Abstract: This paper presents an authoring tool which makes a
user easily and intuitively design vibrotactile sensation. A mobile
hardware platform powered by ANDROID, a multi-purpose haptic
driver and a linear resonance actuator are used to implement the
system of the presented authoring tool. The tool allows users to easily
and simply create a vibrotactile sensation by drawing vibrotactile
images and to feel the sensation by rubbing drawn images on the touch
screen of a mobile device. The tool supports a graphical interface for
designing, editing and playing vibrotactile images as well as a
pre-defined file format for save and open.
Abstract: In this paper, we propose a new method to distinguish
between arousal and relaxation states by using multiple features
acquired from a photoplethysmogram (PPG) and support vector
machine (SVM). To induce arousal and relaxation states in subjects, 2
kinds of sound stimuli are used, and their corresponding biosignals are
obtained using the PPG sensor. Two features–pulse to pulse interval
(PPI) and pulse amplitude (PA)–are extracted from acquired PPG
data, and a nonlinear classification between arousal and relaxation is
performed using SVM.
This methodology has several advantages when compared with
previous similar studies. Firstly, we extracted 2 separate features from
PPG, i.e., PPI and PA. Secondly, in order to improve the classification
accuracy, SVM-based nonlinear classification was performed.
Thirdly, to solve classification problems caused by generalized
features of whole subjects, we defined each threshold according to
individual features.
Experimental results showed that the average classification
accuracy was 74.67%. Also, the proposed method showed the better
identification performance than the single feature based methods.
From this result, we confirmed that arousal and relaxation can be
classified using SVM and PPG features.
Abstract: This paper presents a method of reducing the feedback
delay time of DWA(Data Weighted Averaging) used in sigma-delta
modulators. The delay time reduction results from the elimination of
the latch at the quantizer output and also from the falling edge
operation. The designed sigma-delta modulator improves the timing
margin about 16%. The sub-circuits of sigma-delta modulator such as
SC(Switched Capacitor) integrator, 9-level quantizer, comparator, and
DWA are designed with the non-ideal characteristics taken into
account. The sigma-delta modulator has a maximum SNR (Signal to
Noise Ratio) of 84 dB or 13 bit resolution.
Abstract: Gas turbine systems with wet compression have a
potential for future power generation, since they can offer a high
efficiency and a high specific power with a relatively low cost. In this
study influence of ambient condition on the performance of the wet
compression process is investigated with a non-equilibrium analytical
modeling based on droplet evaporation. Transient behaviors of droplet
diameter and temperature of mixed air are investigated for various
ambient temperatures. Special attention is paid for the effects of
ambient temperature, pressure ratio, and water injection ratios on the
important wet compression variables including compressor outlet
temperature and compression work. Parametric studies show that
downing of the ambient temperature leads to lower compressor outlet
temperature and consequently lower consumption of compression
work even in wet compression processes.
Abstract: The purpose of this paper is to analyze determinants of
information security affecting adoption of the Web-based integrated
information systems (IIS). We introduced Web-based information
systems which are designed to formulate strategic plans for Peruvian
government. Theoretical model is proposed to test impact of
organizational factors (deterrent efforts and severity; preventive
efforts) and individual factors (information security threat; security
awareness) on intentions to proactively use the Web-based IIS .Our
empirical study results highlight that deterrent efforts and deterrent
severity have no significant influence on the proactive use intentions
of IIS, whereas, preventive efforts play an important role in proactive
use intentions of IIS. Thus, we suggest that organizations need to do
preventive efforts by introducing various information security
solutions, and try to improve information security awareness while
reducing the perceived information security threats.
Abstract: As various mobile sensing technologies, remote
control and ubiquitous infrastructure are developing and expectations
on quality of life are increasing, a lot of researches and developments
on home network technologies and services are actively on going,
Until now, we have focused on how to provide users with high-level
home network services, while not many researches on home network
security for guaranteeing safety are progressing. So, in this paper, we
propose an access control model specific to home network that
provides various kinds of users with home network services up one-s
characteristics and features, and protects home network systems from
illegal/unnecessary accesses or intrusions.
Abstract: There are various kinds of medical equipment which
requires relatively accurate positional adjustments for successful
treatment. However, patients tend to move without notice during a
certain span of operations. Therefore, it is common practice that
accompanying operators adjust the focus of the equipment. In this
paper, tracking controllers for medical equipment are suggested to
replace the operators. The tracking controllers use AHRS sensor
information to recognize the movements of patients. Sensor fusion is
applied to reducing the error magnitudes through linear Kalman filters.
The image processing of optical markers is included to adjust the
accumulation errors of gyroscope sensor data especially for yaw
angles.
The tracking controller reduces the positional errors between the
current focus of a device and the target position on the body of a
patient. Since the sensing frequencies of AHRS sensors are very high
compared to the physical movements, the control performance is
satisfactory. The typical applications are, for example, ESWT or
rTMS, which have the error ranges of a few centimeters.
Abstract: We have fabricated a-IGZO TFT and investigated the
stability under positive DC and AC bias stress. The threshold voltage
of a-IGZO TFT shifts positively under those biases, and that reduces
on-current. For this reason, conventional shift-register circuit
employing TFTs which stressed by positive bias will be unstable, may
do not work properly. We have designed a new 6-transistor
shift-register, which has less transistors than prior circuits. The TFTs
of the proposed shift-register are not suffering from positive DC or AC
stress, mainly kept unbiased. Despite the compact design, the stable
output signal was verified through the SPICE simulation even under
RC delay of clock signal.
Abstract: KSLV-I(Korea Space Launch Vehicle-I) is designed as
a launch vehicle to enter a 100 kg-class satellite to the LEO(Low Earth
Orbit). Attitude angles of the upper-stage, including roll, pitch and
yaw are controlled by the cold gas thruster system using nitrogen gas.
The cold gas thruster is an actuator in the RCS(Reaction Control
System). To design an attitude controller for the upper-stage, thrust
measurement in vacuum condition is required. In this paper, the new
thrust measurement system and calibration mechanism are developed
and measurement errors and signal processing method are presented.
Abstract: In this paper, a novel deinterlacing algorithm is
proposed. The proposed algorithm approximates the distribution of the
luminance into a polynomial function. Instead of using one
polynomial function for all pixels, different polynomial functions are
used for the uniform, texture, and directional edge regions. The
function coefficients for each region are computed by matrix
multiplications. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed
method performs better than the conventional algorithms.
Abstract: The autonomic nervous system has a regulatory
structure that helps people adapt to changes in their environment by
adjusting or modifying some functions in response to stress, and regulating involuntary function of human organs. The purpose of this
study was to investigate the effect of combined stimulation, both
far-infrared heating and chiropractic, on the autonomic nervous system
activities using thermal image and heart rate variability. Six healthy subjects participated in this test. We compared the before and after
autonomic nervous system activities through obtaining thermal image
and photoplethysmogram signal. The thermal images showed that the
combined stimulation changed subject-s body temperature more
highly and widely than before. The result of heart rate variability
indicated that LF/HF ratio decreased. We concluded that combined
stimulation activates autonomic nervous system, and expected other
possibilities of this combined stimulation.
Abstract: Adolescents in Northern Uganda are at risk of teenage
pregnancies, unsafe abortions and sexually transmitted infections
(STIs). There is silence on sex both at home and school. This cross
sectional descriptive analytical study interviews a random sample of
827 students and 13 teachers on knowledge, perception and
acceptability to a comprehensive adolescent sexual and reproductive
health education in “O” and “A” level secondary schools in Gulu
District. Quantitative data was analyzed using SPSS 16.0. Directed
content analysis of themes of transcribed qualitative data was
conducted manually for common codes, sub-categories and
categories. Of the 827 students; 54.3% (449) reported being in a
sexual relationship especially those aged 15-17 years. Majority
96.1% (807) supported the teaching of a comprehensive ASRHE,
citing no negative impact 71.5% (601). Majority 81.6% (686) agreed
that such education could help prevention of STIs, abortions and
teenage pregnancies, and that it should be taught by health workers
69.0% (580). Majority 76.6% (203) reported that ASRHE was not
currently being taught in their schools. Students had low knowledge
levels and misconceptions about ASRHE. ASRHE was highly
acceptable though not being emphasized; its success in school
settings requires multidisciplinary culturally sensitive approaches
amongst which health workers should be frontiers.
Abstract: Skyline extraction in mountainous images can be used
for navigation of vehicles or UAV(unmanned air vehicles), but it is
very hard to extract skyline shape because of clutters like clouds, sea
lines and field borders in images. We developed the edge-based
skyline extraction algorithm using a proposed multistage edge filtering
(MEF) technique. In this method, characteristics of clutters in the
image are first defined and then the lines classified as clutters are
eliminated by stages using the proposed MEF technique. After this
processing, we select the last line using skyline measures among the
remained lines. This proposed algorithm is robust under severe
environments with clutters and has even good performance for
infrared sensor images with a low resolution. We tested this proposed
algorithm for images obtained in the field by an infrared camera and
confirmed that the proposed algorithm produced a better performance
and faster processing time than conventional algorithms.
Abstract: The brain MR imaging-based clinical research and analysis system were specifically built and the development for a large-scale data was targeted. We used the general clinical data available for building large-scale data. Registration period for the selection of the lesion ROI and the region growing algorithm was used and the Mesh-warp algorithm for matching was implemented. The accuracy of the matching errors was modified individually. Also, the large ROI research data can accumulate by our developed compression method. In this way, the correctly decision criteria to the research result was suggested. The experimental groups were age, sex, MR type, patient ID and smoking which can easily be queries. The result data was visualized of the overlapped images by a color table. Its data was calculated by the statistical package. The evaluation for the utilization of this system in the chronic ischemic damage in the area has done from patients with the acute cerebral infarction. This is the cause of neurologic disability index location in the center portion of the lateral ventricle facing. The corona radiate was found in the position. Finally, the system reliability was measured both inter-user and intra-user registering correlation.
Abstract: Despite of the preponderant role played by cement among the construction materials, it is today considered as a material destructing the environment due to the large quantities of carbon dioxide exhausted during its manufacture. Besides, global warming is now recognized worldwide as the new threat to the humankind against which advanced countries are investigating measures to reduce the current amount of exhausted gases to the half by 2050. Accordingly, efforts to reduce green gases are exerted in all industrial fields. Especially, the cement industry strives to reduce the consumption of cement through the development of alkali-activated geopolymer mortars using industrial byproducts like bottom ash. This study intends to gather basic data on the flowability and strength development characteristics of alkali-activated geopolymer mortar by examining its FT-IT features with respect to the effects and strength of the alkali-activator in order to develop bottom ash-based alkali-activated geopolymer mortar. The results show that the 35:65 mass ratio of sodium hydroxide to sodium silicate is appropriate and that a molarity of 9M for sodium hydroxide is advantageous. The ratio of the alkali-activators to bottom ash is seen to have poor effect on the strength. Moreover, the FT-IR analysis reveals that larger improvement of the strength shifts the peak from 1060 cm–1 (T-O, T=Si or Al) toward shorter wavenumber.
Abstract: As the latest advancement and trend in IT field, Green
& Smart IT has attracted more and more attentions from researchers.
This study focuses on the development of assessing tools which can be
used for evaluating Green & Smart IT level within an organization. In
order to achieve meaningful results, a comprehensive review of
relevant literature was performed in advance, then, Delphi survey and
other processes were also employed to develop the assessment tools
for Green & Smart IT level. Two rounds of Delphi questionnaire
survey were conducted with 20 IT experts in public sector. The results
reveal that the top five weighted KPIs to evaluate maturity of Green &
Smart IT were: (1) electronic execution of business process; (2)
shutdown of unused IT devices; (3) virtualization of severs; (4)
automation of constant temperature and humidity; and (5) introduction
of smart-work system. Finally, these tools were applied to case study
of a public research institute in Korea. The findings presented in this
study provide organizations with useful implications for the
introduction and promotion of Green & Smart IT in the future
Abstract: Flexible macroblock ordering (FMO), adopted in the
H.264 standard, allows to partition all macroblocks (MBs) in a frame
into separate groups of MBs called Slice Groups (SGs). FMO can not
only support error-resilience, but also control the size of video packets
for different network types. However, it is well-known that the number
of bits required for encoding the frame is increased by adopting FMO.
In this paper, we propose a novel algorithm that can reduce the bitrate
overhead caused by utilizing FMO. In the proposed algorithm, all MBs
are grouped in SGs based on the similarity of the transform
coefficients. Experimental results show that our algorithm can reduce
the bitrate as compared with conventional FMO.
Abstract: The purpose of present paper was to investigate
perceptions of Korean secondary school students about social issues
related to biological sciences. Twenty issues were selected based on
topics of articles in the newspaper from 2005 to 2010. The issues were
categorized into biotechnology, health-disease and environment
domains. Subjects were 541 high school students (male 253 and
female 288). On the survey, students were asked to answer on 5-point
Lickert scales how they thought of the effect of biological phenomena
or events related to biological issues on the individual life and the
society. They perceived that the biological issues would be more
effectible on the society than on the individual life. Female students
had a little more perceptions than males.
Abstract: Bioleaching of spent catalyst using moderate thermophilic chemolithotrophic acidophiles in growth medium without Fe source was investigated with two different pulp densities and three different size fractions. All the experiments were conducted on shake flasks at a temperature of 65 °C. The leaching yield of Ni and Al was found to be promising with very high leaching yield of 92-96% followed by Al as 41-76%, which means both Ni and Al leaching were favored by the moderate thermophilic bioleaching compared to the mesophilic bioleaching. The acid consumption was comparatively higher for the 10% pulp density experiments. Comparatively minimal difference in the leaching yield with different size fractions and different pulp densities show no requirement of grinding and using low pulp density less than 10%. This process would rather be economical as well as eco-friendly process for future optimization of the recovery of metal values from spent catalyst.
Abstract: In this paper, two centrifugal model tests (case 1: raft
foundation, case 2: 2x2 piled raft foundation) were conducted in
order to evaluate the effect of ground subsidence on load sharing
among piles and raft and settlement of raft and piled raft
foundations. For each case, two conditions consisting of undrained
(without groundwater pumping) and drained (with groundwater
pumping) conditions were considered. Vertical loads were applied
to the models after the foundations were completely consolidated by
selfweight at 50g. The results show that load sharing by the piles in
piled raft foundation (piled load share) for drained condition
decreases faster than that for undrained condition. Settlement of
both raft and piled raft foundations for drained condition increases
more quickly than that for undrained condition. In addition, the
settlement of raft foundation increases more largely than the
settlement of piled raft foundation for drained condition.
