Abstract: Voltage sags are the most common power quality
disturbance in the distribution system. It occurs due to the fault in the
electrical network or by the starting of a large induction motor and
this can be solved by using the custom power devices such as
Dynamic Voltage Restorer (DVR). In this paper DVR is proposed to
compensate voltage sags on critical loads dynamically. The DVR
consists of VSC, injection transformers, passive filters and energy
storage (lead acid battery). By injecting an appropriate voltage, the
DVR restores a voltage waveform and ensures constant load voltage.
The simulation and experimental results of a DVR using MATLAB
software shows clearly the performance of the DVR in mitigating
voltage sags.
Abstract: This research proposes a novel reconstruction protocol
for restoring missing surfaces and low-quality edges and shapes in
photos of artifacts at historical sites. The protocol starts with the
extraction of a cloud of points. This extraction process is based on
four subordinate algorithms, which differ in the robustness and
amount of resultant. Moreover, they use different -but
complementary- accuracy to some related features and to the way
they build a quality mesh. The performance of our proposed protocol
is compared with other state-of-the-art algorithms and toolkits. The
statistical analysis shows that our algorithm significantly outperforms
its rivals in the resultant quality of its object files used to reconstruct
the desired model.
Abstract: Researches and concerns in power quality gained
significant momentum in the field of power electronics systems over
the last two decades globally. This sudden increase in the number of
concerns over power quality problems is a result of the huge increase
in the use of non-linear loads. In this paper, power quality evaluation
of some distribution networks at Misurata - Libya has been done
using a power quality and energy analyzer (Fluke 437 Series II). The
results of this evaluation are used to minimize the problems of power
quality. The analysis shows the main power quality problems that
exist and the level of awareness of power quality issues with the aim
of generating a start point which can be used as guidelines for
researchers and end users in the field of power systems.
Abstract: The fight against climate change and the replacement
of fossil energies nearing exhaustion gradually emerge as major
societal and economic challenges. It is possible to develop common
dates of low commercial value, and put on the local and international
market a new generation of products with high added values such as
bio ethanol. Besides its use in chemical synthesis, bio ethanol can be
blended with gasoline to produce a clean fuel while improving the
octane.
Abstract: In this paper the vibration of a synchronous belt drive
during start-up is analyzed and discussed. Besides considering the
belt elasticity, the model here proposed also takes into consideration
the electromagnetic response of the DC motor. The solution of the
motion equations is obtained by means of the modal analysis in
state space, which allows to obtain the decoupling of all equations,
without introducing the hypothesis of proportional damping. The
mathematical model of the transmission and the solution algorithms
have been implemented within a computing software that allows the
user to simulate the dynamics of the system and to evaluate the effects
due to the elasticity of the belt branches and to the electromagnetic
behavior of the DC motor. In order to show the details of the
calculation procedure, the paper presents a case study developed with
the aid of the above-mentioned software.
Abstract: The concept of corporate social responsibility (CSR) in the Czech Republic has evolved notably during the last few years and an issue that started as an interest- and motive-based activity for businesses is becoming more commonplace. Governments have a role to play in ensuring that corporations behave according to the rules and norms of society and can legislate, foster, collaborate with businesses and endorse good practice in order to facilitate the development of CSR. The purpose of this paper is to examine the opportunities and options of CSR in government policy and research its relevance to a business sector. An increasing number of companies is engaging in responsible activities, the public awareness of CSR is rising, and customers are giving higher importance to CSR of companies in their choice. By drawing on existing CSR approach in Czech and understanding of CSR are demonstrated. The paper provides an overview, more detailed government approach of CSR.
Abstract: This article deals with the perceived quality of regional products in the Moravian-Silesian region in the Czech Republic. Research was focused on finding out what do consumers perceive as a quality product and what characteristics make a quality product. The data were obtained by questionnaire survey andanalysed by IBM SPSS. From the thousands of respondents the representative sample of 719 for MS region was created based on demographic factors of gender, age, education and income. The research analysis disclosed that consumers in MS region are still price oriented and that the preference of quality over price does not depend on regional brand knowledge.
Abstract: In the past, the most comprehensively adopted light
source was incandescent light bulbs, but with the appearance of LED
light sources, traditional light sources have been gradually replaced by
LEDs because of its numerous superior characteristics. However,
many of the standards do not apply to LEDs as the two light sources
are characterized differently. This also intensifies the significance of
studies on LEDs. As a Kansei design study investigating the visual
glare produced by traffic arrows implemented with LEDs, this study
conducted a semantic analysis on the styles of traffic arrows used in
domestic and international occasions. The results will be able to
reduce drivers’ misrecognition that results in the unsuccessful arrival
at the destination, or in traffic accidents. This study started with a
literature review and surveyed the status quo before conducting
experiments that were divided in two parts. The first part involved a
screening experiment of arrow samples, where cluster analysis was
conducted to choose five representative samples of LED displays. The
second part was a semantic experiment on the display of arrows using
LEDs, where the five representative samples and the selected ten
adjectives were incorporated. Analyzing the results with
Quantification Theory Type I, it was found that among the
composition of arrows, fletching was the most significant factor that
influenced the adjectives. In contrast, a “no fletching” design was
more abstract and vague. It lacked the ability to convey the intended
message and might bear psychological negative connotation including
“dangerous,” “forbidden,” and “unreliable.” The arrow design
consisting of “> shaped fletching” was found to be more concrete and
definite, showing positive connotation including “safe,” “cautious,”
and “reliable.” When a stimulus was placed at a farther distance, the
glare could be significantly reduced; moreover, the visual evaluation
scores would be higher. On the contrary, if the fletching and the shaft
had a similar proportion, looking at the stimuli caused higher
evaluation at a closer distance. The above results will be able to be
applied to the design of traffic arrows by conveying information
definitely and rapidly. In addition, drivers’ safety could be enhanced
by understanding the cause of glare and improving visual
recognizability.
Abstract: Today, the means of following the developments in
the area of science and technology is to keep up with the pace of the
advancements in this area. As is in every profession, apart from their
personal efforts, the training of teachers in the period after they start
their careers is only possible through in-service training. The aim of
the present study is to determine the views of Information
Technologies (IT) teachers regarding the in-service training courses
organized by the Ministry of National Education. In this study, in
which quantitative research methods and techniques were employed,
the views of 196 IT teachers were collected by using the “Views on
In-service Training” questionnaire developed by the authors of the
paper. Independent groups t-test was used to determine whether the
views of IT teachers regarding in-service training differed depending
on gender, age and professional seniority. One-way analysis of
variance (ANOVA) was used to investigate whether the views of IT
teachers regarding in-service training differed depending on the
number of in-service training courses they joined and the type of inservice
training course they wanted to take. According to the findings
obtained in the study, the views of IT teachers on in-service training
did not show a significant difference depending on gender and age,
whereas those views differed depending on professional seniority, the
number of in-service training courses they joined and the type of inservice
training course they wanted to take.
Abstract: In this paper, a backward semi-Lagrangian scheme
combined with the second-order backward difference formula
is designed to calculate the numerical solutions of nonlinear
advection-diffusion equations. The primary aims of this paper are
to remove any iteration process and to get an efficient algorithm
with the convergence order of accuracy 2 in time. In order to achieve
these objects, we use the second-order central finite difference and the
B-spline approximations of degree 2 and 3 in order to approximate
the diffusion term and the spatial discretization, respectively. For the
temporal discretization, the second order backward difference formula
is applied. To calculate the numerical solution of the starting point
of the characteristic curves, we use the error correction methodology
developed by the authors recently. The proposed algorithm turns out
to be completely iteration free, which resolves the main weakness
of the conventional backward semi-Lagrangian method. Also, the
adaptability of the proposed method is indicated by numerical
simulations for Burgers’ equations. Throughout these numerical
simulations, it is shown that the numerical results is in good
agreement with the analytic solution and the present scheme offer
better accuracy in comparison with other existing numerical schemes.

For this purpose, the discrete wavelet transform is used. Data are obtained from simulations, using winding function approach. The results show the validity of the approach for detecting the fault and discriminating with respect to other faults.
Abstract: Accurate Short Term Load Forecasting (STLF) is essential for a variety of decision making processes. However, forecasting accuracy can drop due to the presence of uncertainty in the operation of energy systems or unexpected behavior of exogenous variables. Interval Type 2 Fuzzy Logic System (IT2 FLS), with additional degrees of freedom, gives an excellent tool for handling uncertainties and it improved the prediction accuracy. The training data used in this study covers the period from January 1, 2012 to February 1, 2012 for winter season and the period from July 1, 2012 to August 1, 2012 for summer season. The actual load forecasting period starts from January 22, till 28, 2012 for winter model and from July 22 till 28, 2012 for summer model. Abstract: The design of an optimised horizontal axis 5-meter-long wind turbine rotor blade in according with IEC 61400-2 standard is a research and development project in order to fulfil the requirements of high efficiency of torque from wind production and to optimise the structural components to the lightest and strongest way possible. For this purpose, a research study is presented here by focusing on the structural characteristics of a composite wind turbine blade via finite element modelling and analysis tools. In this work, first, the required data regarding the general geometrical parts are gathered. Then, the airfoil geometries are created at various sections along the span of the blade by using CATIA software to obtain the two surfaces, namely; the suction and the pressure side of the blade in which there is a hat shaped fibre reinforced plastic spar beam, so-called chassis starting at 0.5m from the root of the blade and extends up to 4 m and filled with a foam core. The root part connecting the blade to the main rotor differential metallic hub having twelve hollow threaded studs is then modelled. The materials are assigned as two different types of glass fabrics, polymeric foam core material and the steel-balsa wood combination for the root connection parts. The glass fabrics are applied using hand wet lay-up lamination with epoxy resin as METYX L600E10C-0, is the unidirectional continuous fibres and METYX XL800E10F having a tri-axial architecture with fibres in the 0,+45,-45 degree orientations in a ratio of 2:1:1. Divinycell H45 is used as the polymeric foam. The finite element modelling of the blade is performed via MSC PATRAN software with various meshes created on each structural part considering shell type for all surface geometries, and lumped mass were added to simulate extra adhesive locations. For the static analysis, the boundary conditions are assigned as fixed at the root through aforementioned bolts, where for dynamic analysis both fixed-free and free-free boundary conditions are made. By also taking the mesh independency into account, MSC NASTRAN is used as a solver for both analyses. The static analysis aims the tip deflection of the blade under its own weight and the dynamic analysis comprises normal mode dynamic analysis performed in order to obtain the natural frequencies and corresponding mode shapes focusing the first five in and out-of-plane bending and the torsional modes of the blade. The analyses results of this study are then used as a benchmark prior to modal testing, where the experiments over the produced wind turbine rotor blade has approved the analytical calculations.
Abstract: The protective effect of hesperidin was investigated in
rats exposed to liver injury induced by a single intraperitoneal
injection of cyclophosphamide (CYP) at a dose of 150 mg kg-1.
Hesperidin treatment (100 mg kg-1/day, orally) was applied for seven
days, starting five days before CYP administration. Hesperidin
significantly decreased the CYP-induced elevations of serum alanine
aminotransferase, and hepatic malondialdehyde and myeloperoxidase
activity, significantly prevented the depletion of hepatic glutathione
peroxidase activity resulted from CYP administration. Also,
hesperidin ameliorated the CYP-induced liver tissue injury observed
by histopathological examination. In addition, hesperidin decreased
the CYP-induced expression of inducible nitric oxide synthase, tumor
necrosis factor-α, cyclooxygenase-2, Fas ligand, and caspase-9 in
liver tissue. It was concluded that hesperidin may represent a
potential candidate to protect against CYP-induced hepatotoxicity.
Abstract: Negotiation is a specific form of interaction based on communication in which the parties enter into deliberately, each with clear but different interests or goals and a mutual dependency towards a decision due to be taken at the end of the confrontation. Consequently, negotiation is a complex activity involving many different disciplines from the strategic aspects and the decision making process to the evaluation of alternatives or outcomes and the exchange of information. While gender differences can be considered as one of the most researched topic within negotiation studies, empirical works and theory present many conflicting evidences and results about the role of gender in the process or the outcome. Furthermore, little interest has been shown over gender differences in the definition of what is negotiation, its essence or fundamental elements. Or, as differences exist in practices, it might be essential to study if the starting point of these discrepancies does not come from different considerations about what is negotiation and what will encourage the participants in their strategic decisions. Some recent and promising experiments made with diverse groups show that male and female participants in a common and shared situation barely consider the same way the concepts of power, trust or stakes which are largely considered as the usual driving forces of any negotiation. Furthermore, results from Human Resource self-assessment tests display and confirm considerable differences between individuals regarding essential behavioral dimensions like capacity to improvise and to achieve, aptitude to conciliate or to compete and orientation towards power and group domination which are also part of negotiation skills. Our intention in this paper is to confront these dimensions with negotiation’s usual driving forces in order to build up new paths for further research.
Abstract: Zinc borate is an important boron compound that can be used as multi-functional flame retardant additive due to its high dehydration temperature property. In this study, theraw materials of ZnSO4.7H2O, NaOH and H3BO3werecharacterized by X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) and Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FT-IR) and used in the synthesis of zinc borates. The synthesis parameters were set to 100°C reaction temperature and 120 minutes of reaction time, with different molar ratio of starting materials (ZnSO4.7H2O:NaOH:H3BO3). After the zinc borate synthesis, the identifications of the products were conducted by XRD and FT-IR. As a result,Zinc Oxide Borate Hydrate [Zn3B6O12.3.5H2O], were synthesized at the molar ratios of 1:1:3, 1:1:4, 1:2:5 and 1:2:6. Among these ratios 1:2:6 had the best results.
Abstract: In a perfect secret-sharing scheme, a dealer distributes
a secret among a set of participants in such a way that only qualified
subsets of participants can recover the secret and the joint share of the
participants in any unqualified subset is statistically independent of
the secret. The access structure of the scheme refers to the collection
of all qualified subsets. In a graph-based access structures, each vertex
of a graph G represents a participant and each edge of G represents a
minimal qualified subset. The average information ratio of a perfect
secret-sharing scheme realizing a given access structure is the ratio
of the average length of the shares given to the participants to the
length of the secret. The infimum of the average information ratio
of all possible perfect secret-sharing schemes realizing an access
structure is called the optimal average information ratio of that access
structure. We study the optimal average information ratio of the
access structures based on bipartite graphs. Based on some previous
results, we give a bound on the optimal average information ratio
for all bipartite graphs of girth at least six. This bound is the best
possible for some classes of bipartite graphs using our approach.
Abstract: This paper discusses the performance of critical
trajectory method (CTrj) for power system transient stability analysis
under various loading settings and heavy fault condition. The method
obtains Controlling Unstable Equilibrium Point (CUEP) which is
essential for estimation of power system stability margins. The CUEP
is computed by applying the CTrjto the boundary controlling unstable
equilibrium point (BCU) method. The Proposed method computes a
trajectory on the stability boundary that starts from the exit point and
reaches CUEP under certain assumptions. The robustness and
effectiveness of the method are demonstrated via six power system
models and five loading conditions. As benchmark is used
conventional simulation method whereas the performance is compared
with and BCU Shadowing method.
Abstract: This paper presents a complete dynamic modeling
of a membrane distillation process. The model contains two
consistent dynamic models. A 2D advection-diffusion equation
for modeling the whole process and a modified heat equation
for modeling the membrane itself. The complete model describes
the temperature diffusion phenomenon across the feed, membrane,
permeate containers and boundary layers of the membrane. It gives
an online and complete temperature profile for each point in the
domain. It explains heat conduction and convection mechanisms that
take place inside the process in terms of mathematical parameters, and
justify process behavior during transient and steady state phases. The
process is monitored for any sudden change in the performance at any
instance of time. In addition, it assists maintaining production rates
as desired, and gives recommendations during membrane fabrication
stages. System performance and parameters can be optimized
and controlled using this complete dynamic model. Evolution of
membrane boundary temperature with time, vapor mass transfer along
the process, and temperature difference between membrane boundary
layers are depicted and included. Simulations were performed over
the complete model with real membrane specifications. The plots
show consistency between 2D advection-diffusion model and the
expected behavior of the systems as well as literature. Evolution
of heat inside the membrane starting from transient response till
reaching steady state response for fixed and varying times is
illustrated.
