Abstract: A large number of semantic web service composition
approaches are developed by the research community and one is
more efficient than the other one depending on the particular
situation of use. So a close look at the requirements of ones particular
situation is necessary to find a suitable approach to use. In this paper,
we present a Technique Recommendation System (TRS) which using
a classification of state-of-art semantic web service composition
approaches, can provide the user of the system with the
recommendations regarding the use of service composition approach
based on some parameters regarding situation of use. TRS has
modular architecture and uses the production-rules for knowledge
representation.
Abstract: Knowledge about the magnetic quantities in a magnetic circuit is always of great interest. On the one hand, this information is needed for the simulation of a transformer. On the other hand, parameter studies are more reliable, if the magnetic quantities are derived from a well established model. One possibility to model the 3-phase transformer is by using a magnetic equivalent circuit (MEC). Though this is a well known system, it is often not an easy task to set up such a model for a large number of lumped elements which additionally includes the nonlinear characteristic of the magnetic material. Here we show the setup of a solver for a MEC and the results of the calculation in comparison to measurements taken. The equations of the MEC are based on a rearranged system of the nodal analysis. Thus it is possible to achieve a minimum number of equations, and a clear and simple structure. Hence, it is uncomplicated in its handling and it supports the iteration process. Additional helpful tasks are implemented within the solver to enhance the performance. The electric circuit is described by an electric equivalent circuit (EEC). Our results for the 3-phase transformer demonstrate the computational efficiency of the solver, and show the benefit of the application of a MEC.
Abstract: A theoretical study is conducted to design and explore
the effect of different parameters such as heat loads, the tube size of
piping system, wick thickness, porosity and hole size on the
performance and capability of a Loop Heat Pipe(LHP). This paper
presents a steady state model that describes the different phenomena
inside a LHP. Loop Heat Pipes(LHPs) are two-phase heat transfer
devices with capillary pumping of a working fluid. By their original
design comparing with heat pipes and special properties of the
capillary structure, they-re capable of transferring heat efficiency for
distances up to several meters at any orientation in the gravity field,
or to several meters in a horizontal position. This theoretical model is
described by different relations to satisfy important limits such as
capillary and nucleate boiling. An algorithm is developed to predict
the size of the LHP satisfying the limitations mentioned above for a
wide range of applied loads. Finally, to assess and evaluate the
algorithm and all the relations considered, we have used to design a
new kind of LHP to recover the heat from the exhaust of an actual
Gas Turbine. By finding the results, it showed that we can use the
LHP as a very high efficient device to recover the heat even in high
amount of loads(exhaust of a gas turbine). The sizes of all parts of the
LHP were obtained using the developed algorithm.
Abstract: Polystyrene particles of different sizes are optically
trapped with a gaussian beam from a He-Cd laser operating at 442
nm. The particles are observed to exhibit luminescence after a certain
trapping time followed by an escape from the optical trap. The
observed luminescence is explained in terms of the photodegradation
of the polystyrene backbone. It is speculated that these chemical
modifications also play a role for the escape of the particles from the
trap. Variations of the particle size and the laser power show that
these parameters have a great influence on the observed phenomena.
Abstract: The present study deals with the modeling and simulation of flow through an annular reactor at different hydrodynamic conditions using computational fluid dynamics (CFD) to investigate the flow behavior. CFD modeling was utilized to predict velocity distribution and average velocity in the annular geometry. The results of CFD simulations were compared with the mathematically derived equations and already developed correlations for validation purposes. CFD modeling was found suitable for predicting the flow characteristics in annular geometry under laminar flow conditions. It was observed that CFD also provides local values of the parameters of interest in addition to the average values for the simulated geometry.
Abstract: The purpose of this paper is to investigate the
influence of a number of variables on the conditional mean and
conditional variance of credit spread changes. The empirical analysis
in this paper is conducted within the context of bivariate GARCH-in-
Mean models, using the so-called BEKK parameterization. We show
that credit spread changes are determined by interest-rate and equityreturn
variables, which is in line with theory as provided by the
structural models of default. We also identify the credit spread
change volatility as an important determinant of credit spread
changes, and provide evidence on the transmission of volatility
between the variables under study.
Abstract: This paper examines the use of mechanical aerator for
oxidation-ditch process. The rotor, which controls the aeration, is the
main component of the aeration process. Therefore, the objective of
this study is to find out the variations in overall oxygen transfer
coefficient (KLa) and aeration efficiency (AE) for different
configurations of aerator by varying the parameters viz. speed of
aerator, depth of immersion, blade tip angles so as to yield higher
values of KLa and AE. Six different configurations of aerator were
developed and fabricated in the laboratory and were tested for abovementioned
parameters. The curved blade rotor (CBR) emerged as a
potential aerator with blade tip angle of 47°.
The mathematical models are developed for predicting the
behaviour of CBR w.r.t kLa and power. In laboratory studies, the
optimum value of KLa and AE were observed to be 10.33 h-1 and
2.269 kg O2/ kWh.
Abstract: With the aim of improving nutritional profile and antioxidant capacity of gluten-free cookies, blueberry pomace, by-product of juice production, was processed into a new food ingredient by drying and grinding and used for a gluten-free cookie formulation. Since the quality of a baked product is highly influenced by the baking conditions, the objective of this work was to optimize the baking time and thickness of dough pieces, by applying Response Surface Methodology (RSM) in order to obtain the best technological quality of the cookies. The experiments were carried out according to a Central Composite Design (CCD) by selecting the dough thickness and baking time as independent variables, while hardness, color parameters (L*, a* and b* values), water activity, diameter and short/long ratio were response variables. According to the results of RSM analysis, the baking time of 13.74min and dough thickness of 4.08mm was found to be the optimal for the baking temperature of 170°C. As similar optimal parameters were obtained by previously conducted experiment based on sensory analysis, response surface methodology (RSM) can be considered as a suitable approach to optimize the baking process.
Abstract: This paper studies the optimum design for reducing
optical loss of an 8x8 mechanical type optical switch due to the
temperature change. The 8x8 optical switch is composed of a base, 8
input fibers, 8 output fibers, 3 fixed mirrors and 17 movable mirrors.
First, an innovative switch configuration is proposed with
thermal-compensated design. Most mechanical type optical switches
have a disadvantage that their precision and accuracy are influenced
by the ambient temperature. Therefore, the thermal-compensated
design is to deal with this situation by using materials with different
thermal expansion coefficients (α). Second, a parametric modeling
program is developed to generate solid models for finite element
analysis, and the thermal and structural behaviors of the switch are
analyzed. Finally, an integrated optimum design program, combining
Autodesk Inventor Professional software, finite element analysis
software, and genetic algorithms, is developed for improving the
thermal behaviors that the optical loss of the switch is reduced. By
changing design parameters of the switch in the integrated design
program, the final optimum design that satisfies the design constraints
and specifications can be found.
Abstract: This study was conducted to determine effect of water stress on chlorophyll content and chlorophyll fluorescence parameter in young `Dezful- olive trees. Three irrigation regimes (40% ETcrop, 65% ETcrop and 100% ETcrop) were used. After irrigation treatments were applied, some of biochemical parameters including chlorophyll a, b, total chlorophyll, chlorophyll fluorescence and also chlorophyll content index (C.C.I) were measured. Results of Analysis of variance showed that irrigation treatments had significant effect on chlorophylla, total chlorophyll (chl a+b), C.C.I and Fv/Fm ratio. The amount of decreased chlorophyll a and total chlorophyll in plants were received 40% ETcrop were 51.55% and 46.86%, respectively, compared with 100% ETcrop.
Abstract: ECG contains very important clinical information about the cardiac activities of the heart. Often the ECG signal needs to be captured for a long period of time in order to identify abnormalities in certain situations. Such signal apart of a large volume often is characterised by low quality due to the noise and other influences. In order to extract features in the ECG signal with time-varying characteristics at first need to be preprocessed with the best parameters. Also, it is useful to identify specific parts of the long lasting signal which have certain abnormalities and to direct the practitioner to those parts of the signal. In this work we present a method based on wavelet transform, standard deviation and variable threshold which achieves 100% accuracy in identifying the ECG signal peaks and heartbeat as well as identifying the standard deviation, providing a quick reference to abnormalities.
Abstract: A new fast correlation algorithm for calibrating the
wavelength of Optical Spectrum Analyzers (OSAs) was introduced
in [1]. The minima of acetylene gas spectra were measured and
correlated with saved theoretical data [2]. So it is possible to find the
correct wavelength calibration data using a noisy reference spectrum.
First tests showed good algorithmic performance for gas line spectra
with high noise. In this article extensive performance tests were made
to validate the noise resistance of this algorithm. The filter and
correlation parameters of the algorithm were optimized for improved
noise performance. With these parameters the performance of this
wavelength calibration was simulated to predict the resulting
wavelength error in real OSA systems. Long term simulations were
made to evaluate the performance of the algorithm over the lifetime
of a real OSA.
Abstract: The equations governing the flow of an electrically conducting, incompressible viscous fluid over an infinite flat plate in the presence of a magnetic field are investigated using the homotopy perturbation method (HPM) with Padé approximants (PA) and 4th order Runge–Kutta method (4RKM). Approximate analytical and numerical solutions for the velocity field and heat transfer are obtained and compared with each other, showing excellent agreement. The effects of the magnetic parameter and Prandtl number on velocity field, shear stress, temperature and heat transfer are discussed as well.
Abstract: Response Surface Methodology (RSM) is a powerful
and efficient mathematical approach widely applied in the
optimization of cultivation process. Cellulase enzyme production by
Trichoderma reesei RutC30 using agricultural waste rice straw and
banana fiber as carbon source were investigated. In this work,
sequential optimization strategy based statistical design was
employed to enhance the production of cellulase enzyme through
submerged cultivation. A fractional factorial design (26-2) was applied
to elucidate the process parameters that significantly affect cellulase
production. Temperature, Substrate concentration, Inducer
concentration, pH, inoculum age and agitation speed were identified
as important process parameters effecting cellulase enzyme synthesis.
The concentration of lignocelluloses and lactose (inducer) in the
cultivation medium were found to be most significant factors. The
steepest ascent method was used to locate the optimal domain and a
Central Composite Design (CCD) was used to estimate the quadratic
response surface from which the factor levels for maximum
production of cellulase were determined.
Abstract: We present a visualization technique for radial drawing of trees consisting of two slightly different algorithms. Both of them make use of node-link diagrams for visual encoding. This visualization creates clear drawings without edge crossing. One of the algorithms is suitable for real-time visualization of large trees, as it requires minimal recalculation of the layout if leaves are inserted or removed from the tree; while the other algorithm makes better utilization of the drawing space. The algorithms are very similar and follow almost the same procedure but with different parameters. Both algorithms assign angular coordinates for all nodes which are then converted into 2D Cartesian coordinates for visualization. We present both algorithms and discuss how they compare to each other.
Abstract: The object of this work is the probabilistic performance evaluation of safety instrumented systems (SIS), i.e. the average probability of dangerous failure on demand (PFDavg) and the average frequency of failure (PFH), taking into account the uncertainties related to the different parameters that come into play: failure rate (λ), common cause failure proportion (β), diagnostic coverage (DC)... This leads to an accurate and safe assessment of the safety integrity level (SIL) inherent to the safety function performed by such systems. This aim is in keeping with the requirement of the IEC 61508 standard with respect to handling uncertainty. To do this, we propose an approach that combines (1) Monte Carlo simulation and (2) fuzzy sets. Indeed, the first method is appropriate where representative statistical data are available (using pdf of the relating parameters), while the latter applies in the case characterized by vague and subjective information (using membership function). The proposed approach is fully supported with a suitable computer code.
Abstract: This work deals with aspects of support vector learning for large-scale data mining tasks. Based on a decomposition algorithm that can be run in serial and parallel mode we introduce a data transformation that allows for the usage of an expensive generalized kernel without additional costs. In order to speed up the decomposition algorithm we analyze the problem of working set selection for large data sets and analyze the influence of the working set sizes onto the scalability of the parallel decomposition scheme. Our modifications and settings lead to improvement of support vector learning performance and thus allow using extensive parameter search methods to optimize classification accuracy.
Abstract: In this paper a sliding-mode torque and flux control is
designed for encoderless synchronous reluctance motor drive. The
sliding-mode plus PI controllers are designed in the stator-flux field
oriented reference frame which is able to track the mentioned
reference signals with a minimum pulsations in the state condition. In
addition, with these controllers a fast dynamic response is also
achieved for the drive system. The proposed control scheme is robust
subject to parameters variation except to stator resistance. To solve
this problem a simple estimator is used for on-line detecting of this
parameter. Moreover, the rotor position and speed are estimated by
on-line obtaining of the stator-flux-space vector. The effectiveness
and capability of the proposed control approach is verified by both
the simulation and experimental results.
Abstract: The impeller and the casing are the key components of
a centrifugal pump. Although there have been many studies on the
impeller and the volute casing of centrifugal pump, further study of the
volute casing to improve the performance of centrifugal pumps is
needed. In this paper, the effect of cross-sectional area on the
performance of volute casing was investigated using a commercial
CFD code. The performance characteristics, not only at the off-design
point but also for a full type model are required these days. So we
conducted numerical analysis for all operating points by using
complete geometry through transient analysis. Transient analysis on
the complete geometry of a real product has the advantage of
simulating realistic flow. The results of this study show the variation of
a performance curve by modifying the above-mentioned design
parameter.
