Abstract: A two-dimensional thin-walled capsule of a flexible
semi-permeable membrane is adhered onto a rigid planar substrate
under adhesive forces (derived from a potential function) in the
presence of osmosis across the membrane. The capsule is immersed
in a hypotonic and diluted binary solution of a non-electrolyte
solute. The Stokes flow problem is solved by the immersed interface
method (IIM) with equal viscosities for the enclosed and
surrounding fluid of the capsule. The numerical results obtained are
verified against two simplified theoretical solutions and the
agreements are good. The osmotic inflation of the adhered capsule is
studied as a function of the solute concentration field, hydraulic
conductivity, and the initial capsule shape. Our findings indicate that
the contact length shrinks in dimension as capsule inflates in the
hypotonic medium, and the equilibrium contact length does not
depend on the hydraulic conductivity of the membrane and the
initial shape of the capsule.
Abstract: One of the efficient factors in comprehensive
development of an area is to provide water sources and on the other
hand the appropriate management of them. Population growth and
nourishment security for such a population necessitate the
achievement of constant development besides the reforming of
traditional management in order to increase the profit of sources; In
this case, the constant exploitation of sources for the next generations
will be considered in this program. The achievement of this
development without the consideration and possibility of water
development will be too difficult. Zayanderood basin with 41500
areas in square kilometers contains 7 sub-basins and 20 units of
hydrologic. In this basin area, from the entire environment
descending, just a small part will enter into the river currents and the
rest will be out of efficient usage by various ways. The most
important surface current of this basin is Zayanderood River with
403 kilometers length which is originated from east slopes of Zagros
mount and after draining of this basin area it will enter into
Gaavkhooni pond. The existence of various sources and
consumptions of water in Zayanderood basin, water transfer of the
other basin areas into this basin, of course the contradiction between
the upper and lower beneficiaries, the existence of worthwhile
natural ecosystems such as Gaavkhooni swamp in this basin area and
finally, the drought condition and lack of water in this area all
necessitate the existence of comprehensive management of water
sources in this central basin area of Iran as this method is a kind of
management which considers the development and the management
of water sources as an equilibrant way to increase the economical
and social benefits. In this study, it is tried to survey the network of
surface water sources of basin in upper and lower sections; at the
most, according to the difficulties and deficiencies of an efficient
management of water sources in this basin area, besides the
difficulties of water draining and the destructive phenomenon of
flood-water, the appropriate guidelines according to the region
conditions are presented in order to prevent the deviation of water in
upper sections and development of regions in lower sections of
Zayanderood dam.
Abstract: Computational simulation of steam flow and heat transfer in power plant condensers on the basis of the threedimensional mathematical model for the flow through porous media is presented. In order to solve the mathematical model of steam flow and heat transfer in power plant condensers, the Streamline Upwind Petrov-Galerkin finite element method is applied. By comparison of the results of simulation with experimental results about an experimental condenser, it is confirmed that SUPG finite element method can be successfully applied for solving the three-dimensional mathematical model of steam flow and heat transfer in power plant condensers.
Abstract: Extraction of Fe(III) from aqueous solution using Trin-
butyl Phosphate (TBP) as carrier needs a highly acidic medium
(>6N) as it favours formation of chelating complex FeCl3.TBP.
Similarly, stripping of Iron(III) from loaded organic solvents requires
neutral pH or alkaline medium to dissociate the same complex. It is
observed that TBP co-extracts acids along with metal, which causes
reversal of driving force of extraction and iron(III) is re-extracted
back from the strip phase into the feed phase during Liquid Emulsion
Membrane (LEM) pertraction. Therefore, rate of extraction of
different mineral acids (HCl, HNO3, H2SO4) using TBP with and
without presence of metal Fe(III) was examined. It is revealed that in
presence of metal acid extraction is enhanced. Determination of mass
transfer coefficient of both acid and metal extraction was performed
by using Bulk Liquid Membrane (BLM). The average mass transfer
coefficient was obtained by fitting the derived model equation with
experimentally obtained data. The mass transfer coefficient of the
mineral acid extraction is in the order of kHNO3 = 3.3x10-6m/s > kHCl =
6.05x10-7m/s > kH2SO4 = 1.85x10-7m/s. The distribution equilibria of
the above mentioned acids between aqueous feed solution and a
solution of tri-n-butyl-phosphate (TBP) in organic solvents have been
investigated. The stoichiometry of acid extraction reveals the
formation of TBP.2HCl, HNO3.2TBP, and TBP.H2SO4 complexes.
Moreover, extraction of Iron(III) by TBP in HCl aqueous solution
forms complex FeCl3.TBP.2HCl while in HNO3 medium forms
complex 3FeCl3.TBP.2HNO3
Abstract: This paper presents a narrative management system
for organizations to capture organization's tacit knowledge
through stories. The intention of capturing tacit knowledge is to
address the problem that comes with the mobility of workforce in
organisation. Storytelling in knowledge management context is
seen as a powerful management tool to communicate tacit
knowledge in organization. This narrative management system is
developed firstly to enable uploading of many types of knowledge
sharing stories, from general to work related-specific stories and
secondly, each video has comment functionality where knowledge
users can post comments to other knowledge users. The narrative
management system allows the stories to browse, search and view
by the users. In the system, stories are stored in a video repository.
Stories that were produced from this framework will improve
learning, knowledge transfer facilitation and tacit knowledge
quality in an organization.
Abstract: Laminar natural-convective heat transfer from a
horizontal cylinder is studied by solving the Navier-Stokes and
energy equations using higher order compact scheme in cylindrical
polar coordinates. Results are obtained for Rayleigh numbers of 1,
10, 100 and 1000 for a Prandtl number of 0.7. The local Nusselt
number and mean Nusselt number are calculated and compared with
available experimental and theoretical results. Streamlines, vorticity -
lines and isotherms are plotted.
Abstract: Pressure waves and Water Hammer occur in a
pumping system when valves are closed or opened suddenly or in
the case of sudden failure of pumps. Determination of maximum
water hammer is considered one of the most important technical
and economical items of which engineers and designers of
pumping stations and conveyance pipelines should take care.
Hammer Software is a recent application used to simulate water
hammer. The present study focuses on determining significance of
each input parameter of the application relative to the maximum
amount of water hammer estimated by the software. The study
determines estimated maximum water hammer variations due to
variations of input parameters including water temperature, pipe
type, thickness and diameter, electromotor rpm and power, and
moment of inertia of electromotor and pump. In our study,
Kuhrang Pumping Station was modeled using WaterGEMS
Software. The pumping station is characterized by total discharge
of 200 liters per second, dynamic height of 194 meters and 1.5
kilometers of steel conveyance pipeline and transports water to
Cheshme Morvarid for farmland irrigation. The model was run in
steady hydraulic condition and transferred to Hammer Software.
Then, the model was run in several unsteady hydraulic conditions
and sensitivity of maximum water hammer to each input parameter
was calculated. It is shown that parameters to which maximum
water hammer is most sensitive are moment of inertia of pump and
electromotor, diameter, type and thickness of pipe and water
temperature, respectively.
Abstract: How to simulate experimentally the air flow and heat
transfer under microgravity on the ground is important, which has not
been completely solved so far. Influence of gravity on air natural
convection results in convection heat transfer on ground difference
from that on orbit. In order to obtain air temperature and velocity
deviations of manned spacecraft during terrestrial thermal test,
dimensionless number analysis and numerical simulation analysis are
performed. The calculated temperature distribution and velocity
distribution of the horizontal test cases are compared to the vertical
cases. The results show that the influence of gravity is neglected for
facility drawer racks and more obvious for vertical cabins.
Abstract: The significant effects of the interactions between the
system boundaries and the near wall molecules in miniaturized
gaseous devices lead to the formation of the Knudsen layer in which
the Navier-Stokes-Fourier (NSF) equations fail to predict the correct
associated phenomena. In this paper, the well-known lattice
Boltzmann method (LBM) is employed to simulate the fluid flow and
heat transfer processes in rarefied gaseous micro media. Persuaded
by the problematic deficiency of the LBM in capturing the Knudsen
layer phenomena, present study tends to concentrate on the effective
molecular mean free path concept the main essence of which is to
compensate the incapability of this mesoscopic method in dealing
with the momentum and energy transport within the above mentioned
kinetic boundary layer. The results show qualitative and quantitative
accuracy comparable to the solutions of the linearized Boltzmann
equation or the DSMC data for the Knudsen numbers of O (1) .
Abstract: Since its independence in 1962, Algeria has struggled
to establish an educational system tailored to the needs of the
population it may address. Considering the historical connection with
France, Algeria has always looked at the French language as a
cultural imperative until late in the seventies. After the Arabization
policy of 1971 and the socioeconomic changes taking place
worldwide, the use of English as a communicating vehicle started to
gain more space within globalized Algeria. Consequently, disparities
in the use of French started to fade away at the cross-roads leaving
more space to the teaching of English as a second foreign language.
Moreover, the introduction of the Bologna Process and the
European Credit Transfer System in Higher Education has
necessitated some innovations in the design and development of new
curricula adapted to the socioeconomic market. In this paper, I will
try to highlight the important historical dimensions Algeria has taken
towards the implementation of an English language methodology and
to the status it acquired from second foreign language, to first foreign
language to “the language of knowledge and sciences". I will also
propose new pedagogical perspectives for a better treatment of the
English language in order to encourage independent and autonomous
learning.
Abstract: Frequency domain independent component analysis has
a scaling indeterminacy and a permutation problem. The scaling
indeterminacy can be solved by use of a decomposed spectrum. For
the permutation problem, we have proposed the rules in terms of gain
ratio and phase difference derived from the decomposed spectra and
the source-s coarse directions.
The present paper experimentally clarifies that the gain ratio and
the phase difference work effectively in a real environment but their
performance depends on frequency bands, a microphone-space and
a source-microphone distance. From these facts it is seen that it is
difficult to attain a perfect solution for the permutation problem in a
real environment only by either the gain ratio or the phase difference.
For the perfect solution, this paper gives a solution to the problems
in a real environment. The proposed method is simple, the amount of
calculation is small. And the method has high correction performance
without depending on the frequency bands and distances from source
signals to microphones. Furthermore, it can be applied under the real
environment. From several experiments in a real room, it clarifies
that the proposed method has been verified.
Abstract: Two-dimensional heat conduction within a composed solid material with a constant internal heat generation has been investigated numerically in a sector of the rotor a generator. The heat transfer between two adjacent materials is assumed to be purely conduction. Boundary conditions are assumed to be forced convection on the fluid side and adiabatic on symmetry lines. The control volume method is applied for the diffusion energy equation. Physical coordinates are transformed to the general curvilinear coordinates. Then by using a line-by-line method, the temperature distribution in a sector of the rotor has been determined. Finally, the results are normalized and the effect of cooling fluid on the maximum temperature of insulation is investigated.
Abstract: Oxide scale thickness measurements are used in assessing the life of different components operating at high temperature environment. Such measurements provide an approximation for the temperature inside components such as reheater and superheater tubes. A number of failures were encountered in one of the boilers in one of Kuwaiti power plants. These failure were mainly in the first row of the primary super heater tubes, therefore, the specialized engineer decide to replace them during the annual shutdown. As a tool for failure analysis, oxide scale thickness measurement were used to investigate the temperature distribution in these tubes. In this paper, the oxide scale thickness of these tubes were measured and used for analysis. The measurements provide an illustration of the distribution of heat transfer of the primary superheater tubes in the boiler system. Remarks and analysis about the design of the boiler are also provided.
Abstract: The aim of this paper is to investigate twodimensional unsteady flow of a viscous incompressible fluid about stagnation point on permeable stretching sheet in presence of time dependent free stream velocity. Fluid is considered in the influence of transverse magnetic field in the presence of radiation effect. Rosseland approximation is use to model the radiative heat transfer. Using time-dependent stream function, partial differential equations corresponding to the momentum and energy equations are converted into non-linear ordinary differential equations. Numerical solutions of these equations are obtained by using Runge-Kutta Fehlberg method with the help of Newton-Raphson shooting technique. In the present work the effect of unsteadiness parameter, magnetic field parameter, radiation parameter, stretching parameter and the Prandtl number on flow and heat transfer characteristics have been discussed. Skin-friction coefficient and Nusselt number at the sheet are computed and discussed. The results reported in the paper are in good agreement with published work in literature by other researchers.
Abstract: Transnational corporations (TNCs) are playing a major role in global R&D, not only through activities in their home countries but also increasingly abroad. However, the process of R&D offshoring is not yet discussed thoroughly. Based on in-depth case study on Agilent China Communications Operation, this paper presents a stage model for theorizing the R&D offshoring process. This stage model outlines 5 maturity levels of organization and the offshoring process: Subsidiary team, Mirror team, Independent team, Mirror sector and the Independent sector (from software engineering point of view, it is similar to the local team's capability level of maturity model). Moreover, the paper gives a detailed discussion on the relevant characteristics, as well as the ability/responsibility of transfer, priorities and the corresponding organization structure. It also gives the characteristics and key points of different level-s R&D offshoring implementation using actual team practice.

The Brinkman Darcy momentum model and two energy equations for both solid and fluid phases in porous media are employed .The study shows that using metal-foams can significantly improve the heat transfer in heat exchangers.
Abstract: As there are also graph methods of circuit analysis in
addition to algebraic methods, it is, in theory, clearly possible to
carry out an analysis of a whole switched circuit in two-phase
switching exclusively by the graph method as well. This article deals
with two methods of full-graph solving of switched circuits: by
transformation graphs and by two-graphs. It deals with the circuit
switched capacitors and the switched current, too. All methods are
presented in an equally detailed steps to be able to compare.
Abstract: The effect of chemical treatment in CdCl2 on the
compositional changes and defect structures of potentially useful ZnS
solar cell thin films prepared by vacuum deposition method was
studied using the complementary Rutherford backscattering (RBS)
and Thermoluminesence (TL) techniques. A series of electron and
hole traps are found in the various as deposited samples studied.
After treatment, perturbation on the intensity is noted; mobile defect
states and charge conversion and/or transfer between defect states are
found.
Abstract: The present study is concerned with the free
convective two dimensional flow and heat transfer, within the
framework of Boussinesq approximation, in anisotropic fluid filled
porous rectangular enclosure subjected to end-to-end temperature
difference have been investigated using Lattice Boltzmann method
fornon-Darcy flow model. Effects of the moving lid direction (top,
bottom, left, and right wall moving in the negative and positive x&ydirections),
number of moving walls (one or two opposite walls), the
sliding wall velocity, and four different constant temperatures
opposite walls cases (two surfaces are being insulated and the
twoother surfaces areimposed to be at constant hot and cold
temperature)have been conducted. The results obtained are discussed
in terms of the Nusselt number, vectors, contours, and isotherms.
Abstract: In this research, a 2-D computational analysis of
steady state free convection in a rectangular enclosure filled with an
electrically conducting fluid under Effect of Magnetic Field has been
performed. The governing equations (mass, momentum, and energy)
are formulated and solved by a finite volume method (FVM)
subjected to different boundary conditions. A parametric study has
been conducted to consider the influence of Grashof number (Gr),
Prantdl number (Pr) and the orientation of magnetic field on the flow
and heat transfer characteristics. It is observed that Nusselt number
(Nu) and heat flux will increase with increasing Grashof and Prandtl
numbers and decreasing the slope of the orientation of magnetic field.
