Abstract: Variations in the growth rate constant of the Listeria
monocytogenes bacterial species were determined at 37°C in
irradiated environments and compared to the situation of a nonirradiated
environment. The bacteria cells, contained in a suspension
made of a nutrient solution of Brain Heart Infusion, were made to
grow at different frequency (2.30e2.60 GHz) and power (0e400
mW) values, in a plug flow reactor positioned in the irradiated
environment. Then the reacting suspension was made to pass into a
cylindrical cuvette where its optical density was read every 2.5
minutes at a wavelength of 600 nm. The obtained experimental data
of optical density vs. time allowed the bacterial growth rate constant
to be derived; this was found to be slightly influenced by microwave
power, but not by microwave frequency; in particular, a minimum
value was found for powers in the 50e150 mW field.
Abstract: Cyclic delay diversity (CDD) is a simple technique to
intentionally increase frequency selectivity of channels for orthogonal
frequency division multiplexing (OFDM).This paper proposes a residual
carrier frequency offset (RFO) estimation scheme for OFDMbased
broadcasting system using CDD. In order to improve the RFO
estimation, this paper addresses a decision scheme of the amount of
cyclic delay and pilot pattern used to estimate the RFO. By computer
simulation, the proposed estimator is shown to benefit form propoerly
chosen delay parameter and perform robustly.
Abstract: The huge development of new technologies and the
apparition of open communication system more and more
sophisticated create a new challenge to protect digital content from
piracy. Digital watermarking is a recent research axis and a new
technique suggested as a solution to these problems. This technique
consists in inserting identification information (watermark) into
digital data (audio, video, image, databases...) in an invisible and
indelible manner and in such a way not to degrade original medium-s
quality. Moreover, we must be able to correctly extract the
watermark despite the deterioration of the watermarked medium (i.e
attacks). In this paper we propose a system for watermarking satellite
images. We chose to embed the watermark into frequency domain,
precisely the discrete wavelet transform (DWT). We applied our
algorithm on satellite images of Tunisian center. The experiments
show satisfying results. In addition, our algorithm showed an
important resistance facing different attacks, notably the compression
(JEPG, JPEG2000), the filtering, the histogram-s manipulation and
geometric distortions such as rotation, cropping, scaling.
Abstract: Phase locked loops (PLL) and delay locked loops (DLL) play an important role in establishing coherent references (phase of carrier and symbol timing) in digital communication systems. Fully digital receiver including digital carrier synchronizer and symbol timing synchronizer fulfils the conditions for universal multi-mode communication receiver with option of symbol rate setting over several digit places and long-term stability of requirement parameters. Afterwards it is necessary to realize PLL and DLL in synchronizer in digital form and to approach to these subsystems as a discrete representation of analog template. Analysis of discrete phase locked loop (DPLL) or discrete delay locked loop (DDLL) and technique to determine their characteristics based on analog (continuous-time) template is performed in this posed paper. There are derived transmission response and error function for 1st order discrete locked loop and resulting equations and graphical representations for 2nd order one. It is shown that the spectrum translation due to sampling takes effect at frequency characteristics computing for specific values of loop parameters.
Abstract: In this paper a new method for increasing the speed of
SAGCM-APD is proposed. Utilizing carrier rate equations in
different regions of the structure, a circuit model for the structure is
obtained. In this research, in addition to frequency response, the
effect of added new charge layer on some transient parameters like
slew-rate, rising and falling times have been considered. Finally, by
trading-off among some physical parameters such as different layers
widths and droppings, a noticeable decrease in breakdown voltage
has been achieved. The results of simulation, illustrate some features
of proposed structure improvement in comparison with conventional
SAGCM-APD structures.
Abstract: The habitat where the present study has been carried
out is productive in relation to nutrient quality and they may perform
several useful functions, but are also threatened for their existence.
Hence, the proposed work, will add much new information about
biodiversity of macrophytes in drains and their embankment. All the
species were identified with their different stages of growth which
encountered on the three selected sites (I, II and III). The number of
species occurring at each site is grouped seasonally, i.e. summer,
rainy and winter season and the species were further recorded for the
study of phytosociology. Phytosociological characters such as
frequency, density and abundance were influenced by the climatic,
anthropogenic and biotic stresses prevailing at the three study sites.
All the species present at the study sites have shown maximum
values of frequency, density and abundance in rainy season in
comparison to that of summer and winter seasons.
Abstract: An electrocardiogram (ECG) feature extraction system
based on the calculation of the complex resonance frequency
employing Prony-s method is developed. Prony-s method is applied
on five different classes of ECG signals- arrhythmia as a finite sum
of exponentials depending on the signal-s poles and the resonant
complex frequencies. Those poles and resonance frequencies of the
ECG signals- arrhythmia are evaluated for a large number of each
arrhythmia. The ECG signals of lead II (ML II) were taken from
MIT-BIH database for five different types. These are the ventricular
couplet (VC), ventricular tachycardia (VT), ventricular bigeminy
(VB), and ventricular fibrillation (VF) and the normal (NR). This
novel method can be extended to any number of arrhythmias.
Different classification techniques were tried using neural networks
(NN), K nearest neighbor (KNN), linear discriminant analysis (LDA)
and multi-class support vector machine (MC-SVM).
Abstract: Radio-frequency identification has entered as a beneficial means with conforming GS1 standards to provide the best solutions in the manufacturing area. It competes with other automated identification technologies e.g. barcodes and smart cards with regard to high speed scanning, reliability and accuracy as well. The purpose of this study is to improve production line-s performance by implementing RFID system in the manufacturing area on the basis of radio-frequency identification (RFID) system by 3D modeling in the program Cinema 4D R13 which provides obvious graphical scenes for users to portray their applications. Finally, with regard to improving system performance, it shows how RFID appears as a well-suited technology in a comparison of the barcode scanner to handle different kinds of raw materials in the production line base on logical process.
Abstract: Utilities use operating reserve for frequency regulation. To ensure that the operating frequency and system security are well maintained, the operating grid codes always specify that the reserve quantity and response rate should meet some prescribed levels. This paper proposes a methodology to evaluate system's contingency reserve for an isolated power network. With the presented algorithm to estimate system's frequency response characteristic, an online allocation of contingency reserve would be feasible to meet the grid codes for contingency operation. Test results from the simulated conditions, and from the actual operating data verify the merits of the proposed methodology to system's frequency control, and security.
Abstract: The goal of this project is to design a system to
recognition voice commands. Most of voice recognition systems
contain two main modules as follow “feature extraction" and “feature
matching". In this project, MFCC algorithm is used to simulate
feature extraction module. Using this algorithm, the cepstral
coefficients are calculated on mel frequency scale. VQ (vector
quantization) method will be used for reduction of amount of data to
decrease computation time. In the feature matching stage Euclidean
distance is applied as similarity criterion. Because of high accuracy
of used algorithms, the accuracy of this voice command system is
high. Using these algorithms, by at least 5 times repetition for each
command, in a single training session, and then twice in each testing
session zero error rate in recognition of commands is achieved.
Abstract: Ren et al. presented an efficient carrier frequency offset
(CFO) estimation method for orthogonal frequency division multiplexing
(OFDM), which has an estimation range as large as the
bandwidth of the OFDM signal and achieves high accuracy without
any constraint on the structure of the training sequence. However,
its detection probability of the integer frequency offset (IFO) rapidly
varies according to the fractional frequency offset (FFO) change. In
this paper, we first analyze the Ren-s method and define two criteria
suitable for detection of IFO. Then, we propose a novel method for
the IFO estimation based on the maximum-likelihood (ML) principle
and the detection criteria defined in this paper. The simulation results
demonstrate that the proposed method outperforms the Ren-s method
in terms of the IFO detection probability irrespective of a value of
the FFO.
Abstract: Numerical simulations are performed for laminar
continuous and pulsed jets impinging on a surface in order to
investigate the effects of pulsing frequency on the heat transfer
characteristics. The time-averaged Nusselt number of pulsed jets is
larger in the impinging jet region as compared to the continuous jet,
while it is smaller in the outer wall jet region. At the stagnation point,
the mean and RMS Nusselt numbers become larger and smaller,
respectively, as the pulsing frequency increases. Unsteady behaviors
of vortical fluid motions and temperature field are also investigated to
understand the underlying mechanisms of heat transfer enhancement.
Abstract: Seismic qualification testing for equipments to be
mounted on upper storeys of buildings is very demanding in terms of
floor spectra. The latter is characterized by high accelerations
amplitudes within a narrow frequency band. This article presents a
method which permits to cover specified required response spectra
beyond the shaking table capability by amplifying the acceleration
amplitudes at an appropriate frequency range using a physical
intermediate mounted on the platform of the shaker.
Abstract: This paper describes a CMOS four-quadrant
multiplier intended for use in the front-end receiver by utilizing the
square-law characteristic of the MOS transistor in the saturation
region. The circuit is based on 0.35 um CMOS technology simulated
using HSPICE software. The mixer has a third-order inter the power
consumption is 271uW from a single 1.2V power supply. One of the
features of the proposed design is using two MOS transistors
limitation to reduce the supply voltage, which leads to reduce the
power consumption. This technique provides a GHz bandwidth
response and low power consumption.
Abstract: Finite impulse response (FIR) filters have the advantage of linear phase, guaranteed stability, fewer finite precision errors, and efficient implementation. In contrast, they have a major disadvantage of high order need (more coefficients) than IIR counterpart with comparable performance. The high order demand imposes more hardware requirements, arithmetic operations, area usage, and power consumption when designing and fabricating the filter. Therefore, minimizing or reducing these parameters, is a major goal or target in digital filter design task. This paper presents an algorithm proposed for modifying values and the number of non-zero coefficients used to represent the FIR digital pulse shaping filter response. With this algorithm, the FIR filter frequency and phase response can be represented with a minimum number of non-zero coefficients. Therefore, reducing the arithmetic complexity needed to get the filter output. Consequently, the system characteristic i.e. power consumption, area usage, and processing time are also reduced. The proposed algorithm is more powerful when integrated with multiplierless algorithms such as distributed arithmetic (DA) in designing high order digital FIR filters. Here the DA usage eliminates the need for multipliers when implementing the multiply and accumulate unit (MAC) and the proposed algorithm will reduce the number of adders and addition operations needed through the minimization of the non-zero values coefficients to get the filter output.
Abstract: The inphase/quadrature (I/Q) amplitude and phase
imbalance effects are studied in coherent optical orthogonal
frequency division multiplexing (CO-OFDM) systems. An analytical
model for the I/Q imbalance is developed and supported by
simulation results. The results indicate that the I/Q imbalance degrades the BER performance considerably.
Abstract: As days go by, we hear more and more about HIV,
Ebola, Bird Flu and other dreadful viruses which were unknown a
few decades ago. In both detecting and fighting viral diseases
ordinary methods have come across some basic and important
difficulties. Vaccination is by a sense introduction of the virus to the
immune system before the occurrence of the real case infection. It is
very successful against some viruses (e.g. Poliomyelitis), while
totally ineffective against some others (e.g. HIV or Hepatitis-C). On
the other hand, Anti-virus drugs are mostly some tools to control and
not to cure a viral disease. This could be a good motivation to try
alternative treatments. In this study, some key features of possible
physical-based alternative treatments for viral diseases are presented.
Electrification of body parts or fluids (especially blood) with micro
electric signals with adjusted current or frequency is also studied. The
main approach of this study is to find a suitable energy field, with
appropriate parameters that are able to kill or deactivate viruses. This
would be a lengthy, multi-disciplinary research which needs the
contribution of virology, physics, and signal processing experts. It
should be mentioned that all the claims made by alternative cures
researchers must be tested carefully and are not advisable at the time
being.

assuming Tbit = 1us. The system has been designed using 0.35-μm
fabricated CMOS technology. The mathematical model is given and
the design is simulated using OrCAD P Spice 16.2 software tool and
for real-time simulation, the electronic workbench MULISIM 11 has
been used.
Abstract: This paper presents the results of a comprehensive
investigation of five blackouts that occurred on 28 August to 8
September 2011 due to bushing failures of the 132/33 kV, 125 MVA
transformers at JBB Ali Grid station. The investigation aims to
explore the root causes of the bushing failures and come up with
recommendations that help in rectifying the problem and avoiding the
reoccurrence of similar type of incidents. The incident reports about
the failed bushings and the SCADA reports at this grid station were
examined and analyzed. Moreover, comprehensive power quality
field measurements at ten 33/11 kV substations (S/Ss) in JBB Ali
area were conducted, and frequency scans were performed to verify
any harmonic resonance frequencies due to power factor correction
capacitors. Furthermore, the daily operations of the on-load tap
changers (OLTCs) of both the 125 MVA and 20 MVA transformers
at JBB Ali Grid station have been analyzed. The investigation
showed that the five bushing failures were due to a local problem, i.e.
internal degradation of the bushing insulation. This has been
confirmed by analyzing the time interval between successive OLTC
operations of the faulty grid transformers. It was also found that
monitoring the number of OLTC operations can help in predicting
bushing failure.
Abstract: This research studied the appropriate factors and conditions for laminated bamboo bending by Design of Experiments (DOE). The interested factors affecting the spring back in laminates bamboo were (1) time, (2) thickness, and (3) frequency. This experiment tested the specimen by using high frequency machine and measured its spring back immediately and next 24 hours for comparing the spring back ratio. Results from the experiments showed that significant factors having major influence to bending of laminates bamboo were thickness and frequency. The appropriate conditions of thickness and frequency were 4 mm. and 1.5 respectively.
