Abstract: Wall-surface jet induced by the dielectric barrier
discharge (DBD) has been proposed as an actuator for active flow
control in aerodynamic applications. Discharge plasma evolution of
the DBD plasma actuator was simulated based on a simple fluid model,
in which the electron, one type of positive ion and negative ion were
taken into account. Two-dimensional simulation was conducted, and
the results are in agreement with the insights obtained from
experimental studies. The simulation results indicate that the discharge
mode changes depending on applied voltage slope; when the applied
voltage is positive-going with high applied voltage slope, the
corona-type discharge mode turns into the streamer-type discharge
mode and the threshold voltage slope is around 300 kV/ms in this
simulation. The characteristics of the electrohydrodynamic (EHD)
force, which is the source of the wall-surface jet, also change
depending on the discharge mode; the tentative peak value of the EHD
force during the positive-going voltage phase is saturated by the
periodical formation of the streamer-type discharge.
Abstract: Traditional parallel single string matching algorithms
are always based on PRAM computation model. Those algorithms
concentrate on the cost optimal design and the theoretical speed.
Based on the distributed string matching algorithm proposed by
CHEN, a practical distributed string matching algorithm architecture
is proposed in this paper. And also an improved single string matching
algorithm based on a variant Boyer-Moore algorithm is presented. We
implement our algorithm on the above architecture and the
experiments prove that it is really practical and efficient on distributed
memory machine. Its computation complexity is O(n/p + m), where n
is the length of the text, and m is the length of the pattern, and p is the
number of the processors.
Abstract: In this paper, the position control of an electronic
throttle actuator is outlined. The dynamic behavior of the actuator is
described with the help of an uncertain plant model. This motivates
the controller design based on the ideas of higher-order slidingmodes.
As a consequence anti-chattering techniques can be omitted.
It is shown that the same concept is applicable to estimate unmeasureable
signals. The control law and the observer are implemented on
an electronic control unit. Results achieved by numerical simulations
and real world experiments are presented and discussed.
Abstract: This paper proposes an improved approach based on
conventional particle swarm optimization (PSO) for solving an
economic dispatch(ED) problem with considering the generator
constraints. The mutation operators of the differential evolution (DE)
are used for improving diversity exploration of PSO, which called
particle swarm optimization with mutation operators (PSOM). The
mutation operators are activated if velocity values of PSO nearly to
zero or violated from the boundaries. Four scenarios of mutation
operators are implemented for PSOM. The simulation results of all
scenarios of the PSOM outperform over the PSO and other existing
approaches which appeared in literatures.
Abstract: The trend of growing density on chips has increases not
only the temperature in chips but also the gradient of the temperature
depending on locations. In this paper, we propose the balanced skew
tree generation technique for minimizing the clock skew that is
affected by the temperature gradients on chips. We calculate the
interconnect delay using Elmore delay equation, and find out the
optimal balanced clock tree by modifying the clock trees generated
through the Deferred Merge Embedding(DME) algorithm. The
experimental results show that the distance variance of clock insertion
points with and without considering the temperature gradient can be
lowered below 54% and we confirm that the skew is remarkably
decreased after applying the proposed technique.
Abstract: Frequent pattern discovery over data stream is a hard
problem because a continuously generated nature of stream does not
allow a revisit on each data element. Furthermore, pattern discovery
process must be fast to produce timely results. Based on these
requirements, we propose an approximate approach to tackle the
problem of discovering frequent patterns over continuous stream.
Our approximation algorithm is intended to be applied to process a
stream prior to the pattern discovery process. The results of
approximate frequent pattern discovery have been reported in the
paper.
Abstract: 'Secure routing in Mobile Ad hoc networks' and
'Internet connectivity to Mobile Ad hoc networks' have been dealt
separately in the past research. This paper proposes a light weight
solution for secure routing in integrated Mobile Ad hoc Network
(MANET)-Internet. The proposed framework ensures mutual
authentication of Mobile Node (MN), Foreign Agent (FA) and Home
Agent (HA) to avoid various attacks on global connectivity and
employs light weight hop-by-hop authentication and end-to-end
integrity to protect the network from most of the potential security
attacks. The framework also uses dynamic security monitoring
mechanism to monitor the misbehavior of internal nodes. Security
and performance analysis show that our proposed framework
achieves good security while keeping the overhead and latency
minimal.
Abstract: This study was carried out to investigate lamb mortalities relating to ewes' breed and some managemental factors on 250 pregnant ewes (190-Rahmani, 30-Ossimi and 30-Romanov) at Mehallet Mousa, Animal Production Research Station, Kafr El- Sheikh Province, Egypt. These animals divided into five groups according to the managemental factors used. The results revealed that the lamb mortality was higher in Ossimi breed and lower in Romanov one. In addition, the highest lamb mortality occurred among lambs for unsupplemented ewes, for those had body condition score two and for lambs which born outdoor. Moreover, the lamb survivability was increased by the parity of ewes. From this study it can be concluded that the lamb mortality depends on ewes' body condition score, parity, lambing system (indoor or outdoor), nutrition during pregnancy period and selected breed. In addition, the most important period for lamb survival is the first week of age.
Abstract: Evaporator is an important and widely used heat
exchanger in air conditioning and refrigeration industries. Different
methods have been used by investigators to increase the heat transfer
rates in evaporators. One of the passive techniques to enhance heat
transfer coefficient is the application of microfin tubes. The
mechanism of heat transfer augmentation in microfin tubes is
dependent on the flow regime of two-phase flow. Therefore many
investigations of the flow patterns for in-tube evaporation have been
reported in literatures. The gravitational force, surface tension and
the vapor-liquid interfacial shear stress are known as three dominant
factors controlling the vapor and liquid distribution inside the tube. A
review of the existing literature reveals that the previous
investigations were concerned with the two-phase flow pattern for
flow boiling in horizontal tubes [12], [9]. Therefore, the objective of
the present investigation is to obtain information about the two-phase
flow patterns for evaporation of R-134a inside horizontal smooth and
microfin tubes. Also Investigation of heat transfer during flow
boiling of R-134a inside horizontal microfin and smooth tube have
been carried out experimentally The heat transfer coefficients for
annular flow in the smooth tube is shown to agree well with Gungor
and Winterton-s correlation [4]. All the flow patterns occurred in the
test can be divided into three dominant regimes, i.e., stratified-wavy
flow, wavy-annular flow and annular flow. Experimental data are
plotted in two kinds of flow maps, i.e., Weber number for the vapor
versus weber number for the liquid flow map and mass flux versus
vapor quality flow map. The transition from wavy-annular flow to
annular or stratified-wavy flow is identified in the flow maps.

Abstract: Huge losses in apple production are caused by pathogens that cannot be seen shortly after harvest. After-harvest thermotherapy treatments can considerably improve control of storage diseases on apples and become an alternative to chemical pesticides. In the years 2010-2012 carried out research in this area. Apples of 'Topaz' cultivar were harvested at optimal maturity time for long storage and subject to water bath treatment at 45, 50, 52, 55°C for 60, 120, 180 and 240 seconds. The control was untreated fruits. After 12 and 24 weeks and during so called simulated trade turnover the fruits were checked for their condition and the originators of diseases were determined by using the standard phytopathological methods. The most common originator of 'Topaz' apple infection during storage were the fungi of genus Gloeosporium. In this paper it was proven that for effective protection of 'Topaz' apples against diseases, thermotherapy by using water treatments at temperature range of 50-52°C is quite sufficient.
Abstract: Preliminary results for a new flat plate test
facility are presented here in the form of Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), flow visualisation, pressure measurements and thermal anemometry. The results from the CFD and flow
visualisation show the effectiveness of the plate design, with the trailing edge flap anchoring the stagnation point on the working surface and reducing the extent of the leading edge separation. The flow visualization technique demonstrates the
two-dimensionality of the flow in the location where the
thermal anemometry measurements are obtained.
Measurements of the boundary layer mean velocity profiles compare favourably with the Blasius solution, thereby allowing for comparison of future measurements with the
wealth of data available on zero pressure gradient Blasius
flows. Results for the skin friction, boundary layer thickness,
frictional velocity and wall shear stress are shown to agree well with the Blasius theory, with a maximum experimental deviation from theory of 5%. Two turbulence generating grids
have been designed and characterized and it is shown that the turbulence decay downstream of both grids agrees with established correlations. It is also demonstrated that there is
little dependence of turbulence on the freestream velocity.

Abstract: In this paper, Novel method, Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) algorithm, based technique is proposed to estimate and analyze the steady state performance of self-excited induction generator (SEIG). In this novel method the tedious job of deriving the complex coefficients of a polynomial equation and solving it, as in previous methods, is not required. By comparing the simulation results obtained by the proposed method with those obtained by the well known mathematical methods, a good agreement between these results is obtained. The comparison validates the effectiveness of the proposed technique.

Abstract: Carrier mobility has become the most important
characteristic of high speed low dimensional devices. Due to
development of very fast switching semiconductor devices, speed of
computer and communication equipment has been increasing day by
day and will continue to do so in future. As the response of any
device depends on the carrier motion within the devices, extensive
studies of carrier mobility in the devices has been established
essential for the growth in the field of low dimensional devices.
Small-signal ac transport of degenerate two-dimensional hot
electrons in GaAs quantum wells is studied here incorporating
deformation potential acoustic, polar optic and ionized impurity
scattering in the framework of heated drifted Fermi-Dirac carrier
distribution. Delta doping is considered in the calculations to
investigate the effects of double delta doping on millimeter and submillimeter
wave response of two dimensional hot electrons in GaAs
nanostructures. The inclusion of delta doping is found to enhance
considerably the two dimensional electron density which in turn
improves the carrier mobility (both ac and dc) values in the GaAs
quantum wells thereby providing scope of getting higher speed
devices in future.

Abstract: Quality costs are the costs associated with preventing,
finding, and correcting defective work. Since the main language of
corporate management is money, quality-related costs act as means of
communication between the staff of quality engineering departments
and the company managers. The objective of quality engineering is to
minimize the total quality cost across the life of product. Quality
costs provide a benchmark against which improvement can be
measured over time. It provides a rupee-based report on quality
improvement efforts. It is an effective tool to identify, prioritize and
select quality improvement projects. After reviewing through the
literature it was noticed that a simplified methodology for data
collection of quality cost in a manufacturing industry was required.
The quantified standard methodology is proposed for collecting data
of various elements of quality cost categories for manufacturing
industry. Also in the light of research carried out so far, it is felt
necessary to standardise cost elements in each of the prevention,
appraisal, internal failure and external failure costs. . Here an attempt
is made to standardise the various cost elements applicable to
manufacturing industry and data is collected by using the proposed
quantified methodology. This paper discusses the case study carried
in luggage manufacturing industry.
