Abstract: Neuromuscular control of posture as understood
through studies of responses to mechanical sudden acceleration
automatically has been previously demonstrated in individuals with
chronic ankle instability (CAI), but the presence of acute condition
has not been previously explored specially in a sudden acceleration.
The aim of this study was to determine neuromuscular control pattern
in those with and without unilateral acute ankle sprains. Design: Case
- control. Setting: University research laboratory. The sinker–card
protocol with surface translation was be used as a sudden acceleration
protocol with study of EMG upon 4 posture stabilizer muscles in two
sides of the body in response to sudden acceleration in forward and
backward directions. 20 young adult women in two groups (10 LAS;
23.9 ± 2.03 yrs and 10 normal; 26.4 ± 3.2 yrs). The data of EMG
were assessed by using multivariate test and one-way repeated
measures 2×2×4 ANOVA (P< 0.05). The results showed a significant
muscle by direction interaction. Higher TA activity of left and right
side in LAS group than normal group in forward direction
significantly be showed. Higher MGR activity in normal group than
LAS group in backward direction significantly showed. These
findings suggest that compared two sides of the body in two
directions for 4 muscles EMG activities between and within group for
neuromuscular control of posture in avoiding fall. EMG activations
of two sides of the body in lateral ankle sprain (LAS) patients were
symmetric significantly. Acute ankle instability following once ankle
sprains caused to coordinated temporal spatial patterns and strategy
selection.
Abstract: Location selection presents a crucial decision problem in today’s business world where strategic decision making processes have critical importance. Thus, location selection has strategic importance for companies in boosting their strength regarding competition, increasing corporate performances and efficiency in addition to lowering production and transportation costs. A right choice in location selection has a direct impact on companies’ commercial success. In this study, a store location selection problem of Carglass Turkey which operates in vehicle glass branch is handled. As this problem includes both tangible and intangible criteria, Analytic Network Process (ANP) was accepted as the main methodology. The model consists of control hierarchy and BOCR subnetworks which include clusters of actors, alternatives and criteria. In accordance with the management’s choices, five different locations were selected. In addition to the literature review, a strict cooperation with the actor group was ensured and maintained while determining the criteria and during whole process. Obtained results were presented to the management as a report and its feasibility was confirmed accordingly.
Abstract: Due to the increasing growth of internet users, the emerging applications of multicast are growing day by day and there is a requisite for the design of high-speed switches/routers. Huge amounts of effort have been done into the research area of multicast switch fabric design and algorithms. Different traffic scenarios are the influencing factor which affect the throughput and delay of the switch. The pointer based multicast scheduling algorithms are not performed well under non-uniform traffic conditions. In this work, performance of the switch has been analyzed by applying the advanced multicast scheduling algorithm OQSMS (Optimal Queue Selection Based Multicast Scheduling Algorithm), MDDR (Multicast Due Date Round-Robin Scheduling Algorithm) and MDRR (Multicast Dual Round-Robin Scheduling Algorithm). The results show that OQSMS achieves better switching performance than other algorithms under the uniform, non-uniform and bursty traffic conditions and it estimates optimal queue in each time slot so that it achieves maximum possible throughput.
Abstract: Proper selection of welding parameters for getting
excellent weld is a challenge. HAZ simulation helps in identifying
suitable welding parameters like heating rate, cooling rate, peak
temperature, and energy input. In this study, the influence of weld
thermal cycle of heat affected zone (HAZ) is simulated for
Submerged Arc Welding (SAW) using Gleeble ® 3800 thermomechanical
simulator. A (Micro-alloyed) MA steel plate of thickness
18 mm having yield strength 450MPa is used for making test
specimens. Determination of the mechanical properties of weld
simulated specimens including Charpy V-notch toughness and
hardness is performed. Peak temperatures of 1300°C, 1150°C,
1000°C, 900°C, 800°C, heat energy input of 22KJ/cm and preheat
temperatures of 30°C have been used with Rykalin-3D simulation
model. It is found that the impact toughness (75J) is the best for the
simulated HAZ specimen at the peak temperature 900ºC. For parent
steel, impact toughness value is 26.8J at -50°C in transverse
direction.
Abstract: Cancer affects people globally with breast cancer being a leading killer. Breast cancer is due to the uncontrollable multiplication of cells resulting in a tumour or neoplasm. Tumours are called ‘benign’ when cancerous cells do not ravage other body tissues and ‘malignant’ if they do so. As mammography is an effective breast cancer detection tool at an early stage which is the most treatable stage it is the primary imaging modality for screening and diagnosis of this cancer type. This paper presents an automatic mammogram classification technique using wavelet and Gabor filter. Correlation feature selection is used to reduce the feature set and selected features are classified using different decision trees.
Abstract: Rough set theory is used to handle uncertainty and incomplete information by applying two accurate sets, Lower approximation and Upper approximation. In this paper, the rough clustering algorithms are improved by adopting the Similarity, Dissimilarity–Similarity and Entropy based initial centroids selection method on three different clustering algorithms namely Entropy based Rough K-Means (ERKM), Similarity based Rough K-Means (SRKM) and Dissimilarity-Similarity based Rough K-Means (DSRKM) were developed and executed by yeast dataset. The rough clustering algorithms are validated by cluster validity indexes namely Rand and Adjusted Rand indexes. An experimental result shows that the ERKM clustering algorithm perform effectively and delivers better results than other clustering methods. Outlier detection is an important task in data mining and very much different from the rest of the objects in the clusters. Entropy based Rough Outlier Factor (EROF) method is seemly to detect outlier effectively for yeast dataset. In rough K-Means method, by tuning the epsilon (ᶓ) value from 0.8 to 1.08 can detect outliers on boundary region and the RKM algorithm delivers better results, when choosing the value of epsilon (ᶓ) in the specified range. An experimental result shows that the EROF method on clustering algorithm performed very well and suitable for detecting outlier effectively for all datasets. Further, experimental readings show that the ERKM clustering method outperformed the other methods.
Abstract: As DNA microarray data contain relatively small
sample size compared to the number of genes, high dimensional
models are often employed. In high dimensional models, the selection
of tuning parameter (or, penalty parameter) is often one of the crucial
parts of the modeling. Cross-validation is one of the most common
methods for the tuning parameter selection, which selects a parameter
value with the smallest cross-validated score. However, selecting a
single value as an ‘optimal’ value for the parameter can be very
unstable due to the sampling variation since the sample sizes of
microarray data are often small. Our approach is to choose multiple candidates of tuning parameter
first, then average the candidates with different weights depending
on their performance. The additional step of estimating the weights
and averaging the candidates rarely increase the computational cost,
while it can considerably improve the traditional cross-validation. We
show that the selected value from the suggested methods often lead to
stable parameter selection as well as improved detection of significant
genetic variables compared to the tradition cross-validation via real
data and simulated data sets.
Abstract: This study reports a comparison from an exergetic point of view between three configurations of vapor compression industrial refrigeration systems operating with R134a as working fluid. The performances of the different cycles are analyzed as function of several operating parameters such as condensing temperature and inter stage pressure. In addition, the contributions of component exergy destruction to the total exergy destruction are obtained for each system. The results are estimated to be used in the selection of the most advantageous configuration from an exergetic view point.
Abstract: Governments constantly seek to offer faster, more secure, efficient and effective services for their citizens. Recent changes and developments to communication services and technologies, mainly due the Internet, have led to immense improvements in the way governments of advanced countries carry out their interior operations Therefore, advances in e-government services have been broadly adopted and used in various developed countries, as well as being adapted to developing countries. The implementation of advances depends on the utilization of the most innovative structures of data techniques, mainly in web dependent applications, to enhance the main functions of governments. These functions, in turn, have spread to mobile and wireless techniques, generating a new advanced direction called m-government. This paper discusses a selection of available m-government applications and several business modules and frameworks in various fields. Practically, the m-government models, techniques and methods have become the improved version of e-government. M-government offers the potential for applications which will work better, providing citizens with services utilizing mobile communication and data models incorporating several government entities. Developing countries can benefit greatly from this innovation due to the fact that a large percentage of their population is young and can adapt to new technology and to the fact that mobile computing devices are more affordable. The use of models of mobile transactions encourages effective participation through the use of mobile portals by businesses, various organizations, and individual citizens. Although the application of m-government has great potential, it does have major limitations. The limitations include: the implementation of wireless networks and relative communications, the encouragement of mobile diffusion, the administration of complicated tasks concerning the protection of security (including the ability to offer privacy for information), and the management of the legal issues concerning mobile applications and the utilization of services.
Abstract: MSN used to be the most popular application for
communicating among social networks, but Facebook chat is now the
most popular. Facebook and MSN have similar characteristics,
including usefulness, ease-of-use, and a similar function, which is the
exchanging of information with friends. Facebook outperforms MSN
in both of these areas. However, the adoption of Facebook and
abandonment of MSN have occurred for other reasons. Functions can
be improved, but users’ willingness to use does not just depend on
functionality. Flow status has been established to be crucial to users’
adoption of cyber applications and to affects users’ adoption of
software applications. If users experience flow in using software
application, they will enjoy using it frequently, and even change their
preferred application from an old to this new one. However, no
investigation has examined choice behavior related to switching from
Facebook to MSN based on a consideration of flow experiences and
functions. This investigation discusses the flow experiences and
functions of social-networking applications. Flow experience is found
to affect perceived ease of use and perceived usefulness; perceived
ease of use influences information ex-change with friends, and
perceived usefulness; information exchange influences perceived
usefulness, but information exchange has no effect on flow
experience.
Abstract: Due to its high computational cost, mutation testing has been neglected by researchers. Recently, many cost and mutants’ reduction techniques have been developed, improved, and experimented, but few of them has relied the possibility of reducing the cost of mutation testing on the program type of the application under test. This paper is a comparative study between four operators’ selection techniques (mutants sampling, class level operators, method level operators, and all operators’ selection) based on the program code type of each application under test. It aims at finding an alternative approach to reveal the effect of code type on mutation testing score. The result of our experiment shows that the program code type can affect the mutation score and that the programs using polymorphism are best suited to be tested with mutation testing.
Abstract: The material selection problem is concerned with the
determination of the right material for a certain product to optimize
certain performance indices in that product such as mass, energy
density, and power-to-weight ratio. This paper is concerned about
optimizing the selection of the manufacturing process along with the
material used in the product under performance indices and
availability constraints. In this paper, the material selection problem
is formulated using binary programming and solved by genetic
algorithm. The objective function of the model is to minimize the
total manufacturing cost under performance indices and material and
manufacturing process availability constraints.
Abstract: Solar water heating is a thermodynamic process of
heating water using sunlight with the help of solar water heater. Thus,
solar water heater is a device used to harness solar energy. In this
paper, a modified solar water heating system (MSWHS) has been
proposed over flat plate collector (FPC) and Evacuated tube collector
(ETC). The modifications include selection of materials other than
glass, and glass wool which are conventionally used for fabricating
FPC and ETC. Some modifications in design have also been
proposed. Its collector is made of double layer of semi-cylindrical
acrylic tubes and fibre reinforced plastic (FRP) insulation base. Water
tank is made of double layer of acrylic sheet except base and north
wall. FRP is used in base and north wall of the water tank. A concept
of equivalent thickness has been utilised for calculating the
dimensions of collector plate, acrylic tube and tank. A thermal model for the proposed design of MSWHS is developed
and simulation is carried out on MATLAB for the capacity of 200L
MSWHS having collector area of 1.6 m2, length of acrylic tubes of
2m at an inclination angle 25° which is taken nearly equal to the
latitude of the given location. Latitude of Allahabad is 24.45° N. The
results show that the maximum temperature of water in tank and tube
has been found to be 71.2°C and 73.3°C at 17:00hr and 16:00hr
respectively in March for the climatic data of Allahabad. Theoretical performance analysis has been carried out by varying
number of tubes of collector, the tank capacity and climatic data for
given months of winter and summer.
Abstract: Many cluster based routing protocols have been
proposed in the field of wireless sensor networks, in which a group of
nodes are formed as clusters. A cluster head is selected from one
among those nodes based on residual energy, coverage area, number
of hops and that cluster-head will perform data gathering from
various sensor nodes and forwards aggregated data to the base station
or to a relay node (another cluster-head), which will forward the
packet along with its own data packet to the base station. Here a
Game Theory based Diligent Energy Utilization Algorithm (GTDEA)
for routing is proposed. In GTDEA, the cluster head selection is done
with the help of game theory, a decision making process, that selects
a cluster-head based on three parameters such as residual energy
(RE), Received Signal Strength Index (RSSI) and Packet Reception
Rate (PRR). Finding a feasible path to the destination with minimum
utilization of available energy improves the network lifetime and is
achieved by the proposed approach. In GTDEA, the packets are
forwarded to the base station using inter-cluster routing technique,
which will further forward it to the base station. Simulation results
reveal that GTDEA improves the network performance in terms of
throughput, lifetime, and power consumption.
Abstract: The present study investigates the effectiveness of
newly designed clayey pellets (fired clay pellets diameter sizes of 5
and 8 mm, and unfired clay pellets with the diameter size of 15 mm)
as the beds in the column adsorption process. The adsorption
experiments in the batch mode were performed before the column
experiment with the purpose to determine the order of adsorbent
package in the column which was to be designed in the investigation.
The column experiment was performed by using a known mass of the
clayey beds and the volume of the waste printing developer, which
was purified. The column was filled in the following order: fired clay
pellets of the diameter size of 5 mm, fired clay pellets of the diameter
size of 8 mm, and unfired clay pellets of the diameter size of 15 mm.
The selected order of the adsorbents showed a high removal
efficiency for zinc (97.8%) and copper (81.5%) ions. These
efficiencies were better than those in the case of the already existing
mode adsorption. The obtained experimental data present a good
basis for the selection of an appropriate column fill, but further
testing is necessary in order to obtain more accurate results.
Abstract: Excessive vibration means increased wear, increased
repair efforts, bad product selection & quality and high energy
consumption. This may be sometimes experienced by cavitation or
suction/discharge recirculation which could occur only when net
positive suction head available NPSHA drops below the net positive
suction head required NPSHR. Cavitation can cause axial surging, if it
is excessive, will damage mechanical seals, bearings, possibly other
pump components frequently, and shorten the life of the impeller.
Efforts have been made to explain Suction Energy (SE), Specific
Speed (Ns), Suction Specific Speed (Nss), NPSHA, NPSHR & their
significance, possible reasons of cavitation /internal recirculation, its
diagnostics and remedial measures to arrest and prevent cavitation in
this paper. A case study is presented by the author highlighting that
the root cause of unwanted noise and vibration is due to cavitation,
caused by high specific speeds or inadequate net- positive suction
head available which results in damages to material surfaces of
impeller & suction bells and degradation of machine performance, its
capacity and efficiency too. Author strongly recommends revisiting
the technical specifications of CW pumps to provide sufficient NPSH
margin ratios >1.5, for future projects and Nss be limited to 8500 -
9000 for cavitation free operation.
Abstract: The study of the aerodynamics related to the
improvement in the acting of airplanes and automobiles with the
objective of being reduced the effect of the attrition of the air on
structures, providing larger speeds and smaller consumption of fuel.
The application of the knowledge of the aerodynamics not more
limits to the aeronautical and automobile industries. Therefore, this
research aims to design and construction of a wind tunnel to perform
aerodynamic analysis in bodies of cars, seeking greater efficiency.

selection is designed to be built, taking into account the various
existing configurations in which chose to build an open circuit tunnel,
due to the lower complexity of construction and installation;
operational simplicity and low cost. The guidelines for the project
were teaching: the layer that limits study and analyze specimens with
different geometries. For the variation of pressure in the test, section
of a switched gauge used a pitot tube. Thus, it was possible to obtain
quantitative and qualitative results, which proved to be satisfactory.
Abstract: In this corporate world, the technology of Web
services has grown rapidly and its significance for the development
of web based applications gradually rises over time. The success of
Business to Business integration rely on finding novel partners and
their services in a global business environment. However, the
selection of the most suitable Web service from the list of services
with the identical functionality is more vital. The satisfaction level of
the customer and the provider’s reputation of the Web service are
primarily depending on the range it reaches the customer’s
requirements. In most cases, the customer of the Web service feels
that he is spending for the service which is undelivered. This is
because the customer always thinks that the real functionality of the
web service is not reached. This will lead to change of the service
frequently. In this paper, a framework is proposed to evaluate the
Quality of Service (QoS) and its cost that makes the optimal
correlation between each other. In addition, this research work
proposes some management decision against the functional deviancy
of the web service that is guaranteed at time of selection.
Abstract: In the last decades, psychological tests have been
gaining in popularity as a method used for evaluating personnel, and
they bring consulting companies solid profits rising by up to 10%
each year. The market is offering a growing range of tools for the
assessment of personality. Tests are used in organizations mainly in
the recruitment and selection of staff. This paper is an attempt to
initially diagnose the state of the use of psychological tests in Polish
companies on the basis of empirical research.
Abstract: This paper focuses on the study of DC-to-DC
converters, which are suitable for low-voltage high-power
applications. The output voltages generated by renewable energy
sources such as photovoltaic arrays and fuel cell stacks are
generally low and required to be increased to high voltage levels.
Development of DC-to-DC converters, which provide high step-up
voltage conversion ratios with high efficiencies and low voltage
stresses, is one of the main issues in the development of renewable
energy systems. A procedure for three converters−conventional
DC-to-DC converter, interleaved boost converter, and isolated flyback
based converter, is illustrated for a given set of specifications. The
selection among the converters for the given application is based on
the voltage conversion ratio, efficiency, and voltage stresses.
