Abstract: Improving added value and productivity of services entails improving both value-in-exchange and value-in-use. Value-in-use is realized by value co-creation, where providers and receivers create value together. In higher education services, value-in-use comes from learners achieving learning outcomes (e.g., knowledge and skills) that are consistent with their learning goals. To enhance the learning outcomes of a learner, it is necessary to enhance and utilize the abilities of the teacher along with the abilities of the learner. To do this, however, the learner and the teacher need to build a consensus about their respective roles. Teachers need to provide effective learning content; learners need to choose the appropriate learning strategies by using the learning content through consensus building. This makes consensus building an important factor in value co-creation. However, methods to build a consensus about their respective roles may not be clearly established, making such consensus difficult. In this paper, we propose some strategies for consensus building between a teacher and a learner in value co-creation. We focus on a teacher and learner co-design and propose an analysis method to clarify a collaborative design process to realize value co-creation. We then analyze some counseling data obtained from a university class. This counseling aimed to build a consensus for value-in-use, learning outcomes, and learning strategies between the teacher and the learner.
Abstract: As the number of fire accidents is gradually raising, many studies have been reported on evacuation. Previous studies have mostly focused on evaluating the safety of evacuation and the risk of fire in particular buildings. However, studies on effects of various parameters on evacuation have not been nearly done. Therefore, this paper aims at observing evacuation time under the effect of fire initiated location. In this study, evacuation simulations are performed on a 5-floor building located in Seoul, South Korea using the commercial program, Fire Dynamics Simulator with Evacuation (FDS+EVAC). Only the fourth and fifth floors are modeled with an assumption that fire starts in a room located on the fourth floor. The parameter for evacuation simulations is location of fire initiation to observe the evacuation time and safety. Results show that the location of fire initiation is closer to exit, the more time is taken to evacuate. The case having the nearest location of fire initiation to exit has the lowest ratio of successful occupants to the total occupants. In addition, for safety evaluation, the evacuation time calculated from computer simulation model is compared with the tolerable evacuation time according to code in Japan. As a result, all cases are completed within the tolerable evacuation time. This study allows predicting evacuation time under various conditions of fire and can be used to evaluate evacuation appropriateness and fire safety of building.
Abstract: Reinforced concrete (RC) shear wall system of residential buildings is popular in South Korea. RC walls are subjected to axial forces in common and the effect of axial forces on the strength loss of the fire damaged walls has not been investigated. This paper aims at investigating temperature distribution on fire damaged concrete walls having different axial loads. In the experiments, a variable of specimens is axial force ratio. RC walls are fabricated with 150mm of wall thicknesses, 750mm of lengths and 1,300mm of heights having concrete strength of 24MPa. After curing, specimens are heated on one surface with ISO-834 standard time-temperature curve for 2 hours and temperature distributions during the test are measured using thermocouples inside the walls. The experimental results show that the temperature of the RC walls exposed to fire increases as axial force ratio increases. To verify the experiments, finite element (FE) models are generated for coupled temperature-structure analyses. The analytical results of thermal behaviors are in good agreement with the experimental results. The predicted displacement of the walls decreases when the axial force increases.
Abstract: To increase the quality of learning, teacher and learner need mutual effort for realization of educational value. For this purpose, we need to manage the co-creational education among teacher and learners. In this research, we try to find a feature of co-creational education. To be more precise, we analyzed learners’ reports by natural language processing, and extract some features that describe the state of the co-creational education.
Abstract: Cavities are frequently found beneath conduits on pile
foundations in old embankments. Cavity reduces seepage length
significantly and consequently causes piping failure of embankments.
Case studies of embankment failures indicate that the relative
settlement between ground and pile supported-concrete conduit was
the main reason of the cavity. In this paper, an attempt to simulate the
cavity-induced piping failure mechanism was made using finite
element numerical method. Piping potential is examined by carrying
out parametric study for influencing factors such as cavity length,
water level, and flow conditions. The concentration of hydraulic
gradient adjacent to cavity was found. It is found that the hydraulic
gradient close to the cavity exceeds considerably the critical hydraulic
gradient causing piping. Piping failure potential due to the existence of
cavity is evaluated and contour map for the potential risk of an
embankment for piping failure is proposed.
Abstract: This article considers the problems of economic growth
and Russian energy strategy. Also in this paper, the issues related to
the economic growth prospects of Russian were discussed. Russian
energy strategy without standing Russia`s stature in global energy
markets, at the current production and extraction rates, will not be able
to sustain its own production as well as fulfil its energy strategy.
Indeed, Russia’s energy sector suffers from a chronic lack of
investments which are necessary to modernize its energy supply
system. In recent years, especially since the international financial
crisis, Russia-EU energy cooperation has made substantive progress.
Recently the break-through progress has been made, resulting mainly
from long-term contributing factors between the countries and recent
international economic and political situation changes. Analytical
material presented in the article is intended for a more detailed or
substantive analysis related to foreign economic relations of the
countries and Russia as well.
Abstract: Effect of Zn addition on the microstructure and
mechanical properties of Mg-Zn alloys with Zn contents from 6 to 10
weight percent was investigated in this study. Through calculation of
phase equilibria of Mg-Zn alloys, carried out by using FactSage® and
FTLite database, solution treatment temperature was decided as
temperatures from 300 to 400oC, where supersaturated solid solution
can be obtained. Solid solution treatment of Mg-Zn alloys was
successfully conducted at 380oC and supersaturated microstructure
with all beta phase resolved into matrix was obtained. After solution
treatment, hot rolling was successfully conducted by reduction of
60%. Compression and tension tests were carried out at room
temperature on the samples as-cast, solution treated, hot-rolled and
recrystallized after rolling. After solid solution treatment, each alloy
was annealed at temperatures of 180 and 200oC for time intervals from
1 min to 48 hrs and hardness of each condition was measured by
micro-Vickers method. Peak aging conditions were deduced as at the
temperature of 200oC for 10 hrs. By addition of Zn by 10 weight
percent, hardness and strength were enhanced.
Abstract: Fe-2%Mn-0.5%Si-0.2C steel was welded and corroded
at 600, 700 and 800oC for 20 h in 1 atm of N2/H2S/H2O-mixed gas in
order to characterize the high-temperature corrosion behavior of the
welded joint. Corrosion proceeded fast and almost linearly. It
increased with an increase in the corrosion temperature. H2S formed
FeS owing to sulfur released from H2S. The scales were fragile and
nonadherent.
Abstract: In this paper, we present the design of the
super-ellipsoidal potential function (SEPF), that can be used for
autonomous collision avoidance of an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV)
in a 3-dimensional space. In the design of SEPF, we have the
full control over the shape and size of the potential function. In
particular, we can adjust the length, width, height, and the amount
of flattening at the tips of the potential function so that the collision
avoidance motion vector generated from the potential function can
be adjusted accordingly. Based on the idea of the SEPF, we also
propose an approach for the local autonomy of a UAV for its collision
avoidance when the UAV is teleoperated by a human operator. In
our proposed approach, a teleoperated UAV can not only avoid
collision autonomously with other surrounding objects but also track
the operator’s control input as closely as possible. As a result, an
operator can always be in control of the UAV for his/her high-level
guidance and navigation task without worrying too much about
the UAVs collision avoidance while it is being teleoperated. The
effectiveness of the proposed approach is demonstrated through a
human-in-the-loop simulation of quadrotor UAV teleoperation using
virtual robot experimentation platform (v-rep) and Matlab programs.
Abstract: With the strengthened regulation on the mandatory use
of recycled aggregate, development of construction materials using
recycled aggregate has recently increased. This study aimed to secure
the performance of asphalt concrete mixture by developing
recycled-modified asphalt using recycled basalt aggregate from the
Jeju area. The strength of the basalt aggregate from the Jeju area used
in this study was similar to that of general aggregate, while the specific
surface area was larger due to the development of pores. Modified
asphalt was developed using a general aggregate-recycled aggregate
ratio of 7:3, and the results indicated that the Marshall stability
increased by 27% compared to that of asphalt concrete mixture using
only general aggregate, and the flow values showed similar levels.
Also, the indirect tensile strength increased by 79%, and the toughness
increased by more than 100%. In addition, the TSR for examining
moisture resistance was 0.95 indicating that the reduction in the
indirect tensile strength due to moisture was very low (5% level), and
the developed recycled-modified asphalt could satisfy all the quality
standards of asphalt concrete mixture.
Abstract: This paper proposes a method of learning topics for
broadcasting contents. There are two kinds of texts related to
broadcasting contents. One is a broadcasting script, which is a series of
texts including directions and dialogues. The other is blogposts, which
possesses relatively abstracted contents, stories, and diverse
information of broadcasting contents. Although two texts range over
similar broadcasting contents, words in blogposts and broadcasting
script are different. When unseen words appear, it needs a method to
reflect to existing topic. In this paper, we introduce a semantic
vocabulary expansion method to reflect unseen words. We expand
topics of the broadcasting script by incorporating the words in
blogposts. Each word in blogposts is added to the most semantically
correlated topics. We use word2vec to get the semantic correlation
between words in blogposts and topics of scripts. The vocabularies of
topics are updated and then posterior inference is performed to
rearrange the topics. In experiments, we verified that the proposed
method can discover more salient topics for broadcasting contents.
Abstract: Geological structure formed by volcanic activities shows polymorphic characteristics due to repeated cooling and hardening of lava. The Jeju region is showing polymorphic characteristics in which clinker layers are irregularly distributed along with vesicular basalt due to volcanic activities. Accordingly, resident damages and environmental disputes occur frequently in the Jeju region due to blasting. The purpose of this study is to develop a blast vibration equation considering the polymorphic characteristics of basaltic ground in Jeju. The blast vibration equation consists of a functional formula of the blasting vibration constant K that changes according to ground characteristics, and attenuation index n. The case study results in Jeju showed that if there are clinker layers, attenuation index n showed a distribution of -1.32~-1.81, whereas if there are no clinker layers, n was -2.79. Moreover, if there are no clinker layers, the frequency of blast vibration showed a high frequency band from 30Hz to 100Hz, while in rocks with clinker layers it showed a low frequency band from 10Hz to 20Hz.
Abstract: Scripts are one of the basic text resources to understand
broadcasting contents. Topic modeling is the method to get the
summary of the broadcasting contents from its scripts. Generally,
scripts represent contents descriptively with directions and speeches,
and provide scene segments that can be seen as semantic units.
Therefore, a script can be topic modeled by treating a scene segment
as a document. Because scene segments consist of speeches mainly,
however, relatively small co-occurrences among words in the scene
segments are observed. This causes inevitably the bad quality of
topics by statistical learning method. To tackle this problem, we
propose a method to improve topic quality with additional word
co-occurrence information obtained using scene similarities. The
main idea of improving topic quality is that the information that
two or more texts are topically related can be useful to learn high
quality of topics. In addition, more accurate topical representations
lead to get information more accurate whether two texts are related
or not. In this paper, we regard two scene segments are related
if their topical similarity is high enough. We also consider that
words are co-occurred if they are in topically related scene segments
together. By iteratively inferring topics and determining semantically
neighborhood scene segments, we draw a topic space represents
broadcasting contents well. In the experiments, we showed the
proposed method generates a higher quality of topics from Korean
drama scripts than the baselines.
Abstract: Manufacturing process has been considered as one of
the most important activity in business process. It correlates with
productivity and quality of the product so industries could fulfill
customer’s demand. With the increasing demand from customer,
industries must improve their manufacturing ability such as shorten
lead-time and reduce wastes on their process. Lean manufacturing
has been considered as one of the tools to waste elimination in
manufacturing or service industry. Workforce development is one
practice in lean manufacturing that can reduce waste generated from
operator such as waste of unnecessary motion. Anthropometric
approach is proposed to determine the recommended measurement in
operator’s work area. The method will get some dimensions from
Indonesia people that related to piston workstation. The result from
this research can be obtained new design for the work area
considering ergonomic aspect.
Abstract: Background modeling and subtraction in video
analysis has been widely used as an effective method for moving
objects detection in many computer vision applications. Recently, a
large number of approaches have been developed to tackle different
types of challenges in this field. However, the dynamic background
and illumination variations are the most frequently occurred problems
in the practical situation. This paper presents a favorable two-layer
model based on codebook algorithm incorporated with local binary
pattern (LBP) texture measure, targeted for handling dynamic
background and illumination variation problems. More specifically,
the first layer is designed by block-based codebook combining with
LBP histogram and mean value of each RGB color channel. Because
of the invariance of the LBP features with respect to monotonic
gray-scale changes, this layer can produce block wise detection results
with considerable tolerance of illumination variations. The pixel-based
codebook is employed to reinforce the precision from the output of the
first layer which is to eliminate false positives further. As a result, the
proposed approach can greatly promote the accuracy under the
circumstances of dynamic background and illumination changes.
Experimental results on several popular background subtraction
datasets demonstrate very competitive performance compared to
previous models.
Abstract: The major environmental risk of soil pollution is the
contamination of groundwater by infiltration of organic and inorganic
pollutants which can cause a serious menace. To prevent this risk and
to protect the groundwater, we proceeded in this study to test the
reliability of a biosolid as barrier to prevent the migration of very
dangerous pollutants as ‘Cadmium’ through the different soil layers. In this study, we tried to highlight the effect of several parameters
such as: turbidity (different cycle of Hydration/Dehydration),
rainfall, effect of initial Cd(II) concentration and the type of soil.
These parameters allow us to find the most effective manner to
integrate this barrier in the soil. From the results obtained, we found a
significant effect of the barrier. Indeed, the recorded passing
quantities are lowest for the highest rainfall; we noted also that the
barrier has a better affinity towards higher concentrations; the most
retained amounts of cadmium has been in the top layer of the two
types of soil tested, while the lowest amounts of cadmium are
recorded in the bottom layers of soils.
Abstract: Fluctuations of Schottky diode parameters in a
structure of the mixer are investigated. These fluctuations are
manifested in two ways. At the first, they lead to fluctuations in the
transfer factor that is lead to the amplitude fluctuations in the signal
of intermediate frequency. On the basis of the measurement data of
1/f noise of the diode at forward current, the estimation of a spectrum
of relative fluctuations in transfer factor of the mixer is executed.
Current dependence of the spectrum of relative fluctuations in
transfer factor of the mixer and dependence of the spectrum of
relative fluctuations in transfer factor of the mixer on the amplitude
of the heterodyne signal are investigated. At the second, fluctuations
in parameters of the diode lead to occurrence of 1/f noise in the
output signal of the mixer. This noise limits the sensitivity of the
mixer to the value of received signal.
Abstract: Small-size and low-power sensors with sensing, signal
processing and wireless communication capabilities is suitable for the
wireless sensor networks. Due to the limited resources and battery
constraints, complex routing algorithms used for the ad-hoc networks
cannot be employed in sensor networks. In this paper, we propose
node-disjoint multi-path hexagon-based routing algorithms in wireless
sensor networks. We suggest the details of the algorithm and compare
it with other works. Simulation results show that the proposed scheme
achieves better performance in terms of efficiency and message
delivery ratio.
Abstract: In this paper, we introduce a flexible box erecting
machine (BEM) that swiftly and automatically transforms cardboard
into a three dimensional box. Recently, the parcel service and
home-shopping industries have grown rapidly, and there is an
increasing need for various box types to ship various products.
However, workers cannot fold thousands of boxes manually in a day.
As such, automatic BEMs are garnering greater attention. This study
takes equipment operation into consideration as well as mechanical
improvements in order to design a BEM that is able to outperform its
conventional counterparts. We analyzed six dispatching rules – First In
First Out (FIFO), Shortest Processing Time (SPT), Earliest Due Date
(EDD), Setup Avoidance, EDD + SPT, and EDD + Setup Avoidance –
to determine which one was most suitable for BEM operation.
Consequently, SPT and Setup Avoidance were found to be the most
critical rules, followed by EDD + Setup Avoidance, EDD + SPT,
EDD, and FIFO. This hierarchy was valid for both our conventional
BEM and our new flexible BEM from the viewpoint of processing
time. We believe that this research can contribute to flexible BEM
management, which has the potential to increase productivity and
convenience.
Abstract: Since the advances in digital imaging technologies have led to
development of high quality digital devices, there are a lot of illegal copies
of copyrighted video content on the Internet. Also, unauthorized editing is
occurred frequently. Thus, we propose an editing prevention technique for
high-quality (HQ) video that can prevent these illegally edited copies from
spreading out. The proposed technique is applied spatial and temporal gradient
methods to improve the fidelity and detection performance. Also, the scheme
duplicates the embedding signal temporally to alleviate the signal reduction
caused by geometric and signal-processing distortions. Experimental results
show that the proposed scheme achieves better performance than previously
proposed schemes and it has high fidelity. The proposed scheme can be used
in unauthorized access prevention method of visual communication or traitor
tracking applications which need fast detection process to prevent illegally
edited video content from spreading out.
