Abstract: A simple and robust approach for developing secure software. A Four Phase methodology consists in developing the non-secure software in phase one, and for the next three phases, one phase for each of the secure developing types (i.e. self-protected software, secure code transformation, and the secure shield). Our methodology requires first the determination and understanding of the type of security level needed for the software. The methodology proposes the use of several teams to accomplish this task. One Software Engineering Developing Team, a Compiler Team, a Specification and Requirements Testing Team, and for each of the secure software developing types: three teams of Secure Software Developing, three teams of Code Breakers, and three teams of Intrusion Analysis. These teams will interact among each other and make decisions to provide a secure software code protected against a required level of intruder.
Abstract: Coffee is a widely consumed beverage with many components such as caffeine, flavonoids, phenolic compounds, and minerals. Coffee consumption continues to increase due to its physiological effects, its pleasant taste, and aroma. Robusta and Arabica are two basic types of coffee beans. The coffee bean used for Turkish coffee is Arabica. There are many elements in the structure of coffee and have various effect on human health such as Sodium (Na), Boron (B), Magnesium (Mg) and Iron (Fe). In this study, the amounts of Mg, Na, Fe, and B contents in Turkish coffee are determined and effect of sugar addition is investigated for conscious consumption. The analysis of the contents of coffees was determined by using inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectrometry (ICP-OES). From the results of the experiments the Mg, Na, Fe and B contents of Turkish coffee after sugar addition were found as 19.83, 1.04, 0.02, 0.21 ppm, while without using sugar these concentrations were found 21.46, 0.81, 0.008 and 0.16 ppm. In addition, element contents were calculated for 1, 3 and 5 cups of coffee in order to investigate the health effects.
Abstract: Proper selection of welding parameters for getting
excellent weld is a challenge. HAZ simulation helps in identifying
suitable welding parameters like heating rate, cooling rate, peak
temperature, and energy input. In this study, the influence of weld
thermal cycle of heat affected zone (HAZ) is simulated for
Submerged Arc Welding (SAW) using Gleeble ® 3800 thermomechanical
simulator. A (Micro-alloyed) MA steel plate of thickness
18 mm having yield strength 450MPa is used for making test
specimens. Determination of the mechanical properties of weld
simulated specimens including Charpy V-notch toughness and
hardness is performed. Peak temperatures of 1300°C, 1150°C,
1000°C, 900°C, 800°C, heat energy input of 22KJ/cm and preheat
temperatures of 30°C have been used with Rykalin-3D simulation
model. It is found that the impact toughness (75J) is the best for the
simulated HAZ specimen at the peak temperature 900ºC. For parent
steel, impact toughness value is 26.8J at -50°C in transverse
direction.
Abstract: Topology optimization technique utilizes constant
element densities as design parameters. Finally, optimal distribution
contours of the material densities between voids (0) and solids (1) in
design domain represent the determination of topology. It means that
regions with element density values become occupied by solids in
design domain, while there are only void phases in regions where no
density values exist. Therefore the void regions of topology
optimization results provide design information to decide appropriate
depositions of web-opening in structure. Contrary to the basic
objective of the topology optimization technique which is to obtain
optimal topology of structures, this present study proposes a new idea
that topology optimization results can be also utilized for decision of
proper web-opening’s position. Numerical examples of linear
elastostatic structures demonstrate efficiency of methodological
design processes using topology optimization in order to determinate
the proper deposition of web-openings.
Abstract: The main purpose of this article is to provide a comprehensive review of various physical and chemical processes for electronic waste (e-waste) recycling, their advantages and shortfalls towards achieving a cleaner process of waste utilization, with especial attention towards extraction of metallic values. Current status and future perspectives of waste printed circuit boards (PCBs) recycling are described. E-waste characterization, dismantling/ disassembly methods, liberation and classification processes, composition determination techniques are covered. Manual selective dismantling and metal-nonmetal liberation at – 150 µm at two step crushing are found to be the best. After size reduction, mainly physical separation/concentration processes employing gravity, electrostatic, magnetic separators, froth floatation etc., which are commonly used in mineral processing, have been critically reviewed here for separation of metals and non-metals, along with useful utilizations of the non-metallic materials. The recovery of metals from e-waste material after physical separation through pyrometallurgical, hydrometallurgical or biohydrometallurgical routes is also discussed along with purification and refining and some suitable flowsheets are also given. It seems that hydrometallurgical route will be a key player in the base and precious metals recoveries from e-waste. E-waste recycling will be a very important sector in the near future from economic and environmental perspectives.
Abstract: Wetting efficiency of microstructures or nanostructures patterned on Si wafers is a real challenge in integrated circuits manufacturing. In fact, bad or non-uniform wetting during wet processes limits chemical reactions and can lead to non-complete etching or cleaning inside the patterns and device defectivity. This issue is more and more important with the transistors size shrinkage and concerns mainly high aspect ratio structures. Deep Trench Isolation (DTI) structures enabling pixels’ isolation in imaging devices are subject to this phenomenon. While low-frequency acoustic reflectometry principle is a well-known method for Non Destructive Test applications, we have recently shown that it is also well suited for nanostructures wetting characterization in a higher frequency range. In this paper, we present a high-frequency acoustic reflectometry characterization of DTI wetting through a confrontation of both experimental and modeling results. The acoustic method proposed is based on the evaluation of the reflection of a longitudinal acoustic wave generated by a 100 µm diameter ZnO piezoelectric transducer sputtered on the silicon wafer backside using MEMS technologies. The transducers have been fabricated to work at 5 GHz corresponding to a wavelength of 1.7 µm in silicon. The DTI studied structures, manufactured on the wafer frontside, are crossing trenches of 200 nm wide and 4 µm deep (aspect ratio of 20) etched into a Si wafer frontside. In that case, the acoustic signal reflection occurs at the bottom and at the top of the DTI enabling its characterization by monitoring the electrical reflection coefficient of the transducer. A Finite Difference Time Domain (FDTD) model has been developed to predict the behavior of the emitted wave. The model shows that the separation of the reflected echoes (top and bottom of the DTI) from different acoustic modes is possible at 5 Ghz. A good correspondence between experimental and theoretical signals is observed. The model enables the identification of the different acoustic modes. The evaluation of DTI wetting is then performed by focusing on the first reflected echo obtained through the reflection at Si bottom interface, where wetting efficiency is crucial. The reflection coefficient is measured with different water / ethanol mixtures (tunable surface tension) deposited on the wafer frontside. Two cases are studied: with and without PFTS hydrophobic treatment. In the untreated surface case, acoustic reflection coefficient values with water show that liquid imbibition is partial. In the treated surface case, the acoustic reflection is total with water (no liquid in DTI). The impalement of the liquid occurs for a specific surface tension but it is still partial for pure ethanol. DTI bottom shape and local pattern collapse of the trenches can explain these incomplete wetting phenomena. This high-frequency acoustic method sensitivity coupled with a FDTD propagative model thus enables the local determination of the wetting state of a liquid on real structures. Partial wetting states for non-hydrophobic surfaces or low surface tension liquids are then detectable with this method.
Abstract: This study examined the structural reliability of the Nigerian grown Opepe timber as bridge beam material. The strength of a particular specie of timber depends so much on some factors such as soil and environment in which it is grown. The steps involved are collection of the Opepe timber samples, seasoning/preparation of the test specimens, determination of the strength properties/statistical analysis, development of a computer programme in FORTRAN language and finally structural reliability analysis using FORM 5 software. The result revealed that the Nigerian grown Opepe is a reliable and durable structural bridge beam material for span of 5000mm, depth of 400mm, breadth of 250mm and end bearing length of 150mm. The probabilities of failure in bending parallel to the grain, compression perpendicular to the grain, shear parallel to the grain and deflection are 1.61 x 10-7, 1.43 x 10-8, 1.93 x 10-4 and 1.51 x 10-15 respectively. The paper recommends establishment of Opepe plantation in various Local Government Areas in Nigeria for structural applications such as in bridges, railway sleepers, generation of income to the nation as well as creating employment for the numerous unemployed youths.

Abstract: This study was conducted for the investigation of
number of cellulolytic bacteria and their ability in decomposition.
Seven samples surface soil were collected on cellulose Zailiskii
Alatau slopes. Cellulolitic activity of new strains of Bacillus, isolated
from soil is determined. Isolated cellulose degrading bacteria were
screened for determination of the highest cellulose activity by
quantitative assay using Congo red, gravimetric assay and
colorimetric DNS method trough of the determination of the
parameters of sugar reduction. Strains are assigned to: B.subtilis,
B.licheniformis, B. cereus and, В. megaterium. Bacillus strains
consisting of several different types of cellulases have broad substrate
specificity of cellulase complexes formed by them. Cellulolitic
bacteria were recorded to have highest cellulase activity and selected
for optimization of cellulase enzyme production.
Abstract: The present study is based on the three-dimensional digital analysis by the finite elements method of the mechanical loading effect on the delamination of unidirectional and multidirectional stratified composites. The aim of this work is the determination of the release energy rate G in mode I and the Von Mises equivalent constraint distribution along the damaged area under the influence of several parameters such as the applied load and the delamination size. The results obtained in this study show that the unidirectional composite laminates have better mechanical resistance one the loading line than the multidirectional composite laminates.
Abstract: The material selection problem is concerned with the
determination of the right material for a certain product to optimize
certain performance indices in that product such as mass, energy
density, and power-to-weight ratio. This paper is concerned about
optimizing the selection of the manufacturing process along with the
material used in the product under performance indices and
availability constraints. In this paper, the material selection problem
is formulated using binary programming and solved by genetic
algorithm. The objective function of the model is to minimize the
total manufacturing cost under performance indices and material and
manufacturing process availability constraints.
Abstract: Hydrologic models are increasingly used as tools to
predict stormwater quantity and quality from urban catchments.
However, due to a range of practical issues, most models produce
gross errors in simulating complex hydraulic and hydrologic systems.
Difficulty in finding a robust approach for model calibration is one of
the main issues. Though automatic calibration techniques are
available, they are rarely used in common commercial hydraulic and
hydrologic modelling software e.g. MIKE URBAN. This is partly
due to the need for a large number of parameters and large datasets in
the calibration process. To overcome this practical issue, a
framework for automatic calibration of a hydrologic model was
developed in R platform and presented in this paper. The model was
developed based on the time-area conceptualization. Four calibration
parameters, including initial loss, reduction factor, time of
concentration and time-lag were considered as the primary set of
parameters. Using these parameters, automatic calibration was
performed using Approximate Bayesian Computation (ABC). ABC is
a simulation-based technique for performing Bayesian inference
when the likelihood is intractable or computationally expensive to
compute. To test the performance and usefulness, the technique was
used to simulate three small catchments in Gold Coast. For
comparison, simulation outcomes from the same three catchments
using commercial modelling software, MIKE URBAN were used.
The graphical comparison shows strong agreement of MIKE URBAN
result within the upper and lower 95% credible intervals of posterior
predictions as obtained via ABC. Statistical validation for posterior
predictions of runoff result using coefficient of determination (CD),
root mean square error (RMSE) and maximum error (ME) was found
reasonable for three study catchments. The main benefit of using
ABC over MIKE URBAN is that ABC provides a posterior
distribution for runoff flow prediction, and therefore associated
uncertainty in predictions can be obtained. In contrast, MIKE
URBAN just provides a point estimate. Based on the results of the
analysis, it appears as though ABC the developed framework
performs well for automatic calibration.
Abstract: Green chemistry for plant extraction of active principles is the main interest of many researchers concerned with climate change. While classical organic solvents are detrimental to our environment, greener alternatives to ionic liquids are very promising for sustainable organic chemistry. This study focused on the determination of functional groups observed in the main constituents from the ionic liquid extracts of Coleus aromaticus Benth leaves using FT-IR Spectroscopy. Moreover, this research aimed to determine the best ionic liquid that can separate functionalized plant constituents from the leaves Coleus aromaticus Benth using Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy. Coleus aromaticus Benth leaf extract in different ionic liquids, elucidated pharmacologically important functional groups present in major constituents of the plant, namely, rosmarinic acid, caffeic acid and chlorogenic acid. In connection to distinctive appearance of functional groups in the spectrum and highest % transmittance, potassium chloride-glycerol is the best ionic liquid for green extraction.
Abstract: The out-of-band impedance environment is considered
to be of paramount importance in engineering the in-band impedance
environment. Presenting the frequency independent and constant outof-
band impedances across the wide modulation bandwidth is
extremely important for reliable device characterization for future
wireless systems. This paper presents an out-of-band impedance
optimization scheme based on simultaneous engineering of
significant baseband components IF1 (twice the modulation
frequency) and IF2 (four times the modulation frequency) and higher
baseband components such as IF3 (six times the modulation
frequency) and IF4 (eight times the modulation frequency) to
engineer the in-band impedance environment. The investigations
were carried out on a 10W GaN HEMT device driven to deliver a
peak envelope power of approximately 40.5dBm under modulated
excitation. The presentation of frequency independent baseband
impedances to all the significant baseband components whilst
maintaining the optimum termination for fundamental tones as well
as reactive termination for 2nd harmonic under class-J mode of
operation has outlined separate optimum impedances for best
intermodulation (IM) linearity.
Abstract: Rapid developments in technology in the present age
have made it necessary for communities to follow technological
developments and adapt themselves to these developments. One of
the fields that are most rapidly affected by these developments is
undoubtedly education. Determination of the attitudes of preservice
teachers, who live in an age of technology and get ready to raise
future individuals, is of paramount importance both educationally and
professionally. The purpose of this study was to analyze attitudes of
preservice teachers towards technology and some variables that
predict these attitudes (gender, daily duration of internet use, and the
number of technical devices owned). 329 preservice teachers
attending the education faculty of a large university in central Turkey
participated, on a volunteer basis, in this study, where relational
survey model was used as the research method. Research findings
reveal that preservice teachers’ attitudes towards technology are
positive and at the same time, the attitudes of male preservice
teachers towards technology are more positive than their female
counterparts. As a result of the stepwise multiple regression analysis
where factors predicting preservice teachers’ attitudes towards
technology, it was found that duration of daily internet use was the
strongest predictor of attitudes towards technology.
Abstract: Zinc borates are used as a multi-functional flame
retardant additive for its high dehydration temperature. In this study,
the method of ultrasonic mixing was used in the synthesis of zinc
borates. The reactants of zinc oxide (ZnO) and boric acid (H3BO3)
were used at the constant reaction parameters of 90°C reaction
temperature and 55 min of reaction time. Several molar ratios of
ZnO:H3BO3 (1:1, 1:2, 1:3, 1:4 and 1:5) were conducted for the
determination of the optimum reaction ratio. Prior to synthesis the
characterization of the synthesized zinc borates were made by X-Ray
Diffraction (XRD) and Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy
(FT-IR). From the results Zinc Oxide Borate Hydrate
[Zn3B6O12.3.5H2O], were synthesized optimum at the molar ratio of
1:3, with a reaction efficiency of 95.2%.
Abstract: Online measurement of the product quality is a
challenging task in cement production, especially in the production of
Celitement, a novel environmentally friendly hydraulic binder. The
mineralogy and chemical composition of clinker in ordinary Portland
cement production is measured by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and
X-ray fluorescence (XRF), where only crystalline constituents can be
detected. But only a small part of the Celitement components can be
measured via XRD, because most constituents have an amorphous
structure. This paper describes the development of algorithms
suitable for an on-line monitoring of the final processing step of
Celitement based on NIR-data. For calibration intermediate products
were dried at different temperatures and ground for variable
durations. The products were analyzed using XRD and
thermogravimetric analyses together with NIR-spectroscopy to
investigate the dependency between the drying and the milling
processes on one and the NIR-signal on the other side. As a result,
different characteristic parameters have been defined. A short
overview of the Celitement process and the challenging tasks of the
online measurement and evaluation of the product quality will be
presented. Subsequently, methods for systematic development of
near-infrared calibration models and the determination of the final
calibration model will be introduced. The application of the model on
experimental data illustrates that NIR-spectroscopy allows for a quick
and sufficiently exact determination of crucial process parameters.
Abstract: Lead being a toxic heavy metal that mankind is
exposed to the highest levels of this metal. There are different sources
of environmental pollution with lead as lead alkyl additives in petrol
and manufacturing processes. The contaminated atmosphere in urban
and industrial areas by lead in Egypt may lead to the contamination
of foods beside the other different sources. The present investigation
studied the risk assessment of lead in some Egyptian edible
vegetables and fruits collected from different environments in Greater
Cairo Governorate, i.e. industrial, heavy traffic and rural areas. A
total of 325 leafy and fruity vegetables and fruits samples belonging
to 11, 6 and 4 different species, respectively were randomly collected
from markets of the three main models. Data indicated the variation
of lead levels in different three areas. The highest levels of lead were
detected in the samples collected from industrial and traffic areas.
However, the lowest levels were found in the rural areas. It could be
concluded that determination of lead levels in foods from different
localities and environments at regularly is very important.
Abstract: Mechanical behavior of 6082T6 aluminum is
investigated at different temperatures. The strain rate sensitivity is
investigated at different temperatures on the grain size variants. The
sensitivity of the measured grain size variants on 3-D grain is
discussed. It is shown that the strain rate sensitivities are negative for
the grain size variants during the deformation of nanostructured
materials. It is also observed that the strain rate sensitivities vary in
different ways with the equivalent radius, semi minor axis radius,
semi major axis radius and major axis radius. From the obtained
results, it is shown that the variation of strain rate sensitivity with
temperature suggests that the strain rate sensitivity at the low and the
high temperature ends of the 6082T6 aluminum range is different.
The obtained results revealed transition at different temperature from
negative strain rate sensitivity as temperature increased on the grain
size variants.
