Abstract: Presence of phytosterol compound in Durian seed
(Durio zibethinus) or known as King of fruits has been discovered
from screening work using reagent test. Further analysis work has
been carried out using mass spectrometer in order to support the
priliminary finding. Isolation and purification of the major
phytosterol has been carried out using an open column
chromatography. The separation was monitored using thin layer
chromatography (TLC). Major isolated compounds and purified
phytosterol were identified using mass spectrometer and nuclear
magnetic resonance (NMR). This novel finding could promote
utilization of durian seeds as a functional ingredient in food products
through production of standardized extract based on phytosterol
content.
Abstract: The antioxidant compounds are needed for the food, beverages, and pharmaceuticals industry. For this purpose, an appropriate method is required to measure the antioxidant properties in various types of samples. Spectrophotometric method usually used has some weaknesses, including the high price, long sample preparation time, and less sensitivity. Among the alternative methods developed to overcome these weaknesses is antioxidant biosensor based on superoxide dismutase (SOD) enzyme. Therefore, this study was carried out to measure the SOD activity originating from Deinococcus radiodurans and to determine its kinetics properties. Carbon paste electrode modified with ferrocene and immobilized SOD exhibited anode and cathode current peak at potential of +400 and +300mv respectively, in both pure SOD and SOD of D. radiodurans. This indicated that the current generated was from superoxide catalytic dismutation reaction by SOD. Optimum conditions for SOD activity was at pH 9 and temperature of 27.50C for D. radiodurans SOD, and pH 11 and temperature of 200C for pure SOD. Dismutation reaction kinetics of superoxide catalyzed by SOD followed the Lineweaver-Burk kinetics with D. radiodurans SOD KMapp value was smaller than pure SOD. The result showed that D. radiodurans SOD had higher enzyme-substrate affinity and specificity than pure SOD. It concluded that D. radiodurans SOD had a great potential as biological recognition component for antioxidant biosensor.
Abstract: Due to dynamic evolution, the ability of a
manufacturing technology to produce a special product is changing.
Therefore, it is essential to monitor the established techniques and
processes to detect whether a company-s production will fit future
circumstances. Concerning the manufacturing technology planning
process, companies must decide when to change to a new technology
for maintaining and increasing competitive advantages. In this
context, the maturity assessment of the focused technologies is
crucial. This article presents an approach for defining the maturity of
a manufacturing technology from a strategic point of view. The
concept is based on the approach of technology readiness level
(TRL) according to NASA (National Aeronautics and Space
Administration), but also includes dynamic changes. Therefore, the
model takes into account the concept of the technology life cycle.
Furthermore, it enables a company to estimate the ideal date for
implementation of a new manufacturing technology.
Abstract: Boron minerals are very useful for various industrial
activities, such as glass industry and detergent industry, due to its
mechanical and chemical properties. During the production of boron
compounds, many of these are introduced into the environment in the
form of waste. Boron is also an important micro nutrient for the
plants to vegetate but if it exists in high concentrations, it could have
toxic effects. The maximum boron level in drinking water for human
health is given as 0.3 mg/L in World Health Organization (WHO)
standards. The toxic effects of boron should be noted especially for
dry regions, thus, in recent years, increasing attention has been paid
to remove the boron from waste waters. In this study, boron removal
is implemented by ion exchange process using Amberlite IRA-743
resin. Amberlite IRA-743 resin is a boron specific resin and it
belongs to the polymerizate sorbent group within the aminopolyol
functional group. Batch studies were performed to investigate the
effects of various experimental parameters, such as adsorbent dose,
initial concentration and pH, on the removal of boron. It is found
that, when the adsorbent dose increases removal of boron from the
liquid phase increases. However, an increase in the initial
concentration decreases the removal of boron. The effective pH
values for removal of boron are determined between 8.5 and 9.
Equilibrium isotherms were also analyzed by Langmuir and
Freundlich isotherm models. The Langmuir isotherm is obeyed better
than the Freundlich isotherm.
Abstract: In the process of polyethylene extrusion polymer
material similar to powder or granule is under compression, melting
and transmission operation and on base of special form, extrudate has
been produced. Twin-screw extruders are applicable in industries
because of their high capacity. The powder mixing with chemical
additives and melting with thermal and mechanical energy in three
zones (feed, compression and metering zone) and because of gear
pump and screw's pressure, converting to final product in latest plate.
Extruders with twin-screw and short distance between screws are
better than other types because of their high capacity and good
thermal and mechanical stress.
In this paper, process of polyethylene extrusion and various tapes
of extruders are studied. It is necessary to have an exact control on
process to producing high quality products with safe operation and
optimum energy consumption.

Abstract: In this paper, by introducing twice continuously differentiable mappings, we develop an interior path following following method, which enables us to give a constructive proof of the general Brouwer fixed point theorem and thus to solve fixed point problems in a class of non-convex sets. Under suitable conditions, a smooth path can be proven to exist. This can lead to an implementable globally convergent algorithm. Several numerical examples are given to illustrate the results of this paper.
Abstract: This paper describes the design and modeling
procedure of a novel 5-phase segment type switched reluctance motor
(ST-SRM) under simultaneous two-phase (bipolar) excitation of
windings. The rotor cores of ST-SRM are embedded in an aluminum
block as well as to improve the performance characteristics. The
magnetic circuit of the produced ST-SRM is constructed so that the
magnetic flux paths are short and exclusive to each phase, thereby
minimizing the commutation switching and eddy current losses in the
laminations. The design and simulation principles presented apply
primarily to conventional SRM and ST-SRM. It is proved that the
novel 5-phase switched reluctance motor under two-phase excitation
is superior among the criteria used in comparison. The purposed
model is particularly well suited for high torque and weight
constrained applications such as automobiles, aerospace and military
applications.
Abstract: This paper emphasizes on the application of genetic algorithm (GA) to optimize the parameters of the TMD for achieving the best results in the reduction of the building response under earthquake excitations. The Integral of the Time multiplied Absolute value of the Error (ITAE) based on relative displacement of all floors in the building is taken as a performance index of the optimization criterion. The problem of robustly TMD controller design is formatted as an optimization problem based on the ITAE performance index to be solved using GA that has a story ability to find the most optimistic results. An 11–story realistic building, located in the city of Rasht, Iran is considered as a test system to demonstrate effectiveness of the proposed GA based TMD (GATMD) controller without specifying which mode should be controlled. The results of the proposed GATMD controller are compared with the uncontrolled structure through timedomain simulation and some performance indices. The results analysis reveals that the designed GA based TMD controller has an excellent capability in reduction of the seismically excited example building and the ITAE performance, that is so for remains as unknown, can be introduced a new criteria - method for structural dynamic design.
Abstract: The purpose of this paper is to discuss the influence of
resistance characteristic on the high conductive concrete considering
the various voltage and environment. The four-electrode method is
applied to the tailor-made high conductive concrete with appropriate
proportion. The curve of resistivity with the changes of voltage and
environment is plotted and the changes of resistivity are explored. The
result based on the methods reveals that resistivity is less affected by
the temperature factor, and the four-electrode method would be an
applicable measurement method on a site inspection.
Abstract: This study assessed fish marketing as panacea towards
sustainable agriculture in Ogun State, Nigeria. Multi-stage sampling
technique was used in the selection of 150 fish marketers for this
study. Descriptive statistics were used for the objectives while
Product Pearson Moment Correlation was used to test the hypothesis.
Result of the findings revealed that the mean age of the respondents
was 38.60 years. Majority (93.33%) of the respondents had
acceptable levels of formal education. Many (44.00%) of the
respondents had spent 1-5 years in fish marketing. The average
quantity of fish sold in a day was 94.10kg. However, efficient fish
marketing were hindered by inadequate processing equipment,
storage rooms and ice holding facilities (86.67%). There was a
significant relationship between socio-economic characteristics and
profit realized from fish marketing (p < 0.05). It was recommended
that storage and warehousing facilities should be provided to the fish
marketers in the study area.
Abstract: This research deals with investigations on the “Active
Generator" under rotor speed variations and output frequency
control. It runs at turbine speed and it is connected to a three phase
electrical power grid which has its own frequency different from
turbine frequency. In this regard the set composed of a four phase
synchronous generator and a natural commutated matrix converter
(NCMC) made with thyristors, is called active generator. It replaces a
classical mechanical gearbox which introduces many drawbacks. The
main idea in this article is the presentation of frequency control at
grid side when turbine runs at variable speed. Frequency control has
been done by linear and step variations of the turbine speed. Relation
between turbine speed (frequency) and main grid zero sequence
voltage frequency is presented.
Abstract: This research study aims to identify the impact of two
factors –growth and competitive strategies- on a set of building
production innovation strategies. It was conducted a questionery
survey to collect data from construction professionals and it was
asked them the importance level of predicted innovation strategies for
corporate strategies. Multiple analysis of variance (MANOVA) was
employed to see the main and interaction effects of corporate
strategies on building innovation strategies. The results indicate that
growth strategies such as entering in a new a market or new project
types has a greater effect on innovation strategies rather than
competitive strategies such as cost leadership or differentiation
strategies. However the interaction effect of competitive strategies
and growth strategies on innovation strategies is much bigger than
the only effect of competitive strategies. It was also analyzed the
descriptive statistics of innovation strategies for different competitive
and growth strategy types.

increased by an average of 80%, average time in the system was
decreased 86% and waiting time was decreased 90%.
Abstract: We present new finite element methods for Helmholtz and Maxwell equations on general three-dimensional polyhedral meshes, based on domain decomposition with boundary elements on the surfaces of the polyhedral volume elements. The methods use the lowest-order polynomial spaces and produce sparse, symmetric linear systems despite the use of boundary elements. Moreover, piecewise constant coefficients are admissible. The resulting approximation on the element surfaces can be extended throughout the domain via representation formulas. Numerical experiments confirm that the convergence behavior on tetrahedral meshes is comparable to that of standard finite element methods, and equally good performance is attained on more general meshes.
Abstract: Sugarcane bagasses are one of the most extensively used agricultural residues. Using acid hydrolysis and fermentation, conversion of sugarcane bagasses to lactic acid was technically and economically feasible. This research was concerned with the solubility of lignin in ammonium hydroxide, acid hydrolysis and lactic acid fermentation by Lactococcus lactis, Lactobacillus delbrueckii, Lactobacillus plantarum, and Lactobacillus casei. The lignin extraction results for different ammonium hydroxide concentrations showed that 10 % (v/v) NH4OH was favorable to lignin dissolution. Acid hydrolysis can be enhanced with increasing acid concentration and reaction temperature. The optimum glucose and xylose concentrations occurred at 121 ○C for 1 hour hydrolysis time in 10% sulphuric acid solution were 32 and 11 g/l, respectively. In order to investigate the significance of medium composition on lactic acid production, experiments were undertaken whereby a culture of Lactococcus lactis was grown under various glucose, peptone, yeast extract and xylose concentrations. The optimum medium was composed of 5 g/l glucose, 2.5 g/l xylose, 10 g/l peptone and 5 g/l yeast extract. Lactococcus lactis represents the most efficient for lactic acid production amongst those considered. The lactic acid fermentation by Lactococcus lactis after 72 hours gave the highest yield of 1.4 (g lactic acid per g reducing sugar).
Abstract: Acetaminophen (Paracetamol) tablets are popular OTC products among patients as analgesics and antipyretics. Paracetamol is marketed by a lot of suppliers around the world. The aim of the present investigation was to compare between many types of paracetamol tablets obtained from different suppliers (six brands produced by different pharmaceutical companies in middle east countries, and Panadol® manufactured in Ireland), by different quality control tests according to USP pharmacopeia.Using Non official tests-hardness and friability; official tests- disintegration, dissolution, and drug content. Additionally, evaluate the influence of temperatures 4°C, 25°C and 40°C at 75% relative humidity on the stability of the same brands in their original packaging has been conducted for two months. The results revealed that all paracetamol tablet brands complied with the official USP specifications. In conclusion, paracetamol tablets preferred to be stored at 25°C. All the tested brands being biopharmaceutically and chemically equivalent.
Abstract: Let G be a fuzzy graph. Then D Ôèå V is said to be a strong (weak) fuzzy dominating set of G if every vertex v ∈ V -D is strongly (weakly) dominated by some vertex u in D. We denote a strong (weak) fuzzy dominating set by sfd-set (wfd-set). The minimum scalar cardinality of a sfd-set (wfd-set) is called the strong (weak) fuzzy domination number of G and it is denoted by γsf (G)γwf (G). In this paper we introduce the concept of strong (weak) domination in fuzzy graphs and obtain some interesting results for this new parameter in fuzzy graphs.
Abstract: Interactive web-based computer simulations are
needed by the medical community to replicate the experience of
surgical procedures as closely and realistically as possible without
the need to practice on corpses, animals and/or plastic models. In this
paper, we offer a review on current state of the research on
simulations of surgical threads, identify future needs and present our
proposed plans to meet them. Our goal is to create a physics-based
simulator, which will predict the behavior of surgical thread when
subjected to conditions commonly encountered during surgery. To
that end, we will i) develop three dimensional finite element models
based on the Cosserat theory of elasticity ii) test and feedback results
with the medical community and iii) develop a web-based user
interface to run/command our simulator and visualize the results. The
impacts of our research are that i) it will contribute to the
development of a new generation of training for medical school
students and ii) the simulator will be useful to expert surgeons in
developing new, better and less risky procedures.
Abstract: Different techniques for estimating seasonal water
use from soil profile water depletion frequently do not account for
flux below the root zone. Shallow water table contribution to supply
crop water use may be important in arid and semi-arid regions.
Development of predictive root uptake models, under influence of
shallow water table makes it possible for planners to incorporate
interaction between water table and root zone into design of irrigation
projects. A model for obtaining soil moisture depletion from root
zone and water movement below it is discussed with the objective to
determine impact of shallow water table on seasonal moisture
depletion patterns under water table depth variation, up to the bottom
of root zone. The role of different boundary conditions has also been
considered. Three crops: Wheat (Triticum aestivum), Corn (Zea
mays) and Potato (Solanum tuberosum), common in arid & semi-arid
regions, are chosen for the study. Using experimentally obtained soil
moisture depletion values for potential soil moisture conditions,
moisture depletion patterns using a non linear root uptake model have
been obtained for different water table depths. Comparative analysis
of the moisture depletion patterns under these conditions show a wide
difference in percent depletion from different layers of root zone
particularly top and bottom layers with middle layers showing
insignificant variation in moisture depletion values. Moisture
depletion in top layer, when the water table rises to root zone
increases by 19.7%, 22.9% & 28.2%, whereas decrease in bottom
layer is 68.8%, 61.6% & 64.9% in case of wheat, corn & potato
respectively. The paper also discusses the causes and consequences
of increase in moisture depletion from top layers and exceptionally
high reduction in bottom layer, and the possible remedies for the
same. The numerical model developed for the study can be used to
help formulating irrigation strategies for areas where shallow
groundwater of questionable quality is an option for crop production.
Abstract: Efficient and safe plant operation can only be
achieved if the operators are able to monitor all key process
parameters. Instrumentation is used to measure many process
variables, like temperatures, pressures, flow rates, compositions or
other product properties. Therefore Performance monitoring is a
suitable tool for operators. In this paper, we integrate rigorous
simulation model, data reconciliation and parameter estimation to
monitor process equipments and determine key performance
indicator (KPI) of them. The applied method here has been
implemented in two case studies.
