Abstract: Champs Bourcin black grape originated from
Aquitaine, France and planted in Sapa, Lao cai provice, exhibited
high total acidity (11.72 g/L). After 9 days of alcoholic fermentation
at 25oC using Saccharomyces cerevisiae UP3OY5 strain, the ethanol
concentration of wine was 11.5% v/v, however the sharp sour taste of
wine has been found. The malolactic fermentation (MLF) was carried
out by Oenococcus oeni ATCCBAA-1163 strain which had been preadapted
to acid (pH 3-4) and ethanol (8-12%v/v) conditions. We
obtained the highest vivability (83.2%) upon malolactic fermentation
after 5 days at 22oC with early stationary phase O. oeni cells preadapted
to pH 3.5 and 8% v/v ethanol in MRS medium. The malic
acid content in wine was decreased from 5.82 g/L to 0.02 g/L after
MLF (21 days at 22oC). The sensory quality of wine was
significantly improved.
Abstract: The authors report a case of swine urolithiasis caused
by improper administration of sulfamonomethoxine and which was
diagnosed by examination of urinary sediments and analyzing the
composition of the uroliths. The chemical composition of urinary
calculi obtained from affected pigs with urolithiasis was further
confimed as sulfamonomethoxine by fourier transform infrared
(FTIR). It is suggested that appearance of typical fanlike or wheat
bunchy crystals in urinary sediments under observation of lightmicroscope
and determination by FTIR for the crystals are helpful in
diagnosing sulfa calculi causced swine urolithiasis.
Abstract: The new framework the Higher Education is
immersed in involves a complete change in the way lecturers must
teach and students must learn. Whereas the lecturer was the main
character in traditional education, the essential goal now is to
increase the students' participation in the process. Thus, one of the
main tasks of lecturers in this new context is to design activities of
different nature in order to encourage such participation. Seminars
are one of the activities included in this environment. They are active
sessions that enable going in depth into specific topics as support of
other activities. They are characterized by some features such as
favoring interaction between students and lecturers or improving
their communication skills. Hence, planning and organizing strategic
seminars is indeed a great challenge for lecturers with the aim of
acquiring knowledge and abilities. This paper proposes a method
using Artificial Intelligence techniques to obtain student profiles
from their marks and preferences. The goal of building such profiles
is twofold. First, it facilitates the task of splitting the students into
different groups, each group with similar preferences and learning
difficulties. Second, it makes it easy to select adequate topics to be a
candidate for the seminars. The results obtained can be either a
guarantee of what the lecturers could observe during the development
of the course or a clue to reconsider new methodological strategies in
certain topics.

plays an essential role in computer security due to its powerful expressiveness
and concise syntax and semantics. In this paper, both issues
of specification and implementation in database security environment
will be considered; and the database security is achieved through
the development of an efficient implementation of the specification
without compromising its originality and expressiveness.
Abstract: The purpose of this article is to analyze economic and
political tendencies of development of integration processes with
different developing level and speed on the Eurasian space, by considering two organizations at the region – Eurasian Economic
Community and Shanghai Cooperation Organization, by considering the interests of participations in organizations of Russia and China as
a global powers and Kazakhstan as a leader among the Central Asian
countries. This article investigates what certain goals Eurasian
countries (especially Russia, Kazakhstan and China) are waiting from integration within the SCO and the EurAsEC, linking the process
with the theories of regional integration. After European debt crisis it is more topically to research the integration within the specific
region's conditions.
Abstract: Let k, t, d be arbitrary integers with k ≥ 2, t ≥ 0 and
d = k2 - k. In the first section we give some preliminaries from
Pell equations x2 - dy2 = 1 and x2 - dy2 = N, where N be any
fixed positive integer. In the second section, we consider the integer
solutions of Pell equations x2 - dy2 = 1 and x2 - dy2 = 2t. We
give a method for the solutions of these equations. Further we derive
recurrence relations on the solutions of these equations
Abstract: In this paper zero-dissipative explicit Runge-Kutta
method is derived for solving second-order ordinary differential
equations with periodical solutions. The phase-lag and dissipation
properties for Runge-Kutta (RK) method are also discussed. The new
method has algebraic order three with dissipation of order infinity.
The numerical results for the new method are compared with existing
method when solving the second-order differential equations with
periodic solutions using constant step size.
Abstract: Results of Chilean wine classification based on the
information provided by an electronic nose are reported in this paper.
The classification scheme consists of two parts; in the first stage,
Principal Component Analysis is used as feature extraction method to
reduce the dimensionality of the original information. Then, Radial
Basis Functions Neural Networks is used as pattern recognition
technique to perform the classification. The objective of this study is
to classify different Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Carménère wine
samples from different years, valleys and vineyards of Chile.
Abstract: This study reports the implementation of Good
Manufacturing Practice (GMP) in a polycarbonate film processing
plant. The implementation of GMP took place with the creation of a
multidisciplinary team. It was carried out in four steps: conduct gap
assessment, create gap closure plan, close gaps, and follow up the
GMP implementation. The basis for the gap assessment is the
guideline for GMP for plastic materials and articles intended for Food
Contact Material (FCM), which was edited by Plastic Europe. The
effective results of the GMP implementation in this study showed
100% completion of gap assessment. The key success factors for
implementing GMP in production process are the commitment,
intention and support of top management.
Abstract: This article provides empirical evidence on the effect
of domestic and international factors on the U.S. current account
deficit. Linear dynamic regression and vector autoregression models
are employed to estimate the relationships during the period from 1986
to 2011. The findings of this study suggest that the current and lagged
private saving rate and foreign current account for East Asian
economies have played a vital role in affecting the U.S. current
account. Additionally, using Granger causality tests and variance
decompositions, the change of the productivity growth and foreign
domestic demand are determined to influence significantly the change
of the U.S. current account. To summarize, the empirical relationship
between the U.S. current account deficit and its determinants is
sensitive to alternative regression models and specifications.
Abstract: The present study was designed to investigate the
cardio protective role of chronic oral administration of alcoholic
extract of Terminalia arjuna in in-vivo ischemic reperfusion injury
and the induction of HSP72. Rabbits, divided into three groups, and
were administered with the alcoholic extract of the bark powder of
Terminalia arjuna (TAAE) by oral gavage [6.75mg/kg: (T1) and
9.75mg/kg: (T2), 6 days /week for 12 weeks]. In open-chest
Ketamine pentobarbitone anaesthetized rabbits, the left anterior
descending coronary artery was occluded for 15 min of ischemia
followed by 60 min of reperfusion. In the vehicle-treated group,
ischemic-reperfusion injury (IRI) was evidenced by depression of
global hemodynamic function (MAP, HR, LVEDP, peak LV (+) & (-
) (dP/dt) along with depletion of HEP compounds. Oxidative stress
in IRI was evidenced by, raised levels of myocardial TBARS and
depletion of endogenous myocardial antioxidants GSH, SOD and
catalase. Western blot analysis showed a single band corresponding
to 72 kDa in homogenates of hearts from rabbits treated with both the
doses. In the alcoholic extract of the bark powder of Terminalia
arjuna treatment groups, both the doses had better recovery of
myocardial hemodynamic function, with significant reduction in
TBARS, and rise in SOD, GSH, catalase were observed. The results
of the present study suggest that the alcoholic extract of the bark
powder of Terminalia arjuna in rabbit induces myocardial HSP 72
and augments myocardial endogenous antioxidants, without causing
any cellular injury and offered better cardioprotection against
oxidative stress associated with myocardial IR injury.
Abstract: This paper considers the effect of heat generation
proportional l to (T - T∞ )p , where T is the local temperature and T∞
is the ambient temperature, in unsteady free convection flow near the
stagnation point region of a three-dimensional body. The fluid is
considered in an ambient fluid under the assumption of a step change
in the surface temperature of the body. The non-linear coupled partial
differential equations governing the free convection flow are solved
numerically using an implicit finite-difference method for different
values of the governing parameters entering these equations. The
results for the flow and heat characteristics when p ≤ 2 show that
the transition from the initial unsteady-state flow to the final steadystate
flow takes place smoothly. The behavior of the flow is seen
strongly depend on the exponent p.
Abstract: A ten-year grazing study was conducted at the
Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada Brandon Research Centre in
Manitoba to study the effect of alfalfa inclusion and fertilizer (N, P,
K, and S) addition on economics and efficiency of non-renewable
energy use in meadow brome grass-based pasture systems for beef
production. Fertilizing grass-only or alfalfa-grass pastures to full soil
test recommendations improved pasture productivity, but did not
improve profitability compared to unfertilized pastures. Fertilizing
grass-only pastures resulted in the highest net loss of any pasture
management strategy in this study. Adding alfalfa at the time of
seeding, with no added fertilizer, was economically the best pasture
improvement strategy in this study. Because of moisture limitations,
adding commercial fertilizer to full soil test recommendations is
probably not economically justifiable in most years, especially with
the rising cost of fertilizer. Improving grass-only pastures by adding
fertilizer and/or alfalfa required additional non-renewable energy
inputs; however, the additional energy required for unfertilized
alfalfa-grass pastures was minimal compared to the fertilized
pastures. Of the four pasture management strategies, adding alfalfa
to grass pastures without adding fertilizer had the highest efficiency
of energy use. Based on energy use and economic performance, the
unfertilized alfalfa-grass pasture was the most efficient and
sustainable pasture system.
Abstract: Solid fuel transient burning behavior under oxidizer
gas flow is numerically investigated. It is done using analysis of the
regression rate responses to the imposed sudden and oscillatory
variation at inflow properties. The conjugate problem is considered
by simultaneous solution of flow and solid phase governing
equations to compute the fuel regression rate. The advection
upstream splitting method is used as flow computational scheme in
finite volume method. The ignition phase is completely simulated to
obtain the exact initial condition for response analysis. The results
show that the transient burning effects which lead to the combustion
instabilities and intermittent extinctions could be observed in solid
fuels as the solid propellants.
Abstract: It well recognized that one feature that makes a
successful company is its ability to successfully align its business goals with its information communication technologies platform.
Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems contribute to achieve better performance by integrating various business functions and
providing support for information flows. However, the technological
systems complexity is known to prevent the business users to exploit in an efficient way the Enterprise Resource Planning Systems (ERP).
This paper aims to investigate the role of training in improving the
usage of ERP systems. To this end, we have designed an instrument
survey to employees of a Norwegian multinational global provider of
technology solutions. Based on the analysis of collected data, we have delineated a training model that could be high relevance for
both researchers and practitioners as a step towards a better
understanding of ERP system implementation.
Abstract: This paper present the harmonic elimination of hybrid
multilevel inverters (HMI) which could be increase the number of
output voltage level. Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) is one of the
most important requirements concerning performance indices.
Because of many numbers output levels of HMI, it had numerous
unknown variables of eliminate undesired individual harmonic and
THD nonlinear equations set. Optimized harmonic stepped waveform
(OHSW) is solving switching angles conventional method, but most
complicated for solving as added level. The artificial intelligent
techniques are deliberation to solve this problem. This paper presents
the Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) technique for solving
switching angles to get minimum THD and eliminate undesired
individual harmonics of 15-levels hybrid multilevel inverters.
Consequently it had many variables and could eliminate numerous
harmonics. Both advantages including high level of inverter and
Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) are used as powerful tools for
harmonics elimination.
Abstract: Urban disaster risks and vulnerabilities are great problems for Turkey. The annual loss of life and property through disaster in the world-s major metropolitan areas is increasing. Urban concentrations of the poor and less-informed in environmentally fragile locations suffer the impact of disaster disproportionately. Gecekondu (squatter) developments will compound the inherent risks associated with high-density environments, in appropriate technologies, and inadequate infrastructure. On the other hand, there are many geological disadvantages such as sitting on top of active tectonic plate boundaries, and why having avalanche, flood, and landslide and drought prone areas in Turkey. However, this natural formation is inevitable; the only way to survive in such a harsh geography is to be aware of importance of these natural events and to take political and physical measures. The main aim of this research is to bring up the magnitude of natural hazard risks in Izmir built-up zone, not being taken into consideration adequately. Because the dimensions of the peril are not taken seriously enough, the natural hazard risks, which are commonly well known, are not considered important or they are being forgotten after some time passes. Within this research, the magnitude of natural hazard risks for Izmir is being presented in the scope of concrete and local researches over Izmir risky areas.
Abstract: Let (U;D) be a Gr-covering approximation space
(U; C) with covering lower approximation operator D and covering
upper approximation operator D. For a subset X of U, this paper
investigates the following three conditions: (1) X is a definable subset
of (U;D); (2) X is an inner definable subset of (U;D); (3) X is an
outer definable subset of (U;D). It is proved that if one of the above
three conditions holds, then the others hold. These results give a
positive answer of an open problem for definable subsets of covering
approximation spaces.
Abstract: The aim of this study was to compare the solubility of selected volatile organic compounds in water and silicon oil using the simple static headspace method. The experimental design allowed equilibrium achievement within 30 – 60 minutes. Infinite dilution activity coefficients and Henry-s law constants for various organics representing esters, ketones, alkanes, aromatics, cycloalkanes and amines were measured at 303K. The measurements were reproducible with a relative standard deviation and coefficient of variation of 1.3x10-3 and 1.3 respectively. The static determined activity coefficients using shaker flasks were reasonably comparable to those obtained using the gas liquid - chromatographic technique and those predicted using the group contribution methods mainly the UNIFAC. Silicon oil chemically known as polydimethysiloxane was found to be better absorbent for VOCs than water which quickly becomes saturated. For example the infinite dilution mole fraction based activity coefficients of hexane is 0.503 and 277 000 in silicon oil and water respectively. Thus silicon oil gives a superior factor of 550 696. Henry-s law constants and activity coefficients at infinite dilution play a significant role in the design of scrubbers for abatement of volatile organic compounds from contaminated air streams. This paper presents the phase equilibrium of volatile organic compounds in very dilute aqueous and polymeric solutions indicating the movement and fate of chemical in air and solvent. The successful comparison of the results obtained here and those obtained using other methods by the same authors and in literature, means that the results obtained here are reliable.
Abstract: Concrete strength evaluated from compression tests
on cores is affected by several factors causing differences from the
in-situ strength at the location from which the core specimen was
extracted. Among the factors, there is the damage possibly occurring
during the drilling phase that generally leads to underestimate the
actual in-situ strength. In order to quantify this effect, in this study
two wide datasets have been examined, including: (i) about 500 core
specimens extracted from Reinforced Concrete existing structures,
and (ii) about 600 cube specimens taken during the construction of
new structures in the framework of routine acceptance control. The
two experimental datasets have been compared in terms of
compression strength and specific weight values, accounting for the
main factors affecting a concrete property, that is type and amount of
cement, aggregates' grading, type and maximum size of aggregates,
water/cement ratio, placing and curing modality, concrete age. The
results show that the magnitude of the strength reduction due to
drilling damage is strongly affected by the actual properties of
concrete, being inversely proportional to its strength. Therefore, the
application of a single value of the correction coefficient, as generally
suggested in the technical literature and in structural codes, appears
inappropriate. A set of values of the drilling damage coefficient is
suggested as a function of the strength obtained from compressive
tests on cores.
