Abstract: Quality control charts are very effective in detecting
out of control signals but when a control chart signals an out of
control condition of the process mean, searching for a special cause
in the vicinity of the signal time would not always lead to prompt
identification of the source(s) of the out of control condition as the
change point in the process parameter(s) is usually different from the
signal time. It is very important to manufacturer to determine at what
point and which parameters in the past caused the signal. Early
warning of process change would expedite the search for the special
causes and enhance quality at lower cost. In this paper the quality
variables under investigation are assumed to follow a multivariate
normal distribution with known means and variance-covariance
matrix and the process means after one step change remain at the new
level until the special cause is being identified and removed, also it is
supposed that only one variable could be changed at the same time.
This research applies artificial neural network (ANN) to identify the
time the change occurred and the parameter which caused the change
or shift. The performance of the approach was assessed through a
computer simulation experiment. The results show that neural
network performs effectively and equally well for the whole shift
magnitude which has been considered.
Abstract: It is necessary to evaluate the bridges conditions and
strengthen bridges or parts of them. The reinforcement necessary due
to some reasons can be summarized as: First, a changing in use of
bridge could produce internal forces in a part of structural which
exceed the existing cross-sectional capacity. Second, bridges may
also need reinforcement because damage due to external factors
which reduced the cross-sectional resistance to external loads. One of
other factors could listed here its misdesign in some details, like
safety of bridge or part of its.This article identify the design demands
of Qing Shan bridge located in is in Heilongjiang Province He gang -
Nen Jiang Road 303 provincial highway, Wudalianchi area, China, is
an important bridge in the urban areas. The investigation program
was include the observation and evaluate the damage in T- section
concrete beams , prestressed concrete box girder bridges section in
additional evaluate the whole state of bridge includes the pier ,
abutments , bridge decks, wings , bearing and capping beam, joints,
........etc. The test results show that the bridges in general structural
condition are good. T beam span No 10 were observed, crack
extended upward along the ribbed T beam, and continue to the T
beam flange. Crack width varying between 0.1mm to 0.4mm, the
maximum about 0.4mm. The bridge needs to be improved flexural
bending strength especially at for T beam section.
Abstract: The last decade has shown that object-oriented
concept by itself is not that powerful to cope with the rapidly
changing requirements of ongoing applications. Component-based
systems achieve flexibility by clearly separating the stable parts of
systems (i.e. the components) from the specification of their
composition. In order to realize the reuse of components effectively
in CBSD, it is required to measure the reusability of components.
However, due to the black-box nature of components where the
source code of these components are not available, it is difficult to
use conventional metrics in Component-based Development as these
metrics require analysis of source codes. In this paper, we survey
few existing component-based reusability metrics. These metrics
give a border view of component-s understandability, adaptability,
and portability. It also describes the analysis, in terms of quality
factors related to reusability, contained in an approach that aids
significantly in assessing existing components for reusability.
Abstract: In this paper, a methodology of a model based on
predicting the tool forces oblique machining are introduced by
adopting the orthogonal technique. The applied analytical calculation
is mostly based on Devries model and some parts of the methodology
are employed from Amareggo-Brown model. Model validation is
performed by comparing experimental data with the prediction results
on machining titanium alloy (Ti-6Al-4V) based on micro-cutting tool
perspective. Good agreements with the experiments are observed. A
detailed friction form that affected the tool forces also been examined
with reasonable results obtained.
Abstract: This paper is a survey of current component-based
software technologies and the description of promotion and
inhibition factors in CBSE. The features that software components
inherit are also discussed. Quality Assurance issues in componentbased
software are also catered to. The feat research on the quality
model of component based system starts with the study of what the
components are, CBSE, its development life cycle and the pro &
cons of CBSE. Various attributes are studied and compared keeping
in view the study of various existing models for general systems and
CBS. When illustrating the quality of a software component an apt
set of quality attributes for the description of the system (or
components) should be selected. Finally, the research issues that can
be extended are tabularized.
Abstract: This paper presents image compression with wavelet based method. The wavelet transformation divides image to low- and high pass filtered parts. The traditional JPEG compression technique requires lower computation power with feasible losses, when only compression is needed. However, there is obvious need for wavelet based methods in certain circumstances. The methods are intended to the applications in which the image analyzing is done parallel with compression. Furthermore, high frequency bands can be used to detect changes or edges. Wavelets enable hierarchical analysis for low pass filtered sub-images. The first analysis can be done for a small image, and only if any interesting is found, the whole image is processed or reconstructed.
Abstract: Detection of incipient abnormal events is important to
improve safety and reliability of machine operations and reduce losses
caused by failures. Improper set-ups or aligning of parts often leads to
severe problems in many machines. The construction of prediction
models for predicting faulty conditions is quite essential in making
decisions on when to perform machine maintenance. This paper
presents a multivariate calibration monitoring approach based on the
statistical analysis of machine measurement data. The calibration
model is used to predict two faulty conditions from historical reference
data. This approach utilizes genetic algorithms (GA) based variable
selection, and we evaluate the predictive performance of several
prediction methods using real data. The results shows that the
calibration model based on supervised probabilistic principal
component analysis (SPPCA) yielded best performance in this work.
By adopting a proper variable selection scheme in calibration models,
the prediction performance can be improved by excluding
non-informative variables from their model building steps.
Abstract: In order to calculate the flexural strength of
normal-strength concrete (NSC) beams, the nonlinear actual concrete
stress distribution within the compression zone is normally replaced
by an equivalent rectangular stress block, with two coefficients of α
and β to regulate the intensity and depth of the equivalent stress
respectively. For NSC beams design, α and β are usually assumed
constant as 0.85 and 0.80 in reinforced concrete (RC) codes. From an
earlier investigation of the authors, α is not a constant but significantly
affected by flexural strain gradient, and increases with the increasing
of strain gradient till a maximum value. It indicates that larger
concrete stress can be developed in flexure than that stipulated by
design codes. As an extension and application of the authors- previous
study, the modified equivalent concrete stress block is used here to
produce a series of design charts showing the maximum design limits
of flexural strength and ductility of singly- and doubly- NSC beams,
through which both strength and ductility design limits are improved
by taking into account strain gradient effect.
Abstract: In the planning point of view, it is essential to have
mode choice, due to the massive amount of incurred in transportation
systems. The intercity travellers in Libya have distinct features, as
against travellers from other countries, which includes cultural and
socioeconomic factors. Consequently, the goal of this study is to
recognize the behavior of intercity travel using disaggregate models,
for projecting the demand of nation-level intercity travel in Libya.
Multinomial Logit Model for all the intercity trips has been
formulated to examine the national-level intercity transportation in
Libya. The Multinomial logit model was calibrated using nationwide
revealed preferences (RP) and stated preferences (SP) survey. The
model was developed for deference purpose of intercity trips (work,
social and recreational). The variables of the model have been
predicted based on maximum likelihood method. The data needed for
model development were obtained from all major intercity corridors
in Libya. The final sample size consisted of 1300 interviews. About
two-thirds of these data were used for model calibration, and the
remaining parts were used for model validation. This study, which is
the first of its kind in Libya, investigates the intercity traveler’s
mode-choice behavior. The intercity travel mode-choice model was
successfully calibrated and validated. The outcomes indicate that, the
overall model is effective and yields higher precision of estimation.
The proposed model is beneficial, due to the fact that, it is receptive
to a lot of variables, and can be employed to determine the impact of
modifications in the numerous characteristics on the need for various
travel modes. Estimations of the model might also be of valuable to
planners, who can estimate possibilities for various modes and
determine the impact of unique policy modifications on the need for
intercity travel.
Abstract: Chemical industry project management involves
complex decision making situations that require discerning abilities
and methods to make sound decisions. Project managers are faced
with decision environments and problems in projects that are
complex. In this work, case study is Research and Development
(R&D) project selection. R&D is an ongoing process for forward
thinking technology-based chemical industries. R&D project
selection is an important task for organizations with R&D project
management. It is a multi-criteria problem which includes both
tangible and intangible factors. The ability to make sound decisions
is very important to success of R&D projects. Multiple-criteria
decision making (MCDM) approaches are major parts of decision
theory and analysis. This paper presents all of MCDM approaches
for use in R&D project selection. It is hoped that this work will
provide a ready reference on MCDM and this will encourage the
application of the MCDM by chemical engineering management.
Abstract: MATCH project [1] entitle the development of an
automatic diagnosis system that aims to support treatment of colon
cancer diseases by discovering mutations that occurs to tumour
suppressor genes (TSGs) and contributes to the development of
cancerous tumours. The constitution of the system is based on a)
colon cancer clinical data and b) biological information that will be
derived by data mining techniques from genomic and proteomic
sources The core mining module will consist of the popular, well
tested hybrid feature extraction methods, and new combined
algorithms, designed especially for the project. Elements of rough
sets, evolutionary computing, cluster analysis, self-organization maps
and association rules will be used to discover the annotations
between genes, and their influence on tumours [2]-[11].
The methods used to process the data have to address their high
complexity, potential inconsistency and problems of dealing with the
missing values. They must integrate all the useful information
necessary to solve the expert's question. For this purpose, the system
has to learn from data, or be able to interactively specify by a domain
specialist, the part of the knowledge structure it needs to answer a
given query. The program should also take into account the
importance/rank of the particular parts of data it analyses, and adjusts
the used algorithms accordingly.
Abstract: This paper provides an in-depth study of Wireless
Sensor Network (WSN) application to monitor and control the
swiftlet habitat. A set of system design is designed and developed
that includes the hardware design of the nodes, Graphical User
Interface (GUI) software, sensor network, and interconnectivity for
remote data access and management. System architecture is proposed
to address the requirements for habitat monitoring. Such applicationdriven
design provides and identify important areas of further work
in data sampling, communications and networking. For this
monitoring system, a sensor node (MTS400), IRIS and Micaz radio
transceivers, and a USB interfaced gateway base station of Crossbow
(Xbow) Technology WSN are employed. The GUI of this monitoring
system is written using a Laboratory Virtual Instrumentation
Engineering Workbench (LabVIEW) along with Xbow Technology
drivers provided by National Instrument. As a result, this monitoring
system is capable of collecting data and presents it in both tables and
waveform charts for further analysis. This system is also able to send
notification message by email provided Internet connectivity is
available whenever changes on habitat at remote sites (swiftlet farms)
occur. Other functions that have been implemented in this system
are the database system for record and management purposes; remote
access through the internet using LogMeIn software. Finally, this
research draws a conclusion that a WSN for monitoring swiftlet
habitat can be effectively used to monitor and manage swiftlet
farming industry in Sarawak.
Abstract: This study was carried out in Ankara, the capital city of Turkey, in order to determine how people living in the slums of Ankara benefit from educational equality. Within the scope of the research, interviews were made with 64 families whose children have been getting education from the primary schools of these parts and the data of the study was collected by the researcher. The results of the research demonstrate that the children getting education in the slums of Ankara can not experience educational equality and justice. The results of this study show that the opportunities of the schools in the slums of Ankara are very limited, so the individuals in these districts can not equally benefit from the education. Abstract: This paper present an effective method to accurately reconstruct and measure the 3D curve edges of small industrial parts based on stereo vision. To effectively fit the curve of the measured parts using a series of line segments in the images, a strategy from coarse to fine is employed based on multi-scale curve fitting. After reconstructing the 3D curve of a hole through a curved surface, its axis is adjusted so that it is parallel to the Z axis with least squares error and the dimensions of the hole can be calculated on the XY plane easily. Experimental results show that the presented method can accurately measure the dimensions of round holes through a curved surface.
Abstract: In this contribution a newly developed elearning environment is presented, which incorporates Intelligent Agents and Computational Intelligence Techniques. The new e-learning environment is constituted by three parts, the E-learning platform Front-End, the Student Questioner Reasoning and the Student Model Agent. These parts are distributed geographically in dispersed computer servers, with main focus on the design and development of these subsystems through the use of new and emerging technologies. These parts are interconnected in an interoperable way, using web services for the integration of the subsystems, in order to enhance the user modelling procedure and achieve the goals of the learning process.
Abstract: Most of the commercial gluten free products are
nutritionally inferior when compared to gluten containing
counterparts as manufacturers most often use the refined flours and
starches. So it is possible that people on gluten free diet have low
intake of fibre content. The foxtail millet flour and copra meal are
gluten free and have high fibre and protein contents. The formulation
of fibre rich gluten free cookies was optimized by response surface
methodology considering independent process variables as proportion
of Foxtail millet (Setaria italica) flour in mixed flour, fat content and
guar gum. The sugar, sodium chloride, sodium bicarbonates and
water were added in fixed proportion as 60, 1.0, 0.4 and 20% of
mixed flour weight, respectively. Optimum formulation obtained for
maximum spread ratio, fibre content, surface L-value, overall
acceptability and minimum breaking strength were 80% foxtail millet
flour in mixed flour, 42.8 % fat content and 0.05% guar gum.
Abstract: Feeder is one of the airships of the Multibody Advanced Airship for Transport (MAAT) system, under development within the EU FP7 project. MAAT is based on a modular concept composed of two different parts that have the possibility to join; respectively they are the so-called Cruiser and Feeder, designed on the lighter than air principle. Feeder, also named ATEN (Airship Transport Elevator Network), is the smaller one which joins the bigger one, Cruiser, also named PTAH (Photovoltaic modular Transport Airship for High altitude),envisaged to happen at 15km altitude. During the MAAT design phase, the aerodynamic studies of the both airships and their interactions are analyzed. The objective of these studies is to understand the aerodynamic behavior of all the preselected configurations, as an important element in the overall MAAT system design. The most of these configurations are only simulated by CFD, while the most feasible one is experimentally analyzed in order to validate and thrust the CFD predictions. This paper presents the numerical and experimental investigation of the Feeder “conical like" shape configuration. The experiments are focused on the aerodynamic force coefficients and the pressure distribution over the Feeder outer surface, while the numerical simulation cover also the analysis of the velocity and pressure distribution. Finally, the wind tunnel experiment is compared with its CFD model in order to validate such specific simulations with respective experiments and to better understand the difference between the wind tunnel and in-flight circumstances.
Abstract: In this paper a low cost knowledge base system (KBS)
framework is proposed for design of deep drawing die and procedure
for developing system modules. The task of building the system is
structured into different modules for major activities of design of
deep drawing die. A manufacturability assessment module of the
proposed framework is developed to check the manufacturability of
deep drawn parts. The technological knowledge is represented by
using IF- THEN rules and it is coded in AutoLISP language. The
module is designed to be loaded into the prompt area of AutoCAD.
The cost of implementation of proposed system makes it affordable
for small and medium scale sheet metal industries.
Abstract: The culture of riding heavy motorcycles originates
from advanced countries and mainly comes from Europe, North
America, and Japan. Heavy duty motorcycle riders are different from
people who view motorcycles as a convenient mean of transportation.
They regard riding them as a kind of enjoyment and high-level taste.
The activities of riding heavy duty motorcycles have formes a
distinctive landscape in domestic land in Taiwan. Previous studies
which explored motorcycle culture in Taiwan still focused on the
objects of motorcycle engine displacement under 50 cc.. The study
aims to study the heavy duty motorcycles of engine displacement over
550 cc. and explores where their attractiveness is. For finding the
attractiveness of heavy duty motorcycle, the study chooses Miryoku
Engineering (Preference-Based Design) approach. Two steps are
adopted to proceed the research. First, through arranging the letters
obtained from interviewing experts, EGM (The Evaluation Grid
Method) was applied to find out the structure of attractiveness. The
attractive styles are eye-dazzling, leisure, classic, and racing
competitive styles. Secondarily, Quantification Theory Type I analysis
was adopted as a tool for analyzing the importance of attractiveness.
The relationship between style and attractive parts was also discussed.
The results could contribute to the design and research development of
heavy duty motorcycle industry in Taiwan.
Abstract: This paper describes a methodology for remote
performance monitoring of retail refrigeration systems. The proposed
framework starts with monitoring of the whole refrigeration circuit
which allows detecting deviations from expected behavior caused by
various faults and degradations. The subsequent diagnostics methods
drill down deeper in the equipment hierarchy to more specifically
determine root causes. An important feature of the proposed concept
is that it does not require any additional sensors, and thus, the
performance monitoring solution can be deployed at a low
installation cost. Moreover only a minimum of contextual
information is required, which also substantially reduces time and
cost of the deployment process.
