Abstract: In this study, a three dimensional numerical heat
transfer model has been used to simulate the laser structuring of
polymer substrate material in the Three-Dimensional Molded
Interconnect Device (3D MID) which is used in the advanced multifunctional
applications. A finite element method (FEM) transient
thermal analysis is performed using APDL (ANSYS Parametric
Design Language) provided by ANSYS. In this model, the effect of
surface heat source was modeled with Gaussian distribution, also the
effect of the mixed boundary conditions which consist of convection
and radiation heat transfers have been considered in this analysis. The
model provides a full description of the temperature distribution, as
well as calculates the depth and the width of the groove upon material
removal at different set of laser parameters such as laser power and
laser speed. This study also includes the experimental procedure to
study the effect of laser parameters on the depth and width of the
removal groove metal as verification to the modeled results. Good
agreement between the experimental and the model results is
achieved for a wide range of laser powers. It is found that the quality
of the laser structure process is affected by the laser scan speed and
laser power. For a high laser structured quality, it is suggested to use
laser with high speed and moderate to high laser power.
Abstract: Estimation of a proportion has many applications in
economics and social studies. A common application is the estimation
of the low income proportion, which gives the proportion of people
classified as poor into a population. In this paper, we present this
poverty indicator and propose to use the logistic regression estimator
for the problem of estimating the low income proportion. Various
sampling designs are presented. Assuming a real data set obtained
from the European Survey on Income and Living Conditions, Monte
Carlo simulation studies are carried out to analyze the empirical
performance of the logistic regression estimator under the various
sampling designs considered in this paper. Results derived from
Monte Carlo simulation studies indicate that the logistic regression
estimator can be more accurate than the customary estimator under
the various sampling designs considered in this paper. The stratified
sampling design can also provide more accurate results.
Abstract: This paper reports the empirical investigation on the
effect of involuntary displacement of indigenous tribes on their sociocultural
and food practices. A descriptive research design using the
quantitative approach was applied and individual of indigenous tribes
as unit of analysis. Through a self-administered survey among two
selected Malaysia indigenous tribes, one hundred fifty questionnaires
were successfully collected. With the application of descriptive and
inferential statistic some useful insights pertaining to the issue
investigated was significantly obtained. Findings revealed that
improvement on the socio-culture, economy and knowledge is
apparent on the indigenous groups’ resulted from displacement
program. Displacement also has a slight impact on indigenous
groups’ food practices. These positive indications provide significant
implications, not only for the indigenous groups themselves, but also
for the responsible authorities.
Abstract: In order to investigate the effect of Plant Growth
Promoting Rhizobacteria (PGPR) and rhizobium bacteria on grain
yield and some agronomic traits of mungbean (Vigna radiate L.), an
experiment was carried out based on randomized complete block
design with three replications in Malekshahi, Ilam province, Iran
during 2012-2013 cropping season. Experimental treatments
consisted of control treatment, inoculation with rhizobium bacteria,
rhizobium bacteria and Azotobacter, rhizobium bacteria and
Azospirillum, rhizobium bacteria and Pseudomonas, rhizobium
bacteria, Azotobacter and Azospirillum, rhizobium bacteria,
Azotobacter and Pseudomonas, rhizobium bacteria, Azospirillum and
Pseudomonas and rhizobium bacteria, Azotobacter, Azospirillum and
Pseudomonas. The results showed that the effect of PGPR and
rhizobium bacteria were significant affect on grain and its
components in mungbean plant. Grain yield significantly increased
by PGPR and rhizobium bacteria, so that the maximum grain yield
was obtained from rhizobium bacteria + Azospirillum +
Pseudomonas with the amount of 2287 kg.ha-1 as compared to
control treatment. Excessive application of chemical fertilizers causes
environmental and economic problems. That is, the overfertilization
of P and N leads to pollution due to soil erosion and runoff water, so
the use of PGPR and rhizobium bacteria can be justified due to
reduce input costs, increase in grain yield and environmental friendly.
Abstract: The system is designed to show images which are
related to the query image. Extracting color, texture, and shape
features from an image plays a vital role in content-based image
retrieval (CBIR). Initially RGB image is converted into HSV color
space due to its perceptual uniformity. From the HSV image, Color
features are extracted using block color histogram, texture features
using Haar transform and shape feature using Fuzzy C-means
Algorithm. Then, the characteristics of the global and local color
histogram, texture features through co-occurrence matrix and Haar
wavelet transform and shape are compared and analyzed for CBIR.
Finally, the best method of each feature is fused during similarity
measure to improve image retrieval effectiveness and accuracy.
Abstract: The paper a summary of the results of concretes with
partial substitution of natural aggregates with recycled concrete is
solved. Design formulas of the concretes were characterised with 20,
40 and 60% substitution of natural 8-16mm fraction aggregates with
a selected recycled concrete of analogous coarse fractions. With the
product samples an evaluation of coarse fraction aggregates influence
on fresh concrete consistency and concrete strength in time was
carried out. The results of concretes with aggregates substitution will
be compared to reference formula containing only the fractions of
natural aggregates.
Abstract: Anultra-low power capacitor less low-dropout voltage
regulator with improved transient response using gain enhanced feed
forward path compensation is presented in this paper. It is based on a
cascade of a voltage amplifier and a transconductor stage in the feed
forward path with regular error amplifier to form a composite gainenhanced
feed forward stage. It broadens the gain bandwidth and thus
improves the transient response without substantial increase in power
consumption. The proposed LDO, designed for a maximum output
current of 100 mA in UMC 180 nm, requires a quiescent current of
69 )A. An undershot of 153.79mV for a load current changes from
0mA to 100mA and an overshoot of 196.24mV for current change of
100mA to 0mA. The settling time is approximately 1.1 )s for the
output voltage undershooting case. The load regulation is of 2.77
)V/mA at load current of 100mA. Reference voltage is generated by
using an accurate band gap reference circuit of 0.8V.The costly
features of SOC such as total chip area and power consumption is
drastically reduced by the use of only a total compensation
capacitance of 6pF while consuming power consumption of 0.096
mW.
Abstract: The most important part of modern lean low NOx combustors is a premixer where swirlers are often used for intensification of mixing processes and further formation of required flow pattern in combustor liner. Swirling flow leads to formation of complex eddy structures causing flow perturbations. It is able to cause combustion instability. Therefore, at design phase, it is necessary to pay great attention to aerodynamics of premixers. Analysis based on unsteady CFD modeling of swirling flow in production combustor swirler showed presence of large number of different eddy structures that can be conditionally divided into three types relative to its location of origin and a propagation path. Further, features of each eddy type were subsequently defined. Comparison of calculated and experimental pressure fluctuations spectrums verified correctness of computations.
Abstract: Composite materials have important assets compared
to traditional materials. They bring many functional advantages:
lightness, mechanical resistance and chemical, etc. In the present
study we examine the effect of a circular central notch and a precrack
on the tensile fracture of two woven composite materials. The tensile
tests were applied to a standardized specimen, notched and a
precarcked (orientation of the crack 0°, 45° and 90°). These tensile
tests were elaborated according to an experimental planning design of
the type 23.31 requiring 24 experiments with three repetitions. By the
analysis of regression, we obtained a mathematical model describing
the maximum load according to the influential parameters (hole
diameter, precrack length, angle of a precrack orientation). The
specimens precracked at 90° have a better behavior than those having
a precrack at 45° and still better than those having of the precracks
oriented at 0°. In addition the maximum load is inversely
proportional to the notch size.
Abstract: Color Histogram is considered as the oldest method
used by CBIR systems for indexing images. In turn, the global
histograms do not include the spatial information; this is why the
other techniques coming later have attempted to encounter this
limitation by involving the segmentation task as a preprocessing step.
The weak segmentation is employed by the local histograms while
other methods as CCV (Color Coherent Vector) are based on strong
segmentation. The indexation based on local histograms consists of
splitting the image into N overlapping blocks or sub-regions, and
then the histogram of each block is computed. The dissimilarity
between two images is reduced, as consequence, to compute the
distance between the N local histograms of the both images resulting
then in N*N values; generally, the lowest value is taken into account
to rank images, that means that the lowest value is that which helps to
designate which sub-region utilized to index images of the collection
being asked. In this paper, we make under light the local histogram
indexation method in the hope to compare the results obtained against
those given by the global histogram. We address also another
noteworthy issue when Relying on local histograms namely which
value, among N*N values, to trust on when comparing images, in
other words, which sub-region among the N*N sub-regions on which
we base to index images. Based on the results achieved here, it seems
that relying on the local histograms, which needs to pose an extra
overhead on the system by involving another preprocessing step
naming segmentation, does not necessary mean that it produces better
results. In addition to that, we have proposed here some ideas to
select the local histogram on which we rely on to encode the image
rather than relying on the local histogram having lowest distance with
the query histograms.
Abstract: Frequent pattern mining is the process of finding a
pattern (a set of items, subsequences, substructures, etc.) that occurs
frequently in a data set. It was proposed in the context of frequent
itemsets and association rule mining. Frequent pattern mining is used
to find inherent regularities in data. What products were often
purchased together? Its applications include basket data analysis,
cross-marketing, catalog design, sale campaign analysis, Web log
(click stream) analysis, and DNA sequence analysis. However, one of
the bottlenecks of frequent itemset mining is that as the data increase
the amount of time and resources required to mining the data
increases at an exponential rate. In this investigation a new algorithm
is proposed which can be uses as a pre-processor for frequent itemset
mining. FASTER (FeAture SelecTion using Entropy and Rough sets)
is a hybrid pre-processor algorithm which utilizes entropy and roughsets
to carry out record reduction and feature (attribute) selection
respectively. FASTER for frequent itemset mining can produce a
speed up of 3.1 times when compared to original algorithm while
maintaining an accuracy of 71%.
Abstract: This paper presents a 3D guidance scheme for
Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs). The proposed guidance scheme
is based on the sliding mode approach using nonlinear sliding
manifolds. Generalized 3D kinematic equations are considered
here during the design process to cater for the coupling between
longitudinal and lateral motions. Sliding mode based guidance
scheme is then derived for the multiple-input multiple-output
(MIMO) system using the proposed nonlinear manifolds. Instead of
traditional sliding surfaces, nonlinear sliding surfaces are proposed
here for performance and stability in all flight conditions. In the
reaching phase control inputs, the bang-bang terms with signum
functions are accompanied with proportional terms in order to reduce
the chattering amplitudes. The Proposed 3D guidance scheme is
implemented on a 6-degrees-of-freedom (6-dof) simulation of a UAV
and simulation results are presented here for different 3D trajectories
with and without disturbances.
Abstract: The relationship between eigenstructure (eigenvalues
and eigenvectors) and latent structure (latent roots and latent vectors)
is established. In control theory eigenstructure is associated with
the state space description of a dynamic multi-variable system and
a latent structure is associated with its matrix fraction description.
Beginning with block controller and block observer state space forms
and moving on to any general state space form, we develop the
identities that relate eigenvectors and latent vectors in either direction.
Numerical examples illustrate this result. A brief discussion of the
potential of these identities in linear control system design follows.
Additionally, we present a consequent result: a quick and easy
method to solve the polynomial eigenvalue problem for regular matrix
polynomials.
Abstract: Sudoku is a logic-based combinatorial puzzle game
which people in different ages enjoy playing it. The challenging and
addictive nature of this game has made it a ubiquitous game. Most
magazines, newspapers, puzzle books, etc. publish lots of Sudoku
puzzles every day. These puzzles often come in different levels of
difficulty so that all people, from beginner to expert, can play the
game and enjoy it. Generating puzzles with different levels of
difficulty is a major concern of Sudoku designers. There are several
works in the literature which propose ways of generating puzzles
having a desirable level of difficulty. In this paper, we propose a
method based on constraint satisfaction problems to evaluate the
difficulty of the Sudoku puzzles. Then we propose a hill climbing
method to generate puzzles with different levels of difficulty.
Whereas other methods are usually capable of generating puzzles
with only few number of difficulty levels, our method can be used to
generate puzzles with arbitrary number of different difficulty levels.
We test our method by generating puzzles with different levels of
difficulty and having a group of 15 people solve all the puzzles and
recording the time they spend for each puzzle.
Abstract: This study aimed at designing and developing a
mechanical force gauge for the square watermelon mold for the first
time. It also tried to introduce the square watermelon characteristics
and its production limitations. The mechanical force gauge
performance and the product itself were also described. There are
three main designable gauge models: a. hydraulic gauge, b. strain
gauge, and c. mechanical gauge. The advantage of the hydraulic
model is that it instantly displays the pressure and thus the force
exerted by the melon. However, considering the inability to measure
forces at all directions, complicated development, high cost, possible
hydraulic fluid leak into the fruit chamber and the possible influence
of increased ambient temperature on the fluid pressure, the
development of this gauge was overruled. The second choice was to
calculate pressure using the direct force a strain gauge. The main
advantage of these strain gauges over spring types is their high
precision in measurements; but with regard to the lack of conformity
of strain gauge working range with water melon growth, calculations
were faced with problems. Finally the mechanical pressure gauge has
advantages, including the ability to measured forces and pressures on
the mold surface during melon growth; the ability to display the peak
forces; the ability to produce melon growth graph thanks to its
continuous force measurements; the conformity of its manufacturing
materials with the required physical conditions of melon growth; high
air conditioning capability; the ability to permit sunlight reaches the
melon rind (no yellowish skin and quality loss); fast and
straightforward calibration; no damages to the product during
assembling and disassembling; visual check capability of the product
within the mold; applicable to all growth environments (field,
greenhouses, etc.); simple process; low costs and so forth.
Abstract: Web search engines are designed to retrieve and
extract the information in the web databases and to return dynamic
web pages. The Semantic Web is an extension of the current web in
which it includes semantic content in web pages. The main goal of
semantic web is to promote the quality of the current web by
changing its contents into machine understandable form. Therefore,
the milestone of semantic web is to have semantic level information
in the web. Nowadays, people use different keyword- based search
engines to find the relevant information they need from the web.
But many of the words are polysemous. When these words are
used to query a search engine, it displays the Search Result Records
(SRRs) with different meanings. The SRRs with similar meanings are
grouped together based on Word Sense Disambiguation (WSD). In
addition to that semantic annotation is also performed to improve the
efficiency of search result records. Semantic Annotation is the
process of adding the semantic metadata to web resources. Thus the
grouped SRRs are annotated and generate a summary which
describes the information in SRRs. But the automatic semantic
annotation is a significant challenge in the semantic web. Here
ontology and knowledge based representation are used to annotate
the web pages.
Abstract: As currently various portable devices were launched,
smart business conducted using them became common. Since smart
business can use company-internal resources in an exlternal remote
place, user authentication that can identify authentic users is an
important factor. Commonly used user authentication is a method of
using user ID and Password. In the user authentication using ID and
Password, the user should see and enter authentication information
him or her. In this user authentication system depending on the user’s
vision, there is the threat of password leaks through snooping in the
process which the user enters his or her authentication information.
This study designed and produced a user authentication module
using an actuator to respond to the snooping threat.
Abstract: Lightning protection systems (LPS) for wind power
generation is becoming an important public issue. A serious damage
of blades, accidents where low-voltage and control circuit
breakdowns are frequently occur in many wind farms. A grounding
system is one of the most important components required for
appropriate LPSs in wind turbines WTs. Proper design of a wind
turbine grounding system is demanding and several factors for the
proper and effective implementation must taken into account. In this
paper proposed procedure of proper design of grounding systems for
a wind turbine was introduced. This procedure depends on measuring
of ground current of simulated wind farm under lightning taking into
consideration the soil ionization. The procedure also includes the
Ground Potential Rise (GPR) and the voltage distributions at ground
surface level and Touch potential. In particular, the contribution of
mitigating techniques, such as rings, rods and the proposed design
were investigated.
Abstract: This paper presents the design and analysis of Liquid
Crystal (LC) based tunable reflectarray antenna with different design
configurations within X-band frequency range. The effect of LC
volume used for unit cell element on frequency tunability and
reflection loss performance has been investigated. Moreover different
slot embedded patch element configurations have been proposed for
LC based tunable reflectarray antenna design with enhanced
performance. The detailed fabrication and measurement procedure
for different LC based unit cells has been presented. The waveguide
scattering parameter measured results demonstrated that by using the
circular slot embedded patch elements, the frequency tunability and
dynamic phase range can be increased from 180MHz to 200MHz and
120° to 124° respectively. Furthermore the circular slot embedded
patch element can be designed at 10GHz resonant frequency with a
patch volume of 2.71mm3 as compared to 3.47mm3 required for
rectangular patch without slot.
Abstract: A blood pressure monitor or sphygmomanometer can
be either manual or automatic, employing respectively either the
auscultatory method or the oscillometric method.
The manual version of the sphygmomanometer involves an
inflatable cuff with a stethoscope adopted to detect the sounds
generated by the arterial walls to measure blood pressure in an artery.
An automatic sphygmomanometer can be effectively used to
monitor blood pressure through a pressure sensor, which detects
vibrations provoked by oscillations of the arterial walls.
The pressure sensor implemented in this device improves the
accuracy of the measurements taken.
