl- in whole
body of larvae in control and atrazine exposure groups were
measured and the results showed that concentrations of all these ions
is higher in atrazine exposure group than control group. It is obvious
from this study that atrazine negatively affects osmoregulation
process and changes ion compositions of the body even at sublethal
concentration and acute exposure but have no effects on growth
parameters of the body.
Abstract: A study was conducted to determine the diversity and
abundance of shorebird species habituating the mudflat area of Jeram
Beach and Remis Beach, Selangor, Peninsular Malaysia. Direct
observation technique (using binoculars and video camera) was
applied to record the presence of bird species in the sampling sites
from August 2013 until July 2014. A total of 32 species of shorebird
were recorded during both migratory and non-migratory seasons. Of
these, eleven species (48%) are migrants, six species (26%) have both
migrant and resident populations, four species (17%) are vagrants and
two species (9%) are residents. The compositions of the birds
differed significantly in all months (χ2 = 84.35, p < 0.001). There is a
significant difference in avian abundance between migratory and
non-migratory seasons (Mann-Whitney, t = 2.39, p = 0.036). The
avian abundance were differed significantly in Jeram and Remis
Beaches during migratory periods (t = 4.39, p = 0.001) but not during
non-migratory periods (t = 0.78, p = 0.456). Shorebird diversity was
also affected by tidal cycle. There is a significance difference
between high tide and low tide (Mann-Whitney, t = 78.0, p < 0.005).
Frequency of disturbance also affected the shorebird distribution
(Mann-Whitney, t = 57.0, p = 0.0134). Therefore, this study
concluded that tides and disturbances are two factors that affecting
temporal distribution of shorebird in mudflats area.
Abstract: In the present work, the effects of additives, including
contents of the added antioxidants and type of the selected metallic
stearates (either calcium stearate (CaSt) or zinc stearate (ZnSt)), on
the thermal stabilities of carbon black (CB)/high density polyethylene
(HDPE) compounds were studied. The results showed that the AO
contents played a key role in the thermal stabilities of the CB/HDPE
compounds — the higher the AO content, the higher the thermal
stabilities. Although the CaSt-containing compounds were slightly
superior to those with ZnSt in terms of the thermal stabilities, the
remaining solid residue of CaSt after heated to the temperature of 600
°C (mainly calcium carbonate (CaCO3) as characterized by the X-ray
diffraction (XRD) technique) seemed to catalyze the decomposition
of CB in the HDPE-based compounds. Hence, the quantification of
CB in the CaSt-containing compounds with a muffle furnace gave an
inaccurate CB content — much lower than actual value. However,
this phenomenon was negligible in the ZnSt-containing system.
Abstract: A phase diagram of the Ag2SO4 - CaSO4 (Silver sulphate – Calcium Sulphate) binaries system using conductivity, XRD (X-Ray Diffraction Technique) and DTA (Differential Thermal Analysis) data is constructed. The eutectic reaction (liquid -» a-Ag2SO4 + CaSO4) is observed at 10 mole% CaSO4 and 645°C. Room temperature solid solubility limit up to 5.27 mole % of Ca 2+ in Ag2SO4 is set using X-ray powder diffraction and scanning electron microscopy results. All compositions beyond this limit are two-phase mixtures below and above the transition temperature (≈ 416°C). The bulk conductivity, obtained following complex impedance spectroscopy, is found decreasing with increase in CaSO4 content. Amongst other binary compositions, the 80AgSO4-20CaSO4 gave improved sinterability/packing density.
Abstract: In this paper, sodium borosilicates glasses were prepared by melting in air. These heat-resistant transparent glasses have subjected subsequently isothermal treatments at different times, which have transformed them at opaque glass (milky white color). Such changes indicate that these glasses showed clearly phase separation (immiscibility). The immiscibility region in a sodium borosilicate ternary system was investigated in this work, i.e. to determine the regions from which some compositions can show phase separation. For this we went through the conditions of thermodynamic equilibrium, which were translated later by mathematical equations to find an approximate solution. The latter has been translated in a simulation which was established thereafter to find the immiscibility regions in this type of special glasses.
Abstract: The main objective of the research in this paper is to empirically assess the causal relationship of private savings and economic growth in the Republic of Croatia. Households’ savings are approximated by household deposits in banks, while domestic income is approximated by industrial production volume indices. Vector Autoregression model and Granger causality tests are used to in order to analyse the relationship among private savings and economic growth. Since ADF unit root tests have shown that both mentioned series are non stationary at levels, series are first differenced in order to become stationary. Therefore, VAR model is estimated with percentage change in private savings and percentage change in domestic income, which can be interpreted as economic growth in case of positive percentage change in domestic income. The Granger causality test has shown that there is no causal relationship among private savings and economic growth in Croatia. The impulse response functions have shown that the impact of shock in domestic income on private savings change is stronger than the impact of private saving on growth. Variance decompositions show that both economic growth and private saving change explain the largest part of its own forecast variance. The research has shown that the link between private savings economic and growth in Croatia is weak, what is in line with relevant empirical research in small open economies.
Abstract: The new, polymer composites consisting of e-glass fiber reinforcement with titanium oxide filler in the double bonded unsaturated polyester resin matrix were made. The glass fiber and titanium oxide reinforcement composites were made in three different fiber lengths (3cm, 5cm, and 7cm), filler content (2 wt%, 4 wt%, and 6 wt%) and fiber content (20 wt%, 40 wt%, and 60 wt%). 27 different compositions were fabricated and a sequence of experiments were carried out to determine tensile strength and impact strength. The vital influencing factors fiber length, fiber content and filler content were chosen as 3 factors in 3 levels of Taguchi’s L9 orthogonal array. The influences of parameters were determined for tensile strength and impact strength by Analysis of variance (ANOVA) and S/N ratio. Using Artificial Neural Network (ANN) an expert system was devised to predict the properties of hybrid reinforcement GFRP composites. The predict models were experimentally proved with the maximum coincidence.
Abstract: This work was focused in to study the compatibility, dispersion and exfoliation of modified nanoclays in biodegradable polymers and evaluate its effect on the physical, mechanical and thermal properties on the biodegradable matrix used. The formulations have been developed with polylactic acid (PLA) and organically modified montmorillonite-type commercial nanoclays (Cloisite 15, Cloisite 20, and Cloisite 30B) in the presence of a plasticizer agent, specifically Polyethylene Glycol of low molecular weight. Different compositions were evaluated, in order to identify the influence of each nanoclayin the polymeric matrix. The mixtures were characterized by thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), X-ray diffraction (DRX), transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and Tensile Test. These tests have allowed understanding the behavior of each of the mixtures developed.
