Abstract: We consider power system expansion planning under
uncertainty. In our approach, integer programming and stochastic
programming provide a basic framework. We develop a multistage
stochastic programming model in which some of the variables are
restricted to integer values. By utilizing the special property of the
problem, called block separable recourse, the problem is transformed
into a two-stage stochastic program with recourse. The electric power
capacity expansion problem is reformulated as the problem with first
stage integer variables and continuous second stage variables. The
L-shaped algorithm to solve the problem is proposed.
Abstract: In the current context of globalization, a large number of companies sought to develop as a group in order to reach to other markets or meet the necessary criteria for listing on a stock exchange. The issue of consolidated financial statements prepared by a parent, an investor or a venture and the financial reporting standards guiding them therefore becomes even more important. The aim of our paper is to expose this issue in a consistent manner, first by summarizing the international accounting and financial reporting standards applicable before the 1st of January 2013 and considering the role of the crisis in shaping the standard setting process, and secondly by analyzing the newly issued/modified standards and main changes being brought
Abstract: Analysis of heart rate variability (HRV) has become a
popular non-invasive tool for assessing the activities of autonomic
nervous system. Most of the methods were hired from techniques
used for time series analysis. Currently used methods are time
domain, frequency domain, geometrical and fractal methods. A new
technique, which searches for pattern repeatability in a time series, is
proposed for quantifying heart rate (HR) time series. These set of
indices, which are termed as pattern repeatability measure and
pattern repeatability ratio are able to distinguish HR data clearly
from noise and electroencephalogram (EEG). The results of analysis
using these measures give an insight into the fundamental difference
between the composition of HR time series with respect to EEG and
noise.
Abstract: International trade involves both large and small firms
engaged in business overseas. Possible drivers that force companies
to enter international markets include increasing competition at the
domestic market, maturing domestic markets, and limited domestic
market opportunities. Technology is an important driving factor in
shaping international marketing strategy as well as in driving force
towards a more global marketplace, especially technology in
communication. It includes telephones, the internet, computer
systems and e-mail. There are three main marketing strategy choices,
namely standardization approach, adaptation approach and middleof-
the-road approach that companies implement to overseas markets.
The decision depends on situations and factors facing the companies
in the international markets. In this paper, the contingency concept is
considered that no single strategy can be effective in all contexts.
The effect of strategy on performance depends on specific situational
variables. Strategic fit is employed to investigate export marketing
strategy adaptation under certain environmental conditions, which in
turn can lead to superior performance.
Abstract: In today scenario, to meet enhanced demand imposed
by domestic, commercial and industrial consumers, various
operational & control activities of Radial Distribution Network
(RDN) requires a focused attention. Irrespective of sub-domains
research aspects of RDN like network reconfiguration, reactive
power compensation and economic load scheduling etc, network
performance parameters are usually estimated by an iterative process
and is commonly known as load (power) flow algorithm. In this
paper, a simple mechanism is presented to implement the load flow
analysis (LFA) algorithm. The reported algorithm utilizes graph
theory principles and is tested on a 69- bus RDN.
Abstract: Water level forecasting using records of past time series is of importance in water resources engineering and management. For example, water level affects groundwater tables in low-lying coastal areas, as well as hydrological regimes of some coastal rivers. Then, a reliable prediction of sea-level variations is required in coastal engineering and hydrologic studies. During the past two decades, the approaches based on the Genetic Programming (GP) and Artificial Neural Networks (ANN) were developed. In the present study, the GP is used to forecast daily water level variations for a set of time intervals using observed water levels. The measurements from a single tide gauge at Urmia Lake, Northwest Iran, were used to train and validate the GP approach for the period from January 1997 to July 2008. Statistics, the root mean square error and correlation coefficient, are used to verify model by comparing with a corresponding outputs from Artificial Neural Network model. The results show that both these artificial intelligence methodologies are satisfactory and can be considered as alternatives to the conventional harmonic analysis.
Abstract: Due to environmental concerns, the recent regulation on automobile fuel economy has been strengthened. The market demand for efficient vehicles is growing and automakers to improve engine fuel efficiency in the industry have been paying a lot of effort. To improve the fuel efficiency, it is necessary to reduce losses or to improve combustion efficiency of the engine. VVA (Variable Valve Actuation) technology enhances the engine's intake air flow, reduce pumping losses and mechanical friction losses. And also, VVA technology is the engine's low speed and high speed operation to implement each of appropriate valve lift. It improves the performance of engine in the entire operating range. This paper presents a design procedure of DC motor and drive for VVA system and shows the validity of the design result by experimental result with prototype.

analyzed to examine the influence of the science teachers- preference
in experimental teaching on the relationships between the affective
variables ( the perceived usefulness of science, ease of using science
and science learning interest) and the academic achievement in science.
After dealing with the missing data, 3711 students and 145 science
teacher-s data were analyzed through a Hierarchical Linear Modeling
technique. The major objective of this study was to determine the role
of the experimental teaching moderates the relationship between
perceived usefulness and achievement.
Abstract: The structural interpretation of a part of eastern Potwar
(Missa Keswal) has been carried out with available seismological,
seismic and well data. Seismological data contains both the source
parameters and fault plane solution (FPS) parameters and seismic data
contains ten seismic lines that were re-interpreted by using well data.
Structural interpretation depicts two broad types of fault sets namely,
thrust and back thrust faults. These faults together give rise to pop up
structures in the study area and also responsible for many structural
traps and seismicity. Seismic interpretation includes time and depth
contour maps of Chorgali Formation while seismological interpretation
includes focal mechanism solution (FMS), depth, frequency,
magnitude bar graphs and renewal of Seismotectonic map. The Focal
Mechanism Solutions (FMS) that surrounds the study area are
correlated with the different geological and structural maps of the area
for the determination of the nature of subsurface faults. Results of
structural interpretation from both seismic and seismological data
show good correlation. It is hoped that the present work will help in
better understanding of the variations in the subsurface structure and
can be a useful tool for earthquake prediction, planning of oil field and
reservoir monitoring.
Abstract: The length of a given rational B'ezier curve is
efficiently estimated. Since a rational B'ezier function is nonlinear,
it is usually impossible to evaluate its length exactly. The
length is approximated by using subdivision and the accuracy
of the approximation n is investigated. In order to improve
the efficiency, adaptivity is used with some length estimator.
A rigorous theoretical analysis of the rate of convergence of
n to is given. The required number of subdivisions to
attain a prescribed accuracy is also analyzed. An application
to CAD parametrization is briefly described. Numerical results
are reported to supplement the theory.
Abstract: In this paper, we study the pulsatile flow of blood through stenotic arteries. The inner layer of arterial walls is modeled as a porous medium and human blood is assumed as an incompressible fluid. A numerical algorithm based on the finite element method is developed to simulate the blood flow through both the lumen region and the porous wall. The algorithm is then applied to study the flow behaviour and to investigate the significance of the non-Newtonian effect.
Abstract: The importance of supply chain and logistics
management has been widely recognised. Effective management of
the supply chain can reduce costs and lead times and improve
responsiveness to changing customer demands. This paper proposes a
multi-matrix real-coded Generic Algorithm (MRGA) based
optimisation tool that minimises total costs associated within supply
chain logistics. According to finite capacity constraints of all parties
within the chain, Genetic Algorithm (GA) often produces infeasible
chromosomes during initialisation and evolution processes. In the
proposed algorithm, chromosome initialisation procedure, crossover
and mutation operations that always guarantee feasible solutions
were embedded. The proposed algorithm was tested using three sizes
of benchmarking dataset of logistic chain network, which are typical
of those faced by most global manufacturing companies. A half
fractional factorial design was carried out to investigate the influence
of alternative crossover and mutation operators by varying GA
parameters. The analysis of experimental results suggested that the
quality of solutions obtained is sensitive to the ways in which the
genetic parameters and operators are set.
Abstract: Bioprocesses are appreciated as difficult to control because their dynamic behavior is highly nonlinear and time varying, in particular, when they are operating in fed batch mode. The research objective of this study was to develop an appropriate control method for a complex bioprocess and to implement it on a laboratory plant. Hence, an intelligent control structure has been designed in order to produce biomass and to maximize the specific growth rate.
Abstract: This paper presents the novel Rao-Blackwellised
particle filter (RBPF) for mobile robot simultaneous localization and
mapping (SLAM) using monocular vision. The particle filter is
combined with unscented Kalman filter (UKF) to extending the path
posterior by sampling new poses that integrate the current observation
which drastically reduces the uncertainty about the robot pose. The
landmark position estimation and update is also implemented through
UKF. Furthermore, the number of resampling steps is determined
adaptively, which seriously reduces the particle depletion problem,
and introducing the evolution strategies (ES) for avoiding particle
impoverishment. The 3D natural point landmarks are structured with
matching Scale Invariant Feature Transform (SIFT) feature pairs. The
matching for multi-dimension SIFT features is implemented with a
KD-Tree in the time cost of O(log2
N). Experiment results on real robot
in our indoor environment show the advantages of our methods over
previous approaches.
Abstract: Deep Brain Stimulation or DBS is a surgical treatment for Parkinson-s Disease with three stimulation parameters: frequency, pulse width, and voltage. The parameters should be selected appropriately to achieve effective treatment. This selection now, performs clinically. The aim of this research is to study chaotic behavior of recorded tremor of patients under DBS in order to present a computational method to recognize stimulation optimum voltage. We obtained some chaotic features of tremor signal, and discovered embedding space of it has an attractor, and its largest Lyapunov exponent is positive, which show tremor signal has chaotic behavior, also we found out, in optimal voltage, entropy and embedding space variance of tremor signal have minimum values in comparison with other voltages. These differences can help neurologists recognize optimal voltage numerically, which leads to reduce patients' role and discomfort in optimizing stimulation parameters and to do treatment with high accuracy.
Abstract: A SCADA (Supervisory Control And Data
Acquisition) system is an industrial control and monitoring system for
national infrastructures. The SCADA systems were used in a closed
environment without considering about security functionality in the
past. As communication technology develops, they try to connect the
SCADA systems to an open network. Therefore, the security of the
SCADA systems has been an issue. The study of key management for
SCADA system also has been performed. However, existing key
management schemes for SCADA system such as SKE(Key
establishment for SCADA systems) and SKMA(Key management
scheme for SCADA systems) cannot support broadcasting
communication. To solve this problem, an Advanced Key
Management Architecture for Secure SCADA Communication has
been proposed by Choi et al.. Choi et al.-s scheme also has a problem
that it requires lots of computational cost for multicasting
communication. In this paper, we propose an enhanced scheme which
improving computational cost for multicasting communication with
considering the number of keys to be stored in a low power
communication device (RTU).
Abstract: Estimating the reliability of a computer network has been a subject of great interest. It is a well known fact that this problem is NP-hard. In this paper we present a very efficient combinatorial approach for Monte Carlo reliability estimation of a network with unreliable nodes and unreliable edges. Its core is the computation of some network combinatorial invariants. These invariants, once computed, directly provide pure and simple framework for computation of network reliability. As a specific case of this approach we obtain tight lower and upper bounds for distributed network reliability (the so called residual connectedness reliability). We also present some simulation results.
Abstract: The virulent debates that have dogged research on,
and the diffusion of, a wide range of technologies indicate a growing
loss of confidence in what we might call, the techno-scientific
endeavour to reshape the world. Utopian images of a world rendered
ever more amenable to human desires are now closely shadowed by
just as compelling dystopian visions of monstrosity and disaster that
are nevertheless constructed from the same cultural material. The
paper uses the case of the debates over developments in reproductive
technology to offer some observations on the ways in which such
technologies routinely become enmirred in cultural ambivalence.
Abstract: We compare three categorical data clustering
algorithms with respect to the problem of classifying cultural data
related to the aesthetic judgment of comics artists. Such a
classification is very important in Comics Art theory since the
determination of any classes of similarities in such kind of data will
provide to art-historians very fruitful information of Comics Art-s
evolution. To establish this, we use a categorical data set and we
study it by employing three categorical data clustering algorithms.
The performances of these algorithms are compared each other,
while interpretations of the clustering results are also given.
Abstract: In this paper, we proposed an invention of an
accessory into a communication device that will help humans to be
connected universally. Generally, this device will be made up of
crystal and will combine many technologies that will enable the user
to run various applications and software anywhere and everywhere.
Bringing up the concept of from being user friendly, we had used the
crystal as the main material of the device that will trap the
surrounding lights to produce projection of its screen. This leads to a
lesser energy consumption and allows smaller sized battery to be
used, making the device less bulky. Additionally, we proposed the
usage of micro batteries as our energy source. Thus, researches
regarding crystal were made along with explanations in details of
specification and function of the technology used in the device.
Finally, we had also drawn several views of the invention from
different sides to be visualized.
