Abstract: In this paper, Zinc Oxide (ZnO) thin films are deposited on glass substrate by sol-gel method. The ZnO thin films with well defined orientation were acquired by spin coating of zinc acetate dehydrate monoethanolamine (MEA), de-ionized water and isopropanol alcohol. These films were pre-heated at 275°C for 10 min and then annealed at 350°C, 450°C and 550°C for 80 min. The effect of annealing temperature and different thickness on structure and surface morphology of the thin films were verified by Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM). It was found that there was a significant effect of annealing temperature on the structural parameters of the films such as roughness exponent, fractal dimension and interface width. Thin films also were characterizied by X-ray Diffractometery (XRD) method. XRD analysis revealed that the annealed ZnO thin films consist of single phase ZnO with wurtzite structure and show the c-axis grain orientation. Increasing annealing temperature increased the crystallite size and the c-axis orientation of the film after 450°C. Also In this study, ZnO thin films in different thickness have been prepared by sol-gel method on the glass substrate at room temperature. The thicknesses of films are 100, 150 and 250 nm. Using fractal analysis, morphological characteristics of surface films thickness in amorphous state were investigated. The results show that with increasing thickness, surface roughness (RMS) and lateral correlation length (ξ) are decreased. Also, the roughness exponent (α) and growth exponent (β) were determined to be 0.74±0.02 and 0.11±0.02, respectively.
Abstract: This paper proposes a novel feature extraction method,
based on Discrete Wavelet Transform (DWT) and K-L Seperability
(KLS), for the classification of Functional Data (FD). This method
combines the decorrelation and reduction property of DWT and the
additive independence property of KLS, which is helpful to extraction
classification features of FD. It is an advanced approach of the
popular wavelet based shrinkage method for functional data reduction
and classification. A theory analysis is given in the paper to prove the
consistent convergence property, and a simulation study is also done
to compare the proposed method with the former shrinkage ones. The
experiment results show that this method has advantages in improving
classification efficiency, precision and robustness.
Abstract: This paper presents the results of an experimental study on the performance of a triboelectric separator of plastic mixtures used for recycling. The separator consists of four cylindrical electrodes. The principle behind the separation technique is based on the difference in the Coulomb force acting on the plastic particles after triboelectric charging. The separation of mixtures of acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS) and polystyrene (PS) using this method was studied. The effects of the triboelectric charging time and applied voltage on the separation efficiency were investigated. The experimental results confirm that it is possible to obtain a high purity and recovery rate for the initial compositions considered in this study.
Abstract: There was a high rate of corrosion in Pyrolysis
Gasoline Hydrogenation (PGH) unit of Arak Petrochemical Company
(ARPC), and it caused some operational problem in this plant. A
commercial chemical had been used as anti-corrosion in the
depentanizer column overhead in order to control the corrosion rate.
Injection of commercial corrosion inhibitor caused some
operational problems such as fouling in some heat exchangers. It was
proposed to replace this commercial material with another more
effective trouble free, and well-known additive by R&D and
operation specialists.
At first, the system was simulated by commercial simulation
software in electrolytic system to specify low pH points inside the
plant. After a very comprehensive study of the situation and technical
investigations ,ammonia / monoethanol amine solution was proposed
as neutralizer or corrosion inhibitor to be injected in a suitable point
of the plant. For this purpose, the depentanizer column and its
accessories system was simulated again in case of this solution
injection.
According to the simulation results, injection of new anticorrosion
substance has no any side effect on C5 cut product and
operating conditions of the column. The corrosion rate will be
cotrolled, if the pH remains at the range of 6.5 to 8 . Aactual plant
test run was also carried out by injection of ammonia / monoethanol
amine solution at the rate of 0.6 Kg/hr and the results of iron content
of water samples and corrosion test coupons confirmed the
simulation results.
Now, ammonia / monoethanol amine solution is injected to a
suitable pint inside the plant and corrosion rate has decreased
significantly.
Abstract: This paper deals with a power-conscious ANDEXOR- Inverter type logic implementation for a complex class of Boolean functions, namely Achilles- heel functions. Different variants of the above function class have been considered viz. positive, negative and pure horn for analysis and simulation purposes. The proposed realization is compared with the decomposed implementation corresponding to an existing standard AND-EXOR logic minimizer; both result in Boolean networks with good testability attribute. It could be noted that an AND-OR-EXOR type logic network does not exist for the positive phase of this unique class of logic function. Experimental results report significant savings in all the power consumption components for designs based on standard cells pertaining to a 130nm UMC CMOS process The simulations have been extended to validate the savings across all three library corners (typical, best and worst case specifications).
Abstract: The paper presents frame and burst acquisition in a satellite communication network based on time division multiple access (TDMA) in which the transmissions may be carried on different transponders. A unique word pattern is used for the acquisition process. The search for the frame is aided by soft-decision of QPSK modulated signals in an additive white Gaussian channel. Results show that when the false alarm rate is low the probability of detection is also low, and the acquisition time is long. Conversely when the false alarm rate is high, the probability of detection is also high and the acquisition time is short. Thus the system operators can trade high false alarm rates for high detection probabilities and shorter acquisition times.
Abstract: In this researcha particle swarm optimization (PSO)
algorithm is proposedfor no-wait flowshopsequence dependent
setuptime scheduling problem with weighted earliness-tardiness
penalties as the criterion (|,
|Σ
"
).The
smallestposition value (SPV) rule is applied to convert the continuous
value of position vector of particles in PSO to job permutations.A
timing algorithm is generated to find the optimal schedule and
calculate the objective function value of a given sequence in PSO
algorithm. Twodifferent neighborhood structures are applied to
improve the solution quality of PSO algorithm. The first one is based
on variable neighborhood search (VNS) and the second one is a
simple one with invariable structure. In order to compare the
performance of two neighborhood structures, random test problems
are generated and solved by both neighborhood
approaches.Computational results show that the VNS algorithmhas
better performance than the other one especially for the large sized
problems.
Abstract: Large-scale systems such as Grids offer
infrastructures for both data distribution and parallel processing. The
use of Grid infrastructures is a more recent issue that is already
impacting the Distributed Database Management System industry. In
DBMS, distributed query processing has emerged as a fundamental
technique for ensuring high performance in distributed databases.
Database placement is particularly important in large-scale systems
because it reduces communication costs and improves resource
usage. In this paper, we propose a dynamic database placement
policy that depends on query patterns and Grid sites capabilities. We
evaluate the performance of the proposed database placement policy
using simulations. The obtained results show that dynamic database
placement can significantly improve the performance of distributed
query processing.
Abstract: As a matter of the fact that online social networks like
Twitter, Facebook and MySpace have experienced an extensive
growth in recent years. Social media offers individuals with a tool for
communicating and interacting with one another. These social
networks enable people to stay in touch with other people and
express themselves. This process makes the users of online social
networks active creators of content rather than being only consumers
of traditional media. That’s why millions of people show strong
desire to learn the methods and tools of digital content production
and necessary communication skills. However, the booming interest
in communication and interaction through online social networks and
high level of eagerness to invent and implement the ways to
participate in content production raise some privacy and security
concerns.
This presentation aims to open the assumed revolutionary,
democratic and liberating nature of the online social media up for
discussion by reviewing some recent political developments in
Turkey. Firstly, the role of Internet and online social networks in
mobilizing collective movements through social interactions and
communications will be questioned. Secondly, some cases from Gezi
and Okmeydanı Protests and also December 17-25 period will be
presented in order to illustrate misinformation and manipulation in
social media and violation of individual privacy through online social
networks in order to damage social unity and stability contradictory
to democratic nature of online social networking.

Abstract: There is need to explore emerging technologies based on carbon nanotube electronics as the MOS technology is approaching its limits. As MOS devices scale to the nano ranges, increased short channel effects and process variations considerably effect device and circuit designs. As a promising new transistor, the Carbon Nanotube Field Effect Transistor(CNTFET) avoids most of the fundamental limitations of the Traditional MOSFET devices. In this paper we present the analysis and comparision of a Carbon Nanotube FET(CNTFET) based 10(A current mirror with MOSFET for 32nm technology node. The comparision shows the superiority of the former in terms of 97% increase in output resistance,24% decrease in power dissipation and 40% decrease in minimum voltage required for constant saturation current. Furthermore the effect on performance of current mirror due to change in chirality vector of CNT has also been investigated. The circuit simulations are carried out using HSPICE model.
Abstract: The expression of LFA-1 diverges from the
physiological condition, thus active targeting carrier can provide the
benefits from difference into LFA-1 expression in various conditions.
Here, the selectivity of cIBR-conjugated nanoparticles (cIBR-NPs),
in terms of uptake, was investigated using PBMCs, Mixed PBMCMolt-
3 cells and Molt-3 cells. The expressions of LFA-1 on Molt-3
cells, from flow cytometry and Western blot, possessed the highest
level whereas PBMCs showed the lowest level. The kinetic uptake
profiles of cIBR-NPs were obtained by flow cytometry, which the
degree of cellular uptake presented a similar trend with the level of
LFA-1 indicating the influence of LFA-1 expression on the cellular
uptake of cIBR-NPs. The conformation of LFA-1 had a slight effect
on the cellular uptake of cIBR-NPs. Overall we demonstrated that
cIBR-NPs enhanced cellular uptake and improved the selectivity of
drug carriers to LFA-1 on the leukemia cells, which related with the
order of LFA-1 expression.

Abstract: The aim of this work is to study the elastic transfer
phenomenon which takes place in the elastic scattering of 16O on 12C
at energies near the Coulomb barrier. Where, the angular distribution
decrease steadily with increasing the scattering angle, then the cross
section will increase at backward angles due to the α-transfer process.
This reaction was also studied at different energies for tracking the
nuclear rainbow phenomenon. The experimental data of the angular
distribution at these energies were compared to the calculation
predictions. The optical potential codes such as SPIVAL and
Distorted Wave Born Approximation (DWUCK5) were used in
analysis.
Abstract: Utilization of bagasse ash for silica sources is one of
the most common application for agricultural wastes and valuable
biomass byproducts in sugar milling. The high percentage silica
content from bagasse ash was used as silica source for sodium
silicate solution. Different heating temperature, time and acid
treatment were studies for silica extraction. The silica was
characterized using various techniques including X-ray fluorescence,
X-ray diffraction, Scanning electron microscopy, and Fourier
Transform Infrared Spectroscopy method,. The synthesis conditions
were optimized to obtain the bagasse ash with the maximum silica
content. The silica content of 91.57 percent was achieved from
heating of bagasse ash at 600°C for 3 hours under oxygen feeding
and HCl treatment. The result can be used as value added for bagasse
ash utilization and minimize the environmental impact of disposal
problems.
Abstract: Titanium alloys like the modern alloy Ti 6Al 2Sn 4Zr 6Mo (Ti-6246) combine excellent specific mechanical properties and corrosion resistance. On the other hand, due to their material characteristics, machining of these alloys is difficult to perform. The aim of the current study is the analyses of wear mechanisms of coated cemented carbide tools applied in orthogonal cutting experiments of Ti-6246 alloy. Round bars were machined with standard coated tools in dry conditions on a CNC latheusing a wide range of cutting speeds and cutting depths. Tool wear mechanisms were afterwards investigated by means of stereo microscopy, optical microscopy, confocal microscopy and scanning electron microscopy. Wear mechanisms included fracture of the tool tip (total failure) and abrasion. Specific wear features like crater wear, micro cracks and built-up edgeformation appeared depending of the mechanical and thermal conditions generated in the workpiece surface by the cutting action.
Abstract: Biological evolution has generated a rich variety of
successful solutions; from nature, optimized strategies can be
inspired. One interesting example is the ant colonies, which are able
to exhibit a collective intelligence, still that their dynamic is simple.
The emergence of different patterns depends on the pheromone trail,
leaved by the foragers. It serves as positive feedback mechanism for
sharing information.
In this paper, we use the dynamic of TASEP as a model of
interaction at a low level of the collective environment in the ant-s
traffic flow. This work consists of modifying the movement rules of
particles “ants" belonging to the TASEP model, so that it adopts with
the natural movement of ants. Therefore, as to respect the constraints
of having no more than one particle per a given site, and in order to
avoid collision within a bidirectional circulation, we suggested two
strategies: decease strategy and waiting strategy. As a third work
stage, this is devoted to the study of these two proposed strategies-
stability. As a final work stage, we applied the first strategy to the
whole environment, in order to get to the emergence of traffic flow,
which is a way of learning.
Abstract: Pentachlorophenol (PCP) is a polychlorinated
aromatic compound that is widespread in industrial effluents and is
considered to be a serious pollutant. Among the variety of industrial
effluents encountered, effluents from tanning industry are very
important and have a serious pollution potential. PCP is also formed
unintentionally in effluents of paper and pulp industries. It is highly
persistent in soils and is lethal to a wide variety of beneficial
microorganisms and insects, human beings and animals. The natural
processes that breakdown toxic chemicals in the environment have
become the focus of much attention to develop safe and environmentfriendly
deactivation technologies. Microbes and plants are among
the most important biological agents that remove and degrade waste
materials to enable their recycling in the environment. The present
investigation was carried out with the aim of developing a microbial
system for bioremediation of PCP polluted soils. A number of plant
species were evaluated for their ability to tolerate different
concentrations of pentachlorophenol (PCP) in the soil. The
experiment was conducted for 30 days under pot culture conditions.
The toxic effect of PCP on plants was studied by monitoring seed
germination, plant growth and biomass. As the concentration of PCP
was increased to 50 ppm, the inhibition of seed germination, plant
growth and biomass was also increased. Although PCP had a
negative effect on all plant species tested, maize and groundnut
showed the maximum tolerance to PCP. Other tolerating crops
included wheat, safflower, sunflower, and soybean. From the
rhizosphere soil of the tolerant seedlings, as many as twenty seven
PCP tolerant bacteria were isolated. From soybean, 8; sunflower, 3;
safflower 8; maize 2; groundnut and wheat, 3 each isolates were
made. They were screened for their PCP degradation potentials.
HPLC analyses of PCP degradation revealed that the isolate MAZ-2
degraded PCP completely. The isolate MAZ-1 was the next best
isolate with 90 per cent PCP degradation. These strains hold promise
to be used in the bioremediation of PCP polluted soils.
Abstract: In a wind power generator using doubly fed induction
generator (DFIG), the three-phase pulse width modulation (PWM)
voltage source converter (VSC) is used as grid side converter (GSC)
and rotor side converter (RSC). The standard linear control laws
proposed for GSC provides not only instablity against comparatively
large-signal disturbances, but also the problem of stability due to
uncertainty of load and variations in parameters. In this paper, a
nonlinear controller is designed for grid side converter (GSC) of a
DFIG for wind power application. The nonlinear controller is
designed based on the input-output feedback linearization control
method. The resulting closed-loop system ensures a sufficient
stability region, make robust to variations in circuit parameters and
also exhibits good transient response. Computer simulations and
experimental results are presented to confirm the effectiveness of the
proposed control strategy.
Abstract: In this paper, a parametric experimental study for producing paving blocks using fine and coarse waste glass is presented. Some of the physical and mechanical properties of paving blocks having various levels of fine glass (FG) and coarse glass (CG) replacements with fine aggregate (FA) are investigated. The test results show that the replacement of FG by FA at level of 20% by weight has a significant effect on the compressive strength, flexural strength, splitting tensile strength and abrasion resistance of the paving blocks as compared with the control sample because of puzzolanic nature of FG. The compressive strength, flexural strength, splitting tensile strength and abrasion resistance of the paving block samples in the FG replacement level of 20% are 69%, 90%, 47% and 15 % higher as compared with the control sample respectively. It is reported in the earlier works the replacement of FG by FA at level of 20% by weight suppress the alkali-silica reaction (ASR) in the concrete. The test results show that the FG at level of 20% has a potential to be used in the production of paving blocks. The beneficial effect on these properties of CG replacement with FA is little as compared with FG.
