Abstract: The arm length, hand length, hand breadth and middle
finger length of 1540 right-handed industrial workers of Haryana
state was used to assess the relationship between the upper limb
dimensions and stature. Initially, the data were analyzed using basic
univariate analysis and independent t-tests; then simple and multiple
linear regression models were used to estimate stature using SPSS
(version 17). There was a positive correlation between upper limb
measurements (hand length, hand breadth, arm length and middle
finger length) and stature (p < 0.01), which was highest for hand
length. The accuracy of stature prediction ranged from ± 54.897 mm
to ± 58.307 mm. The use of multiple regression equations gave better
results than simple regression equations. This study provides new
forensic standards for stature estimation from the upper limb
measurements of male industrial workers of Haryana (India). The
results of this research indicate that stature can be determined using
hand dimensions with accuracy, when only upper limb is available
due to any reasons likewise explosions, train/plane crashes, mutilated
bodies, etc. The regression formula derived in this study will be
useful for anatomists, archaeologists, anthropologists, design
engineers and forensic scientists for fairly prediction of stature using
regression equations.
Abstract: These days customer satisfaction plays vital role in
any business. When customer searches for a product, significantly a
junk of irrelevant information is what is given, leading to customer
dissatisfaction. To provide exactly relevant information on the
searched product, we are proposing a model of KaaS (Knowledge as
a Service), which pre-processes the information using decision
making paradigm using Multi-agents.
Information obtained from various sources is taken to derive
knowledge and they are linked to Cloud to capture new idea. The
main focus of this work is to acquire relevant information
(knowledge) related to product, then convert this knowledge into a
service for customer satisfaction and deploy on cloud.
For achieving these objectives we are have opted to use multi
agents. They are communicating and interacting with each other,
manipulate information, provide knowledge, to take decisions. The
paper discusses about KaaS as an intelligent approach for Knowledge
acquisition.
Abstract: This paper describes an Action Research project
which was undertaken to inform professional practice in order to
develop a newly created Centre for Student Success in the specific
context of transnational medical and nursing education in the Middle
East. The objectives were to enhance the academic performance,
persistence, integration and personal and professional development of
a multinational study body, in particular in relation to pre-clinical
medical students, and to establish a comfortable, friendly and
student-driven environment within an Irish medical university
recently established in Bahrain. The outcomes of the project resulted
in the development of a specific student success ‘signature’ for this
particular transnational higher education context.
Abstract: The main purpose of this paper is to determine the
applicability of the constitutional social rights in the so-called
horizontal relations, i.e. the relations between private entities.
Nowadays the constitutional rights are more and more often violated
by private entities and not only by the state. The private entities
interfere with the privacy of individuals, limit their freedom of
expression or disturb their peaceful gatherings. International
corporations subordinate individuals in a way which may limit their
constitutional rights. These new realities determine the new role of
the constitution in protecting human rights.
The paper will aim at answering two important questions. Firstly,
are the private entities obliged to respect the constitutional social
rights of other private entities and can they be liable for violation of
these rights? Secondly, how the constitutional social rights can
receive horizontal effect? Answers to these questions will have a
significant meaning for the popularisation of the practice of applying
the Constitution among the citizens as well as for the courts which
settle disputes between them.
Abstract: A three-dimensional numerical model of
thermoelectric generator (TEG) modules attached to a large chimney
plate is proposed and solved numerically using a control volume based
finite difference formulation. The TEG module consists of a
thermoelectric generator, an elliptical pin-fin heat sink, and a cold
plate for water cooling. In the chimney, the temperature of flue gases is
450-650K. Although the TEG hot-side temperature and thus the
electric power output can be increased by inserting an elliptical pin-fin
heat sink into the chimney tunnel to increase the heat transfer area, the
pin fin heat sink would cause extra pumping power at the same time.
The main purpose of this study is to analyze the effects of geometrical
parameters on the electric power output and chimney pressure drop
characteristics. The effects of different operating conditions, including
various inlet velocities (Vin= 1, 3, 5 m/s), inlet temperatures (Tgas = 450,
550, 650K) and different fin height (0 to 150 mm) are discussed in
detail. The predicted numerical data for the power vs. current (P-I)
curve are in good agreement (within 11%) with the experimental data.
Abstract: R.C.C. buildings with dual structural system
consisting of shear walls (or braces) and moment resisting frames
have been widely used to resist lateral forces during earthquakes. The
dual systems are designed to resist the total design lateral force in
proportion to their lateral stiffness. The response of combination of
braces and shear walls has not yet been studied. The combination
may prove to be more effective to resist lateral forces during
earthquakes. This concept has been applied to regular R.C.C.
buildings provided with shear walls, braces and their combinations.
Abstract: Parabolic solar trough systems have seen limited
deployments in cold northern climates as they are more suitable for
electricity production in southern latitudes. A numerical dynamic
model is developed to simulate troughs installed in cold climates and
validated using a parabolic solar trough facility in Winnipeg. The
model is developed in Simulink and will be utilized to simulate a trigeneration
system for heating, cooling and electricity generation in
remote northern communities. The main objective of this simulation
is to obtain operational data of solar troughs in cold climates and use
the model to determine ways to improve the economics and address
cold weather issues.
In this paper the validated Simulink model is applied to simulate a
solar assisted absorption cooling system along with electricity
generation using Organic Rankine Cycle (ORC) and thermal storage.
A control strategy is employed to distribute the heated oil from solar
collectors among the above three systems considering the
temperature requirements. This modelling provides dynamic
performance results using measured meteorological data recorded
every minute at the solar facility location. The purpose of this
modeling approach is to accurately predict system performance at
each time step considering the solar radiation fluctuations due to
passing clouds. Optimization of the controller in cold temperatures is
another goal of the simulation to for example minimize heat losses in
winter when energy demand is high and solar resources are low.
The solar absorption cooling is modeled to use the generated heat
from the solar trough system and provide cooling in summer for a
greenhouse which is located next to the solar field.
The results of the simulation are presented for a summer day in
Winnipeg which includes comparison of performance parameters of
the absorption cooling and ORC systems at different heat transfer
fluid (HTF) temperatures.
Abstract: In this paper, the exergy analysis of vapor absorption
refrigeration system using LiBr-H2O as working fluid is carried out
with the modified Gouy-Stodola approach rather than the classical
Gouy-Stodola equation and effect of varying input parameters is also
studied on the performance of the system. As the modified approach
uses the concept of effective temperature, the mathematical
expressions for effective temperature have been formulated and
calculated for each component of the system. Various constraints and
equations are used to develop program in EES to solve these
equations. The main aim of this analysis is to determine the
performance of the system and the components having major
irreversible loss. Results show that exergy destruction rate is
considerable in absorber and generator followed by evaporator and
condenser. There is an increase in exergy destruction in generator,
absorber and condenser and decrease in the evaporator by the
modified approach as compared to the conventional approach. The
value of exergy determined by the modified Gouy-Stodola equation
deviates maximum i.e. 26% in the generator as compared to the
exergy calculated by the classical Gouy-Stodola method.
Abstract: This study analyzes the innovative orientation of the
Croatian entrepreneurs. Innovative orientation is represented by the
perceived extent to which an entrepreneur’s product or service or
technology is new, and no other businesses offer the same product.
The sample is extracted from the GEM Croatia Adult Population
Survey dataset for the years 2003-2013. We apply descriptive
statistics, t-test, Chi-square test and logistic regression. Findings
indicate that innovative orientations vary with personal, firm, meso
and macro level variables, and between different stages in
entrepreneurship process. Significant predictors are occupation of the
entrepreneurs, size of the firm and export aspiration for both early
stage and established entrepreneurs. In addition, fear of failure,
expecting to start a new business and seeing an entrepreneurial career
as a desirable choice are predictors of innovative orientation among
early stage entrepreneurs.
Abstract: Today’s VLSI networks demands for high speed. And
in this work the compact form mathematical model for current mode
signalling in VLSI interconnects is presented.RLC interconnect line
is modelled using characteristic impedance of transmission line and
inductive effect. The on-chip inductance effect is dominant at lower
technology node is emulated into an equivalent resistance. First order
transfer function is designed using finite difference equation, Laplace
transform and by applying the boundary conditions at the source and
load termination. It has been observed that the dominant pole
determines system response and delay in the proposed model. The
novel proposed current mode model shows superior performance as
compared to voltage mode signalling. Analysis shows that current
mode signalling in VLSI interconnects provides 2.8 times better
delay performance than voltage mode. Secondly the damping factor
of a lumped RLC circuit is shown to be a useful figure of merit.
Abstract: Nanofibers are effective materials which have
frequently been investigated to produce high quality air filters. As an
environmental approach our aim is to achieve nanofibers by melting.
In spun-bond systems extruder, spin-pump, nozzle package and
attenuator are used. Molten polymer which flows from extruder is
made steady by spin-pump. Regular melt passes through nozzle holes
and forms fibers under high pressure. The fibers pulled from nozzle
are shrunk to micron size by an attenuator; after solidification, they
are collected on a conveyor. In this research different designs of
attenuator system have been studied; and also CFD analysis has been
done on these different designs. Afterwards, one of these designs
tested and finally some optimizations have been done to reduce
pressure loss and increase air velocity.
Abstract: Groundwater inflow to the tunnels is one of the most
important problems in tunneling operation. The objective of this
study is the investigation of model dimension effects on tunnel inflow
assessment in discontinuous rock masses using numerical modeling.
In the numerical simulation, the model dimension has an important
role in prediction of water inflow rate. When the model dimension is
very small, due to low distance to the tunnel border, the model
boundary conditions affect the estimated amount of groundwater flow
into the tunnel and results show a very high inflow to tunnel. Hence,
in this study, the two-dimensional universal distinct element code
(UDEC) used and the impact of different model parameters, such as
tunnel radius, joint spacing, horizontal and vertical model domain
extent has been evaluated. Results show that the model domain extent
is a function of the most significant parameters, which are tunnel
radius and joint spacing.
Abstract: In this paper we propose a discrete tracking control of
nonholonomic mobile robots with two degrees of freedom. The
electromechanical model of a mobile robot moving on a horizontal
surface without slipping, with two rear wheels controlled by two
independent DC electric, and one front roal wheel is considered. We
present backstepping design based on the Euler approximate discretetime
model of a continuous-time plant. Theoretical considerations are
verified by numerical simulation.
Abstract: This paper presents system level CMOS solid-state
nanopore techniques enhancement for speedup next generation
molecular recording and high throughput channels. This discussion
also considers optimum number of base-pair (bp) measurements
through channel as an important role to enhance potential read
accuracy. Effective power consumption estimation offered suitable
range of multi-channel configuration. Nanopore bp extraction model
in statistical method could contribute higher read accuracy with
longer read-length (200 < read-length). Nanopore ionic current
switching with Time Multiplexing (TM) based multichannel readout
system contributed hardware savings.
Abstract: Using the first-principles full-potential linearized
augmented plane wave plus local orbital (FP-LAPW+lo) method
based on density functional theory (DFT), we have investigated the
electronic structure and magnetism of full Heusler alloys Co2ZrGe
and Co2NbB. These compounds are predicted to be half-metallic
ferromagnets (HMFs) with a total magnetic moment of 2.000 B per
formula unit, well consistent with the Slater-Pauling rule.
Calculations show that both the alloys have an indirect band gaps, in
the minority-spin channel of density of states (DOS), with values of
0.58 eV and 0.47 eV for Co2ZrGe and Co2NbB, respectively.
Analysis of the DOS and magnetic moments indicates that their
magnetism is mainly related to the d-d hybridization between the Co
and Zr (or Nb) atoms. The half-metallicity is found to be relatively
robust against volume changes. In addition, an atom inside molecule
AIM formalism and an electron localization function ELF were also
adopted to study the bonding properties of these compounds, building
a bridge between their electronic and bonding behavior.
As they have a good crystallographic compatibility with the lattice of
semiconductors used industrially and negative calculated cohesive
energies with considerable absolute values these two alloys could be
promising magnetic materials in the spintronic field.
Abstract: Real bronchial tree is very complicated piping system.
Analysis of flow and pressure losses in this system is very difficult.
Due to the complex geometry and the very small size in the lower
generations is examination by CFD possible only in the central part
of bronchial tree. For specify the pressure losses of lower generations
is necessary to provide a mathematical equation. Determination of
mathematical formulas for calculation of pressure losses in the real
lungs is time consuming and inefficient process due to its complexity
and diversity. For these calculations is necessary to slightly simplify
the geometry of lungs (same cross-section over the length of
individual generation) or use one of the idealized models of lungs
(Horsfield, Weibel). The article compares the values of pressure
losses obtained from CFD simulation of air flow in the central part of
the real bronchial tree with the values calculated in a slightly
simplified real lungs by using a mathematical relationship derived
from the Bernoulli and continuity equations. The aim of the article is
to analyse the accuracy of the analytical method and its possibility of
use for the calculation of pressure losses in lower generations, which
is difficult to solve by numerical method due to the small geometry.
Abstract: The main goal of this article is to describe the online
flood monitoring and prediction system Floreon+ primarily developed
for the Moravian-Silesian region in the Czech Republic and the basic
process it uses for running automatic rainfall-runoff and
hydrodynamic simulations along with their calibration and
uncertainty modeling. It takes a long time to execute such process
sequentially, which is not acceptable in the online scenario, so the use
of a high performance computing environment is proposed for all
parts of the process to shorten their duration. Finally, a case study on
the Ostravice River catchment is presented that shows actual
durations and their gain from the parallel implementation.
Abstract: In recent years parasitic antenna play major role in
MIMO systems because of their gain and spectral efficiency. In this
paper, single RF chain MIMO transmitter is designed using
reconfigurable parasitic antenna. The Spatial Modulation (SM) is a
recently proposed scheme in MIMO scenario which activates only
one antenna at a time. The SM entirely avoids ICI and IAS, and only
requires a single RF chain at the transmitter. This would switch ON a
single transmit-antenna for data transmission while all the other
antennas are kept silent. The purpose of the parasitic elements is to
change the radiation pattern of the radio waves which is emitted from
the driven element and directing them in one direction and hence
introduces transmit diversity. Diode is connect between the patch and
ground by changing its state (ON and OFF) the parasitic element act
as reflector and director and also capable of steering azimuth and
elevation angle. This can be achieved by changing the input
impedance of each parasitic element through single RF chain. The
switching of diode would select the single parasitic antenna for
spatial modulation. This antenna is expected to achieve maximum
gain with desired efficiency.
Abstract: Generating random numbers are mainly used to create
secret keys or random sequences. It can be carried out by various
techniques. In this paper we present a very simple and efficient
pseudo random number generator (PRNG) based on chaotic maps
and S-Box tables. This technique adopted two main operations one to
generate chaotic values using two logistic maps and the second to
transform them into binary words using random S-Box tables.
The simulation analysis indicates that our PRNG possessing
excellent statistical and cryptographic properties.
Abstract: The feedbacks obtained regarding the sense of
presence from pilot users operating a Mobile Robotic presence
(MRP) system to visit a simulated museum are reported in this paper.
The aim is to investigate how much the perception of system’s
usefulness and ease of use is affected by operators’ sense of social
telepresence (presence) in the remote location. Therefore, scenarios
of visiting a museum are simulated and the user operators are
supposed to perform some regular tasks inside the remote
environment including interaction with local users, navigation and
visiting the artworks. Participants were divided into two groups,
those who had previous experience of operation and interaction with
a MRP system and those who never had experience. Based on the
results, both groups provided different feedbacks. Moreover, there
was a significant association between user’s sense of presence and
their perception of system usefulness and ease of use.
