Abstract: The aim of this paper is to adopt a compromise ratio (CR) methodology for fuzzy multi-attribute single-expert decision making proble. In this paper, the rating of each alternative has been described by linguistic terms, which can be expressed as triangular fuzzy numbers. The compromise ratio method for fuzzy multi-attribute single expert decision making has been considered here by taking the ranking index based on the concept that the chosen alternative should be as close as possible to the ideal solution and as far away as possible from the negative-ideal solution simultaneously. From logical point of view, the distance between two triangular fuzzy numbers also is a fuzzy number, not a crisp value. Therefore a fuzzy distance measure, which is itself a fuzzy number, has been used here to calculate the difference between two triangular fuzzy numbers. Now in this paper, with the help of this fuzzy distance measure, it has been shown that the compromise ratio is a fuzzy number and this eases the problem of the decision maker to take the decision. The computation principle and the procedure of the compromise ratio method have been described in detail in this paper. A comparative analysis of the compromise ratio method previously proposed [1] and the newly adopted method have been illustrated with two numerical examples.
Abstract: This Classifying Bird Sounds (chip notes) project-s
purpose is to reduce the unwanted noise from recorded bird sound
chip notes, design a scheme to detect differences and similarities
between recorded chip notes, and classify bird sound chip notes. The
technologies of determining the similarities of sound waves have
been used in communication, sound engineering and wireless sound
applications for many years. Our research is focused on the similarity
of chip notes, which are the sounds from different birds. The program
we use is generated by Microsoft Cµ.
Abstract: Results of Chilean wine classification based on the
information provided by an electronic nose are reported in this paper.
The classification scheme consists of two parts; in the first stage,
Principal Component Analysis is used as feature extraction method to
reduce the dimensionality of the original information. Then, Radial
Basis Functions Neural Networks is used as pattern recognition
technique to perform the classification. The objective of this study is
to classify different Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Carménère wine
samples from different years, valleys and vineyards of Chile.
Abstract: This study reports the implementation of Good
Manufacturing Practice (GMP) in a polycarbonate film processing
plant. The implementation of GMP took place with the creation of a
multidisciplinary team. It was carried out in four steps: conduct gap
assessment, create gap closure plan, close gaps, and follow up the
GMP implementation. The basis for the gap assessment is the
guideline for GMP for plastic materials and articles intended for Food
Contact Material (FCM), which was edited by Plastic Europe. The
effective results of the GMP implementation in this study showed
100% completion of gap assessment. The key success factors for
implementing GMP in production process are the commitment,
intention and support of top management.
Abstract: Web-based technologies have created numerous
opportunities for electronic word-of-mouth (eWOM) communication.
There are many factors that affect customer adoption and decisionmaking
process. However, only a few researches focus on some
factors such as the membership time of forum and propensity to trust.
Using a discrete-time event simulation to simulate a diffusion model
along with a consumer decision model, the study shows the effect of
each factor on adoption of opinions on on-line discussion forum. The
purpose of this study is to examine the effect of factor affecting
information adoption and decision making process. The model is
constructed to test quantitative aspects of each factor. The simulation
study shows the membership time and the propensity to trust has an
effect on information adoption and purchasing decision. The result of
simulation shows that the longer the membership time in the
communities and the higher propensity to trust could lead to the
higher demand rates because consumers find it easier and faster to
trust the person in the community and then adopt the eWOM. Other
implications for both researchers and practitioners are provided.
Abstract: This article provides empirical evidence on the effect
of domestic and international factors on the U.S. current account
deficit. Linear dynamic regression and vector autoregression models
are employed to estimate the relationships during the period from 1986
to 2011. The findings of this study suggest that the current and lagged
private saving rate and foreign current account for East Asian
economies have played a vital role in affecting the U.S. current
account. Additionally, using Granger causality tests and variance
decompositions, the change of the productivity growth and foreign
domestic demand are determined to influence significantly the change
of the U.S. current account. To summarize, the empirical relationship
between the U.S. current account deficit and its determinants is
sensitive to alternative regression models and specifications.
Abstract: These days people love to travel around the world.
Regardless of their location and time, they especially Muslims still
need to perform their prayers. Normally for travelers, they need to
bring maps, compass and for Muslim, they even have to bring Qibla
pointer when they travel. It is slightly difficult to determine the Qibla
direction and to know the time for each prayer. As the technology
grows, many PDA equip with maps and GPS to locate their location.
In this paper we present a new electronic device called Mobile Qibla
and Prayer Time Finder to locate the Qibla direction and to
determine each prayer time based on the current user-s location using
PDA. This device use PIC microcontroller equipped with digital
compass where it will communicate with PDA using Bluetooth
technology and display the exact Qibla direction and prayer time
automatically at any place in the world. This device is reliable and
accurate in determining the Qibla direction and prayer time.
Abstract: Nevertheless the widespread application of finite
mixture models in segmentation, finite mixture model selection is
still an important issue. In fact, the selection of an adequate number
of segments is a key issue in deriving latent segments structures and
it is desirable that the selection criteria used for this end are effective.
In order to select among several information criteria, which may
support the selection of the correct number of segments we conduct a
simulation study. In particular, this study is intended to determine
which information criteria are more appropriate for mixture model
selection when considering data sets with only categorical
segmentation base variables. The generation of mixtures of
multinomial data supports the proposed analysis. As a result, we
establish a relationship between the level of measurement of
segmentation variables and some (eleven) information criteria-s
performance. The criterion AIC3 shows better performance (it
indicates the correct number of the simulated segments- structure
more often) when referring to mixtures of multinomial segmentation
base variables.
Abstract: Transport and land use are two systems that are
mutually influenced. Their interaction is a complex process
associated with continuous feedback. The paper examines the
existing land use around an under construction metro station of the
new metro network of Thessaloniki, Greece, through the use of field
investigations, around the station-s predefined location. Moreover,
except from the analytical land use recording, a sampling
questionnaire survey is addressed to several selected enterprises of
the study area. The survey aims to specify the characteristics of the
enterprises, the trip patterns of their employees and clients, as well as
the stated preferences towards the changes the new metro station is
considered to bring to the area. The interpretation of the interrelationships
among selected data from the questionnaire survey takes
place using the method of Principal Components Analysis for
Categorical Data. The followed methodology and the survey-s results
contribute to the enrichment of the relevant bibliography concerning
the way the creation of a new metro station can have an impact on the
land use pattern of an area, by examining the situation before the
operation of the station.
Abstract: Inorganic nanoparticles filled polymer composites
have extended their multiple functionalities to various applications,
including mechanical reinforcement, gas barrier, dimensional
stability, heat distortion temperature, flame-retardant, and thermal
conductivity. Sodium stearate-modified calcium carbonate (CaCO3)
nanoparticles were prepared using surface modification method. The
results showed that sodium stearate attached to the surface of CaCO3
nanoparticles with the chemical bond. The effect of modified CaCO3
nanoparticles on thermal properties of polypropylene (PP) was
studied by means of differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and
Thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). It was found that CaCO3
significantly affected the crystallization temperature and
crystallization degree of PP. Effect of the modified CaCO3 content on
mechanical properties of PP/CaCO3 nanocomposites was also
studied. The results showed that the modified CaCO3 can effectively
improve the mechanical properties of PP. In comparison with PP, the
impact strength of PP/CaCO3 nanocomposites increased by about
65% and the hardness increased by about 5%.

Abstract: To illustrate diversity of methods used to extract relevant (where the concept of relevance can be differently defined for different applications) visual data, the paper discusses three groups of such methods. They have been selected from a range of alternatives to highlight how hardware and software tools can be complementarily used in order to achieve various functionalities in case of different specifications of “relevant data". First, principles of gated imaging are presented (where relevance is determined by the range). The second methodology is intended for intelligent intrusion detection, while the last one is used for content-based image matching and retrieval. All methods have been developed within projects supervised by the author.
Abstract: Secure electronic payment system is presented in this
paper. This electronic payment system is to be secure for clients such
as customers and shop owners. The security architecture of the
system is designed by RC5 encryption / decryption algorithm. This
eliminates the fraud that occurs today with stolen credit card
numbers. The symmetric key cryptosystem RC5 can protect
conventional transaction data such as account numbers, amount and
other information. This process can be done electronically using RC5
encryption / decryption program written by Microsoft Visual Basic
6.0. There is no danger of any data sent within the system being
intercepted, and replaced. The alternative is to use the existing
network, and to encrypt all data transmissions. The system with
encryption is acceptably secure, but that the level of encryption has
to be stepped up, as computing power increases. Results In order to
be secure the system the communication between modules is
encrypted using symmetric key cryptosystem RC5. The system will
use simple user name, password, user ID, user type and cipher
authentication mechanism for identification, when the user first
enters the system. It is the most common method of authentication in
most computer system.
Abstract: Voltage flicker problems have long existed in several
of the distribution areas served by the Taiwan Power Company. In
the past, those research results indicating that the estimated ΔV10
value based on the conventional method is significantly smaller than
the survey value. This paper is used to study the relationship between
the voltage flicker problems and harmonic power variation for the
power system with electric arc furnaces. This investigation discussed
thought the effect of harmonic power fluctuation with flicker
estimate value. The method of field measurement, statistics and
simulation is used. The survey results demonstrate that 10 ΔV
estimate must account for the effect of harmonic power variation.
Abstract: Sub-prime mortgage crisis which began in the US is
regarded as the most economic crisis since the Great Depression in the
early 20th century. Especially, hidden problems on efficient operation
of a business were disclosed at a time and many financial institutions
went bankrupt and filed for court receivership. The collapses of
physical market lead to bankruptcy of manufacturing and construction
businesses. This study is to analyze dynamic efficiency of construction
businesses during the five years at the turn of the global financial
crisis. By discovering the trend and stability of efficiency of a
construction business, this study-s objective is to improve
management efficiency of a construction business in the
ever-changing construction market. Variables were selected by
analyzing corporate information on top 20 construction businesses in
Korea and analyzed for static efficiency in 2008 and dynamic
efficiency between 2006 and 2010. Unlike other studies, this study
succeeded in deducing efficiency trend and stability of a construction
business for five years by using the DEA/Window model. Using the
analysis result, efficient and inefficient companies could be figured
out. In addition, relative efficiency among DMU was measured by
comparing the relationship between input and output variables of
construction businesses. This study can be used as a literature to
improve management efficiency for companies with low efficiency
based on efficiency analysis of construction businesses.
Abstract: “Web of Trust" is one of the recognized goals for
Web 2.0. It aims to make it possible for the people to take
responsibility for what they publish on the web, including
organizations, businesses and individual users. These objectives,
among others, drive most of the technologies and protocols recently
standardized by the governing bodies. One of the great advantages of
Web infrastructure is decentralization of publication. The primary
motivation behind Web 2.0 is to assist the people to add contents for
Collective Intelligence (CI) while providing mechanisms to link
content with people for evaluations and accountability of
information. Such structure of contents will interconnect users and
contents so that users can use contents to find participants and vice
versa. This paper proposes conceptual information storage and
linking model, based on decentralized information structure, that
links contents and people together. The model uses FOAF, Atom,
RDF and RDFS and can be used as a blueprint to develop Web 2.0
applications for any e-domain. However, primary target for this
paper is online trust evaluation domain. The proposed model targets
to assist the individuals to establish “Web of Trust" in online trust
domain.
Abstract: Participation in sporting activities can lead to injury.
Sport injuries have been widely studied in many sports including the
more extreme categories of aquatic board sports. Kitesurfing is a
relatively new water surface action sport, and has not yet been
widely studied in terms of injuries and stress on the body. The aim of
this study was to get information about which injuries that are most
common among kitesurfing participants, where they occur, and their
causes. Injuries were studied using an international open web
questionnaire (n=206).
The results showed that many respondents reported injuries, in
total 251 injuries to knee (24%), ankle (17%), trunk (16%) and
shoulders (10%), often sustained while doing jumps and tricks
(40%). Among the reported injuries were joint injuries (n=101),
muscle/tendon damages (n=47), wounds and cuts (n=36) and bone
fractures (n=28). Also environmental factors and equipment can
influence the risk of injury, or the extent of injury in a hazardous
situation. Conclusively, the information from this retrospective study
supports earlier studies in terms of prevalence and site of injuries.
Suggestively, this information should be used for to build a
foundation of knowledge about the sport for development of
applications for physical training and product development.
Abstract: This paper examines the relationships between and
among the various drivers of climate change that have both climatic
and ecological consequences for vegetation and land cover change in
arctic areas, particularly in arctic Alaska. It discusses the various
processes that have created spatial and climatic structures that have
facilitated observable vegetation and land cover changes in the
Arctic. Also, it indicates that the drivers of both climatic and
ecological changes in the Arctic are multi-faceted and operate in a
system with both positive and negative feedbacks that largely results
in further increases or decreases of the initial drivers of climatic and
vegetation change mainly at the local and regional scales. It
demonstrates that the impact of arctic warming on land cover change
and the Arctic ecosystems is not unidirectional and one dimensional
in nature but it represents a multi-directional and multi-dimensional
forces operating in a feedback system.
Abstract: Transient shape variation of a rotating liquid dropletis
simulated numerically. The three dimensional Navier-Stokes
equations were solved by using the level set method. The shape
variation from the sphere to the rotating ellipsoid, and to the two-robed
shapeare simulated, and the elongation of the two-robed droplet is
discussed. The two-robed shape after the initial transient is found to be
stable and the elongation is almost the same for the cases with different
initial rotation rate. The relationship between the elongation and the
rotation rate is obtained by averaging the transient shape variation. It is
shown that the elongation of two-robed shape is in good agreement
with the existing experimental data. It is found that the transient
numerical simulation is necessary for analyzing the largely elongated
two-robed shape of rotating droplet.
Abstract: In this paper, a watermarking algorithm that uses the wavelet transform with Multiple Description Coding (MDC) and Quantization Index Modulation (QIM) concepts is introduced. Also, the paper investigates the role of Contourlet Transform (CT) versus Wavelet Transform (WT) in providing robust image watermarking. Two measures are utilized in the comparison between the waveletbased and the contourlet-based methods; Peak Signal to Noise Ratio (PSNR) and Normalized Cross-Correlation (NCC). Experimental results reveal that the introduced algorithm is robust against different attacks and has good results compared to the contourlet-based algorithm.
