Abstract: The aerodynamics characteristics of a blended-wing body (BWB) aircraft were obtained in Universiti Teknologi MARA low speed wind tunnel. The scaled-down of BWB model consisted of a canard as its horizontal stabilizer. There were four canards with different aspect ratio used in the experiments. Canard setting angles were varied from -20q to 20q. All tests were conducted at velocity of 35 m/s, with Mach number 0.1. At low angles of attacks, the increment of lift slope for various canards aspect ratio is small and almost constant. Higher canard aspect ratio will cause higher drag. However, canard has a high effect to the moment at zero lift, CM,0.The visualization using mini tuff was performed to observe the airflow at the upper surface of canard. Abstract: Carbon nanotubes (CNTs) possess unique structural,
mechanical, thermal and electronic properties, and have been
proposed to be used for applications in many fields. However, to
reach the full potential of the CNTs, many problems still need to be
solved, including the development of an easy and effective
purification procedure, since synthesized CNTs contain impurities,
such as amorphous carbon, carbon nanoparticles and metal particles.
Different purification methods yield different CNT characteristics
and may be suitable for the production of different types of CNTs. In
this study, the effect of different purification chemicals on carbon
nanotube quality was investigated. CNTs were firstly synthesized by
chemical vapor deposition (CVD) of acetylene (C2H2) on a
magnesium oxide (MgO) powder impregnated with an iron nitrate
(Fe(NO3)3·9H2O) solution. The synthesis parameters were selected
as: the synthesis temperature of 800°C, the iron content in the
precursor of 5% and the synthesis time of 30 min. The liquid phase
oxidation method was applied for the purification of the synthesized
CNT materials. Three different acid chemicals (HNO3, H2SO4, and
HCl) were used in the removal of the metal catalysts from the
synthesized CNT material to investigate the possible effects of each
acid solution to the purification step. Purification experiments were
carried out at two different temperatures (75 and 120 °C), two
different acid concentrations (3 and 6 M) and for three different time
intervals (6, 8 and 15 h). A 30% H2O2 : 3M HCl (1:1 v%) solution
was also used in the purification step to remove both the metal
catalysts and the amorphous carbon. The purifications using this
solution were performed at the temperature of 75°C for 8 hours.
Purification efficiencies at different conditions were evaluated by
thermogravimetric analysis. Thermal and electrical properties of
CNTs were also determined. It was found that the obtained electrical
conductivity values for the carbon nanotubes were typical for organic
semiconductor materials and thermal stabilities were changed
depending on the purification chemicals.
Abstract: The effects of ethylene (C2H4) feed position and
O2/C2H4 feed molar ratio on ethylene epoxidation in a parallel
dielectric barrier discharge (DBD) were studied. The results showed
that the ethylene feed position fraction of 0.5 and the feed molar
ratio of O2/C2H4 of 0.2:1 gave the highest EO selectivity of 34.3%
and the highest EO yield of 5.28% with low power consumptions of
2.11×10-16 Ws/molecule of ethylene converted and 6.34×10-16
Ws/molecule of EO produced when the DBD system was operated
under the best conditions: an applied voltage of 19 kV, an input
frequency of 500 Hz and a total feed flow rate of 50 cm3/min. The
separate ethylene feed system provided much higher epoxidation
activity as compared to the mixed feed system which gave EO
selectivity of 15.5%, EO yield of 2.1% and the power consumption of
EO produced of 7.7×10-16 Ws/molecule.
Abstract: Understanding of how and where NOx formation
occurs in industrial burner is very important for efficient and clean
operation of utility burners. Also the importance of this problem is
mainly due to its relation to the pollutants produced by more burners
used widely of gas turbine in thermal power plants and glass and steel
industry.
In this article, a numerical model of an industrial burner operating
in MILD combustion is validated with experimental data.. Then
influence of air flow rate and air temperature on combustor
temperature profiles and NOX product are investigated. In order to
modification this study reports on the effects of fuel and air dilution
(with inert gases H2O, CO2, N2), and also influence of lean-premixed
of fuel, on the temperature profiles and NOX emission.
Conservation equations of mass, momentum and energy, and
transport equations of species concentrations, turbulence, combustion
and radiation modeling in addition to NO modeling equations were
solved together to present temperature and NO distribution inside the
burner.
The results shows that dilution, cause to a reduction in value of
temperature and NOX emission, and suppresses any flame
propagation inside the furnace and made the flame inside the furnace
invisible. Dilution with H2O rather than N2 and CO2 decreases further
the value of the NOX. Also with raise of lean-premix level, local
temperature of burner and the value of NOX product are decreases
because of premixing prevents local “hot spots" within the combustor
volume that can lead to significant NOx formation. Also leanpremixing
of fuel with air cause to amount of air in reaction zone is
reach more than amount that supplied as is actually needed to burn
the fuel and this act lead to limiting NOx formation
Abstract: The problem discussed in this paper involves packing fresh fish fileet of the northern Cod into a standard square container. The fish is first cleaned and split and then collected on a belt ready to be stacked in a container. The aim of our work is to pack the fish into the container with constraints on the amount of overlap allowed for the fileets. The current focus is to design a packing cell that can be real-time and of practical use, while finding the optimal solution to the degree of overlap and minimise the unused space of the container.
Abstract: Walking and sit to stand are activities carried out by
all the people many times during the day, but physical disabilities due
to age and diseases create needs of assistive devices to help elderly
people during their daily life. This study aims to study the different
types and mechanisms of the assistive devices. We will analyze the
limitations and the challenges faced by the researchers in this field.
We will introduce the Assistive Device developed at the Egypt-Japan
University of Science and Technology, named E-JUST Assistive
Device (EJAD). EJAD will be a low cost intelligent assistive device
to help elders in walking and sit-to-stand activities.
Abstract: This paper proposes a new decision making structure
to determine the appropriate product delivery strategy for different products in a manufacturing system among make-to-stock, make-toorder,
and hybrid strategy. Given product delivery strategies for all products in the manufacturing system, the position of the Order
Penetrating Point (OPP) can be located regarding the delivery strategies among which location of OPP in hybrid strategy is a
cumbersome task. In this regard, we employ analytic network process, because there are varieties of interrelated driving factors
involved in choosing the right location. Moreover, the proposed structure is augmented with fuzzy sets theory in order to cope with
the uncertainty of judgments. Finally, applicability of the proposed structure is proven in practice through a real industrial case company.
The numerical results demonstrate the efficiency of the proposed decision making structure in order partitioning and OPP location.
Abstract: In recent five decades, textured yarns of polyester fiber produced by false twist method are the most
important and mass-produced manmade fibers. There are
many parameters of cross section which affect the physical and mechanical properties of textured yarns. These parameters
are surface area, perimeter, equivalent diameter, large
diameter, small diameter, convexity, stiffness, eccentricity, and hydraulic diameter. These parameters were evaluated by
digital image processing techniques. To find trends between production criteria and evaluated parameters of cross section, three criteria of production line have been adjusted and different types of yarns were produced. These criteria are
temperature, drafting ratio, and D/Y ratio. Finally the relations between production criteria and cross section parameters were
considered. The results showed that the presented technique can recognize and measure the parameters of fiber cross section in acceptable accuracy. Also, the optimum condition
of adjustments has been estimated from results of image analysis evaluation.
Abstract: Automatic keyphrase extraction is useful in efficiently
locating specific documents in online databases. While several
techniques have been introduced over the years, improvement on
accuracy rate is minimal. This research examines attribute scores for
author-supplied keyphrases to better understand how the scores affect
the accuracy rate of automatic keyphrase extraction. Five attributes
are chosen for examination: Term Frequency, First Occurrence, Last
Occurrence, Phrase Position in Sentences, and Term Cohesion
Degree. The results show that First Occurrence is the most reliable
attribute. Term Frequency, Last Occurrence and Term Cohesion
Degree display a wide range of variation but are still usable with
suggested tweaks. Only Phrase Position in Sentences shows a totally
unpredictable pattern. The results imply that the commonly used
ranking approach which directly extracts top ranked potential phrases
from candidate keyphrase list as the keyphrases may not be reliable.
Abstract: This research aimed to study the market feasibility for
new brand coffee house, the case study of Thailand.. This study is a
mixed methods research combining quantitative research and the
qualitative research. Primary data 350 sets of questionnaires were
distributed, and the high quality completed questionnaires of 320 sets
returned. Research samples are identified as customers’ of Hi-end
department stores in Thailand. The sources of secondary data were
critical selected from highly reliable sources, both from public and
private sectors. The results were used to classify the customer group
into two main groups, the younger than 25 and the older than 25years
old. Results of the younger group, are give priority to the dimension
of coffee house and its services dimension more than others, then
branding dimension and the product dimension respectively. On the
other hand, the older group give the difference result as they rate the
important of the branding, coffee house and its services, then the
product respectively. Coffee consuming is not just the trend but it
has become part of people lifestyle. And the new cultures also created
by the wise businessman. Coffee was long produced and consumed in
Thailand. But it is surprisingly the hi-end brand coffee houses in Thai
market are mostly imported brands. The café business possibility for
Thai brand coffee house in Thai market were discussed in the paper.
Abstract: In the last decades, the problem of perforation
damage has been considered as the major factor for the
reduction of oil productivity. Underbalance perforation is
considered as one of the best means to minimize or overcome
this problem. By maintaining wellbore pressure lower than
formation pressure, perforation damage could be minimize or
eliminated. This can be achieved by the use of nontraditional
lightweight completion fluid. This paper presents the effect of
natural clay in formulating nontraditional completion fluid to
ensure successful perforation job and increase of production
rate. Natural clay is used as homogenizing agent to create a
stable and non-damaging low-density completion fluid.
Results indicate that the addition of natural clay dramatically
increase the stability of the final fluids. In addition, field test
has shown that the application of nontraditional completion
fluid increases oil production by three folds.
Abstract: This study was designed to determine effect of
supplemented tomato pomace and fobrolytic enzyme on egg
production and egg quality. A total of 40 CP brown laying hens (95
week old) were used in completely randomized design in 2x2
factorial arrangement with or without enzyme supplementation. Four
dietary treatments included: Control (C), Fibrolytic enzyme (FE),
10% Tomato pomace (TP), and Fibrolytic enzyme + 10 % Tomato
pomace (FE+TP). Each of the four dietary treatments was fed up to
30 days (10 birds/treatment). Live performance, egg production, egg
weight and quality were determined for whole period. Dietary
treatments had no effect (P>0.05) on live performance, egg weight,
yolk color, and egg production. Therefore, laying hens fed diets with
fibrolytic enzyme were significantly (P
Abstract: Degradation of polymeric insulation systems of
electrical equipments increases the space charge density and the
concentration of electrical dipoles. By consequence, the maximum
values and the slopes of absorption/resorption (A/R) currents can
change with insulation systems ageing. In this paper, an analysis of
the nature of the A/R currents and the importance of their
components, especially the polarization current and the current given
by the space charge, is presented. The experimental study concerns
the A/R currents measurements of plane samples (made from
CALMICAGLAS tapes), virgin and thermally accelerated aged. The
obtained results show that the ageing process produces an increase of
the values and a decrease of shapes of the A/R currents. Finally, the
possibility of estimating insulations ageing state and lifetime from
A/R currents measurements is discussed.
Abstract: The enthusiasm for gluten avoidance in a growing
market is met by improvements in sensitive detection methods for
analysing gluten content. Paradoxically, manufacturers employ no
such systems in the production process but continue to market their
product as gluten free, a significant risk posed to an undetermined
coeliac population. This paper resonates with an immunological
response that causes gastrointestinal scarring and villous atrophy with
the conventional description of personal injury. This thesis divulges
into evaluating potential inadequacies of gluten labelling laws which
not only present a diagnostic challenge for general practitioners in the
UK but it also exposes a less than adequate form of available legal
protection to those who suffer adverse reactions as a result of gluten
digestion. Central to this discussion is whether a claim brought in
misrepresentation, negligence and/or under the Consumer Protection
Act 1987 could be sustained. An interesting comparison is then made
with the legal regimes of neighboring jurisdictions furthering the
theme of a legally un-catered for gluten kingdom.
Abstract: There have been significant improvements in automatic
voice recognition technology. However, existing systems still face difficulties,
particularly when used by non-native speakers with accents.
In this paper we address a problem of identifying the English accented
speech of speakers from different backgrounds. Once an accent is
identified the speech recognition software can utilise training set from
appropriate accent and therefore improve the efficiency and accuracy
of the speech recognition system. We introduced the Q factor, which
is defined by the sum of relationships between frequencies of the
formants. Four different accents were considered and experimented
for this research. A scoring method was introduced in order to
effectively analyse accents. The proposed concept indicates that the
accent could be identified by analysing their formants.
Abstract: The paper deals with the kinematics and automated
calculation of intermittent mechanisms with radial cams. Currently,
electronic cams are increasingly applied in the drives of working link
mechanisms. Despite a huge advantage of electronic cams in their reprogrammability
or instantaneous change of displacement diagrams,
conventional cam mechanisms have an irreplaceable role in
production and handling machines. With high frequency of working
cycle periods, the dynamic load of the proper servomotor rotor
increases and efficiency of electronic cams strongly decreases.
Though conventional intermittent mechanisms with radial cams are
representatives of fixed automation, they have distinct advantages in
their high speed (high dynamics), positional accuracy and relatively
easy manufacture. We try to remove the disadvantage of firm
displacement diagram by reducing costs for simple design and
automated calculation that leads reliably to high-quality and
inexpensive manufacture.
Abstract: Very Large and/or computationally complex optimization problems sometimes require parallel or highperformance computing for achieving a reasonable time for computation. One of the most popular and most complicate problems of this family is “Traveling Salesman Problem". In this paper we have introduced a Branch & Bound based algorithm for the solution of such complicated problems. The main focus of the algorithm is to solve the “symmetric traveling salesman problem". We reviewed some of already available algorithms and felt that there is need of new algorithm which should give optimal solution or near to the optimal solution. On the basis of the use of logarithmic sampling, it was found that the proposed algorithm produced a relatively optimal solution for the problem and results excellent performance as compared with the traditional algorithms of this series.
Abstract: Control of complex systems is one of important files in complex systems, that not only relies on the essence of complex systems which is denoted by the core concept – emergence, but also embodies the elementary concept in control theory. Aiming at giving a clear and self-contained description of emergence, the paper introduces a formal way to completely describe the formation and dynamics of emergence in complex systems. Consequently, this paper indicates the Emergence-Oriented Control methodology that contains three kinds of basic control schemes: the direct control, the system re-structuring and the system calibration. As a universal ontology, the Emergence-Oriented Control provides a powerful tool for identifying and resolving control problems in specific systems.
Abstract: The main objective of our study is to collect data
about the profile of the asthmatic patients in Assam and thereby have
a comprehensive knowledge of the factors influencing the asthmatic
patients of the state and their medication pattern. We developed a
search strategy to find any publication about the community based
survey asthma related and used. These to search the MEDLINE
(1996 to current literature) CINAHL DOAJ pubmed databases using
the key phrases, Asthma, Respiratory disorders, Drug therapy of
Asthma, database decision support system and asthma. The
appropriate literature was printed out from the online source and
library (Journal) source. The study was conducted through a set of
structured and non-structured questionnaires targeted on the
asthmatic patients belonging to the rural and urban areas of Assam,
during the month of Dec 2006 to July 2007, 138 cases were studied
in Gauwathi Medical College & Hospital located in Bhangagarh,
Assam in India. The demographic characteristics a factor in 138
patients with asthma with allergic rhinitis (cases) gives the detail
profile of asthmatic patient-s distribution of Assam as classified on
the basis of age and sex. It is evident from the study that male
populations (66%) are more prone to asthma as compared to the
females (34%).Another striking features that emerged from this
survey is the maximum prevalence of asthma in the age group of 20-
30 years followed by infants belonging to the age group of 7 (0.05%)
0-10years among both male and female populations of Assam. The
high incidence of asthma in the age group of 20-30 years may
probably be due to the allergy arising out of sudden exposure to dust
and pollen which the children face while playing and going to the
school. The rural females in the age group of 30-40 years are more
prone to asthma than urban females in the same age group may be
due to sex differentiation among the tribal population of the state.
Pharmacists should educate the asthmatics how to use inhalers
considering growing menace of asthma in the state. Safer drugs
should be produced in the form of aerosol so that easy administration
by the asthmatic patients and physicians of the state is possible for
curing asthma. The health centers should be more equipped with the
medicines to cure asthma in the state like Assam.
Abstract: The problem of agricultural-soil pollution is closely
linked to the production of ecologically pure foodstuffs and to human health. An important task, therefore, is to rehabilitate agricultural
soils with the help of state-of-the-art biotechnologies, based on the use of metal-accumulating plants. In this work, on the basis of
literature data and the results of prior research from this laboratory, plants were selected for which the growing technology is well
developed and which are widespread locally: sugar sorghum (Sorghum saccharatum), sudangrass (Sorghum sudanense (Piper.)
Stapf.), and sunflower (Helianthus annuus L.). I report on laboratory
experiments designed to study the influence of synthetic indole-3-
acetic acid and the extracellular indole-3-acetic acid released by the
plant-growth-promoting rhizobacterium Azospirillum brasilense Sp245 on growth of and arsenic accumulation by these plants.
