Abstract: With the increasing demand of bandwidth and data rate,
there is a dire need to implement antenna systems in mobile phones
which are able to fulfill user requirements. A monopole antenna
system with multi-antennas configurations is proposed considering
the feasibility and user demand. The multi-antenna structure is
referred to as multi-input multi-output (MIMO) antenna system. The
multi-antenna system comprises of 4 antennas operating below 6
GHz frequency bands for 4G/LTE and 4 antenna for 5G applications
at 28 GHz and the dimension of board is 120 × 70 × 0.8mm3.
The suggested designs is feasible with a structure of low-profile
planar-antenna and is adaptable to smart cell phones and handheld
devices. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first design
compared to the literature by having integrated antenna system
for two standards, i.e., 4G and 5G. All MIMO antenna systems
are simulated on commercially available software, which is high
frequency structures simulator (HFSS).
Abstract: In this paper, a method of fast 3D topography modeling using the high-resolution camera images is studied based on the characteristics of Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) system for low altitude aerial photogrammetry and the need of three dimensional (3D) urban landscape modeling. Firstly, the existing high-resolution digital camera with special design of overlap images is designed by reconstructing and analyzing the auto-flying paths of UAVs, which improves the self-calibration function to achieve the high precision imaging by software, and further increased the resolution of the imaging system. Secondly, several-angle images including vertical images and oblique images gotten by the UAV system are used for the detail measure of urban land surfaces and the texture extraction. Finally, the aerial photography and 3D topography construction are both developed in campus of Chang-Jung University and in Guerin district area in Tainan, Taiwan, provide authentication model for construction of 3D topography based on combined UAV-based camera images from system. The results demonstrated that the UAV system for low altitude aerial photogrammetry can be used in the construction of 3D topography production, and the technology solution in this paper offers a new, fast, and technical plan for the 3D expression of the city landscape, fine modeling and visualization.
Abstract: Lead contamination of agricultural land mainly vegetated with perennial ryegrass (Lolium perenne) has been investigated. The metal derived from the discharge of sludge from a ceramic industry in the past had used lead paints. The results showed very high values of lead concentration in many soil samples. In order to assess the lead soil contamination, a sequential extraction with H2O, KNO3, EDTA was performed, and the chemical forms of lead in the soil were evaluated. More than 70% of lead was in a potentially bioavailable form. Analysis of Lolium perenne showed elevated lead concentration. A Freundlich-like model was used to describe the transferability of the metal from the soil to the plant.
Abstract: The advancement in various concrete ingredients like plasticizers, additives and fibers, etc. has enabled concrete technologists to develop many viable varieties of special concretes in recent decades. Such various varieties of concrete have significant enhancement in green as well as hardened properties of concrete. A prudent selection of appropriate type of concrete can resolve many design and application issues in construction projects. This paper focuses on usage of self-compacting concrete, high early strength concrete, structural lightweight concrete, fiber reinforced concrete, high performance concrete and ultra-high strength concrete in the structures. The modified properties of strength at various ages, flowability, porosity, equilibrium density, flexural strength, elasticity, permeability etc. need to be carefully studied and incorporated into the design of the structures. The paper demonstrates various mixture combinations and the concrete properties that can be leveraged. The selection of such products based on the end use of structures has been proposed in order to efficiently utilize the modified characteristics of these concrete varieties. The study involves mapping the characteristics with benefits and savings for the structure from design perspective. Self-compacting concrete in the structure is characterized by high shuttering loads, better finish, and feasibility of closer reinforcement spacing. The structural design procedures can be modified to specify higher formwork strength, height of vertical members, cover reduction and increased ductility. The transverse reinforcement can be spaced at closer intervals compared to regular structural concrete. It allows structural lightweight concrete structures to be designed for reduced dead load, increased insulation properties. Member dimensions and steel requirement can be reduced proportionate to about 25 to 35 percent reduction in the dead load due to self-weight of concrete. Steel fiber reinforced concrete can be used to design grade slabs without primary reinforcement because of 70 to 100 percent higher tensile strength. The design procedures incorporate reduction in thickness and joint spacing. High performance concrete employs increase in the life of the structures by improvement in paste characteristics and durability by incorporating supplementary cementitious materials. Often, these are also designed for slower heat generation in the initial phase of hydration. The structural designer can incorporate the slow development of strength in the design and specify 56 or 90 days strength requirement. For designing high rise building structures, creep and elasticity properties of such concrete also need to be considered. Lastly, certain structures require a performance under loading conditions much earlier than final maturity of concrete. High early strength concrete has been designed to cater to a variety of usages at various ages as early as 8 to 12 hours. Therefore, an understanding of concrete performance specifications for special concrete is a definite door towards a superior structural design approach.
Abstract: The latent heat thermal energy storage system is a
thrust area of research due to exuberant thermal energy storage
potential. The thermal performance of PCM is significantly
augmented by installation of the high thermal conductivity fins. The
objective of the present study is to obtain optimum size and location
of the fins to enhance diffusion heat transfer without altering overall
melting time. Hence, the constructal theory is employed to eliminate,
resize, and re-position the fins. A numerical code based on conjugate
heat transfer coupled enthalpy porosity approached is developed to
solve Navier-Stoke and energy equation.The numerical results show
that the constructal fin design has enhanced the thermal performance
along with the increase in the overall volume of PCM when
compared to conventional. The overall volume of PCM is found to be
increased by half of total of volume of fins. The elimination and repositioning
the fins at high temperature gradient from low
temperature gradient is found to be vital.
Abstract: This paper describes the design and implementation of
web system for continuable and viable collaboration. This study
proposes the improvement of the system based on a result of a certain
practice. As contemporary higher education information environments
transform, this study highlights the significance of university identity
and college identity that are formed continuously through independent
activities of the students. Based on these discussions, the present study
proposes a practical media environment design which facilitates the
processes of organizational identity formation based on a continuous
and cyclical model. Even if users change by this system, the
communication system continues operation and cooperation. The
activity becomes the archive and produces new activity. Based on the
result, this study elaborates a plan with a re-design by a system from
the viewpoint of second-order cybernetics. Systems theory is a
theoretical foundation for our study.
Abstract: Tire noise has a significant impact on ride quality
and vehicle interior comfort, even at low frequency. Reduction of
tire noise is especially important due to strict state and federal
environmental regulations. The primary sources of tire noise are the
low frequency structure-borne noise and the noise that originates from
the release of trapped air between the tire tread and road surface
during each revolution of the tire. The frequency response of the tire
changes at low and high frequency. At low frequency, the tension
and bending moment become dominant, while the internal structure
and local deformation become dominant at higher frequencies. Here,
we analyze tire response in terms of deformation and rolling velocity
at low revolution frequency. An Abaqus FEA finite element model
is used to calculate the static and dynamic response of a rolling tire
under different rolling conditions. The natural frequencies and mode
shapes of a deformed tire are calculated with the FEA package where
the subspace-based steady state dynamic analysis calculates dynamic
response of tire subjected to harmonic excitation. The analysis was
conducted on the dynamic response at the road (contact point of tire
and road surface) and side nodes of a static and rolling tire when
the tire was excited with 200 N vertical load for a frequency ranging
from 20 to 200 Hz. The results show that frequency has little effect on
tire deformation up to 80 Hz. But between 80 and 200 Hz, the radial
and lateral components of displacement of the road and side nodes
exhibited significant oscillation. For the static analysis, the fluctuation
was sharp and frequent and decreased with frequency. In contrast, the
fluctuation was periodic in nature for the dynamic response of the
rolling tire. In addition to the dynamic analysis, a steady state rolling
analysis was also performed on the tire traveling at ground velocity
with a constant angular motion. The purpose of the computation
was to demonstrate the effect of rotating motion on deformation and
rolling velocity with respect to a fixed Newtonian reference point.
The analysis showed a significant variation in deformation and rolling
velocity due to centrifugal and Coriolis acceleration with respect to
a fixed Newtonian point on ground.
Abstract: Bullet penetration in steel plate is investigated with
the help of three-dimensional, non-linear, transient, dynamic, finite
elements analysis using explicit time integration code LSDYNA. The
effect of large strain, strain-rate and temperature at very high velocity
regime was studied from number of simulations of semi-spherical
nose shape bullet penetration through single layered circular plate
with 2 mm thickness at impact velocities of 500, 1000, and 1500 m/s
with the help of Johnson Cook material model. Mie-Gruneisen
equation of state is used in conjunction with Johnson Cook material
model to determine pressure-volume relationship at various points of
interests. Two material models viz. Plastic-Kinematic and Johnson-
Cook resulted in different deformation patterns in steel plate. It is
observed from the simulation results that the velocity drop and loss of
kinetic energy occurred very quickly up to perforation of plate, after
that the change in velocity and changes in kinetic energy are
negligibly small. The physics behind this kind of behaviour is
presented in the paper.
Abstract: An increasing degree of automation in air traffic will also change the role of the air traffic controller (ATCO). ATCOs will fulfill significantly more monitoring tasks compared to today. However, this rather passive role may lead to Out-Of-The-Loop (OOTL) effects comprising vigilance decrement and less situation awareness. The project MINIMA (Mitigating Negative Impacts of Monitoring high levels of Automation) has conceived a system to control and mitigate such OOTL phenomena. In order to demonstrate the MINIMA concept, an experimental simulation set-up has been designed. This set-up consists of two parts: 1) a Task Environment (TE) comprising a Terminal Maneuvering Area (TMA) simulator as well as 2) a Vigilance and Attention Controller (VAC) based on neurophysiological data recording such as electroencephalography (EEG) and eye-tracking devices. The current vigilance level and the attention focus of the controller are measured during the ATCO’s active work in front of the human machine interface (HMI). The derived vigilance level and attention trigger adaptive automation functionalities in the TE to avoid OOTL effects. This paper describes the full-scale experimental set-up and the component development work towards it. Hence, it encompasses a pre-test whose results influenced the development of the VAC as well as the functionalities of the final TE and the two VAC’s sub-components.
Abstract: With recent trends in Big Data and advancements
in Information and Communication Technologies, the healthcare
industry is at the stage of its transition from clinician oriented to
technology oriented. Many people around the world die of cancer
because the diagnosis of disease was not done at an early stage.
Nowadays, the computational methods in the form of Machine
Learning (ML) are used to develop automated decision support
systems that can diagnose cancer with high confidence in a timely
manner. This paper aims to carry out the comparative evaluation
of a selected set of ML classifiers on two existing datasets: breast
cancer and cervical cancer. The ML classifiers compared in this study
are Decision Tree (DT), Support Vector Machine (SVM), k-Nearest
Neighbor (k-NN), Logistic Regression, Ensemble (Bagged Tree) and
Artificial Neural Networks (ANN). The evaluation is carried out based
on standard evaluation metrics Precision (P), Recall (R), F1-score and
Accuracy. The experimental results based on the evaluation metrics
show that ANN showed the highest-level accuracy (99.4%) when
tested with breast cancer dataset. On the other hand, when these
ML classifiers are tested with the cervical cancer dataset, Ensemble
(Bagged Tree) technique gave better accuracy (93.1%) in comparison
to other classifiers.
Abstract: We report the enhancement of Raman scattering
signal by one order of magnitude using photonic nanojet (PNJ) of a
lollipop shaped dielectric microstructure (LSDM) fabricated by a
pulsed CO₂ laser. Here, the PNJ is generated by illuminating sphere
portion of the LSDM with non-resonant laser. Unlike the surface
enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) technique, this technique is
simple, and the obtained results are highly reproducible. In addition,
an efficient technique is proposed to enhance the SERS signal with
the help of high quality factor optical resonance (whispering gallery
mode) of a LSDM. From the theoretical simulations, it has been
found that at least an order of magnitude enhancement in the SERS
signal could be achieved easily using the proposed technique. We
strongly believe that this report will enable the research community
for improving the Raman scattering signals.
Abstract: Low-temperature waste heat is abundant in the process industries, and large amounts of Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) cold energy are discarded without being recovered properly in LNG terminals. Power generation is an effective way to utilize low-temperature waste heat and LNG cold energy simultaneously. Organic Rankine Cycles (ORCs) and CO2 power cycles are promising technologies to convert low-temperature waste heat and LNG cold energy into electricity. If waste heat and LNG cold energy are utilized simultaneously in one system, the performance may outperform separate systems utilizing low-temperature waste heat and LNG cold energy, respectively. Low-temperature waste heat acts as the heat source and LNG regasification acts as the heat sink in the combined system. Due to the large temperature difference between the heat source and the heat sink, cascaded power cycle configurations are proposed in this paper. Cascaded power cycles can improve the energy efficiency of the system considerably. The cycle operating at a higher temperature to recover waste heat is called top cycle and the cycle operating at a lower temperature to utilize LNG cold energy is called bottom cycle in this study. The top cycle condensation heat is used as the heat source in the bottom cycle. The top cycle can be an ORC, transcritical CO2 (tCO2) cycle or supercritical CO2 (sCO2) cycle, while the bottom cycle only can be an ORC due to the low-temperature range of the bottom cycle. However, the thermodynamic path of the tCO2 cycle and sCO2 cycle are different from that of an ORC. The tCO2 cycle and the sCO2 cycle perform better than an ORC for sensible waste heat recovery due to a better temperature match with the waste heat source. Different combinations of the tCO2 cycle, sCO2 cycle and ORC are compared to screen the best configurations of the cascaded power cycles. The influence of the working fluid and the operating conditions are also investigated in this study. Each configuration is modeled and optimized in Aspen HYSYS. The results show that cascaded tCO2/ORC performs better compared with cascaded ORC/ORC and cascaded sCO2/ORC for the case study.
Abstract: Induction assisted single point incremental forming
(IASPIF) is a flexible method and can be simply utilized to
form a high strength alloys. Due to the interaction between the
mechanical and thermal properties during IASPIF an evaluation for
the process is necessary to be performed analytically. Therefore, a
numerical simulation was carried out in this paper. The numerical
analysis was operated at both room and elevated temperatures
then compared with experimental results. Fully coupled dynamic
temperature displacement explicit analysis was used to simulated the
hot single point incremental forming. The numerical analysis was
indicating that during hot single point incremental forming were a
combination between complicated compression, tension and shear
stresses. As a result, the equivalent plastic strain was increased
excessively by rising both the formed part depth and the heating
temperature during forming. Whereas, the forming forces were
decreased from 5 kN at room temperature to 0.95 kN at elevated
temperature. The simulation shows that the maximum true strain was
occurred in the stretching zone which was the same as in experiment.
Abstract: Replacing of complex solar concentrating unit, this paper designs a solar heat-concentrating medium-temperature steam-generating system. Solar radiation is collected by using a large solar collecting and heat concentrating plate and is converged to the metal evaporating pipe with high efficient heat transfer. In the meantime, the heat loss is reduced by employing a double-glazed cover and other heat insulating structures. Thus, a high temperature is reached in the metal evaporating pipe. The influences of the system's structure parameters on system performance are analyzed. The steam production rate and the steam production under different solar irradiance, solar collecting and heat concentrating plate area, solar collecting and heat concentrating plate temperature and heat loss are obtained. The results show that when solar irradiance is higher than 600 W/m2, the effective heat collecting area is 7.6 m2 and the double-glazing cover is adopted, the system heat loss amount is lower than the solar irradiance value. The stable steam is produced in the metal evaporating pipe at 100 ℃, 110 ℃, and 120 ℃, respectively. When the average solar irradiance is about 896 W/m2, and the steaming cumulative time is about 5 hours, the daily steam production of the system is about 6.174 kg. In a single day, the solar irradiance is larger at noon, thus the steam production rate is large at that time. Before 9:00 and after 16:00, the solar irradiance is smaller, and the steam production rate is almost 0.
Abstract: Selective catalytic reduction systems for nitrogen oxides reduction by ammonia has been the chosen technology by most of diesel vehicle (i.e. bus and truck) manufacturers in Brazil, as also in Europe. Furthermore, at some conditions, over-stoichiometric ammonia availability is also needed that increases the NH3 slips even more. Ammonia (NH3) by this vehicle exhaust aftertreatment system provides a maximum efficiency of NOx removal if a significant amount of NH3 is stored on its catalyst surface. In the other words, the practice shows that slightly less than 100% of the NOx conversion is usually targeted, so that the aqueous urea solution hydrolyzes to NH3 via other species formation, under relatively low temperatures. This paper presents a model based on neural networks integrated with a road vehicle simulator that allows to estimate NH3-slip emission factors for different driving conditions and patterns. The proposed model generates high NH3slips which are not also limited in Brazil, but more efforts needed to be made to elucidate the contribution of vehicle-emitted NH3 to the urban atmosphere.
Abstract: In this paper, we have developed a sliding mode
controller for PUMA 600 manipulator robot, to control the remote
robot a teleoperation system was developed. This system includes
two sites, local and remote. The sliding mode controller is installed
at the remote site. The client asks for a position through an interface
and receives the real positions after running of the task by the remote
robot. Both sites are interconnected via the Internet. In order to verify
the effectiveness of the sliding mode controller, that is compared with
a classic PID controller. The developed approach is tested on a virtual
robot. The results confirmed the high performance of this approach.
Abstract: This paper presents an intelligent tuning method of
microwave filter based on complex neural network and improved
space mapping. The tuning process consists of two stages: the initial
tuning and the fine tuning. At the beginning of the tuning, the return
loss of the filter is transferred to the passband via the error of phase.
During the fine tuning, the phase shift caused by the transmission line
and the higher order mode is removed by the curve fitting. Then, an
Cauchy method based on the admittance parameter (Y-parameter) is
used to extract the coupling matrix. The influence of the resonant
cavity loss is eliminated during the parameter extraction process. By
using processed data pairs (the amount of screw variation and the
variation of the coupling matrix), a tuning model is established by
the complex neural network. In view of the improved space mapping
algorithm, the mapping relationship between the actual model and
the ideal model is established, and the amplitude and direction of the
tuning is constantly updated. Finally, the tuning experiment of the
eight order coaxial cavity filter shows that the proposed method has
a good effect in tuning time and tuning precision.
Abstract: Despite the appropriate characteristics of 177Lu and DOTATOC, to our best knowledge, the therapeutic benefit of 177Lu-DOTATOC complex in breast cancer has not been reported until now. In this study, biodistribution of 177Lu-DOTA-TOC in mouse tumor model for evaluation of possible utilization of this complex in breast cancer treatment was investigated.177Lu was prepared with the specific activity of 2.6-3 GBq.mg-1 and radionuclidic purity higher than 99%. The radiolabeled complex was prepared in the optimized conditions with the radiochemical purity higher than 99%. The final solution was injected to the BALB/c mice with adenocarcinoma breast cancer. The biodistribution results showed major accumulation in the kidneys as the major excretion route and the somatostatin receptor-positive tissues such as pancreas compared with the other tissues. Also, significant uptake was observed in tumor even in longer time after injection. According to the results obtained in this research study, somatostatin receptors expressed in breast cancers can be targeted with DOTATOC analogues especially with 177Lu-DOTATOC as an ideal therapeutic agent.
Abstract: This paper presents a road vehicle detection approach for the intelligent transportation system. This approach mainly uses low-cost magnetic sensor and associated data collection system to collect magnetic signals. This system can measure the magnetic field changing, and it also can detect and count vehicles. We extend Mel Frequency Cepstral Coefficients to analyze vehicle magnetic signals. Vehicle type features are extracted using representation of cepstrum, frame energy, and gap cepstrum of magnetic signals. We design a 2-dimensional map algorithm using Vector Quantization to classify vehicle magnetic features to four typical types of vehicles in Australian suburbs: sedan, VAN, truck, and bus. Experiments results show that our approach achieves a high level of accuracy for vehicle detection and classification.
Abstract: Adolescents’ biased perceptions about their social competence (SC), whether negatively or positively, serve to influence their socioemotional adjustment such as early feelings of social phobia (nowadays referred to as Social Anxiety Disorder-SAD). Despite the importance of biased self-perceptions in adolescents’ psychosocial adjustment, the extent to which discrepancies between self- and others’ evaluations of one’s SC are linked to social phobic symptoms remains unclear in the literature. This study examined the perceptual discrepancy profiles between self- and peers’ as well as between self- and teachers’ evaluations of adolescents’ SC and the interrelations of these profiles with self-reported social phobic symptoms. The participants were 390 3rd graders (15 years old) of Finnish lower secondary school (50.8% boys, 49.2% girls). In contrast with variable-centered approaches that have mainly been used by previous studies when focusing on this subject, this study used latent profile analysis (LPA), a person-centered approach which can provide information regarding risk profiles by capturing the heterogeneity within a population and classifying individuals into groups. LPA revealed the following five classes of discrepancy profiles: i) extremely negatively biased perceptions of SC, ii) negatively biased perceptions of SC, iii) quite realistic perceptions of SC, iv) positively biased perceptions of SC, and v) extremely positively biased perceptions of SC. Adolescents with extremely negatively biased perceptions and negatively biased perceptions of their own SC reported the highest number of social phobic symptoms. Adolescents with quite realistic, positively biased and extremely positively biased perceptions reported the lowest number of socio-phobic symptoms. The results point out the negatively and the extremely negatively biased perceptions as possible contributors to social phobic symptoms. Moreover, the association of quite realistic perceptions with low number of social phobic symptoms indicates its potential protective power against social phobia. Finally, positively and extremely positively biased perceptions of SC are negatively associated with social phobic symptoms in this study. However, the profile of extremely positively biased perceptions might be linked as well with the existence of externalizing problems such as antisocial behavior (e.g. disruptive impulsivity). The current findings highlight the importance of considering discrepancies between self- and others’ perceptions of one’s SC in clinical and research efforts. Interventions designed to prevent or moderate social phobic symptoms need to take into account individual needs rather than aiming for uniform treatment. Implications and future directions are discussed.
