Abstract: In this paper, a new dependable algorithm based on an adaptation of the standard variational iteration method (VIM) is used for analyzing the transition from steady convection to chaos for lowto-intermediate Rayleigh numbers convection in porous media. The solution trajectories show the transition from steady convection to chaos that occurs at a slightly subcritical value of Rayleigh number, the critical value being associated with the loss of linear stability of the steady convection solution. The VIM is treated as an algorithm in a sequence of intervals for finding accurate approximate solutions to the considered model and other dynamical systems. We shall call this technique as the piecewise VIM. Numerical comparisons between the piecewise VIM and the classical fourth-order Runge–Kutta (RK4) numerical solutions reveal that the proposed technique is a promising tool for the nonlinear chaotic and nonchaotic systems.
Abstract: Dual bell nozzle is a promising one among the altitude
adaptation nozzle concepts, which offer increased nozzle
performance in rocket engines. Its advantage is the simplicity it offers
due to the absence of any additional mechanical device or movable
parts. Hence it offers reliability along with improved nozzle
performance as demanded by future launch vehicles. Among other
issues, the flow transition to the extension nozzle of a dual bell
nozzle is one of the major issues being studied in the development of
dual bell nozzle. A parameter named over-expansion factor, which
controls the value of the wall inflection angle, has been reported to
have substantial influence in this transition process. This paper
studies, through CFD and cold flow experiments, the effect of overexpansion
factor on flow transition in dual bell nozzles.
Abstract: The alterations in pancreas gland secretion hormones
following an aerobic and exhausting exercise was the purpose of this
study. Sixteen healthy men participated in the study. The blood
samples of these participants were taken in four stages under fasting
condition. The first sample was taken before Bruce exhausting and
aerobic test, the second sample was taken after Bruce exercise and
the third and forth stages samples were taken 24 and 48 hours after
the exercises respectively. The final results indicated that a strenuous
aerobic exercise can have a significant effect on glucagon and insulin
concentration of blood serum. The increase in blood serum insulin
was higher after 24 and 48 hours. It seems that an intensive exercise
has little effect on changes in glucagon concentration of blood serum.
Also, disorder in secretion in glucagon and insulin concentration of
serum disturbs athletes- exercise.
Abstract: From environmental aspect purification of ammonia
containing wastewater is expected. High efficiency ammonia
desorption can be done from the water by air on proper temperature.
After the desorption process, ammonia can be recovered and used in
another technology. The calculation method described below give
some methods to find either the minimum column height or ammonia
rich solution of the effluent.
Abstract: Multi criteria decision analysis (MDCA) covers both
data and experience. It is very common to solve the problems with
many parameters and uncertainties. GIS supported solutions improve
and speed up the decision process. Weighted grading as a MDCA
method is employed for solving the geotechnical problems. In this
study, geotechnical parameters namely soil type; SPT (N) blow
number, shear wave velocity (Vs) and depth of underground water
level (DUWL) have been engaged in MDCA and GIS. In terms of
geotechnical aspects, the settlement suitability of the municipal area
was analyzed by the method. MDCA results were compatible with
the geotechnical observations and experience. The method can be
employed in geotechnical oriented microzoning studies if the criteria
are well evaluated.
Abstract: Robust nonlinear integrated navigation of GPS and
low cost MEMS is a hot topic of research these days. A robust filter
is required to cope up with the problem of unpredictable
discontinuities and colored noises associated with low cost sensors.
H∞ filter is previously used in Extended Kalman filter and Unscented
Kalman filter frame. Unscented Kalman filter has a problem of
Cholesky matrix factorization at each step which is a very unstable
operation. To avoid this problem in this research H∞ filter is
designed in Square root Unscented filter framework and found 50%
more robust towards increased level of colored noises.
Abstract: In this paper, the implementation of low power,
high throughput convolutional filters for the one dimensional
Discrete Wavelet Transform and its inverse are presented. The
analysis filters have already been used for the implementation of a
high performance DWT encoder [15] with minimum memory
requirements for the JPEG 2000 standard. This paper presents the
design techniques and the implementation of the convolutional filters
included in the JPEG2000 standard for the forward and inverse DWT
for achieving low-power operation, high performance and reduced
memory accesses. Moreover, they have the ability of performing
progressive computations so as to minimize the buffering between
the decomposition and reconstruction phases. The experimental
results illustrate the filters- low power high throughput characteristics
as well as their memory efficient operation.
Abstract: Our results showed that treatment with both
cyclooxygenase (COX1 or COX2) inhibitors impair reproduction
parameters of the medaka. Resveratrol (COX1 inhibitor) caused an
decrease in the number of spawning females at the first week of
feeding fish with experimental diets. In the group treated with NS-
398 (COX2 inhibitor) we found the lowest sperm velocity parameters
and decreased linearity of movement. The ovaries of the medaka fed
feed supplemented with Resveratrol or NS-398 were confirmed to
have a lower share of matured oocytes however during the
experiment (four weeks) the number of eggs spawned by females was
similar. Both inhibitors in fish diet (20 mg/kg body weight/day)
caused a decrease in the embryo survival. Our results revealed that
for the medaka female reproduction, activity of both COX enzymes
might be necessary whereas males reproduction competence, as
expressed by sperm motility parameters, might be related to COX2
activity.
Abstract: An experimental investigation was performed on pulp
liquid flow in straight ducts with a square cross section. Fully
developed steady flow was visualized and the fiber concentration was
obtained using a light-section method developed by the author et al.
The obtained results reveal quantitatively, in a definite form, the
distribution of the fiber concentration. From the results and
measurements of pressure loss, it is found that the flow characteristics
of pulp liquid in ducts can be classified into five patterns. The
relationships among the distributions of mean and fluctuation of fiber
concentration, the pressure loss and the flow velocity are discussed,
and then the features for each pattern are extracted. The degree of
nonuniformity of the fiber concentration, which is indicated by the
standard deviation of its distribution, is decreased from 0.3 to 0.05
with an increase in the velocity of the tested pulp liquid from 0.4 to
0.8%.
Abstract: The following paper shows an interactive tool which
main purpose is to teach how to play a flute. It consists of three
stages the first one is the instruction and teaching process through a
software application, the second is the practice part when the user
starts to play the flute (hardware specially designed for this
application) this flute is capable of capturing how is being played the
flute and the final stage is the one in which the data captured are sent
to the software and the user is evaluated in order to give him / she a
correction or an acceptance
Abstract: In this paper, we have applied the homotopy perturbation
method (HPM) for obtaining the analytical solution of unsteady
flow of gas through a porous medium and we have also compared the
findings of this research with some other analytical results. Results
showed a very good agreement between results of HPM and the
numerical solutions of the problem rather than other analytical solutions
which have previously been applied. The results of homotopy
perturbation method are of high accuracy and the method is very
effective and succinct.
Abstract: Recently, the health of retired National Football
League players, particularly lineman has been investigated. A number of studies have reported increased cardiometabolic risk, premature ardiovascular disease and incidence of type 2 diabetes. Rugby union players have somatotypes very similar
to National Football league players which suggest that rugby players may have similar health risks. The International Golden Oldies World Rugby Festival (GORF) provided a
unique opportunity to investigate the demographics of veteran rugby players. METHODOLOGIES: A cross-sectional, observational study was completed using an online web-based
questionnaire that consisted of medical history and
physiological measures. Data analysis was completed using a one sample t-test (50yrs) and Chi-square test. RESULTS: A total of 216 veteran rugby competitors
(response rate = 6.8%) representing 10 countries, aged 35-72 yrs (mean 51.2, S.D. ±8.0), participated in the online survey. As a group, the incidence of current smokers was low at 8.8%
(avg 72.4 cigs/wk) whilst the percentage consuming alcohol
was high (93.1% (avg 11.2 drinks/wk). Competitors reported
the following top six chronic diseases/disorders; hypertension
(18.6%), arthritis (OA/RA, 11.5%), asthma (9.3%),
hyperlipidemia (8.2%), diabetes (all types, 7.5%) and gout (6%), there were significant differences between groups with
regard to cancer (all types) and migraines. When compared to
the Australian general population (Australian Bureau of Statistics data, n=18,000), GORF competitors had a

Abstract: In this paper, with the purpose of further reducing the
complexity of the system, while keeping its temporal and spatial
focusing performance, we investigate the possibility of using optimal
one bit time reversal (TR) system for impulse radio ultra wideband
multi-user wireless communications. The results show that, by optimally
selecting the number of used taps in the pre-filter the optimal
one bit TR system can outperform the full one bit TR system. In
some cases, the temporal and spatial focusing performance of the
optimal one bit TR system appears to be compatible with that of the
original TR system. This is a significant result as the overhead cost
is much lower than it is required in the original TR system.
Abstract: This paper describes the design and development of pico-hydro generation system using consuming water distributed to houses. Water flow in the domestic pipes has kinetic energy that potential to generate electricity for energy storage purposes in addition to the routine activities such as laundry, cook and bathe. The inherent water pressure and flow inside the pipe from utility-s main tank that used for those usual activities is also used to rotate small scale hydro turbine to drive a generator for electrical power generation. Hence, this project is conducted to develop a small scale hydro generation system using consuming water distributed to houses as an alternative electrical energy source for residential use.
Abstract: Cavitation, usually known as a destructive
phenomenon, involves turbulent unsteady two-phase flow. Having
such features, cavitating flows have been turned to a challenging
topic in numerical studies and many researches are being done for
better understanding of bubbly flows and proposing solutions to
reduce its consequent destructive effects. Aeration may be regarded
as an effective protection against cavitation erosion in many
hydraulic structures, like gated tunnels. The paper concerns
numerical simulation of flow in discharge gated tunnel of a dam
using ing RNG k -ε model coupled with the volume of fluid (VOF)
method and the zone which is susceptible of cavitation inception in
the tunnel is predicted. In the second step, a vent is considered in the
mentioned zone for aeration and the numerical simulation is done
again to study the effects of aeration. The results show that aeration
is an impressively useful method to exclude cavitation in mentioned
tunnels.
Abstract: The purpose of this study attempts to emphasize the factors relating to intra-family relationships (order point of view) on violence against the women, For this purpose a survey technique on the sample size amounted 100 women of married of city of Ilam in country of Iran were considered. For measurement of violence against the women , the CTS scaled has been used .violence against the women be measured in four dimension ( emotional violence, psycho violence, physical violence, neglect violence). highest violence was related to emotional violence and after are as follow respectively : physical violence and neglect violence. The results showed that women have experienced the violence more than once during the last year, degree of order in family is high. Explanation result indicated that the order variables in family including collective thinking, empathy and communal co-circumstance have significant effects on violence against the women. Via multiple regression analysis variables of empathy, religious tenet and education of husband had significant effect on violence against women. In other words relationships among family effect on violence in family.
Abstract: This paper proposes an alternative control mechanism
for an interactive Pan/Tilt/Zoom (PTZ) camera control system.
Instead of using a mouse or a joystick, the proposed mechanism
utilizes a Nintendo Wii remote and infrared (IR) sensor bar. The Wii
remote has buttons that allows the user to control the movement of a
PTZ camera through Bluetooth connectivity. In addition, the Wii
remote has a built-in motion sensor that allows the user to give
control signals to the PTZ camera through pitch and roll movement.
A stationary IR sensor bar, placed at some distance away opposite the
Wii remote, enables the detection of yaw movement. In addition, the
Wii remote-s built-in IR camera has the ability to detect its spatial
position, and thus generates a control signal when the user moves the
Wii remote. Some experiments are carried out and their performances
are compared with an industry-standard PTZ joystick.
Abstract: In the Lost Foam Casting process, melting point
temperature of metal, as well as volume and rate of the foam
degradation have significant effect on the mold filling pattern.
Therefore, gas generation capacity and gas gap length are two
important parameters for modeling of mold filling time of the lost
foam casting processes. In this paper, the gas gap length at the liquidfoam
interface for a low melting point (aluminum) alloy and a high
melting point (Carbon-steel) alloy are investigated by the
photography technique. Results of the photography technique
indicated, that the gas gap length and the mold filling time are
increased with increased coating thickness and density of the foam.
The Gas gap lengths measured in aluminum and Carbon-steel,
depend on the foam density, and were approximately 4-5 and 25-60
mm, respectively. By using a new system, the gas generation
capacity for the aluminum and steel was measured. The gas
generation capacity measurements indicated that gas generation in
the Aluminum and Carbon-steel lost foam casting was about 50 CC/g
and 3200 CC/g polystyrene, respectively.
Abstract: This paper is an extension of a previous work where a diagonally implicit harmonic balance method was developed and applied to simulate oscillatory motions of pitching airfoil and wing. A more detailed study on the accuracy, convergence, and the efficiency of the method is carried out in the current paperby varying the number of harmonics in the solution approximation. As the main advantage of the method is itsusage for the design optimization of the unsteady problems, its application to more practical case of rotor flow analysis during forward flight is carried out and compared with flight test data and time-accurate computation results.
Abstract: Clustering algorithms are attractive for the task of class identification in spatial databases. However, the application to large spatial databases rises the following requirements for clustering algorithms: minimal requirements of domain knowledge to determine the input parameters, discovery of clusters with arbitrary shape and good efficiency on large databases. The well-known clustering algorithms offer no solution to the combination of these requirements. In this paper, a density based clustering algorithm (DCBRD) is presented, relying on a knowledge acquired from the data by dividing the data space into overlapped regions. The proposed algorithm discovers arbitrary shaped clusters, requires no input parameters and uses the same definitions of DBSCAN algorithm. We performed an experimental evaluation of the effectiveness and efficiency of it, and compared this results with that of DBSCAN. The results of our experiments demonstrate that the proposed algorithm is significantly efficient in discovering clusters of arbitrary shape and size.
