Abstract: A human verification system is presented in this
paper. The system consists of several steps: background subtraction,
thresholding, line connection, region growing, morphlogy, star
skelatonization, feature extraction, feature matching, and decision
making. The proposed system combines an advantage of star
skeletonization and simple statistic features. A correlation matching
and probability voting have been used for verification, followed by a
logical operation in a decision making stage. The proposed system
uses small number of features and the system reliability is
convincing.
Abstract: This paper deals with the localization of the wideband sources. We develop a new approach for estimating the wide band sources parameters. This method is based on the high order statistics of the recorded data in order to eliminate the Gaussian components from the signals received on the various hydrophones. In fact the noise of sea bottom is regarded as being Gaussian. Thanks to the coherent signal subspace algorithm based on the cumulant matrix of the received data instead of the cross-spectral matrix the wideband correlated sources are perfectly located in the very noisy environment. We demonstrate the performance of the proposed algorithm on the real data recorded during an underwater acoustics experiments.
Abstract: In this paper the design of maximally flat linear phase
finite impulse response (FIR) filters is considered. The problem is
handled with totally two different approaches. The first one is
completely deterministic numerical approach where the problem is
formulated as a Linear Complementarity Problem (LCP). The other
one is based on a combination of Markov Random Fields (MRF's)
approach with messy genetic algorithm (MGA). Markov Random
Fields (MRFs) are a class of probabilistic models that have been
applied for many years to the analysis of visual patterns or textures.
Our objective is to establish MRFs as an interesting approach to
modeling messy genetic algorithms. We establish a theoretical result
that every genetic algorithm problem can be characterized in terms of
a MRF model. This allows us to construct an explicit probabilistic
model of the MGA fitness function and introduce the Ising MGA.
Experimentations done with Ising MGA are less costly than those
done with standard MGA since much less computations are involved.
The least computations of all is for the LCP. Results of the LCP,
random search, random seeded search, MGA, and Ising MGA are
discussed.
Abstract: A fully on-chip low drop-out (LDO) voltage regulator with 100pF output load capacitor is presented. A novel frequency compensation scheme using current buffer is adopted to realize single dominant pole within the unit gain frequency of the regulation loop, the phase margin (PM) is at least 50 degree under the full range of the load current, and the power supply rejection (PSR) character is improved compared with conventional Miller compensation. Besides, the differentiator provides a high speed path during the load current transient. Implemented in 0.18μm CMOS technology, the LDO voltage regulator provides 100mA load current with a stable 1.8V output voltage consuming 80μA quiescent current.
Abstract: Post growth annealing of solution grown ZnO
nanowire array is performed under controlled oxygen ambience. The
role of annealing over surface defects and their consequence on
dark/photo-conductivity and photosensitivity of nanowire array is
investigated. Surface defect properties are explored using various
measurement tools such as contact angle, photoluminescence, Raman
spectroscopy and XPS measurements. The contact angle of the NW
films reduces due to oxygen annealing and nanowire film surface
changes from hydrophobic (96°) to hydrophilic (16°). Raman and
XPS spectroscopy reveal that oxygen annealing improves the crystal
quality of the nanowire films. The defect band emission intensity
(relative to band edge emission, ID/IUV) reduces from 1.3 to 0.2 after
annealing at 600 °C at 10 SCCM flow of oxygen. An order
enhancement in dark conductivity is observed in O2 annealed
samples, while photoconductivity is found to be slightly reduced due
to lower concentration of surface related oxygen defects.
Abstract: Gas hydrates can agglomerate and block multiphase oil and gas pipelines when water is present at hydrate forming conditions. Using "Cold Flow Technology", the aim is to condition gas hydrates so that they can be transported as a slurry mixture without a risk of agglomeration. During the pipeline shut down however, hydrate particles may settle in bends and build hydrate plugs. An experimental setup has been designed and constructed to study the flow of such plugs at start up operations. Experiments have been performed using model fluid and model hydrate particles. The propagations of initial plugs in a bend were recorded with impedance probes along the pipe. The experimental results show a dispersion of the plug front. A peak in pressure drop was also recorded when the plugs were passing the bend. The evolutions of the plugs have been simulated by numerical integration of the incompressible mass balance equations, with an imposed mixture velocity. The slip between particles and carrier fluid has been calculated using a drag relation together with a particle-fluid force balance.
Abstract: Compacted clay liners (CCLs) are the main materials
used in waste disposal landfills due to their low permeability. In this
study, the effect on the shear resistant of clays with inorganic salt
solutions as permeate fluid was experimentally investigated. For this
purpose, NaCl inorganic salt solution at concentrations of 2, 5, 10%
and deionized water were used. Laboratory direct shear and Vane
shear tests were conducted on three compacted clays with low,
medium and high plasticity. Results indicated that the solutions type
and its concentration affect the shear properties of the mixture. In the
light of this study, the influence magnitude of these inorganic salts in
varies concentrations in different clays were determined and more
suitable compacted clay with the compare of plasticity were found.
Abstract: Lanthanum oxide is to be recovered from monazite,
which contains about 13.44% lanthanum oxide. The principal
objective of this study is to be able to extract lanthanum oxide from
monazite of Moemeik Myitsone Area. The treatment of monazite in
this study involves three main steps; extraction of lanthanum
hydroxide from monazite by using caustic soda, digestion with nitric
acid and precipitation with ammonium hydroxide and calcination of
lanthanum oxalate to lanthanum oxide.
Abstract: In this paper, the signal transmission analysis of the
semicircle-shaped via structure for the differential pairs is presented in
the frequency range up to 10 GHz. In order to improve the signal
transmission properties in the differential pairs, single via is separated
centrally into two semicircle-shaped sections, which are
interconnected with the traces of differential pairs respectively. This
via structure make possible to route differential pairs using only one
via. In addition, it can improve impedance discontinuity around its
region and then enhance the signal transmission properties in the
differential pairs. The electrical analysis such as S-parameter
calculation and eye diagram simulation has been performed to
investigate the improvement of the signal transmission property in the
differential pairs with new via structure.
Abstract: Validation of an automation system is an important issue. The goal is to check if the system under investigation, modeled by a Petri net, never enters the undesired states. Usually, tools dedicated to Petri nets such as DESIGN/CPN are used to make reachability analysis. The biggest problem with this approach is that it is impossible to generate the full occurence graph of the system because it is too large. In this paper, we show how computational methods such as temporal logic model checking and Groebner bases can be used to verify the correctness of the design of an automation system. We report our experimental results with two automation systems: the Automated Guided Vehicle (AGV) system and the traffic light system. Validation of these two systems ranged from 10 to 30 seconds on a PC depending on the optimizing parameters.
Abstract: For a given specific problem an efficient algorithm has
been the matter of study. However, an alternative approach orthogonal
to this approach comes out, which is called a reduction. In general
for a given specific problem this reduction approach studies how to
convert an original problem into subproblems. This paper proposes
a formal modeling language to support this reduction approach. We
show three examples from the wide area of learning problems. The
benefit is a fast prototyping of algorithms for a given new problem.
Abstract: In order to improve control performance and eliminate steady, a coupling compensation for 6-DOF parallel robot is presented. Taking dynamic load Tank Simulator as the research object, this paper analyzes the coupling of 6-DOC parallel robot considering the degree of freedom of the 6-DOF parallel manipulator. The coupling angle and coupling velocity are derived based on inverse kinematics model. It uses the mechanism-model combined method which takes practical moving track that considering the performance of motion controller and motor as its input to make the study. Experimental results show that the coupling compensation improves motion stability as well as accuracy. Besides, it decreases the dither amplitude of dynamic load Tank Simulator.
Abstract: In research on natural ventilation, and passive cooling
with forced convection, is essential to know how heat flows in a solid
object and the pattern of temperature distribution on their surfaces,
and eventually how air flows through and convects heat from the
surfaces of steel under roof. This paper presents some results from
running the computational fluid dynamic program (CFD) by
comparison between natural ventilation and forced convection within
roof attic that is received directly from solar radiation. The CFD
program for modeling air flow inside roof attic has been modified to
allow as two cases. First case, the analysis under natural ventilation,
is closed area in roof attic and second case, the analysis under forced
convection, is opened area in roof attic. These extend of all cases to
available predictions of variations such as temperature, pressure, and
mass flow rate distributions in each case within roof attic. The
comparison shows that this CFD program is an effective model for
predicting air flow of temperature and heat transfer coefficient
distribution within roof attic. The result shows that forced convection
can help to reduce heat transfer through roof attic and an around area
of steel core has temperature inner zone lower than natural
ventilation type. The different temperature on the steel core of roof
attic of two cases was 10-15 oK.

current broker technology and presents a research work in applying
goal-based request in cloud resource broker to optimize the use of
resources in cloud environment. The objective of proposing a new
kind of resource broker is to enhance the current resource
scheduling, discovery, and selection procedures. We believed that
it could help to maximize resources allocation in medical
informatics application.
Abstract: Rural tourism has many economical, environmental, and socio-cultural benefits. However, the development of rural tourism compared to urban tourism is also faced with several challenges added to the disadvantages of rural tourism. The aim of this study is to design a model of the factors affecting the motivations of rural tourists, in an attempt to improve the understanding of rural tourism motivation for the development of that form of tourism. The proposed model is based on a sound theoretical framework. It was designed following a literature review of tourism motivation theoretical frameworks and of rural tourism motivation factors. The tourism motivation theoretical framework that fitted to the best all rural tourism motivation factors was then chosen as the basis for the proposed model. This study hence found that the push and pull tourism motivation framework and the inner and outer directed values theory are the most adequate theoretical frameworks for the modeling of rural tourism motivation.
Abstract: Internet today has a huge impact on all aspects of life,
and also in the area of the broader context of democracy, politics and
politicians. If democracy is freedom of choice, there are a number of
conditions that can ensure in practice the freedom to be achieved and
realized. These preconditions must be achieved regardless of the
manner of voting. The key contribution of ICT to achieve freedom of
choice is that technology enables the correlation of the citizens and
elected representatives on the better way than it was possible without
the Internet. In this sense, we can say that the Internet and ICT are
changing significantly, and potentially improving the environment in
which democratic processes are taking place. This paper aims to
describe trends in use of ICT in democratic processes, and analyzes
the challenges for implementation of e-Democracy in Montenegro
Abstract: Natural resources management including water resources requires reliable estimations of time variant environmental parameters. Small improvements in the estimation of environmental parameters would result in grate effects on managing decisions. Noise reduction using wavelet techniques is an effective approach for preprocessing of practical data sets. Predictability enhancement of the river flow time series are assessed using fractal approaches before and after applying wavelet based preprocessing. Time series correlation and persistency, the minimum sufficient length for training the predicting model and the maximum valid length of predictions were also investigated through a fractal assessment.
Abstract: The paper focuses on the enhanced stiffness modeling
of robotic manipulators by taking into account influence of the external force/torque acting upon the end point. It implements the
virtual joint technique that describes the compliance of manipulator elements by a set of localized six-dimensional springs separated by
rigid links and perfect joints. In contrast to the conventional
formulation, which is valid for the unloaded mode and small
displacements, the proposed approach implicitly assumes that the loading leads to the non-negligible changes of the manipulator posture and corresponding amendment of the Jacobian. The
developed numerical technique allows computing the static
equilibrium and relevant force/torque reaction of the manipulator for
any given displacement of the end-effector. This enables designer
detecting essentially nonlinear effects in elastic behavior of
manipulator, similar to the buckling of beam elements. It is also proposed the linearization procedure that is based on the inversion of
the dedicated matrix composed of the stiffness parameters of the
virtual springs and the Jacobians/Hessians of the active and passive
joints. The developed technique is illustrated by an application example that deals with the stiffness analysis of a parallel
manipulator of the Orthoglide family
Abstract: Being creative in an educational environment, such as in the university, has many times been downplayed by bureaucracy, human inadequacy and physical hindrance. These factors control, stifle and subsequently condemn this natural phenomenon which is normally exuded by the tertiary community. If taken in a positive light, creativity has always led to many new discoveries and inventions. These creations are then gradually developed for the university reputation and achievements, in all fields of studies from the sciences to the humanities. This paper attempts to explore, through more than twenty years of observation, issues that stifle the university citizenry – academicians and students- – creativity. It also scrutinizes how enhancement of such creativity can be further supported by bureaucracy simplicity, encouraging and developing human potential and constructing uncompromising physical infrastructure and administrative support. These ideals – all of which can help to promote creativity, increases the productivity of the university community in aspects of teaching, research, publication, innovation and commercialization; be it at national as well as at international arena for the good of human and societal growth and development. This discursive presentation hopes to address another issue on promoting university community creativity through several deliverables which require cooperation from every quarter of the institution so that being creative continues to be promoted for sustainable human capital growth and development of the country, if not, the global community.
