Abstract: This study investigated the removal efficiency of electrokinetic remediation of copper-contaminated soil at different combinations of enhancement reagents used as anolyte and catholyte. Sodium hydroxide (at 0.1, 0.5, and 1.0 M concentrations) and distilled water were used as anolyte, while lactic acid (at 0.01, 0.1, and 0.5 M concentrations), ammonium citrate (also at 0.01, 0.1, and 0.5 M concentrations) and distilled water were used as catholyte. A continuous voltage application (1.0 VDC/cm) was employed for 240 hours for each experiment. The copper content of the catholyte was determined at the end of the 240-hour period. Optimization was carried out with a Response Surface Methodology - Optimal Design, including F test, and multiple comparison method, to determine which pair of anolyte-catholyte was the most significant for the removal efficiency. "1.0 M NaOH" was found to be the most significant anolyte while it was established that lactic acid was the most significant type of catholyte to be used for the most successful electrokinetic experiments. Concentrations of lactic acid should be at the range of 0.1 M to 0.5 M to achieve maximum percent removal values.
Abstract: Design of an observer based controller for a class of
fractional order systems has been done. Fractional order mathematics
is used to express the system and the proposed observer. Fractional
order Lyapunov theorem is used to derive the closed-loop asymptotic
stability. The gains of the observer and observer based controller are
derived systematically using the linear matrix inequality approach.
Finally, the simulation results demonstrate validity and effectiveness
of the proposed observer based controller.
Abstract: In the process of polyethylene extrusion polymer
material similar to powder or granule is under compression, melting
and transmission operation and on base of special form, extrudate has
been produced. Twin-screw extruders are applicable in industries
because of their high capacity. The powder mixing with chemical
additives and melting with thermal and mechanical energy in three
zones (feed, compression and metering zone) and because of gear
pump and screw's pressure, converting to final product in latest plate.
Extruders with twin-screw and short distance between screws are
better than other types because of their high capacity and good
thermal and mechanical stress.
In this paper, process of polyethylene extrusion and various tapes
of extruders are studied. It is necessary to have an exact control on
process to producing high quality products with safe operation and
optimum energy consumption.

Abstract: The Minimum Weighted Vertex Cover (MWVC) problem is a classic graph optimization NP - complete problem. Given an undirected graph G = (V, E) and weighting function defined on the vertex set, the minimum weighted vertex cover problem is to find a vertex set S V whose total weight is minimum subject to every edge of G has at least one end point in S. In this paper an effective algorithm, called Support Ratio Algorithm (SRA), is designed to find the minimum weighted vertex cover of a graph. Computational experiments are designed and conducted to study the performance of our proposed algorithm. Extensive simulation results show that the SRA can yield better solutions than other existing algorithms found in the literature for solving the minimum vertex cover problem.
Abstract: In this paper, by introducing twice continuously differentiable mappings, we develop an interior path following following method, which enables us to give a constructive proof of the general Brouwer fixed point theorem and thus to solve fixed point problems in a class of non-convex sets. Under suitable conditions, a smooth path can be proven to exist. This can lead to an implementable globally convergent algorithm. Several numerical examples are given to illustrate the results of this paper.
Abstract: Partial coherence between two signals removing the contribution of a periodic, deterministic signal is proposed for evaluating the interrelationship in multivariate systems. The estimator expression was derived and shown to be independent of such periodic signal. Simulations were used for obtaining its critical value, which were found to be the same as those for Gaussian signals, as well as for evaluating the technique. An Illustration with eletroencephalografic (EEG) signals during photic stimulation is also provided. The application of the proposed technique in both simulation and real EEG data indicate that it seems to be very specific in removing the contribution of periodic sources. The estimate independence of the periodic signal may widen partial coherence application to signal analysis, since it could be used together with simple coherence to test for contamination in signals by a common, periodic noise source.
Abstract: This paper describes the design and modeling
procedure of a novel 5-phase segment type switched reluctance motor
(ST-SRM) under simultaneous two-phase (bipolar) excitation of
windings. The rotor cores of ST-SRM are embedded in an aluminum
block as well as to improve the performance characteristics. The
magnetic circuit of the produced ST-SRM is constructed so that the
magnetic flux paths are short and exclusive to each phase, thereby
minimizing the commutation switching and eddy current losses in the
laminations. The design and simulation principles presented apply
primarily to conventional SRM and ST-SRM. It is proved that the
novel 5-phase switched reluctance motor under two-phase excitation
is superior among the criteria used in comparison. The purposed
model is particularly well suited for high torque and weight
constrained applications such as automobiles, aerospace and military
applications.

Abstract: This paper draws a methodological framework adopted within an internal Telecomitalia project aimed to identify, on a user centred base, the potential interest towards a technological scenario aimed to extend on a personal bubble the typical communication and media fruition home environment. The problem is that involving user in the early stage of the development of such disruptive technology scenario asking users opinions on something that users actually do not manage even in a rough manner could lead to wrong or distorted results. For that reason we chose an approach that indirectly aim to understand users hidden needs in order to obtain a meaningful picture of the possible interest for a technological proposition non yet easily understandable.
Abstract: This paper emphasizes on the application of genetic algorithm (GA) to optimize the parameters of the TMD for achieving the best results in the reduction of the building response under earthquake excitations. The Integral of the Time multiplied Absolute value of the Error (ITAE) based on relative displacement of all floors in the building is taken as a performance index of the optimization criterion. The problem of robustly TMD controller design is formatted as an optimization problem based on the ITAE performance index to be solved using GA that has a story ability to find the most optimistic results. An 11–story realistic building, located in the city of Rasht, Iran is considered as a test system to demonstrate effectiveness of the proposed GA based TMD (GATMD) controller without specifying which mode should be controlled. The results of the proposed GATMD controller are compared with the uncontrolled structure through timedomain simulation and some performance indices. The results analysis reveals that the designed GA based TMD controller has an excellent capability in reduction of the seismically excited example building and the ITAE performance, that is so for remains as unknown, can be introduced a new criteria - method for structural dynamic design.
Abstract: We present a theory for optimal filtering of infinite sets of random signals. There are several new distinctive features of the proposed approach. First, we provide a single optimal filter for processing any signal from a given infinite signal set. Second, the filter is presented in the special form of a sum with p terms where each term is represented as a combination of three operations. Each operation is a special stage of the filtering aimed at facilitating the associated numerical work. Third, an iterative scheme is implemented into the filter structure to provide an improvement in the filter performance at each step of the scheme. The final step of the concerns signal compression and decompression. This step is based on the solution of a new rank-constrained matrix approximation problem. The solution to the matrix problem is described in this paper. A rigorous error analysis is given for the new filter.
Abstract: The purpose of this paper is to discuss the influence of
resistance characteristic on the high conductive concrete considering
the various voltage and environment. The four-electrode method is
applied to the tailor-made high conductive concrete with appropriate
proportion. The curve of resistivity with the changes of voltage and
environment is plotted and the changes of resistivity are explored. The
result based on the methods reveals that resistivity is less affected by
the temperature factor, and the four-electrode method would be an
applicable measurement method on a site inspection.

Abstract: The objective of this study is to determine the thermal comfort among worker at Malaysian automotive industry. One critical manual assembly workstation had been chosen as a subject for the study. The human subjects for the study constitute operators at Body Assembly Station of the factory. The environment examined was the Relative Humidity (%), Airflow (m/s), Air Temperature (°C) and Radiant Temperature (°C) of the surrounding workstation area. The environmental factors were measured using Babuc apparatus, which is capable to measure simultaneously those mentioned environmental factors. The time series data of fluctuating level of factors were plotted to identify the significant changes of factors. Then thermal comfort of the workers were assessed by using ISO Standard 7730 Thermal sensation scale by using Predicted Mean Vote (PMV). Further Predicted percentage dissatisfied (PPD) is used to estimate the thermal comfort satisfaction of the occupant. Finally the PPD versus PMV were plotted to present the thermal comfort scenario of workers involved in related workstation. The result of PMV at the related industry is between 1.8 and 2.3, where PPD at that building is between 60% to 84%. The survey result indicated that the temperature more influenced comfort to the occupants
Abstract: We present new finite element methods for Helmholtz and Maxwell equations on general three-dimensional polyhedral meshes, based on domain decomposition with boundary elements on the surfaces of the polyhedral volume elements. The methods use the lowest-order polynomial spaces and produce sparse, symmetric linear systems despite the use of boundary elements. Moreover, piecewise constant coefficients are admissible. The resulting approximation on the element surfaces can be extended throughout the domain via representation formulas. Numerical experiments confirm that the convergence behavior on tetrahedral meshes is comparable to that of standard finite element methods, and equally good performance is attained on more general meshes.

0.3~18.4 μg/kg. Forty seven samples collected from Seoul (Korea) for
mycotoxin contamination monitoring. The results showed that the
occurrence of zearalenone and deoxynivalenol were frequent.
Zearalenone was detected in all samples and deoxynivalenol was
detected in 80.9 % samples in the range 0.626 ~ 29.264 μg/kg and N.D
~ 48.332 μg/kg respectively. Fumonisins and ochratoxin A were
detected in 46.8% samples and 17 % samples respectively, aflatoxins
and T-2/HT-2 toxins were not detected all samples.
Abstract: In order to provide accurate heart rate variability
indices of sympathetic and parasympathetic activity, the low
frequency and high frequency components of an RR heart rate signal
must be adequately separated. This is not always possible by just
applying spectral analysis, as power from the high and low frequency
components often leak into their adjacent bands. Furthermore,
without the respiratory spectra it is not obvious that the low
frequency component is not another respiratory component, which
can appear in the lower band. This paper describes an adaptive filter,
which aids the separation of the low frequency sympathetic and high
frequency parasympathetic components from an ECG R-R interval
signal, enabling the attainment of more accurate heart rate variability
measures. The algorithm is applied to simulated signals and heart rate
and respiratory signals acquired from an ambulatory monitor
incorporating single lead ECG and inductive plethysmography
sensors embedded in a garment. The results show an improvement
over standard heart rate variability spectral measurements.
