Abstract: Injection forging is a Nett-shape manufacturing
process in which one or two punches move axially causing a radial
flow into a die cavity in a form which is prescribed by the exitgeometry,
such as pulley, flanges, gears and splines on a shaft. This
paper presents an experimental and numerical study of the injection
forging of splines in terms of load requirement and material flow.
Three dimensional finite element analyses are used to investigate the
effect of some important parameters in this process. The experiment
has been carried out using solid commercial lead billets with two
different billet diameters and four different dies.
Abstract: Fair share is one of the scheduling objectives supported on many production systems. However, fair share has been shown to cause performance problems for some users, especially the users with difficult jobs. This work is focusing on extending goaloriented parallel computer job scheduling policies to cover the fair share objective. Goal-oriented parallel computer job scheduling policies have been shown to achieve good scheduling performances when conflicting objectives are required. Goal-oriented policies achieve such good performance by using anytime combinatorial search techniques to find a good compromised schedule within a time limit. The experimental results show that the proposed goal-oriented parallel computer job scheduling policy (namely Tradeofffs( Tw:avgX)) achieves good scheduling performances and also provides good fair share performance.
Abstract: The main objective of this project is to build an
autonomous microcontroller-based mobile robot for a local robot
soccer competition. The black competition field is equipped with
white lines to serve as the guidance path for competing robots. Two
prototypes of soccer robot embedded with the Basic Stamp II
microcontroller have been developed. Two servo motors are used as
the drive train for the first prototype whereas the second prototype
uses two DC motors as its drive train. To sense the lines, lightdependent
resistors (LDRs) supply the analog inputs for the
microcontroller. The performances of both prototypes are evaluated.
The DC motor-driven robot has produced better trajectory control
over the one using servo motors and has brought the team into the
final round.
Abstract: One of the most important requirements for the
operation and planning activities of an electrical utility is the
prediction of load for the next hour to several days out, known as
short term load forecasting. This paper presents the development of
an artificial neural network based short-term load forecasting model.
The model can forecast daily load profiles with a load time of one
day for next 24 hours. In this method can divide days of year with
using average temperature. Groups make according linearity rate of
curve. Ultimate forecast for each group obtain with considering
weekday and weekend. This paper investigates effects of temperature
and humidity on consuming curve. For forecasting load curve of
holidays at first forecast pick and valley and then the neural network
forecast is re-shaped with the new data. The ANN-based load models
are trained using hourly historical. Load data and daily historical
max/min temperature and humidity data. The results of testing the
system on data from Yazd utility are reported.
Abstract: The halophilic proteinase showed a maximal activity
at 50°C and pH 9~10, in 20% NaCl and was highly stabilized by
NaCl. It was able to hydrolyse natural actomyosin (NAM), collagen
and anchovy protein. For NAM hydrolysis, the myosin heavy chain
was completely digested by halophilic proteinase as evidenced by the
lowest band intensity remaining, but partially hydrolysed actin. The
SR5-3 proteinase was also capable hydrolyzing two major
components of collagen, β- and α-compounds, effectively. The
degree of hydrolysis (DH) of the halophilic proteinase and
commercial proteinases (Novozyme, Neutrase, chymotrypsin and
Flavourzyme) on the anchovy protein, were compared, and it was
found that the proteinase showed a greater degree of hydrolysis
towards anchovy protein than that from commercial proteinases. DH
of halophilic proteinase was sharply enhanced according to the
increase in the concentration of enzyme from 0.035 U to 0.105 U.
The results warranting that the acceleration of the production of fish
sauce with higher quality, may be achieved by adding of the
halophilic proteinase from this bacterium.
Abstract: The dental composites are preferably used as filling
materials due to their esthetic appearances. Nevertheless one of the
major problems, during the application of the dental composites, is
shape change named as “polymerisation shrinkage" affecting clinical
success of the dental restoration while photo-polymerisation.
Polymerisation shrinkage of composites arises basically from the
formation of a polymer due to the monomer transformation which
composes of an organic matrix phase. It was sought, throughout this
study, to detect and evaluate the structural polymerisation shrinkage
of prepared dental composites in order to optimize the effects of
various fillers included in hydroxyapatite (HA)-reinforced dental
composites and hence to find a means to modify the properties of
these dental composites prepared with defined parameters. As a
result, the shrinkage values of the experimental dental composites
were decreased by increasing the filler content of composites and the
composition of different fillers used had effect on the shrinkage of
the prepared composite systems.
Abstract: Online news websites are one of the main and wide areas of Mass Media. Since the nineties several Jordanian newspapers were introduced to the World Wide Web to reach various and large numbers of audiances. Examples of these newspapers that have online version are Al-Rai, Ad-Dustor and AlGhad. Other pure online news websites include Ammon and Rum. The main aim of this study is to evaluate online newspaper websites using two assessment measures; usability and web content. This aim is achieved by using a questionnaire based evaluation which is based on the definition of usability and web content in the ISO document as the standard number 9241-part 11. The results are obtained based on 204 audiences- responses. The results of the research showed that the usability factor is relatively good for all Jordanian online newspapers whereas the web content factor is moderate.
Abstract: Attitude control of aerospace system with liquid containers may face to a problem associate with fuel sloshing. The sloshing phenomena can degrade the stability of control system and in the worst case, interaction between the attitude control system and fuel vibration leading to resonance. In this paper, a full process of nonlinear dynamic modeling of an aerospace launch vehicle with fuel sloshing is given. Then, a new control system based on model reference adaptive filter is proposed and its algorithm is extracted. This controller implemented on the main attitude control system. Finally, numerical simulation of nonlinear model and control system is carried out to examine the performance of the new controller. Results of simulations show that the inconvenient effects of the fuel sloshing by augmenting this control system are reduced and attitude control system performs, satisfactorily.
Abstract: The flow and heat transfer mechanism in convex
corrugated tubes have been investigated through numerical
simulations in this paper. Two kinds of tube types named as symmetric
corrugated tube (SCT) and asymmetric corrugated tube (ACT) are
modeled and studied numerically based on the RST model. The
predictive capability of RST model is examined in the corrugation wall
in order to check the reliability of RST model under the corrugation
wall condition. We propose a comparison between the RST modelling
the corrugation wall with existing direct numerical simulation of Maaß
C and Schumann U [14]. The numerical results pressure coefficient at
different profiles between RST and DNS are well matched. The
influences of large corrugation tough radii to heat transfer and flow
characteristic had been considered. Flow and heat transfer comparison
between SCT and ACT had been discussed. The numerical results
show that ACT exhibits higher overall heat transfer performance than
SCT.
Abstract: The new technology of fuzzy neural networks for identification of parameters for mathematical models of geofields is proposed and checked. The effectiveness of that soft computing technology is demonstrated, especially in the early stage of modeling, when the information is uncertain and limited.
Abstract: Dorsal hand vein pattern is an emerging biometric which is attracting the attention of researchers, of late. Research is being carried out on existing techniques in the hope of improving them or finding more efficient ones. In this work, Principle Component Analysis (PCA) , which is a successful method, originally applied on face biometric is being modified using Cholesky decomposition and Lanczos algorithm to extract the dorsal hand vein features. This modified technique decreases the number of computation and hence decreases the processing time. The eigenveins were successfully computed and projected onto the vein space. The system was tested on a database of 200 images and using a threshold value of 0.9 to obtain the False Acceptance Rate (FAR) and False Rejection Rate (FRR). This modified algorithm is desirable when developing biometric security system since it significantly decreases the matching time.
Abstract: The energy consumption and delay in read/write
operation of conventional SRAM is investigated analytically as well
as by simulation. Explicit analytical expressions for the energy
consumption and delay in read and write operation as a function of
device parameters and supply voltage are derived. The expressions are
useful in predicting the effect of parameter changes on the energy
consumption and speed as well as in optimizing the design of
conventional SRAM. HSPICE simulation in standard 0.25μm CMOS
technology confirms precision of analytical expressions derived from
this paper.
Abstract: This paper presents an optimal design of linear phase
digital high pass finite impulse response (FIR) filter using Improved
Particle Swarm Optimization (IPSO). In the design process, the filter
length, pass band and stop band frequencies, feasible pass band and
stop band ripple sizes are specified. FIR filter design is a multi-modal
optimization problem. An iterative method is introduced to find the
optimal solution of FIR filter design problem. Evolutionary
algorithms like real code genetic algorithm (RGA), particle swarm
optimization (PSO), improved particle swarm optimization (IPSO)
have been used in this work for the design of linear phase high pass
FIR filter. IPSO is an improved PSO that proposes a new definition
for the velocity vector and swarm updating and hence the solution
quality is improved. A comparison of simulation results reveals the
optimization efficacy of the algorithm over the prevailing
optimization techniques for the solution of the multimodal, nondifferentiable,
highly non-linear, and constrained FIR filter design
problems.
Abstract: In this paper, we present a novel objective nonreference performance assessment algorithm for image fusion. It takes into account local measurements to estimate how well the important information in the source images is represented by the fused image. The metric is based on the Universal Image Quality Index and uses the similarity between blocks of pixels in the input images and the fused image as the weighting factors for the metrics. Experimental results confirm that the values of the proposed metrics correlate well with the subjective quality of the fused images, giving a significant improvement over standard measures based on mean squared error and mutual information.
Abstract: Iranians- imagination of heaven, which is the reward
of a person-s good deeds during their life, has shown itself in
pleasant and green gardens where earthly gardens were made as
representations of paradise. Iranians are also quite interested in
making their earthly gardens and plantations around their buildings.
With Iran-s hot and dry climate with a lack of sufficient water for
plantation coverage, it becomes noticeable how important it is to
Iranians- art in making gardens. This study, with regard to examples,
documents and library studies, investigates the characteristics of
Persian gardens. The result shows that elements such as soil, water,
plants and layout have been used in forming a unique style of Persian
gardens. Bagh-e Shah Zadeh Mahan (Mahan prince garden) is a
typical example and has been carefully studied. In this paper I try to
investigate and evaluate the characteristics of a Persian garden by
means of a descriptive approach.
Abstract: Experiments were carried out to evaluate the
influence of the addition of hydrogen to the inlet air on the
performance of a single cylinder direct injection diesel engine.
Hydrogen was injected in the inlet manifold. The addition of
hydrogen was done on energy replacement basis. It was found that
the addition of hydrogen improves the combustion process due to
superior combustion characteristics of hydrogen in comparison to
conventional diesel fuels. It was also found that 10% energy
replacement improves the engine thermal efficiency by about 40%
and reduces the sfc by about 35% however the volumetric efficiency
was reduced by about 35%.
Abstract: The paper contains a review of the literature in terms of the critical analysis of methodologies of university ranking systems. Furthermore, the initiatives supported by the European Commission (U-Map, U-Multirank) and CHE Ranking are described. Special attention is paid to the tendencies in the development of ranking systems. According to the author, the ranking organizations should abandon the classic form of ranking, namely a hierarchical ordering of universities from “the best" to “the worse". In the empirical part of this paper, using one of the method of cluster analysis called k-means clustering, the author presents university classifications of the top universities from the Shanghai Jiao Tong University-s (SJTU) Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU).
Abstract: A nucleotide sequence can be expressed as a numerical sequence when each nucleotide is assigned its proton number. A resulting gene numerical sequence can be investigated for its fractal dimension in terms of evolution and chemical properties for comparative studies. We have investigated such nucleotide fluctuation in the 16S rRNA gene of archaea thermophiles. The studied archaea thermophiles were archaeoglobus fulgidus, methanothermobacter thermautotrophicus, methanocaldococcus jannaschii, pyrococcus horikoshii, and thermoplasma acidophilum. The studied five archaea-euryarchaeota thermophiles have fractal dimension values ranging from 1.93 to 1.97. Computer simulation shows that random sequences would have an average of about 2 with a standard deviation about 0.015. The fractal dimension was found to correlate (negative correlation) with the thermophile-s optimal growth temperature with R2 value of 0.90 (N =5). The inclusion of two aracheae-crenarchaeota thermophiles reduces the R2 value to 0.66 (N = 7). Further inclusion of two bacterial thermophiles reduces the R2 value to 0.50 (N =9). The fractal dimension is correlated (positive) to the sequence GC content with an R2 value of 0.89 for the five archaea-euryarchaeota thermophiles (and 0.74 for the entire set of N = 9), although computer simulation shows little correlation. The highest correlation (positive) was found to be between the fractal dimension and di-nucleotide Shannon entropy. However Shannon entropy and sequence GC content were observed to correlate with optimal growth temperature having an R2 of 0.8 (negative), and 0.88 (positive), respectively, for the entire set of 9 thermophiles; thus the correlation lacks species specificity. Together with another correlation study of bacterial radiation dosage with RecA repair gene sequence fractal dimension, it is postulated that fractal dimension analysis is a sensitive tool for studying the relationship between genotype and phenotype among closely related sequences.
Abstract: We develop new nonlinear methods of
immunofluorescence analysis for a sensitive technology of
respiratory burst reaction of DNA fluorescence due to oxidative
activity in the peripheral blood neutrophils. Histograms in flow
cytometry experiments represent a fluorescence flashes frequency as
functions of fluorescence intensity. We used the Shannon-Weaver
index for definition of neutrophils- biodiversity and Hurst index for
definition of fractal-s correlations in immunofluorescence for
different donors, as the basic quantitative criteria for medical
diagnostics of health status. We analyze frequencies of flashes,
information, Shannon entropies and their fractals in
immunofluorescence networks due to reduction of histogram range.
We found the number of simplest universal correlations for
biodiversity, information and Hurst index in diagnostics and
classification of pathologies for wide spectra of diseases. In addition
is determined the clear criterion of a common immunity and human
health status in a form of yes/no answers type. These answers based
on peculiarities of information in immunofluorescence networks and
biodiversity of neutrophils. Experimental data analysis has shown the
existence of homeostasis for information entropy in oxidative activity
of DNA in neutrophil nuclei for all donors.
Abstract: High employee turnover rate in Malaysia-s retail industry has become a major issue that needs to be addressed. This study determines the levels of job satisfaction, organizational commitment, and turnover intention of employees in a retail company in Malaysia. The relationships between job satisfaction and organizational commitment on turnover intention are also investigated. A questionnaire was developed using Job Descriptive Index, Organizational Commitment Questionnaire, and Lee and Mowday-s turnover intention items and data were collected from 62 respondents. The findings suggested that the respondents were moderately satisfied with job satisfaction facets such as promotion, work itself, co-workers, and supervisors but were unsatisfied with salary. They also had moderate commitment level with considerably high intention to leave the organization. All satisfaction facets (except for co-workers) and organizational commitment were significantly and negatively related to turnover intention. Based on the findings, retention strategies of retail employees were proposed.
