Abstract: In this paper, we introduce an e-collaborative learning circles methodology which utilizes the information and communication technologies (ICTs) in e-educational processes. In e-collaborative learning circles methodology, the teachers and students announce their research projects on various mailing lists and discussion boards using available ICTs. The teachers & moderators and students who are already members of the e-forums, discuss the project proposals in their classrooms sent out by the potential global partner schools and return the requested feed back to the proposing school(s) about their level of the participation and contribution in the research. In general, an e-collaborative learning circle project is implemented with a small and diverse group (usually 8-10 participants) from around the world. The students meet regularly over a period of weeks/months through the ICTs during the ecollaborative learning process. When the project is completed, a project product (e-book / DVD) is prepared and sent to the circle members. In this research, when taking into account the interests and motivation of the participating students with the facilitating role of the teacher(s), the students in each circle do research to obtain new data and information, thus enabling them to have the opportunity to meet both different cultures and international understandings across the globe. However, while the participants communicate along with the members in the circle they also practice and develop their communication language skills. Finally, teachers and students find the possibility to develop their skills in using the ICTs as well.
Abstract: The design of technological procedures for
manufacturing certain products demands the definition and
optimization of technological process parameters. Their
determination depends on the model of the process itself and its
complexity. Certain processes do not have an adequate mathematical
model, thus they are modeled using heuristic methods. First part of
this paper presents a state of the art of using soft computing
techniques in manufacturing processes from the perspective of
applicability in modern CAx systems. Methods of artificial
intelligence which can be used for this purpose are analyzed. The
second part of this paper shows some of the developed models of
certain processes, as well as their applicability in the actual
calculation of parameters of some technological processes within the
design system from the viewpoint of productivity.
Abstract: The proposed multiplexer-based novel 1-bit full
adder cell is schematized by using DSCH2 and its layout is generated
by using microwind VLSI CAD tool. The adder cell layout
interconnect analysis is performed by using BSIM4 layout analyzer.
The adder circuit is compared with other six existing adder circuits
for parametric analysis. The proposed adder cell gives better
performance than the other existing six adder circuits in terms of
power, propagation delay and PDP. The proposed adder circuit is
further analyzed for interconnect analysis, which gives better
performance than other adder circuits in terms of layout thickness,
width and height.
Abstract: In synchronized games players make their moves simultaneously
rather than alternately. Synchronized Triomineering
and Synchronized Tridomineering are respectively the synchronized
versions of Triomineering and Tridomineering, two variants of a
classic two-player combinatorial game called Domineering. Experimental
results for small m × n boards (with m + n ≤ 12 for
Synchronized Triomineering and m + n ≤ 10 for Synchronized
Tridomineering) and some theoretical results for general k×n boards
(with k = 3, 4, 5 for Synchronized Triomineering and k = 3
for Synchronized Tridomineering) are presented. Future research is
indicated.
Abstract: This work aims to investigate a potential of
microalgae for utilizing industrial wastewater as a cheap nutrient for
their growth and oil accumulation. Wastewater was collected from
the effluent ponds of agro-industrial factories (cassava and ethanol
production plants). Only 2 microalgal strains were isolated and
identified as Scenedesmus quadricauda and Chlorella sp.. However,
only S. quadricauda was selected to cultivate in various wastewater
concentrations (10%, 20%, 40%, 60%, 80% and 100%). The highest
biomass obtained at 6.6×106 and 6.27×106 cells/ml when 60%
wastewater was used in flask and photo-bioreactor. The cultures gave
the highest lipid content at 18.58 % and 42.86% in cases of S.
quadricauda and S. obliquus. In addition, under salt stress (1.0 M
NaCl), S. obliquus demonstrated the highest lipid content at 50%
which was much more than the case of no NaCl adding. However, the
concentration of NaCl does not affect on lipid accumulation in case
of S. quadricauda.
Abstract: In the traditional architecture, buildings were designed
to achieve human comfort by using locally available building materials and construction technology which were more responsive to
their climatic and geographic condition. This paper will try to bring out the wisdom of the local masons and builders, often the inhabitants
themselves, about their way of living, and shaping their built environment, indoor and outdoor spaces, as a response to the local
climatic conditions, from the findings of a field
settlement.
Abstract: The intention of this study to design the probability optimized sewing sack-s workstation based on ergonomics for productivity improvement and decreasing musculoskeletal disorders. The physical dimensions of two workers were using to design the new workstation. The physical dimensions are (1) sitting height, (2) mid shoulder height sitting, (3) shoulder breadth, (4) knee height, (5) popliteal height, (6) hip breadth and (7) buttock-knee length. The 5th percentile of buttock knee length sitting (51 cm), the 50th percentile of mid shoulder height sitting (62 cm) and the 95th percentile of popliteal height (43 cm) and hip breadth (45 cm) applied to design the workstation for sewing sack-s operator and the others used to adjust the components of this workstation. The risk assessment by RULA before and after using the probability optimized workstation were 7 and 7 scores and REBA scores were 11 and 5, respectively. Body discomfort-abnormal index was used to assess muscle fatigue of operators before adjustment workstation found that neck muscles, arm muscles area, muscles on the back and the lower back muscles fatigue. Therefore, the extension and flexion exercise was applied to relief musculoskeletal stresses. The workers exercised 15 minutes before the beginning and the end of work for 5 days. After that, the capability of flexion and extension muscles- workers were increasing in 3 muscles (arm, leg, and back muscles).
Abstract: Fire disaster is the major factor to endanger the public
and environmental safety. People lost their life during fire disaster
mainly be attributed to the dense smoke and toxic gas under
combustion, which hinder the escape of people and the rescue of
firefighters under fire disaster. The smoke suppression effect of
several transitional metals oxide on the epoxy resin treated with
intumescent flame retardant and titanate couple agent
(EP/IFR/Titanate) system have been investigated. The results showed
manganese dioxide has great effect on reducing the smoke density rate
(SDR) of EP/IFR/Titanate system; however it has little effect to reduce
the maximum smoke density (MSD) of EP/IFR/Titanate system.
Copper oxide can decrease the maximum smoke density (MSD) and
smoke density rate of EP/IFR/Titanate system substantially. The MSD
and SDR of EP/IFR/Titanate system can reduce 20.3% and 39.1%
respectively when 2% of copper oxide is introduced.
Abstract: The intention of this paper is, to help the user of evolutionary algorithms to adapt them easier to their problem at hand. For a lot of problems in the technical field it is not necessary to reach an optimum solution, but to reach a good solution in time. In many cases the solution is undetermined or there doesn-t exist a method to determine the solution. For these cases an evolutionary algorithm can be useful. This paper intents to give the user rules of thumb with which it is easier to decide if the problem is suitable for an evolutionary algorithm and how to design them.
Abstract: The special and unique advantages of explosive
forming, has developed its use in different industries. Considering the
important influence of improving the current explosive forming
techniques on increasing the efficiency and control over the
explosive forming procedure, the effects of air and water as the
energy-conveying medium, and also their differences will be
illustrated in this paper. Hence, a large number of explosive forming
tests have been conducted on two sizes of thin walled cylindrical
shells by using air and water as the working medium. Comparative
diagrams of the maximum radial deflection of work-pieces of the
same size, as a function of the scaled distance, show that for the
points with the same values of scaled distance, the maximum radial
deformation caused by the under water explosive loading is 4 to 5
times more than the deflection of the shells under explosive forming,
while using air. Results of this experimental research have also been
compared with other studies which show that using water as the
energy conveying media increases the efficiency up to 4.8 times. The
effect of the media on failure modes of the shells, and the necking
mechanism of the walls of the specimens, while being explosively
loaded, are also discussed in this issue. Measuring the tested
specimens shows that, the increase in the internal volume has been
accompanied by necking of the walls, which finally results in the
radial rupture of the structure.
Abstract: Rural villagers in Thailand have unique skill for producing craft using local materials. However, the appearance and function of their products are not suited to the demand of international market. The Thai government policy on sustainable economy emphasises the necessity to incorporate a design strategy that will draw out the unique qualities and add value to the products, while raising the satisfaction of international consumer. As an industrial designer, the author sees opportunities that design can enhance sustainability of Thai local products through the potentials that available in village-based enterprises. This research attempts to address, how best use design to practically solve the problems in the development of Thais product in. The privilege solution is expressed through the design of design strategy that supports sustain economic development of microenterprise in Thailand in the way that aligns with product design development. This consideration integrates together with global business outlook in the development of products from rural communities.
Abstract: The rapid adoption of Internet has turned the Millennial Teens- life like a lightning speed. Empirical evidence has illustrated that Pathological Internet Use (PIU) among them ensure long-term success to the market players in the children industry. However, it creates concerns among their care takers as it generates mental disorder among some of them. The purpose of this paper is to examine the determinants of PIU and identify its outcomes among urban Millennial Teens. It aims to develop a theoretical framework based on a modified Media System Dependency (MSD) Theory that integrates important systems and components that determine and resulted from PIU.
Abstract: A road pricing game is a game where various stakeholders and/or regions with different (and usually conflicting) objectives compete for toll setting in a given transportation network to satisfy their individual objectives. We investigate some classical game theoretical solution concepts for the road pricing game. We establish results for the road pricing game so that stakeholders and/or regions playing such a game will beforehand know what is obtainable. This will save time and argument, and above all, get rid of the feelings of unfairness among the competing actors and road users. Among the classical solution concepts we investigate is Nash equilibrium. In particular, we show that no pure Nash equilibrium exists among the actors, and further illustrate that even “mixed Nash equilibrium" may not be achievable in the road pricing game. The paper also demonstrates the type of coalitions that are not only reachable, but also stable and profitable for the actors involved.
Abstract: Renewable energy sources have gained ultimate urgency due to the need of the preservation of the environment for a sustainable development. Pyrolysis is an ultimate promising process in the recycling and acquisition of precious chemicals from wastes. Here, the co-pyrolysis of hazelnut shell with ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene was carried out catalytically and noncatalytically at 500 and 650 ºC. Potassium dichromate was added in certain amounts to act as a catalyst. The liquid, solid and gas products quantities were determined by gravimetry. As a main result, remarkable increases in gasification were observed by using this catalyst for pure components and their blends especially at 650 ºC. The increase in gas product quantity was compensated mainly with the decreases in the solid products and additionally in some cases liquid products quantities. These observations may stem from mainly the activation of carbon-carbon bonds rather than carbon-hydrogen bonds via potassium dichromate. Also, the catalytic effect of potassium dichromate on HS: PEO and HS: UHMWPE co-pyrolysis was compared.
Abstract: This paper proposes an active soft-switching circuit for
bridge converters aiming to improve the power conversion efficiency.
The proposed circuit achieves loss-less switching for both main and
auxiliary switches without increasing the main switch current/voltage
rating. A winding coupled to the primary of power transformer
ensures ZCS for the auxiliary switches during their turn-off. A 350 W,
100 kHz phase shifted full bridge (PSFB) converter is built to validate
the analysis and design. Theoretical loss calculations for proposed
circuit is presented. The proposed circuit is compared with passive
soft switched PSFB in terms of efficiency and loss in duty cycle.
Abstract: Multimedia distributed systems deal with heterogeneous
data, such as texts, images, graphics, video and audio. The specification
of temporal relations among different data types and distributed
sources is an open research area. This paper proposes a fully
distributed synchronization model to be used in multimedia systems.
One original aspect of the model is that it avoids the use of a common
reference (e.g. wall clock and shared memory). To achieve this, all
possible multimedia temporal relations are specified according to
their causal dependencies.
Abstract: In theoretical computer science, the Turing machine has played a number of important roles in understanding and exploiting basic concepts and mechanisms in computing and information processing [20]. It is a simple mathematical model of computers [9]. After that, M.Blum and C.Hewitt first proposed two-dimensional automata as a computational model of two-dimensional pattern processing, and investigated their pattern recognition abilities in 1967 [7]. Since then, a lot of researchers in this field have been investigating many properties about automata on a two- or three-dimensional tape. On the other hand, the question of whether processing fourdimensional digital patterns is much more difficult than two- or threedimensional ones is of great interest from the theoretical and practical standpoints. Thus, the study of four-dimensional automata as a computasional model of four-dimensional pattern processing has been meaningful [8]-[19],[21]. This paper introduces a cooperating system of four-dimensional finite automata as one model of four-dimensional automata. A cooperating system of four-dimensional finite automata consists of a finite number of four-dimensional finite automata and a four-dimensional input tape where these finite automata work independently (in parallel). Those finite automata whose input heads scan the same cell of the input tape can communicate with each other, that is, every finite automaton is allowed to know the internal states of other finite automata on the same cell it is scanning at the moment. In this paper, we mainly investigate some accepting powers of a cooperating system of eight- or seven-way four-dimensional finite automata. The seven-way four-dimensional finite automaton is an eight-way four-dimensional finite automaton whose input head can move east, west, south, north, up, down, or in the fu-ture, but not in the past on a four-dimensional input tape.
Abstract: In recent years a number of applications with multirobot
systems (MRS) is growing in various areas. But their design
is in practice often difficult and algorithms are proposed for the
theoretical background and do not consider errors and noise in real
conditions, so they are not usable in real environment. These errors
are visible also in task of target localization enough, when robots
try to find and estimate the position of the target by the sensors.
Localization of target is possible also with one robot but as it was
examined target finding and localization with group of mobile robots
can estimate the target position more accurately and faster. The
accuracy of target position estimation is made by cooperation of
MRS and particle filtering. Advantage of usage the MRS with particle
filtering was tested on task of fixed target localization by group of
mobile robots.
Abstract: Many companies have switched their processes to project-oriented in the last years. This brings new possibilities and effectiveness not only in the field of external processes connected with the product delivery but also the internal processes as well. However centralized project organization which is based on the role of project manager in the team has proved insufficient in some cases. Agile methods of project organization are trying to solve this problem by bringing new view on the project organization, roles, processes and competences. Scrum is one of these methods which builds on the principles of knowledge management to drive the project to effectiveness from all view angles. Using this method to organize internal and delivery projects helps the organization to create and share knowledge throughout the company. It also supports forming unique competences of individuals and project teams and drives innovations in the company.
Abstract: Before performing polymerase chain reactions (PCR), a feasible primer set is required. Many primer design methods have been proposed for design a feasible primer set. However, the majority of these methods require a relatively long time to obtain an optimal solution since large quantities of template DNA need to be analyzed. Furthermore, the designed primer sets usually do not provide a specific PCR product. In recent years, evolutionary computation has been applied to PCR primer design and yielded promising results. In this paper, a particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithm is proposed to solve primer design problems associated with providing a specific product for PCR experiments. A test set of the gene CYP1A1, associated with a heightened lung cancer risk was analyzed and the comparison of accuracy and running time with the genetic algorithm (GA) and memetic algorithm (MA) was performed. A comparison of results indicated that the proposed PSO method for primer design finds optimal or near-optimal primer sets and effective PCR products in a relatively short time.
