Abstract: This paper presents modeling and analysis of 12-phase distribution static compensator (DSTATCOM), which is capable of balancing the source currents in spite of unbalanced loading and phase outages. In addition to balance the supply current, the power factor can be set to a desired value. The theory of instantaneous symmetrical components is used to generate the twelve-phase reference currents. These reference currents are then tracked using current controlled voltage source inverter, operated in a hysteresis band control scheme. An ideal compensator in place of physical realization of the compensator is used. The performance of the proposed DTATCOM is validated through MATLAB simulation and detailed simulation results are given.
Abstract: A new, rapidly convergent, numerical procedure for
internal loading distribution computation in statically loaded, singlerow,
angular-contact ball bearings, subjected to a known combined
radial and thrust load, which must be applied so that to avoid tilting
between inner and outer rings, is used to find the load distribution
differences between a loaded unfitted bearing at room temperature,
and the same loaded bearing with interference fits that might
experience radial temperature gradients between inner and outer
rings. For each step of the procedure it is required the iterative
solution of Z + 2 simultaneous nonlinear equations – where Z is the
number of the balls – to yield exact solution for axial and radial
deflections, and contact angles.
Abstract: Modeling of a manufacturing system enables one to
identify the effects of key design parameters on the system performance and as a result to make correct decision. This paper
proposes a manufacturing system modeling approach using a spreadsheet model based on queuing network theory, in which a
static capacity planning model and stochastic queuing model are integrated. The model was used to improve the existing system utilization in relation to product design. The model incorporates few
parameters such as utilization, cycle time, throughput, and batch size.
The study also showed that the validity of developed model is good enough to apply and the maximum value of relative error is 10%, far
below the limit value 32%. Therefore, the model developed in this
study is a valuable alternative model in evaluating a manufacturing system
Abstract: We succeeded to produce a high performance and flexible graphene/Manganese dioxide (G/MnO2) electrode coated on flexible polyethylene terephthalate (PET) substrate. The graphene film is initially synthesized by drop-casting the graphene oxide (GO) solution on the PET substrate, followed by simultaneous reduction and patterning of the dried film using carbon dioxide (CO2) laser beam with power of 1.8 W. Potentiostatic Anodic Deposition method was used to deposit thin film of MnO2 with different loading mass 10 – 50 and 100 μg.cm-2 on the pre-prepared graphene film. The electrodes were fully characterized in terms of structure, morphology, and electrochemical performance. A maximum specific capacitance of 973 F.g-1 was attributed when depositing 50μg.cm-2 MnO2 on the laser reduced graphene oxide rGO (or G/50MnO2) and over 92% of its initial capacitance was retained after 1000 cycles. The good electrochemical performance and long-term cycling stability make our proposed approach a promising candidate in the supercapacitor applications.
Abstract: In this study, some physical and mechanical properties
of jujube fruits, were measured and compared at constant moisture
content of 15.5% w.b. The results showed that the mean length, width
and thickness of jujube fruits were 18.88, 16.79 and 15.9 mm,
respectively. The mean projected areas of jujube perpendicular to
length, width, and thickness were 147.01, 224.08 and 274.60 mm2,
respectively. The mean mass and volume were 1.51 g and 2672.80
mm3, respectively. The arithmetic mean diameter, geometric mean
diameter and equivalent diameter varied from 14.53 to 20 mm, 14.5
to 19.94 mm, and 14.52 to 19.97 mm, respectively. The sphericity,
aspect ratio and surface area of jujube fruits were 0.91, 0.89 and
926.28 mm2, respectively. Whole fruit density, bulk density and
porosity of jujube fruits were measured and found to be 1.52 g/cm3,
0.3 g/cm3 and 79.3%, respectively. The angle of repose of jujube fruit
was 14.66° (±0.58°). The static coefficient of friction on galvanized
iron steel was higher than that on plywood and lower than that on
glass surface. The values of rupture force, deformation, hardness and
energy absorbed were found to be between 11.13-19.91N, 2.53-
4.82mm, 3.06-5.81N mm and 20.13-39.08 N/mm, respectively.
Abstract: In CMOS integrated circuit design there is a trade-off between static power consumption and technology scaling. Recently, the power density has increased due to combination of higher clock speeds, greater functional integration, and smaller process geometries. As a result static power consumption is becoming more dominant. This is a challenge for the circuit designers. However, the designers do have a few methods which they can use to reduce this static power consumption. But all of these methods have some drawbacks. In order to achieve lower static power consumption, one has to sacrifice design area and circuit performance. In this paper, we propose a new method to reduce static power in the CMOS VLSI circuit using Variable Body Biasing technique without being penalized in area requirement and circuit performance.
Abstract: The effect of notch depth on the elastic new strainconcentration
factor (SNCF) of rectangular bars with single edge Unotch
under combined loading is studied here. The finite element
method (FEM) and super position technique are used in the current
study. This new SNCF under combined loading of static tension and
pure bending has been defined under triaxial stress state. The
employed specimens have constant gross thickness of 16.7 mm and
net section thickness varied to give net-to-gross thickness ratio ho/Ho
from 0.2 to 0.95. The results indicated that the elastic SNCF for
combined loading increases with increasing notch depth up to ho/Ho =
0.7 and sharply decreases with increasing notch depth. It is also
indicated that the elastic SNCF of combined loading is greater than
that of pure bending and less than that of the static tension for 0.2 ≤
ho/Ho ≤ 0.7. However, the elastic SNCF of combined loading is the
elastic SNCF for static tension and less than that of pure bending for
shallow notches (i.e. 0.8 ≤ ho/Ho ≤ 0.95).
Abstract: With continuous rise of oil price, how to develop alternative energy source has become a hot topic around the world. This study discussed the dynamic characteristics of an island power system operating under random wind speed lower than nominal wind
speeds of wind turbines. The system primarily consists of three diesel engine power generation systems, three constant-speed variable-pitch wind turbines, a small hydraulic induction generation system, and lumped static loads. Detailed models based on Matlab/Simulink were developed to cater for the dynamic behavior of the system. The results suggested this island power system can operate stably in this operational mode. This study can serve as an important reference for planning, operation, and further expansion of island power systems.
Abstract: The present study focuses on methods allowing a convenient and quick calculation of the SIFs in order to predict the static adhesive strength of bonded joints. A new SIF calculation method is proposed, based on the stresses obtained from a FE model at a reference point located in the adhesive layer at equal distance of the free-edge and of the two interfaces. It is shown that, even limiting ourselves to the two main modes, i.e. the opening and the shearing modes, and using the values of the stresses resulting from a low detailed FE model, an efficient calculation of the peeling stress at adhesive-substrate corners can be obtained by this way. The proposed method is interesting in that it can be the basis of a prediction tool that will allow the designer to quickly evaluate the SIFs characterizing a particular application without developing a detailed analysis.
Abstract: A known iterative computational procedure is used for
internal normal ball loads calculation in statically loaded single-row,
angular-contact ball bearings, subjected to a known thrust load,
which is applied in the inner ring at the geometric bearing center line.
Numerical aspects of the iterative procedure are discussed.
Numerical examples results for a 218 angular-contact ball bearing
have been compared with those from the literature. Twenty figures
are presented showing the geometrical features, the behavior of the
convergence variables and the following parameters as functions of
the thrust load: normal ball loads, contact angle, distance between
curvature centers, and normal ball and axial deflections between the
raceways.
Abstract: In this paper, design, fabrication and coupled
multifield analysis of hollow out-of-plane silicon microneedle array
with piezoelectrically actuated microfluidic device for transdermal
drug delivery (TDD) applications is presented. The fabrication
process of silicon microneedle array is first done by series of
combined isotropic and anisotropic etching processes using
inductively coupled plasma (ICP) etching technology. Then coupled
multifield analysis of MEMS based piezoelectrically actuated device
with integrated 2×2 silicon microneedle array is presented. To predict
the stress distribution and model fluid flow in coupled field analysis,
finite element (FE) and computational fluid dynamic (CFD) analysis
using ANSYS rather than analytical systems has been performed.
Static analysis and transient CFD analysis were performed to predict
the fluid flow through the microneedle array. The inlet pressure from
10 kPa to 150 kPa was considered for static CFD analysis. In the
lumen region fluid flow rate 3.2946 μL/min is obtained at 150 V for
2×2 microneedle array. In the present study the authors have
performed simulation of structural, piezoelectric and CFD analysis
on three dimensional model of the piezoelectrically actuated
mcirofluidic device integrated with 2×2 microneedle array.

Abstract: This paper proposes a set of quasi-static mathematical
model of magnetic fields caused by high voltage conductors of
distribution transformer by using a set of second-order partial
differential equation. The modification for complex magnetic field
analysis and time-harmonic simulation are also utilized. In this
research, transformers were study in both balanced and unbalanced
loading conditions. Computer-based simulation utilizing the threedimensional
finite element method (3-D FEM) is exploited as a tool
for visualizing magnetic fields distribution volume a distribution
transformer. Finite Element Method (FEM) is one among popular
numerical methods that is able to handle problem complexity in
various forms. At present, the FEM has been widely applied in most
engineering fields. Even for problems of magnetic field distribution,
the FEM is able to estimate solutions of Maxwell-s equations
governing the power transmission systems. The computer simulation
based on the use of the FEM has been developed in MATLAB
programming environment.
Abstract: High Pressure Raman scattering measurements of KDP:Mn were performed at room temperatures. The X-ray powder diffraction patterns taken at room temperature by Rietveld refinement showed that doped samples of KDP-Mn have the same tetragonal structure of a pure KDP crystal, but with a contraction of the crystalline cell. The behavior of the Raman spectra, in particular the emergence of a new modes at 330 cm-1, indicates that KDP:Mn undergoes a structural phase transition with onset at around 4 GP. First principle density-functional theory (DFT) calculations indicate that tetrahedral rotation with pressure is predominantly around the c crystalline direction. Theoretical results indicates that pressure induced tetrahedral rotations leads to change tetrahedral neighborhood, activating librations/bending modes observed for high pressure phase of KDP:Mn with stronger Raman activity.
Abstract: In this paper, a novel LVTSCR-based device for
electrostatic discharge (ESD) protection of integrated circuits (ICs) is
designed, fabricated and characterized. The proposed device is similar
to the conventional LVTSCR but it has an embedded PMOSFET in the
anode n-well to enhance the turn on speed, the clamping capability and
the robustness. This is possible because the embedded PMOSFET
provides the sub-path of ESD discharge current. The TLP, HBM and
MM testing are carried out to verify the ESD performance of the
proposed devices, which are fabricated in 0.35um
(Bipolar-CMOS-DMOS) BCDMOS process. The device has the
robustness of 70mA/um that is higher about 60mA/um than the
LVTSCR, approximately.
Abstract: This paper proposes a novel game theoretical
technique to address the problem of data object replication in largescale
distributed computing systems. The proposed technique draws
inspiration from computational economic theory and employs the
extended Vickrey auction. Specifically, players in a non-cooperative
environment compete for server-side scarce memory space to
replicate data objects so as to minimize the total network object
transfer cost, while maintaining object concurrency. Optimization of
such a cost in turn leads to load balancing, fault-tolerance and
reduced user access time. The method is experimentally evaluated
against four well-known techniques from the literature: branch and
bound, greedy, bin-packing and genetic algorithms. The experimental
results reveal that the proposed approach outperforms the four
techniques in both the execution time and solution quality.
Abstract: An embedded system for SEU(single event upset) test
needs to be designed to prevent system failure by high-energy particles
during measuring SEU. SEU is a phenomenon in which the data is changed temporary in semiconductor device caused by high-energy particles. In this paper, we present an embedded system for
SRAM(static random access memory) SEU test. SRAMs are on the DUT(device under test) and it is separated from control board which
manages the DUT and measures the occurrence of SEU. It needs to
have considerations for preventing system failure while managing the
DUT and making an accurate measurement of SEUs. We measure the occurrence of SEUs from five different SRAMs at three different
cyclotron beam energies 30, 35, and 40MeV. The number of SEUs of SRAMs ranges from 3.75 to 261.00 in average.

The effect of static electric field on the energy levels of artificial atom is studied. The effect of orientation of static electric field on energy levels and diploe matrix elementsis also highlighted.
Abstract: The steady-state operation of maintaining voltage
stability is done by switching various controllers scattered all over
the power network. When a contingency occurs, whether forced or
unforced, the dispatcher is to alleviate the problem in a minimum
time, cost, and effort. Persistent problem may lead to blackout. The
dispatcher is to have the appropriate switching of controllers in terms
of type, location, and size to remove the contingency and maintain
voltage stability. Wrong switching may worsen the problem and that
may lead to blackout. This work proposed and used a Fuzzy CMeans
Clustering (FCMC) to assist the dispatcher in the decision
making. The FCMC is used in the static voltage stability to map
instantaneously a contingency to a set of controllers where the types,
locations, and amount of switching are induced.
Abstract: With rapid technology scaling, the proportion of the
static power consumption catches up with dynamic power
consumption gradually. To decrease leakage consumption is
becoming more and more important in low-power design. This paper
presents a power-gating scheme for P-DTGAL (p-type dual
transmission gate adiabatic logic) circuits to reduce leakage power
dissipations under deep submicron process. The energy dissipations of
P-DTGAL circuits with power-gating scheme are investigated in
different processes, frequencies and active ratios. BSIM4 model is
adopted to reflect the characteristics of the leakage currents. HSPICE
simulations show that the leakage loss is greatly reduced by using the
P-DTGAL with power-gating techniques.
