Abstract: In the current age, retrieval of relevant information
from massive amount of data is a challenging job. Over the years,
precise and relevant retrieval of information has attained high
significance. There is a growing need in the market to build systems,
which can retrieve multimedia information that precisely meets the
user's current needs. In this paper, we have introduced a framework
for refining query results before showing it to the user, using ambient
intelligence, user profile, group profile, user location, time, day, user
device type and extracted features. A prototypic tool was also
developed to demonstrate the efficiency of the proposed approach.
Abstract: Nanomaterials have attracted considerable attention
during the last two decades, due to their unusual electrical, mechanical
and other physical properties as compared with their bulky
counterparts. The mechanical properties of nanostructured materials
show strong size dependency, which has been explained within the
framework of continuum mechanics by including the effects of surface
stress. The size-dependent deformations of two-dimensional
nanosized structures with surface effects are investigated in the paper
by the finite element method. Truss element is used to evaluate the
contribution of surface stress to the total potential energy and the
Gurtin and Murdoch surface stress model is implemented with
ANSYS through its user programmable features. The proposed
approach is used to investigate size-dependent stress concentration
around a nanosized circular hole and the size-dependent effective
moduli of nanoporous materials. Numerical results are compared with
available analytical results to validate the proposed modeling
approach.
Abstract: This study analyzes the effect of discretization on
classification of datasets including continuous valued features. Six
datasets from UCI which containing continuous valued features are
discretized with entropy-based discretization method. The
performance improvement between the dataset with original features
and the dataset with discretized features is compared with k-nearest
neighbors, Naive Bayes, C4.5 and CN2 data mining classification
algorithms. As the result the classification accuracies of the six
datasets are improved averagely by 1.71% to 12.31%.
Abstract: Computer worm detection is commonly performed by
antivirus software tools that rely on prior explicit knowledge of the
worm-s code (detection based on code signatures). We present an
approach for detection of the presence of computer worms based on
Artificial Neural Networks (ANN) using the computer's behavioral
measures. Identification of significant features, which describe the
activity of a worm within a host, is commonly acquired from security
experts. We suggest acquiring these features by applying feature
selection methods. We compare three different feature selection
techniques for the dimensionality reduction and identification of the
most prominent features to capture efficiently the computer behavior
in the context of worm activity. Additionally, we explore three
different temporal representation techniques for the most prominent
features. In order to evaluate the different techniques, several
computers were infected with five different worms and 323 different
features of the infected computers were measured. We evaluated
each technique by preprocessing the dataset according to each one
and training the ANN model with the preprocessed data. We then
evaluated the ability of the model to detect the presence of a new
computer worm, in particular, during heavy user activity on the
infected computers.
Abstract: Currently, web usage make a huge data from a lot of
user attention. In general, proxy server is a system to support web
usage from user and can manage system by using hit rates. This
research tries to improve hit rates in proxy system by applying data
mining technique. The data set are collected from proxy servers in the
university and are investigated relationship based on several features.
The model is used to predict the future access websites. Association
rule technique is applied to get the relation among Date, Time, Main
Group web, Sub Group web, and Domain name for created model.
The results showed that this technique can predict web content for the
next day, moreover the future accesses of websites increased from
38.15% to 85.57 %.
This model can predict web page access which tends to increase
the efficient of proxy servers as a result. In additional, the
performance of internet access will be improved and help to reduce
traffic in networks.
Abstract: The number of features required to represent an image
can be very huge. Using all available features to recognize objects
can suffer from curse dimensionality. Feature selection and
extraction is the pre-processing step of image mining. Main issues in
analyzing images is the effective identification of features and
another one is extracting them. The mining problem that has been
focused is the grouping of features for different shapes. Experiments
have been conducted by using shape outline as the features. Shape
outline readings are put through normalization and dimensionality
reduction process using an eigenvector based method to produce a
new set of readings. After this pre-processing step data will be
grouped through their shapes. Through statistical analysis, these
readings together with peak measures a robust classification and
recognition process is achieved. Tests showed that the suggested
methods are able to automatically recognize objects through their
shapes. Finally, experiments also demonstrate the system invariance
to rotation, translation, scale, reflection and to a small degree of
distortion.
Abstract: Studies in neuroscience suggest that both global and
local feature information are crucial for perception and recognition of
faces. It is widely believed that local feature is less sensitive to
variations caused by illumination, expression and illumination. In
this paper, we target at designing and learning local features for face
recognition. We designed three types of local features. They are
semi-global feature, local patch feature and tangent shape feature.
The designing of semi-global feature aims at taking advantage of
global-like feature and meanwhile avoiding suppressing AdaBoost
algorithm in boosting weak classifies established from small local
patches. The designing of local patch feature targets at automatically
selecting discriminative features, and is thus different with traditional
ways, in which local patches are usually selected manually to cover
the salient facial components. Also, shape feature is considered in
this paper for frontal view face recognition. These features are
selected and combined under the framework of boosting algorithm
and cascade structure. The experimental results demonstrate that the
proposed approach outperforms the standard eigenface method and
Bayesian method. Moreover, the selected local features and
observations in the experiments are enlightening to researches in
local feature design in face recognition.
Abstract: Control chart pattern recognition is one of the most important tools to identify the process state in statistical process control. The abnormal process state could be classified by the recognition of unnatural patterns that arise from assignable causes. In this study, a wavelet based neural network approach is proposed for the recognition of control chart patterns that have various characteristics. The procedure of proposed control chart pattern recognizer comprises three stages. First, multi-resolution wavelet analysis is used to generate time-shape and time-frequency coefficients that have detail information about the patterns. Second, distance based features are extracted by a bi-directional Kohonen network to make reduced and robust information. Third, a back-propagation network classifier is trained by these features. The accuracy of the proposed method is shown by the performance evaluation with numerical results.
Abstract: In this article, a method has been offered to classify
normal and defective tiles using wavelet transform and artificial
neural networks. The proposed algorithm calculates max and min
medians as well as the standard deviation and average of detail
images obtained from wavelet filters, then comes by feature vectors
and attempts to classify the given tile using a Perceptron neural
network with a single hidden layer. In this study along with the
proposal of using median of optimum points as the basic feature and
its comparison with the rest of the statistical features in the wavelet
field, the relational advantages of Haar wavelet is investigated. This
method has been experimented on a number of various tile designs
and in average, it has been valid for over 90% of the cases. Amongst
the other advantages, high speed and low calculating load are
prominent.
Abstract: The paper makes part from a complex research project
on Romanian Grey Steppe, a unique breed in terms of biological and
cultural-historical importance, on the verge of extinction and which
has been included in a preservation programme of genetic resources
from Romania. The study of genetic polymorphism of protean
fractions, especially kappa-casein, and the genotype relations of
these lactoproteins with some quantitative and qualitative features of
milk yield represents a current theme and a novelty for this breed. In
the estimation of the genetic parameters we used R.E.M.L.
(Restricted Maximum Likelihood) method.
The main lactoprotein from milk, kappa - casein (K-cz),
characterized in the specialized literature as a feature having a high
degree of hereditary transmission, behaves as such in the nucleus under
study, a value also confirmed by the heritability coefficient (h2 = 0.57
%). We must mention the medium values for milk and fat quantity
(h2=0.26, 0.29 %) and the fat and protein percentage from milk
having a high hereditary influence h2 = 0.71 - 0.63 %.
Correlations between kappa-casein and the milk quantity are
negative and strong. Between kappa-casein and other qualitative
features of milk (fat content 0.58-0.67 % and protein content 0.77-
0.87%), there are positive and very strong correlations. At the same
time, between kappa-casein and β casein (β-cz), β lactoglobulin (β-
lg) respectively, correlations are positive having high values (0.37 –
0.45 %), indicating the same causes and determining factors for the
two groups of features.
