Abstract: A predictive clustering hybrid regression (pCHR)
approach was developed and evaluated using dataset from H2-
producing sucrose-based bioreactor operated for 15 months. The aim
was to model and predict the H2-production rate using information
available about envirome and metabolome of the bioprocess. Selforganizing
maps (SOM) and Sammon map were used to visualize the
dataset and to identify main metabolic patterns and clusters in
bioprocess data. Three metabolic clusters: acetate coupled with other
metabolites, butyrate only, and transition phases were detected. The
developed pCHR model combines principles of k-means clustering,
kNN classification and regression techniques. The model performed
well in modeling and predicting the H2-production rate with mean
square error values of 0.0014 and 0.0032, respectively.
Abstract: Study of fire and explosion is very important mainly
in oil and gas industries due to several accidents which have been
reported in the past and present. In this work, we have investigated
the flammability of bio oil vapour mixtures. This mixture may
contribute to fire during the storage and transportation process. Bio
oil sample derived from Palm Kernell shell was analysed using Gas
Chromatography Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS) to examine the
composition of the sample. Mole fractions of 12 selected
components in the liquid phase were obtained from the GC-FID data
and used to calculate mole fractions of components in the gas phase
via modified Raoult-s law. Lower Flammability Limits (LFLs) and
Upper Flammability Limits (UFLs) for individual components were
obtained from published literature. However, stoichiometric
concentration method was used to calculate the flammability limits
of some components which their flammability limit values are not
available in the literature. The LFL and UFL values for the mixture
were calculated using the Le Chatelier equation. The LFLmix and
UFLmix values were used to construct a flammability diagram and
subsequently used to determine the flammability of the mixture. The
findings of this study can be used to propose suitable inherently
safer method to prevent the flammable mixture from occurring and
to minimizing the loss of properties, business, and life due to fire
accidents in bio oil productions.
Abstract: Semisolid metal processing uses solid–liquid slurries
containing fine and globular solid particles uniformly distributed in a
liquid matrix, which can be handled as a solid and flow like a liquid.
In the recent years, many methods have been introduced for the
production of semisolid slurries since it is scientifically sound and
industrially viable with such preferred microstructures called
thixotropic microstructures as feedstock materials. One such process
that needs very low equipment investment and running costs is the
cooling slope. In this research by using a mechanical stirrer slurry
maker constructed by the authors, the effects of mechanical stirring
parameters such as: stirring time, stirring temperature and stirring
Speed on micro-structure and mechanical properties of A360
aluminum alloy in semi-solid forming, are investigated. It is
determined that mold temperature and holding time of part in
temperature of 580ºC have a great effect on micro-structure and
mechanical properties(stirring temperature of 585ºC, stirring time of
20 minutes and stirring speed of 425 RPM). By optimizing the
forming parameters, dendrite microstructure changes to globular and
mechanical properties improves. This is because of breaking and
globularzing dendrites of primary α-AL.
Abstract: This paper deals with efficient computation of
probability coefficients which offers computational simplicity as
compared to spectral coefficients. It eliminates the need of inner
product evaluations in determination of signature of a combinational
circuit realizing given Boolean function. The method for computation
of probability coefficients using transform matrix, fast transform
method and using BDD is given. Theoretical relations for achievable
computational advantage in terms of required additions in computing
all 2n probability coefficients of n variable function have been
developed. It is shown that for n ≥ 5, only 50% additions are needed
to compute all probability coefficients as compared to spectral
coefficients. The fault detection techniques based on spectral
signature can be used with probability signature also to offer
computational advantage.
Abstract: We introduce, a new interactive 3D simulation system of ocular motion and expressions suitable for: (1) character animation applications to game design, film production, HCI (Human Computer Interface), conversational animated agents, and virtual reality; (2) medical applications (ophthalmic neurological and muscular pathologies: research and education); and (3) real time simulation of unconscious cognitive and emotional responses (for use, e.g., in psychological research). The system is comprised of: (1) a physiologically accurate parameterized 3D model of the eyes, eyelids, and eyebrow regions; and (2) a prototype device for realtime control of eye motions and expressions, including unconsciously produced expressions, for application as in (1), (2), and (3) above. The 3D eye simulation system, created using state-of-the-art computer animation technology and 'optimized' for use with an interactive and web deliverable platform, is, to our knowledge, the most advanced/realistic available so far for applications to character animation and medical pedagogy.
Abstract: Monitoring the tool flank wear without affecting the
throughput is considered as the prudent method in production
technology. The examination has to be done without affecting the
machining process. In this paper we proposed a novel work that is
used to determine tool flank wear by observing the sound signals
emitted during the turning process. The work-piece material we used
here is steel and aluminum and the cutting insert was carbide
material. Two different cutting speeds were used in this work. The
feed rate and the cutting depth were constant whereas the flank wear
was a variable. The emitted sound signal of a fresh tool (0 mm flank
wear) a slightly worn tool (0.2 -0.25 mm flank wear) and a severely
worn tool (0.4mm and above flank wear) during turning process were
recorded separately using a high sensitive microphone. Analysis
using Singular Value Decomposition was done on these sound
signals to extract the feature sound components. Observation of the
results showed that an increase in tool flank wear correlates with an
increase in the values of SVD features produced out of the sound
signals for both the materials. Hence it can be concluded that wear
monitoring of tool flank during turning process using SVD features
with the Fuzzy C means classification on the emitted sound signal is
a potential and relatively simple method.
Abstract: This paper aims at to develop a robust optimization methodology for the mechatronic modules of machine tools by considering all important characteristics from all structural and control domains in one single process. The relationship between these two domains is strongly coupled. In order to reduce the disturbance caused by parameters in either one, the mechanical and controller design domains need to be integrated. Therefore, the concurrent integrated design method Design For Control (DFC), will be employed in this paper. In this connect, it is not only applied to achieve minimal power consumption but also enhance structural performance and system response at same time. To investigate the method for integrated optimization, a mechatronic feed drive system of the machine tools is used as a design platform. Pro/Engineer and AnSys are first used to build the 3D model to analyze and design structure parameters such as elastic deformation, nature frequency and component size, based on their effects and sensitivities to the structure. In addition, the robust controller, based on Quantitative Feedback Theory (QFT), will be applied to determine proper control parameters for the controller. Therefore, overall physical properties of the machine tool will be obtained in the initial stage. Finally, the technology of design for control will be carried out to modify the structural and control parameters to achieve overall system performance. Hence, the corresponding productivity is expected to be greatly improved.
Abstract: In this article, the design of a Supply Chain Network
(SCN) consisting of several suppliers, production plants, distribution
centers and retailers, is considered. Demands of retailers are
considered stochastic parameters, so we generate amounts of data via
simulation to extract a few demand scenarios. Then a mixed integer
two-stage programming model is developed to optimize
simultaneously two objectives: (1) minimization the fixed and
variable cost, (2) maximization the service level. A weighting method
is utilized to solve this two objective problem and a numerical
example is made to show the performance of the model.
Abstract: Assembly line balancing is a very important issue in
mass production systems due to production cost. Although many
studies have been done on this topic, but because assembly line
balancing problems are so complex they are categorized as NP-hard
problems and researchers strongly recommend using heuristic
methods. This paper presents a new heuristic approach called the
critical task method (CTM) for solving U-shape assembly line
balancing problems. The performance of the proposed heuristic
method is tested by solving a number of test problems and comparing
them with 12 other heuristics available in the literature to confirm the
superior performance of the proposed heuristic. Furthermore, to
prove the efficiency of the proposed CTM, the objectives are
increased to minimize the number of workstation (or equivalently
maximize line efficiency), and minimizing the smoothness index.
Finally, it is proven that the proposed heuristic is more efficient than
the others to solve the U-shape assembly line balancing problem.
Abstract: Nowadays companies strive to survive in a
competitive global environment. To speed up product
development/modifications, it is suggested to adopt a collaborative
product development approach. However, despite the advantages of
new IT improvements still many CAx systems work separately and
locally. Collaborative design and manufacture requires a product
information model that supports related CAx product data models. To
solve this problem many solutions are proposed, which the most
successful one is adopting the STEP standard as a product data model
to develop a collaborative CAx platform. However, the improvement
of the STEP-s Application Protocols (APs) over the time, huge
number of STEP AP-s and cc-s, the high costs of implementation,
costly process for conversion of older CAx software files to the STEP
neutral file format; and lack of STEP knowledge, that usually slows
down the implementation of the STEP standard in collaborative data
exchange, management and integration should be considered. In this
paper the requirements for a successful collaborative CAx system is
discussed. The STEP standard capability for product data integration
and its shortcomings as well as the dominant platforms for supporting
CAx collaboration management and product data integration are
reviewed. Finally a platform named LAYMOD to fulfil the
requirements of CAx collaborative environment and integrating the
product data is proposed. The platform is a layered platform to enable
global collaboration among different CAx software
packages/developers. It also adopts the STEP modular architecture
and the XML data structures to enable collaboration between CAx
software packages as well as overcoming the STEP standard
limitations. The architecture and procedures of LAYMOD platform
to manage collaboration and avoid contradicts in product data
integration are introduced.

Abstract: In the gas refineries of Iran-s South Pars Gas
Complex, Sulfrex demercaptanization process is used to remove
volatile and corrosive mercaptans from liquefied petroleum gases by
caustic solution. This process consists of two steps. Removing low
molecular weight mercaptans and regeneration exhaust caustic. Some
parameters such as LPG feed temperature, caustic concentration and
feed-s mercaptan in extraction step and sodium mercaptide content in
caustic, catalyst concentration, caustic temperature, air injection rate
in regeneration step are effective factors. In this paper was focused on
temperature factor that play key role in mercaptans extraction and
caustic regeneration. The experimental results demonstrated by
optimization of temperature, sodium mercaptide content in caustic
because of good oxidation minimized and sulfur impurities in
product reduced.

Abstract: In the Northern hemisphere, sheep reproduction is
seasonal (September-November). Among several natural factors
influencing the reproduction status of rams, we studied the daylight
length and temperature. Rams from different breeds were studied:
Merinos de Palas (half-precocious), Karakul de Botosani (halfbelated)
and Turcana (belated breed, low reproductive plasticity). In
Merinos de Palas, ejaculate volume during sexual repose is 51.3%
from normal quantity. When autumn climate was experimentally
induced, ejaculate volume reached 98.45% (Merinos), 94.97%
(Karakul) and 97.59% (Turcana). Semen density increased from
1.031-1.033 till 1.035 after exposition to artificial light and
temperature conditions. Spermatozoids mobility and sperm pH
improved, passing over 82% and 6.75, values identical to those in the
natural reproduction season. Behaviour analysis after
photoperiodicity indicated that over 83.3% Merinos and Karakul
males and all Turcana rams exteriorised normal and intense sexual
reflexes. Certain effort and reduced expenses brought rams in good
condition, producing higher quantity and quality sperm.
Abstract: Investigations of the unimolecular decomposition of
vinyl ethyl ether (VEE), vinyl propyl ether (VPE) and vinyl butyl
ether (VBE) have shown that activation of the molecule of a ether
results in formation of a cyclic construction - the transition state (TS),
which may lead to the displacement of the thermodynamic
equilibrium towards the reaction products. The TS is obtained by
applying energy minimization relative to the ground state of an ether
under the program MM2 when taking into account the hydrogen bond
formation between a hydrogen atom of alkyl residue and the extreme
atom of carbon of the vinyl group. The dissociation of TS up to the
products is studied by energy minimization procedure using the
mathematical program Gaussian. The obtained calculation data for
VEE testify that the decomposition of this ether may be conditioned
by hydrogen bond formation for two possible versions: when α- or β-
hydrogen atoms of the ethyl group are bound to carbon atom of the
vinyl group. Applying the same calculation methods to other ethers
(VPE and VBE) it is shown that only in the case of hydrogen bonding
between α-hydrogen atom of the alkyl residue and the extreme atom
of carbon of the vinyl group (αH---C) results in decay of theses
ethers.
Abstract: The selection for plantation of a particular type of
mustard plant depending on its productivity (pod yield) at the stage
of maturity. The growth of mustard plant dependent on some
parameters of that plant, these are shoot length, number of leaves,
number of roots and roots length etc. As the plant is growing, some
leaves may be fall down and some new leaves may come, so it can
not gives the idea to develop the relationship with the seeds weight at
mature stage of that plant. It is not possible to find the number of
roots and root length of mustard plant at growing stage that will be
harmful of this plant as roots goes deeper to deeper inside the land.
Only the value of shoot length which increases in course of time can
be measured at different time instances. Weather parameters are
maximum and minimum humidity, rain fall, maximum and minimum
temperature may effect the growth of the plant. The parameters of
pollution, water, soil, distance and crop management may be
dominant factors of growth of plant and its productivity. Considering
all parameters, the growth of the plant is very uncertain, fuzzy
environment can be considered for the prediction of shoot length at
maturity of the plant. Fuzzification plays a greater role for
fuzzification of data, which is based on certain membership
functions. Here an effort has been made to fuzzify the original data
based on gaussian function, triangular function, s-function,
Trapezoidal and L –function. After that all fuzzified data are
defuzzified to get normal form. Finally the error analysis
(calculation of forecasting error and average error) indicates the
membership function appropriate for fuzzification of data and use to
predict the shoot length at maturity. The result is also verified using
residual (Absolute Residual, Maximum of Absolute Residual, Mean
Absolute Residual, Mean of Mean Absolute Residual, Median of
Absolute Residual and Standard Deviation) analysis.
Abstract: The research was set up on chernozem soil at the Látókép AGTC MÉK research area of the University of Debrecen in Hungary. We examined the yield, the yield production per 1kg NPK fertilizer and the water and nutrient utilization of hybrid PR37N01 and PR37M81 in 2013. We found that PR37N01 produced the most yield at the level of N120+P (17,476kg ha-1) while PR37M81 reached the highest yield at level N150+PK (16,754kg ha-1). Studies related to yield production per 1kg NPK indicated that the best results were achieved at level N30+PK compared to the control treatment. Yield production per 1kg NPK was17.6kg kg-1 by P37N01 and 44.2kg kg-1 by PR37M81. By comparing the water utilization of hybrids we found that the worst water utilization results were reached in the control treatment (PR37N01: 26.2kg mm-1, PR37M81: 19.5kg mm-1). The best water utilization values were produced at level N120+PK in the case of hybrid PR37N01 (32.1kg mm-1) and at N150+PK in the case of hybrid PR37M81 (30.8kg mm-1). We established the values of the nutrient reaction and the fertilizer optimum of hybrids. We discovered a strong relationship between the amount of fertilizer applied and the yield produced (r2= 0.8228–0.9515). The best nutrient response was induced by hybrid PR37N01, while the weakest results were reached by hybrid PR37M81.
Abstract: Noble metal participation in nanostructured
semiconductor catalysts has drawn much interest because of their
improved properties. Recently, it has been discussed by many
researchers that Ag participation in TiO2, CuO, ZnO semiconductors
showed improved photocatalytic and optical properties. In this
research, Ag/ZnO nanocomposite particles were prepared by
Ultrasonic Spray Pyrolysis(USP) Method. 0.1M silver and zinc
nitrate aqueous solutions were used as precursor solutions. The
Ag:Zn atomic ratio of the solution was selected 1:1. Experiments
were taken place under constant air flow of 400 mL/min at 800°C
furnace temperature. Particles were characterized by X-Ray
Diffraction (XRD), Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) and
Energy Dispersive Spectroscopy (EDS). The crystallite sizes of Ag
and ZnO in composite particles are 24.6 nm, 19.7 nm respectively.
Although, spherical nanocomposite particles are in a range of 300-
800 nm, these particles are formed by the aggregation of primary
particles which are in a range of 20-60 nm.
Abstract: Several methods are available for weight and shape
optimization of structures, among which Evolutionary Structural
Optimization (ESO) is one of the most widely used methods. In ESO,
however, the optimization criterion is completely case-dependent.
Moreover, only the improving solutions are accepted during the
search. In this paper a Simulated Annealing (SA) algorithm is used
for structural optimization problem. This algorithm differs from other
random search methods by accepting non-improving solutions. The
implementation of SA algorithm is done through reducing the
number of finite element analyses (function evaluations).
Computational results show that SA can efficiently and effectively
solve such optimization problems within short search time.
Abstract: Bangla Vowel characterization determines the spectral properties of Bangla vowels for efficient synthesis as well as recognition of Bangla vowels. In this paper, Bangla vowels in isolated word have been analyzed based on speech production model within the framework of Analysis-by-Synthesis. This has led to the extraction of spectral parameters for the production model in order to produce different Bangla vowel sounds. The real and synthetic spectra are compared and a weighted square error has been computed along with the error in the formant bandwidths for efficient representation of Bangla vowels. The extracted features produced good representation of targeted Bangla vowel. Such a representation also plays essential role in low bit rate speech coding and vocoders.
