Abstract: This paper deals with a high-order accurate Runge
Kutta Discontinuous Galerkin (RKDG) method for the numerical
solution of the wave equation, which is one of the simple case of a
linear hyperbolic partial differential equation. Nodal DG method is
used for a finite element space discretization in 'x' by discontinuous
approximations. This method combines mainly two key ideas which
are based on the finite volume and finite element methods. The
physics of wave propagation being accounted for by means of
Riemann problems and accuracy is obtained by means of high-order
polynomial approximations within the elements. High order accurate
Low Storage Explicit Runge Kutta (LSERK) method is used for
temporal discretization in 't' that allows the method to be nonlinearly
stable regardless of its accuracy. The resulting RKDG
methods are stable and high-order accurate. The L1 ,L2 and L∞ error
norm analysis shows that the scheme is highly accurate and effective.
Hence, the method is well suited to achieve high order accurate
solution for the scalar wave equation and other hyperbolic equations.
Abstract: The aim of this study was to test whether the Attention
Networks Test (ANT) showed temporal decrements in performance.
Vigilance tasks typically show such decrements, which may reflect
impairments in executive control resulting from cognitive fatigue.
The ANT assesses executive control, as well as alerting and
orienting. Thus, it was hypothesized that ANT executive control
would deteriorate over time. Manipulations including task condition
(trial composition) and masking were included in the experimental
design in an attempt to increase performance decrements. However,
results showed that there is no temporal decrement on the ANT. The
roles of task demands, cognitive fatigue and participant motivation in
producing this result are discussed. The ANT may not be an effective
tool for investigating temporal decrement in attention.
Abstract: This paper presents a distributed intrusion
detection system IDS, based on the concept of specialized
distributed agents community representing agents with the
same purpose for detecting distributed attacks. The semantic of
intrusion events occurring in a predetermined network has been
defined. The correlation rules referring the process which our
proposed IDS combines the captured events that is distributed
both spatially and temporally. And then the proposed IDS tries
to extract significant and broad patterns for set of well-known
attacks. The primary goal of our work is to provide intrusion
detection and real-time prevention capability against insider
attacks in distributed and fully automated environments.
Abstract: This paper investigates the problem of tracking spa¬tiotemporal changes of a satellite image through the use of Knowledge Discovery in Database (KDD). The purpose of this study is to help a given user effectively discover interesting knowledge and then build prediction and decision models. Unfortunately, the KDD process for spatiotemporal data is always marked by several types of imperfections. In our paper, we take these imperfections into consideration in order to provide more accurate decisions. To achieve this objective, different KDD methods are used to discover knowledge in satellite image databases. Each method presents a different point of view of spatiotemporal evolution of a query model (which represents an extracted object from a satellite image). In order to combine these methods, we use the evidence fusion theory which considerably improves the spatiotemporal knowledge discovery process and increases our belief in the spatiotemporal model change. Experimental results of satellite images representing the region of Auckland in New Zealand depict the improvement in the overall change detection as compared to using classical methods.
Abstract: Graph transformation has recently become more and
more popular as a general visual modeling language to formally state
the dynamic semantics of the designed models. Especially, it is a
very natural formalism for languages which basically are graph (e.g.
UML). Using this technique, we present a highly understandable yet
precise approach to formally model and analyze the behavioral
semantics of UML 2.0 Activity diagrams. In our proposal, AGG is
used to design Activities, then using our previous approach to model
checking graph transformation systems, designers can verify and
analyze designed Activity diagrams by checking the interesting
properties as combination of graph rules and LTL (Linear Temporal
Logic) formulas on the Activities.
Abstract: A theoretical approach to radiation damage evolution
is developed. Stable temporal behavior taking place in solids under
irradiation are examined as phenomena of self-organization in nonequilibrium
systems.
Experimental effects of temporal self-organization in solids under
irradiation are reviewed. Their essential common properties and
features are highlighted and analyzed.
Dynamical model to describe development of self-oscillation of
density of point defects under stationary irradiation is proposed. The
emphasis is the nonlinear couplings between rate of annealing and
density of defects that determine the kind and parameters of an
arising self-oscillation.
The field of parameters (defect generation rate and environment
temperature) at which self-oscillations develop is found. Bifurcation
curve and self-oscillation period near it is obtained.
Abstract: Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) comprises of sensor
nodes which are designed to sense the environment, transmit sensed
data back to the base station via multi-hop routing to reconstruct
physical phenomena. Since physical phenomena exists significant
overlaps between temporal redundancy and spatial redundancy, it is
necessary to use Redundancy Suppression Algorithms (RSA) for sensor
node to lower energy consumption by reducing the transmission
of redundancy. A conventional algorithm of RSAs is threshold-based
RSA, which sets threshold to suppress redundant data. Although
many temporal and spatial RSAs are proposed, temporal-spatial RSA
are seldom to be proposed because it is difficult to determine when
to utilize temporal or spatial RSAs. In this paper, we proposed a
novel temporal-spatial redundancy suppression algorithm, Codebookbase
Redundancy Suppression Mechanism (CRSM). CRSM adopts
vector quantization to generate a codebook, which is easily used to
implement temporal-spatial RSA. CRSM not only achieves power
saving and reliability for WSN, but also provides the predictability
of network lifetime. Simulation result shows that the network lifetime
of CRSM outperforms at least 23% of that of other RSAs.
Abstract: The aim of this research is to develop a fast and
reliable surveillance system based on a personal digital assistant
(PDA) device. This is to extend the capability of the device to detect
moving objects which is already available in personal computers.
Secondly, to compare the performance between Background
subtraction (BS) and Temporal Frame Differencing (TFD) techniques
for PDA platform as to which is more suitable. In order to reduce
noise and to prepare frames for the moving object detection part,
each frame is first converted to a gray-scale representation and then
smoothed using a Gaussian low pass filter. Two moving object
detection schemes i.e., BS and TFD have been analyzed. The
background frame is updated by using Infinite Impulse Response
(IIR) filter so that the background frame is adapted to the varying
illuminate conditions and geometry settings. In order to reduce the
effect of noise pixels resulting from frame differencing
morphological filters erosion and dilation are applied. In this
research, it has been found that TFD technique is more suitable for
motion detection purpose than the BS in term of speed. On average
TFD is approximately 170 ms faster than the BS technique
Abstract: This paper represents an investigation on how exploiting multiple transmit antennas by OFDM based wireless LAN subscribers can mitigate physical layer error rate. Then by comparing the Wireless LANs that utilize spatial diversity techniques with the conventional ones it will reveal how PHY and TCP throughputs behaviors are ameliorated. In the next step it will assess the same issues based on a cellular context operation which is mainly introduced as an innovated solution that beside a multi cell operation scenario benefits spatio-temporal signaling schemes as well. Presented simulations will shed light on the improved performance of the wide range and high quality wireless LAN services provided by the proposed approach.
Abstract: Mobile adhoc network (MANET) is a collection of
mobile devices which form a communication network with no preexisting
wiring or infrastructure. Multiple routing protocols have
been developed for MANETs. As MANETs gain popularity, their
need to support real time applications is growing as well. Such
applications have stringent quality of service (QoS) requirements
such as throughput, end-to-end delay, and energy. Due to dynamic
topology and bandwidth constraint supporting QoS is a challenging
task. QoS aware routing is an important building block for QoS
support. The primary goal of the QoS aware protocol is to determine
the path from source to destination that satisfies the QoS
requirements. This paper proposes a new energy and delay aware
protocol called energy and delay aware TORA (EDTORA) based on
extension of Temporally Ordered Routing Protocol (TORA).Energy
and delay verifications of query packet have been done in each node.
Simulation results show that the proposed protocol has a higher
performance than TORA in terms of network lifetime, packet
delivery ratio and end-to-end delay.
Abstract: Environmental decision making, particularly about
hazardous waste management, is inherently exposed to a high
potential conflict, principally because of the trade-off between sociopolitical,
environmental, health and economic factors. The need to
plan complex contexts has led to an increasing request for decision
analytic techniques as support for the decision process. In this work,
alternative systems of asbestos-containing waste management
(ACW) in Puglia (Southern Italy) were explored by a multi-criteria
decision analysis. In particular, through Analytic Hierarchy Process
five alternatives management have been compared and ranked
according to their performance and efficiency, taking into account
environmental, health and socio-economic aspects. A separated
valuation has been performed for different temporal scale. For short
period results showed a narrow deviation between the disposal
alternatives “mono-material landfill in public quarry" and “dedicate
cells in existing landfill", with the best performance of the first one.
While for long period “treatment plant to eliminate hazard from
asbestos-containing waste" was prevalent, although high energy
demand required to achieve the change of crystalline structure. A
comparison with results from a participative approach in valuation
process might be considered as future development of method
application to ACW management.
Abstract: Recognizing human action from videos is an active
field of research in computer vision and pattern recognition. Human
activity recognition has many potential applications such as video
surveillance, human machine interaction, sport videos retrieval and
robot navigation. Actually, local descriptors and bag of visuals words
models achieve state-of-the-art performance for human action
recognition. The main challenge in features description is how to
represent efficiently the local motion information. Most of the
previous works focus on the extension of 2D local descriptors on 3D
ones to describe local information around every interest point. In this
paper, we propose a new spatio-temporal descriptor based on a spacetime
description of moving points. Our description is focused on an
Accordion representation of video which is well-suited to recognize
human action from 2D local descriptors without the need to 3D
extensions. We use the bag of words approach to represent videos.
We quantify 2D local descriptor describing both temporal and spatial
features with a good compromise between computational complexity
and action recognition rates. We have reached impressive results on
publicly available action data set
Abstract: This study investigated the relationship between urban
and rural ozone concentrations and quantified the extent to which
ambient rural conditions and the concentrations of other pollutants
can be used to predict urban ozone concentrations. The study
describes the variations of ozone in weekday and weekends as well as
the daily maximum recorded at selected monitoring stations. The
results showed that Putrajaya station had the highest concentrations
of O3 on weekend due the titration of NO during the weekday.
Additionally, Jerantut had the lowest average concentration with a
reading value high on Wednesdays. The comparisons of average and
maximum concentrations of ozone for the three stations showed that
the strongest significant correlation is recorded in Jerantut station
with the value R2= 0.769. Ozone concentrations originating from a
neighbouring urban site form a better predictor to the urban ozone
concentrations than widespread rural ozone at some levels of
temporal averaging. It is found that in urban and rural of Malaysian
peninsular, the concentration of ozone depends on the concentration
of NOx and seasonal meteorological factors. The HYSPLIT Model
(the northeast monsoon) showed that the wind direction can also
influence the concentration of ozone in the atmosphere in the studied
areas.
Abstract: One very interesting field of research in Pattern Recognition that has gained much attention in recent times is Gesture Recognition. In this paper, we consider a form of dynamic hand gestures that are characterized by total movement of the hand (arm) in space. For these types of gestures, the shape of the hand (palm) during gesturing does not bear any significance. In our work, we propose a model-based method for tracking hand motion in space, thereby estimating the hand motion trajectory. We employ the dynamic time warping (DTW) algorithm for time alignment and normalization of spatio-temporal variations that exist among samples belonging to the same gesture class. During training, one template trajectory and one prototype feature vector are generated for every gesture class. Features used in our work include some static and dynamic motion trajectory features. Recognition is accomplished in two stages. In the first stage, all unlikely gesture classes are eliminated by comparing the input gesture trajectory to all the template trajectories. In the next stage, feature vector extracted from the input gesture is compared to all the class prototype feature vectors using a distance classifier. Experimental results demonstrate that our proposed trajectory estimator and classifier is suitable for Human Computer Interaction (HCI) platform.
Abstract: In this paper, we proposed the robust mobile object
detection method for light effect in the night street image block based
updating reference background model using block state analysis.
Experiment image is acquired sequence color video from steady
camera. When suddenly appeared artificial illumination, reference
background model update this information such as street light, sign
light. Generally natural illumination is change by temporal, but
artificial illumination is suddenly appearance. So in this paper for
exactly detect artificial illumination have 2 state process. First process
is compare difference between current image and reference
background by block based, it can know changed blocks. Second
process is difference between current image-s edge map and reference
background image-s edge map, it possible to estimate illumination at
any block. This information is possible to exactly detect object,
artificial illumination and it was generating reference background
more clearly. Block is classified by block-state analysis. Block-state
has a 4 state (i.e. transient, stationary, background, artificial
illumination). Fig. 1 is show characteristic of block-state respectively
[1]. Experimental results show that the presented approach works well
in the presence of illumination variance.
Abstract: The proliferation of user-generated content (UGC) results in huge opportunities to explore event patterns. However, existing event recommendation systems primarily focus on advanced information technology users. Little work has been done to address novice and low-literacy users. The next billion users providing and consuming UGC are likely to include communities from developing countries who are ready to use affordable technologies for subsistence goals. Therefore, we propose a design framework for providing event recommendations to address the needs of such users. Grounded in information integration theory (IIT), our framework advocates that effective event recommendation is supported by systems capable of (1) reliable information gathering through structured user input, (2) accurate sense making through spatial-temporal analytics, and (3) intuitive information dissemination through interactive visualization techniques. A mobile pest management application is developed as an instantiation of the design framework. Our preliminary study suggests a set of design principles for novice and low-literacy users.
Abstract: We apply a particle tracking technique to track the motion of individual pathogenic Leptospira. We observe and capture images of motile Leptospira by means of CCD and darkfield microscope. Image processing, statistical theories and simulations are used for data analysis. Based on trajectory patterns, mean square displacement, and power spectral density characteristics, we found that the motion modes are most likely to be directed motion mode (70%) and the rest are either normal diffusion or unidentified mode. Our findings may support the fact that why leptospires are very well efficient toward targeting internal tissues as a result of increase in virulence factor.
Abstract: Modeling and simulation of biochemical reactions is of great interest in the context of system biology. The central dogma of this re-emerging area states that it is system dynamics and organizing principles of complex biological phenomena that give rise to functioning and function of cells. Cell functions, such as growth, division, differentiation and apoptosis are temporal processes, that can be understood if they are treated as dynamic systems. System biology focuses on an understanding of functional activity from a system-wide perspective and, consequently, it is defined by two hey questions: (i) how do the components within a cell interact, so as to bring about its structure and functioning? (ii) How do cells interact, so as to develop and maintain higher levels of organization and functions? In recent years, wet-lab biologists embraced mathematical modeling and simulation as two essential means toward answering the above questions. The credo of dynamics system theory is that the behavior of a biological system is given by the temporal evolution of its state. Our understanding of the time behavior of a biological system can be measured by the extent to which a simulation mimics the real behavior of that system. Deviations of a simulation indicate either limitations or errors in our knowledge. The aim of this paper is to summarize and review the main conceptual frameworks in which models of biochemical networks can be developed. In particular, we review the stochastic molecular modelling approaches, by reporting the principal conceptualizations suggested by A. A. Markov, P. Langevin, A. Fokker, M. Planck, D. T. Gillespie, N. G. van Kampfen, and recently by D. Wilkinson, O. Wolkenhauer, P. S. Jöberg and by the author.
Abstract: Variational methods for optical flow estimation are
known for their excellent performance. The method proposed by Brox
et al. [5] exemplifies the strength of that framework. It combines
several concepts into single energy functional that is then minimized
according to clear numerical procedure. In this paper we propose
a modification of that algorithm starting from the spatiotemporal
gradient constancy assumption. The numerical scheme allows to
establish the connection between our model and the CLG(H) method
introduced in [18]. Experimental evaluation carried out on synthetic
sequences shows the significant superiority of the spatial variant of
the proposed method. The comparison between methods for the realworld
sequence is also enclosed.
Abstract: Sudoku is a kind of logic puzzles. Each puzzle consists
of a board, which is a 9×9 cells, divided into nine 3×3 subblocks
and a set of numbers from 1 to 9. The aim of this puzzle is to
fill in every cell of the board with a number from 1 to 9 such
that in every row, every column, and every subblock contains each
number exactly one. Sudoku puzzles belong to combinatorial problem
(NP complete). Sudoku puzzles can be solved by using a variety of
techniques/algorithms such as genetic algorithms, heuristics, integer
programming, and so on. In this paper, we propose a new approach for
solving Sudoku which is by modelling them as block-world problems.
In block-world problems, there are a number of boxes on the table
with a particular order or arrangement. The objective of this problem
is to change this arrangement into the targeted arrangement with the
help of two types of robots. In this paper, we present three models
for Sudoku. We modellized Sudoku as parameterized multi-agent
systems. A parameterized multi-agent system is a multi-agent system
which consists of several uniform/similar agents and the number of
the agents in the system is stated as the parameter of this system. We
use Temporal Logic of Actions (TLA) for formalizing our models.
