Abstract: The study investigates the mixing performance of
electrokinetically-driven power-law fluids in a microchannel
containing patterned trapezoid blocks. The effects of the geometry
parameters of the patterned trapezoid blocks and the flow behavior
index in the power-law model on the mixing efficiency within the
microchannel are explored. The results show that the mixing efficiency
can be improved by increasing the width of the blocks and extending
the length of upper surface of the blocks. In addition, the results show
that the mixing efficiency increases with an increasing flow behavior
index. Furthermore, it is shown that a heterogeneous patterning of the
zeta potential on the upper surfaces of the trapezoid blocks prompts
the formation of local flow recirculations, and therefore improves the
mixing efficiency. Consequently, it is shown that the mixing
performance improves with an increasing magnitude of the
heterogeneous surface zeta potential.
Abstract: The main objectif of this paper is to present a tool that
we have developed subject to characterize and modelling indoor radio
channel propagation at millimetric wave. The tool is based on the
ray tracing technique (RTT). As, in realistic environment we cannot
neglect the significant impact of Human Body Shadowing and other
objects in motion on indoor 60 GHz propagation channel. Hence,
our proposed model allows a simulation of propagation in a dynamic
indoor environment. First, we describe a model of human body.
Second, RTT with this model is used to simulate the propagation
of millimeter waves in the presence of persons in motion. Results
of the simulation show that this tool gives results in agreement with
those reported in the literature. Specially, the effects of people motion
on temporal channel properties.
Abstract: The dynamic spectrum allocation solutions such as
cognitive radio networks have been proposed as a key technology to
exploit the frequency segments that are spectrally underutilized.
Cognitive radio users work as secondary users who need to
constantly and rapidly sense the presence of primary users or
licensees to utilize their frequency bands if they are inactive. Short
sensing cycles should be run by the secondary users to achieve
higher throughput rates as well as to provide low level of interference
to the primary users by immediately vacating their channels once
they have been detected. In this paper, the throughput-sensing time
relationship in local and cooperative spectrum sensing has been
investigated under two distinct scenarios, namely, constant primary
user protection (CPUP) and constant secondary user spectrum
usability (CSUSU) scenarios. The simulation results show that the
design of sensing slot duration is very critical and depends on the
number of cooperating users under CPUP scenario whereas under
CSUSU, cooperating more users has no effect if the sensing time
used exceeds 5% of the total frame duration.
Abstract: Internet infrastructures in most places of the world
have been supported by the advancement of optical fiber technology,
most notably wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) system.
Optical technology by means of WDM system has revolutionized
long distance data transport and has resulted in high data capacity,
cost reductions, extremely low bit error rate, and operational
simplification of the overall Internet infrastructure. This paper
analyses and compares the system impairments, which occur at data
transmission rates of 2.5Gb/s and 10 Gb/s per wavelength channel in
our proposed optical WDM system for Internet infrastructure in
Tanzania. The results show that the data transmission rate of 2.5 Gb/s
has minimum system impairments compared with a rate of 10 Gb/s
per wavelength channel, and achieves a sufficient system
performance to provide a good Internet access service.
Abstract: SDMA (Space-Division Multiple Access) is a MIMO
(Multiple-Input and Multiple-Output) based wireless communication
network architecture which has the potential to significantly increase
the spectral efficiency and the system performance. The maximum
likelihood (ML) detection provides the optimal performance, but its
complexity increases exponentially with the constellation size of
modulation and number of users. The QR decomposition (QRD)
MUD can be a substitute to ML detection due its low complexity and
near optimal performance. The minimum mean-squared-error
(MMSE) multiuser detection (MUD) minimises the mean square
error (MSE), which may not give guarantee that the BER of the
system is also minimum. But the minimum bit error rate (MBER)
MUD performs better than the classic MMSE MUD in term of
minimum probability of error by directly minimising the BER cost
function. Also the MBER MUD is able to support more users than
the number of receiving antennas, whereas the rest of MUDs fail in
this scenario. In this paper the performance of various MUD
techniques is verified for the correlated MIMO channel models based
on IEEE 802.16n standard.
Abstract: An approach and its implementation in 0.18 m CMOS process of the multichannel ASIC for capacitive (up to 30 pF) sensors are described in the paper. The main design aim was to study an analog data-driven architecture. The design was done for an analog derandomizing function of the 128 to 16 structure. That means that the ASIC structure should provide a parallel front-end readout of 128 input analog sensor signals and after the corresponding fast commutation with appropriate arbitration logic their processing by means of 16 output chains, including analog-to-digital conversion. The principal feature of the ASIC is a low power consumption within 2 mW/channel (including a 9-bit 20Ms/s ADC) at a maximum average channel hit rate not less than 150 kHz.
Abstract: In a travelling wave thermoacoustic device, the
regenerator sandwiched between a pair of (hot and cold) heat
exchangers constitutes the so-called thermoacoustic core, where the
thermoacoustic energy conversion from heat to acoustic power takes
place. The temperature gradient along the regenerator caused by the
two heat exchangers excites and maintains the acoustic wave in the
resonator. The devices are called travelling wave thermoacoustic
systems because the phase angle difference between the pressure and
velocity oscillation is close to zero in the regenerator. This paper
presents the construction and testing of a thermoacoustic engine
equipped with a ceramic regenerator, made from a ceramic material
that is usually used as catalyst substrate in vehicles- exhaust systems,
with fine square channels (900 cells per square inch). The testing
includes the onset temperature difference (minimum temperature
difference required to start the acoustic oscillation in an engine), the
acoustic power output, thermal efficiency and the temperature profile
along the regenerator.
Abstract: In this work, we perform numerical simulation of fluid
mixing in a floor-grooved micro-channel with wavy sidewalls which
may impose perturbation on the helical flow induced by the slanted
grooves on the channel floor. The perturbation is caused by separation
vortices in the recesses of the wavy-walled channel as the Reynolds
number is large enough. The results show that the effects of the wavy
sidewalls of the present micromixer on the enhancement of fluid
mixing increase with the increase of Reynolds number. The degree of
mixing increases with the increase of the corrugation angle, until the
angle is greater than 45 degrees. Besides, the pumping pressure of the
micromixer increases with the increase of the corrugation angle
monotonically. Therefore, we would suggest setting the corrugation
angle of the wavy sidewalls to be 45 degrees.
Abstract: This paper presents a integer frequency offset (IFO)
estimation scheme for the 3GPP long term evolution (LTE) downlink
system. Firstly, the conventional joint detection method for IFO and
sector cell index (CID) information is introduced. Secondly, an IFO
estimation without explicit sector CID information is proposed, which
can operate jointly with the proposed IFO estimation and reduce
the time delay in comparison with the conventional joint method.
Also, the proposed method is computationally efficient and has almost
similar performance in comparison with the conventional method over
the Pedestrian and Vehicular channel models.
Abstract: The present study is concerned with effect of exciting
boundary layer on increase in heat transfer from flat surfaces. As any
increase in heat transfer between a fluid inside a face and another one
outside of it can cause an increase in some equipment's efficiency, so
at this present we have tried to increase the wall's heat transfer
coefficient by exciting the fluid boundary layer. By a collision
between flow and the placed block at the fluid way, the flow pattern
and the boundary layer stability will change. The flow way inside the
channel is simulated as a 2&3-dimensional channel by Gambit
TM
software.
With studying the achieved results by this simulation for the flow
way inside the channel with a block coordinating with Fluent
TM
software, it's determined that the figure and dimensions of the exciter
are too important for exciting the boundary layer so that any increase
in block dimensions in vertical side against the flow and any
reduction in its dimensions at the flow side can increase the average
heat transfer coefficient from flat surface and increase the flow
pressure loss. Using 2&3-dimensional analysis on exciting the flow at
the flow way inside a channel by cylindrical block at the same time
with the external flow, we came to this conclusion that the heat flux
transferred from the surface, is increased considerably in terms of the
condition without excitation. Also, the k-e turbulence model is used.
Abstract: IEEE 802.11e is the enhanced version of the IEEE
802.11 MAC dedicated to provide Quality of Service of wireless
network. It supports QoS by the service differentiation and
prioritization mechanism. Data traffic receives different priority
based on QoS requirements. Fundamentally, applications are divided
into four Access Categories (AC). Each AC has its own buffer queue
and behaves as an independent backoff entity. Every frame with a
specific priority of data traffic is assigned to one of these access
categories. IEEE 802.11e EDCA (Enhanced Distributed Channel
Access) is designed to enhance the IEEE 802.11 DCF (Distributed
Coordination Function) mechanisms by providing a distributed
access method that can support service differentiation among
different classes of traffic. Performance of IEEE 802.11e MAC layer
with different ACs is evaluated to understand the actual benefits
deriving from the MAC enhancements.
Abstract: In this paper, we consider a multi user multiple input
multiple output (MU-MIMO) based cooperative reporting system for
cognitive radio network. In the reporting network, the secondary
users forward the primary user data to the common fusion center
(FC). The FC is equipped with linear equalizers and an energy
detector to make the decision about the spectrum. The primary user
data are considered to be a digital video broadcasting - terrestrial
(DVB-T) signal. The sensing channel and the reporting channel are
assumed to be an additive white Gaussian noise and an independent
identically distributed Raleigh fading respectively. We analyzed the
detection probability of MU-MIMO system with linear equalizers and
arrived at the closed form expression for average detection
probability. Also the system performance is investigated under
various MIMO scenarios through Monte Carlo simulations.

Abstract: In this paper, for the first time, a two-dimensional
(2D) analytical drain current model for sub-100 nm multi-layered
gate material engineered trapezoidal recessed channel (MLGMETRC)
MOSFET: a novel design is presented and investigated using
ATLAS and DEVEDIT device simulators, to mitigate the large gate
leakages and increased standby power consumption that arise due to
continued scaling of SiO2-based gate dielectrics. The twodimensional
(2D) analytical model based on solution of Poisson-s

potential, electric field, drain current, switching metric: ION/IOFF
ratio and transconductance for the proposed design. A good
agreement between the model predictions and device simulation
results is obtained, verifying the accuracy of the proposed analytical
model.
Abstract: This paper proposes a VPN Accelerator Board
(VPN-AB), a virtual private network (VPN) protocol designed for
trust channel security system (TCSS). TCSS supports safety
communication channel between security nodes in internet. It
furnishes authentication, confidentiality, integrity, and access control
to security node to transmit data packets with IPsec protocol. TCSS
consists of internet key exchange block, security association block,
and IPsec engine block. The internet key exchange block negotiates
crypto algorithm and key used in IPsec engine block. Security
Association blocks setting-up and manages security association
information. IPsec engine block treats IPsec packets and consists of
networking functions for communication. The IPsec engine block
should be embodied by H/W and in-line mode transaction for high
speed IPsec processing. Our VPN-AB is implemented with high speed
security processor that supports many cryptographic algorithms and
in-line mode. We evaluate a small TCSS communication environment,
and measure a performance of VPN-AB in the environment. The
experiment results show that VPN-AB gets a performance throughput
of maximum 15.645Gbps when we set the IPsec protocol with
3DES-HMAC-MD5 tunnel mode.
Abstract: Guard channels improve the probability of successful
handoffs by reserving a number of channels exclusively for handoffs.
This concept has the risk of underutilization of radio spectrum due to
the fact that fewer channels are granted to originating calls even if
these guard channels are not always used, when originating calls are
starving for the want of channels. The penalty is the reduction of
total carried traffic. The optimum number of guard channels can help
reduce this problem. This paper presents fuzzy logic based guard
channel scheme wherein guard channels are reorganized on the basis
of traffic density, so that guard channels are provided on need basis.
This will help in incorporating more originating calls and hence high
throughput of the radio spectrum
Abstract: In this paper we propose an enhanced equalization technique for multi-carrier code division multiple access (MC-CDMA). This method is based on the control of Equal Gain Combining (EGC) technique. Indeed, we introduce a new level changer to the EGC equalizer in order to adapt the equalization parameters to the channel coefficients. The optimal equalization level is, first, determined by channel training. The new approach reduces drastically the mutliuser interferences caused by interferes, without increasing the noise power. To compare the performances of the proposed equalizer, the theoretical analysis and numerical performances are given.

Abstract: The paper presents frame and burst acquisition in a satellite communication network based on time division multiple access (TDMA) in which the transmissions may be carried on different transponders. A unique word pattern is used for the acquisition process. The search for the frame is aided by soft-decision of QPSK modulated signals in an additive white Gaussian channel. Results show that when the false alarm rate is low the probability of detection is also low, and the acquisition time is long. Conversely when the false alarm rate is high, the probability of detection is also high and the acquisition time is short. Thus the system operators can trade high false alarm rates for high detection probabilities and shorter acquisition times.
Abstract: There is need to explore emerging technologies based on carbon nanotube electronics as the MOS technology is approaching its limits. As MOS devices scale to the nano ranges, increased short channel effects and process variations considerably effect device and circuit designs. As a promising new transistor, the Carbon Nanotube Field Effect Transistor(CNTFET) avoids most of the fundamental limitations of the Traditional MOSFET devices. In this paper we present the analysis and comparision of a Carbon Nanotube FET(CNTFET) based 10(A current mirror with MOSFET for 32nm technology node. The comparision shows the superiority of the former in terms of 97% increase in output resistance,24% decrease in power dissipation and 40% decrease in minimum voltage required for constant saturation current. Furthermore the effect on performance of current mirror due to change in chirality vector of CNT has also been investigated. The circuit simulations are carried out using HSPICE model.
