Abstract: In the process of polyethylene extrusion polymer
material similar to powder or granule is under compression, melting
and transmission operation and on base of special form, extrudate has
been produced. Twin-screw extruders are applicable in industries
because of their high capacity. The powder mixing with chemical
additives and melting with thermal and mechanical energy in three
zones (feed, compression and metering zone) and because of gear
pump and screw's pressure, converting to final product in latest plate.
Extruders with twin-screw and short distance between screws are
better than other types because of their high capacity and good
thermal and mechanical stress.
In this paper, process of polyethylene extrusion and various tapes
of extruders are studied. It is necessary to have an exact control on
process to producing high quality products with safe operation and
optimum energy consumption.
The granule size is depending on granulator motor speed. Results
show at constant feed rate a decrease in granule size was found whit
Increase in motor speed. Relationships between HDPE feed rate and
speed of granulator motor, main motor and gear pump are calculated

Abstract: In today-s modern world, the number of vehicles is
increasing on the road. This causes more people to choose walking
instead of traveling using vehicles. Thus, proper planning of
pedestrians- paths is important to ensure the safety of pedestrians in a
walking area. Crowd dynamics study the pedestrians- behavior and
modeling pedestrians- movement to ensure safety in their walking paths.
To date, many models have been designed to ease pedestrians-
movement. The Social Force Model is widely used among researchers
as it is simpler and provides better simulation results. We will discuss
the problem regarding the ritual of circumambulating the Ka-aba
(Tawaf) where the entrances to this area are usually congested which
worsens during the Hajj season. We will use the computer simulation
model SimWalk which is based on the Social Force Model to simulate
the movement of pilgrims in the Tawaf area. We will first discuss the
effect of uni and bi-directional flows at the gates. We will then restrict
certain gates to the area as the entrances only and others as exits only.
From the simulations, we will study the effect of the distance of other
entrances from the beginning line and their effects on the duration of
pilgrims circumambulate Ka-aba. We will distribute the pilgrims at the
different entrances evenly so that the congestion at the entrances can be
reduced. We would also discuss the various locations and designs of
barriers at the exits and its effect on the time taken for the pilgrims to
exit the Tawaf area.
Abstract: As the use of registration packages spreads, the number of the aligned image pairs in image databases (either by manual or automatic methods) increases dramatically. These image pairs can serve as a set of training data. Correspondingly, the images that are to be registered serve as testing data. In this paper, a novel medical image registration method is proposed which is based on the a priori knowledge of the expected joint intensity distribution estimated from pre-aligned training images. The goal of the registration is to find the optimal transformation such that the distance between the observed joint intensity distribution obtained from the testing image pair and the expected joint intensity distribution obtained from the corresponding training image pair is minimized. The distance is measured using the divergence measure based on Tsallis entropy. Experimental results show that, compared with the widely-used Shannon mutual information as well as Tsallis mutual information, the proposed method is computationally more efficient without sacrificing registration accuracy.
Abstract: To investigate the applicability of the EDR-2 film for
clinical radiation dosimetry, percentage depth-doses, profiles and
distributions in open and dynamically wedged fields were measured
using film and compared with data from a Treatment Planning
system.The validity of the EDR2 film to measure dose in a plane
parallel to the beam was tested by irradiating 10 cm×10 cm and 4
cm×4 cm fields from a Siemens, primus linac with a 6MV beam and
a source-to-surface distance of 100 cm. The film was placed
Horizontally between solid water phantom blocks and marked
with pin holes at a depth of 10 cm from the incident beam surface.
The film measurement results, in absolute dose, were compared with
ion chamber measurements using a Welhoffer scanning water tank
system and Treatment Planning system. Our results indicate a
maximum underestimate of calculated dose of 8 % with Treatment
Planning system.
Abstract: Tourism researchers have recently focused on repeat visitation as a part of destination loyalty. Different models have also considered satisfaction as the main determinant of revisit intention, while findings in many studies show it as a continuous issue. This conceptual paper attempts at evaluating recent empirical studies on satisfaction and revisit intention. Based on limitations and gaps in recent studies, the current paper suggests a new model that would be more comprehensive than those in previous studies. The new model offers new relationships between antecedents (destination image, perceived value, specific novelty seeking, and distance to destination) and both of satisfaction and revisit intention. Revisit intention in turn is suggested to be measured in a temporal approach.
Abstract: One of the aims of the paper is to make a comparison
of experimental results with numerical simulation for a side cooler.
Specifically, it was the amount of air to be delivered by the side
cooler with fans running at 100%. This integral value was measured
and evaluated within the plane parallel to the front side of the side
cooler at a distance of 20mm from the front side. The flow field
extending from the side cooler to the space was also evaluated.
Another objective was to address the contribution of evaluated values
to the increase of data center energy consumption.
Abstract: Recent changes in food retailing structure have led to the development of large supercenters in suburban areas of the United States. These changes have led some authors to suggest that there are food deserts in some urban areas, where food is difficult to access, especially for disadvantaged consumers. This study tests the food desert hypothesis by comparing the distance from food retailers to food secure and food insecure households in one urban, Midwest neighborhood. This study utilizes GIS to compare household survey respondent locations against the location of various types of area food retailers. Results of this study indicate no apparent difference between food secure and insecure households in the reported importance of distance on the decision to shop at various retailers. However, there were differences in the spatial relationship between households and retailers. Food insecure households tended to be located slightly farther from large food retailers and slightly closer to convenience stores. Furthermore, food insecure households reported traveling slightly farther to their primary food retailer. The differences between the two groups was, however, relatively small.
Abstract: Functioning of a biometric system in large part
depends on the performance of the similarity measure function.
Frequently a generalized similarity distance measure function such as
Euclidian distance or Mahalanobis distance is applied to the task of
matching biometric feature vectors. However, often accuracy of a
biometric system can be greatly improved by designing a customized
matching algorithm optimized for a particular biometric application.
In this paper we propose a tailored similarity measure function for
behavioral biometric systems based on the expert knowledge of the
feature level data in the domain. We compare performance of a
proposed matching algorithm to that of other well known similarity
distance functions and demonstrate its superiority with respect to the
chosen domain.
Abstract: In this paper we propose a new content-weighted
method for full reference (FR) video quality control using a region of
interest (ROI) and wherein two-component weighted metrics for Deaf
People Video Communication. In our approach, an image is
partitioned into region of interest and into region "dry-as-dust", then
region of interest is partitioned into two parts: edges and background
(smooth regions), while the another methods (metrics) combined and
weighted three or more parts as edges, edges errors, texture, smooth
regions, blur, block distance etc. as we proposed. Using another idea
that different image regions from deaf people video communication
have different perceptual significance relative to quality. Intensity
edges certainly contain considerable image information and are
perceptually significant.
Abstract: Internet Access Technologies (IAT) provide a means
through which Internet can be accessed. The choice of a suitable
Internet technology is increasingly becoming an important issue to
ISP clients. Currently, the choice of IAT is based on discretion and
intuition of the concerned managers and the reliance on ISPs. In this
paper we propose a model and designs algorithms that are used in the
Internet access technology specification. In the proposed model, three
ranking approaches are introduced; concurrent ranking, stepwise
ranking and weighted ranking. The model ranks the IAT based on
distance measures computed in ascending order while the global
ranking system assigns weights to each IAT according to the position
held in each ranking technique, determines the total weight of a
particular IAT and ranks them in descending order. The final output
is an objective ranking of IAT in descending order.
Abstract: In medical therapy, laser has been widely used to conduct cosmetic, tumor and other treatments. During the process of laser irradiation, there may be thermal damage caused by excessive laser exposure. Thus, the establishment of a complete thermal analysis model is clinically helpful to physicians in reference data. In this study, porcine liver in place of tissue was subjected to laser irradiation to set up the experimental data considering the explored impact on surface thermal field and thermal damage region under different conditions of power, laser irradiation time, and distance between laser and porcine liver. In the experimental process, the surface temperature distribution of the porcine lever was measured by the infrared thermal imager. In the part of simulation, the bio heat transfer Pennes-s equation was solved by software SYSWELD applying in welding process. The double ellipsoid function as a laser source term is firstly considered in the prediction for surface thermal field and internal tissue damage. The simulation results are compared with the experimental data to validate the mathematical model established here in.
Abstract: In the last couple of years Bluetooth has gained a large share in the market of home and personal appliances. It is now a well established technology a short range supplement to the wireless world of 802.11. The two main trends of research that have sprung from these developments are directed towards the coexistence and performance issues of Bluetooth and 802.11 as well as the co-existence in the very short range of multiple Bluetooth devices. Our work aims at thoroughly investigating different aspects of co-channel interference and effects of transmission power, distance and 802.11 interference on Bluetooth connections.
Abstract: This paper presents the simulation the results of
electric field and potential distributions along surface of silicone
rubber polymer insulators. Near the same leakage distance subjected
to 15 kV in 50 cycle salt fog ageing test, alternate sheds silicone
rubber polymer insulator showed better contamination performance
than straight sheds silicone rubber polymer insulator. Severe surface
ageing was observed on the straight sheds insulator. The objective of
this work is to elucidate that electric field distribution along straight
sheds insulator higher than alternate shed insulator in salt fog ageing
test. Finite element method (FEM) is adopted for this work. The
simulation results confirmed the experimental data, as well.
Abstract: Energy consumption rate during the cooling process
of industrial glass tempering process is considerably high. In this
experimental study the effect of dimensionless jet to jet distance
(S/D) and jet to plate distance (H/D) on the cooling time have been
investigated. In the experiments 4 mm thick glass samples have been
used. Cooling unit consists of 16 mutually placed seamless aluminum
nozzles of 8 mm in diameter and 80 mm in length. Nozzles were in
staggered arrangement. Experiments were conducted with circular
jets for H/D values between 1 and 10, and for S/D values between 2
and 10. During the experiments Reynolds number has been kept
constant at 30000. Experimental results showed that the longest
cooling time with 87 seconds has been observed in the experiments
for S/D=10 and H/D=10 values, while the shortest cooling time with
42.5 seconds has been measured in the experiments for S/D=2 and
H/D=4 values.
Abstract: The IFS is a scheme for describing and manipulating complex fractal attractors using simple mathematical models. More precisely, the most popular “fractal –based" algorithms for both representation and compression of computer images have involved some implementation of the method of Iterated Function Systems (IFS) on complete metric spaces. In this paper a new generalized space called Multi-Fuzzy Fractal Space was constructed. On these spases a distance function is defined, and its completeness is proved. The completeness property of this space ensures the existence of a fixed-point theorem for the family of continuous mappings. This theorem is the fundamental result on which the IFS methods are based and the fractals are built. The defined mappings are proved to satisfy some generalizations of the contraction condition.
Abstract: There are reports of gas and oil wells fire due to different accidents. Many different methods are used for fire fighting in gas and oil industry. Traditional fire extinguishing techniques are mostly faced with many problems and are usually time consuming and needs lots of equipments. Besides, they cause damages to facilities, and create health and environmental problems. This article proposes innovative approach in fire extinguishing techniques in oil and gas industry, especially applicable for burning oil wells located offshore. Fire extinguishment employing a turbojet is a novel approach which can help to extinguishment the fire in short period of time. Divergent and convergent turbojets modeled in laboratory scale along with a high pressure flame were used. Different experiments were conducted to determine the relationship between output discharges of trumpet and oil wells. The results were corrected and the relationship between dimensionless parameters of flame and fire extinguishment distances and also the output discharge of turbojet and oil wells in specified distances are demonstrated by specific curves.
Abstract: The distance protection mainly the impedance relay which is considered as the main protection for transmission lines can be subjected to impedance measurement error which is, mainly, due to the fault resistance and to the power fluctuation. Thus, the impedance relay may not operate for a short circuit at the far end of the protected line (case of the under reach) or operates for a fault beyond its protected zone (case of overreach). In this paper, an approach to fault detection by a distance protection, which distinguishes between the faulty conditions and the effect of overload operation mode, has been developed. This approach is based on the symmetrical components; mainly the negative sequence, and it is taking into account both the effect of fault resistance and the overload situation which both have an effect upon the reliability of the protection in terms of dependability for the former and security for the latter.
Abstract: In this paper we study different similarity based approaches for the development of QSAR model devoted to the prediction of activity of antiobesity drugs. Classical similarity approaches are compared regarding to dissimilarity models based on the consideration of the calculation of Euclidean distances between the nonisomorphic fragments extracted in the matching process. Combining the classical similarity and dissimilarity approaches into a new similarity measure, the Approximate Similarity was also studied, and better results were obtained. The application of the proposed method to the development of quantitative structure-activity relationships (QSAR) has provided reliable tools for predicting of inhibitory activity of drugs. Acceptable results were obtained for the models presented here.
Abstract: Optical networks are high capacity networks that meet
the rapidly growing demand for bandwidth in the terrestrial
telecommunications industry. This paper studies and evaluates singlemode
and multimode fiber transmission by varying the distance. It
focuses on their performance in LAN environment. This is achieved
by observing the pulse spreading and attenuation in optical spectrum
and eye-diagram that are obtained using OptSim simulator. The
behaviors of two modes with different distance of data transmission
are studied, evaluated and compared.
Abstract: Ant colony optimization (ACO) and its variants are
applied extensively to resolve various continuous optimization
problems. As per the various diversification and intensification
schemes of ACO for continuous function optimization, researchers
generally consider components of multidimensional state space to
generate the new search point(s). However, diversifying to a new
search space by updating only components of the multidimensional
vector may not ensure that the new point is at a significant distance
from the current solution. If a minimum distance is not ensured
during diversification, then there is always a possibility that the
search will end up with reaching only local optimum. Therefore, to
overcome such situations, a Mahalanobis distance-based
diversification with Nelder-Mead simplex-based search scheme for
each ant is proposed for the ACO strategy. A comparative
computational run results, based on nine nonlinear standard test
problems, confirms that the performance of ACO is improved
significantly with the integration of the proposed schemes in the
ACO.
