Abstract: Introduction: This work is aimed to represent the use of the OPTI-JET CS MD1 MR prototype for application of neutral electrolyzed oxidizing water (NEOW) in magnetic resonance rooms. Material and Methods: We produced and used OPTI-JET CS MD1 MR aerosolisator whereby was performed aerosolization. The presence of microorganisms before and after the aerosolisation was recorded with the help of cyclone air sampling. Colony formed units (CFU) was counted. Results: The number of microorganisms in magnetic resonance 3T room was low as expected. Nevertheless, a possible CFU reduction of 87% was recorded. Conclusions: The research has shown that the use of EOW for the air and hard surface disinfection can considerably reduce the presence of microorganisms and consequently the possibility of hospital infections. It has also demonstrated that the use of OPTI-JET CS MD1 MR is very good. With this research, we started new guidelines for aerosolization in magnetic resonance rooms. Future work: We predict that presented technique works very good but we must focus also on time capacity sensors, and new appropriate toxicological studies.
Abstract: Healthcare waste management continues to present an
array of challenges for developing countries, and Liberia is of no
exception. There is insufficient information available regarding the
generation, handling, and disposal of health care waste. This face
serves as an impediment to healthcare management schemes. The
specific objective of this study is to present an evaluation of the
current health care management practices in Liberia. It also presented
procedures, techniques used, methods of handling, transportation, and
disposal methods of wastes as well as the quantity and composition
of health care waste. This study was conducted as an investigative
case study, covering three different health care facilities; a hospital, a
health center, and a clinic in Monrovia, Montserrado County. The
average waste generation was found to be 0-7kg per day at the clinic
and health center and 8-15kg per/day at the hospital. The composition
of the waste includes hazardous and non-hazardous waste i.e. plastic,
papers, sharps, and pathological elements etc. Nevertheless, the
investigation showed that the healthcare waste generated by the
surveyed healthcare facilities were not properly handled because of
insufficient guidelines for separate collection, and classification, and
adequate methods for storage and proper disposal of generated
wastes. This therefore indicates that there is a need for improvement
within the healthcare waste management system to improve the
existing situation.
Abstract: Digital technologies offer many opportunities in the
design and implementation of brand communication and advertising.
Augmented reality (AR) is an innovative technology in marketing
communication that focuses on the fact that virtual interaction with a
product ad offers additional value to consumers. AR enables
consumers to obtain (almost) real product experiences by the way of
virtual information even before the purchase of a certain product.
Aim of AR applications in relation with advertising is in-depth
examination of product characteristics to enhance product knowledge
as well as brand knowledge. Interactive design of advertising
provides observers with an intense examination of a specific
advertising message and therefore leads to better brand knowledge.
The elaboration likelihood model and the central route to persuasion
strongly support this argumentation. Nevertheless, AR in brand
communication is still in an initial stage and therefore scientific
findings about the impact of AR on information processing and brand
attitude are rare. The aim of this paper is to empirically investigate
the potential of AR applications in combination with traditional print
advertising. To that effect an experimental design with different
levels of interactivity is built to measure the impact of interactivity of
an ad on different variables o advertising effectiveness.
Abstract: Historic paths in today's cities are facing the pressure
of the urban development due to the rapid urban growth. Every new
development is tearing the old urban fabric and the socio-economic
character of the historic paths. Furthermore, in some cases historic
paths suffer from negligence and decay. Kom El Dekka historic path
was one of those deteriorated paths in the city of Alexandria, Egypt,
in spite of its high heritage and socio-economic value. Therefore,
there was a need to develop urban regeneration strategies as a part of
a wider sustainable development vision, to handle the situation and
revitalize the path as a livable space in the heart of the city. This
study aims to develop a comprehensive assessment methodology to
evaluate the different values of the path and to create community-oriented
and economic-based analysis methodology for its socio-economic
values. These analysis and assessments provide strategies
for any regeneration action plan for Kom El Dekka historic path.
Abstract: The combination of multi–walled carbon nanotubes
(MWCNTs) with polymers offers an attractive route to reinforce the
macromolecular compounds as well as the introduction of new
properties based on morphological modifications or electronic
interactions between the two constituents. As they are only a few
nanometers in dimension, it offers ultra-large interfacial area per
volume between the nano-element and polymer matrix. Nevertheless,
the use of MWCNTs as a rough material in different applications has
been largely limited by their poor processability, insolubility, and
infusibility. Studies concerning the nanofiller reinforced polymer
composites are justified in an attempt to overcome these limitations.
This work presents one preliminary study of MWCNTs dispersion
into the PVDF homopolymer. For preparation, the composite
components were diluted in n,n-dimethylacetamide (DMAc) with
mechanical agitation assistance. After complete dilution, followed by
slow evaporation of the solvent at 60°C, the samples were dried.
Films of about 80 μm were obtained. FTIR and UV-Vis
spectroscopic techniques were used to characterize the
nanocomposites. The appearance of absorption bands in the FTIR
spectra of nanofilled samples, when compared to the spectrum of
pristine PVDF samples, are discussed and compared with the UV-Vis
measurements.
Abstract: The boundary layer separation and new active flow control of a NACA 0025 airfoil were studied experimentally. This new flow control is sometimes known as a co-flow jet (cfj) airfoil. This paper presents the fluctuating velocity in a wall jet over the co-flow jet airfoil subjected to an adverse pressure gradient and a curved surface. In these results, the fluctuating velocity at the inner part increasing by increased the angle of attack up to 12o and this has due to the jet energized, while the angle of attack 20o has different. The airfoil cord based Reynolds number has 105.
Abstract: Growth and remodeling of biological structures have
gained lots of attention over the past decades. Determining the
response of living tissues to mechanical loads is necessary for a wide
range of developing fields such as prosthetics design or computerassisted
surgical interventions. It is a well-known fact that biological
structures are never stress-free, even when externally unloaded. The
exact origin of these residual stresses is not clear, but theoretically,
growth is one of the main sources. Extracting body organ’s shapes
from medical imaging does not produce any information regarding
the existing residual stresses in that organ. The simplest cause of such
stresses is gravity since an organ grows under its influence from
birth. Ignoring such residual stresses might cause erroneous results in
numerical simulations. Accounting for residual stresses due to tissue
growth can improve the accuracy of mechanical analysis results. This
paper presents an original computational framework based on gradual
growth to determine the residual stresses due to growth. To illustrate
the method, we apply it to a finite element model of a healthy human
face reconstructed from medical images. The distribution of residual
stress in facial tissues is computed, which can overcome the effect of
gravity and maintain tissues firmness. Our assumption is that tissue
wrinkles caused by aging could be a consequence of decreasing
residual stress and thus not counteracting gravity. Taking into
account these stresses seems therefore extremely important in
maxillofacial surgery. It would indeed help surgeons to estimate
tissues changes after surgery.
Abstract: Mumbai, being traditionally the epicenter of India's
trade and commerce, the existing major ports such as Mumbai and
Jawaharlal Nehru Ports (JN) situated in Thane estuary are also
developing its waterfront facilities. Various developments over the
passage of decades in this region have changed the tidal flux
entering/leaving the estuary. The intake at Pir-Pau is facing the
problem of shortage of water in view of advancement of shoreline,
while jetty near Ulwe faces the problem of ship scheduling due to
existence of shallower depths between JN Port and Ulwe Bunder. In
order to solve these problems, it is inevitable to have information
about tide levels over a long duration by field measurements.
However, field measurement is a tedious and costly affair;
application of artificial intelligence was used to predict water levels
by training the network for the measured tide data for one lunar tidal
cycle. The application of two layered feed forward Artificial Neural
Network (ANN) with back-propagation training algorithms such as
Gradient Descent (GD) and Levenberg-Marquardt (LM) was used to
predict the yearly tide levels at waterfront structures namely at Ulwe
Bunder and Pir-Pau. The tide data collected at Apollo Bunder, Ulwe,
and Vashi for a period of lunar tidal cycle (2013) was used to train,
validate and test the neural networks. These trained networks having
high co-relation coefficients (R= 0.998) were used to predict the tide
at Ulwe, and Vashi for its verification with the measured tide for the
year 2000 & 2013. The results indicate that the predicted tide levels
by ANN give reasonably accurate estimation of tide. Hence, the
trained network is used to predict the yearly tide data (2015) for
Ulwe. Subsequently, the yearly tide data (2015) at Pir-Pau was
predicted by using the neural network which was trained with the
help of measured tide data (2000) of Apollo and Pir-Pau. The analysis of measured data and study reveals that: The
measured tidal data at Pir-Pau, Vashi and Ulwe indicate that there is
maximum amplification of tide by about 10-20 cm with a phase lag
of 10-20 minutes with reference to the tide at Apollo Bunder
(Mumbai). LM training algorithm is faster than GD and with increase
in number of neurons in hidden layer and the performance of the
network increases. The predicted tide levels by ANN at Pir-Pau and
Ulwe provides valuable information about the occurrence of high and
low water levels to plan the operation of pumping at Pir-Pau and
improve ship schedule at Ulwe.
Abstract: Discussing the nexus between global health policy and local practices, this article addresses the recent Ebola outbreak as a role model for narrative co-constructions of epidemic risk. We will demonstrate in how far a theory-driven and methodologically rooted analysis of narrativity can help to improve mechanisms of prevention and intervention whenever epidemic risk needs to be addressed locally in order to contribute to global health. Analyzing the narrative transformation of Ebola, we will also address issues of transcultural problem-solving and of normative questions at stake. In this regard, we seek to contribute to a better understanding of a key question of global health and justice as well as to the underlying ethical questions. By highlighting and analyzing the functions of narratives, this paper provides a translational approach to refine our practices by which we address epidemic risk, be it on the national, the transnational or the global scale.
Abstract: Torrefaction of biomass pellets is considered as a
useful pretreatment technology in order to convert them into a high
quality solid biofuel that is more suitable for pyrolysis, gasification,
combustion, and co-firing applications. In the course of torrefaction,
the temperature varies across the pellet, and therefore chemical
reactions proceed unevenly within the pellet. However, the
uniformity of the thermal distribution along the pellet is generally
assumed. The torrefaction process of a single cylindrical pellet is
modeled here, accounting for heat transfer coupled with chemical
kinetics. The drying sub-model was also introduced. The nonstationary
process of wood pellet decomposition is described by the
system of non-linear partial differential equations over the
temperature and mass. The model captures well the main features of
the experimental data.
Abstract: Teaching of mathematics to engineering students is an
open ended problem in education. The main goal of mathematics
learning for engineering students is the ability of applying a wide
range of mathematical techniques and skills in their engineering
classes and later in their professional work. Most of the
undergraduate engineering students and faculties feels that no efforts
and attempts are made to demonstrate the applicability of various
topics of mathematics that are taught thus making mathematics
unavoidable for some engineering faculty and their students. The lack
of understanding of concepts in engineering mathematics may hinder
the understanding of other concepts or even subjects. However, for
most undergraduate engineering students, mathematics is one of the
most difficult courses in their field of study. Most of the engineering students never understood mathematics or
they never liked it because it was too abstract for them and they could
never relate to it. A right balance of application and concept based
teaching can only fulfill the objectives of teaching mathematics to
engineering students. It will surely improve and enhance their
problem solving and creative thinking skills. In this paper, some practical (informal) ways of making
mathematics-teaching application based for the engineering students
is discussed. An attempt is made to understand the present state of
teaching mathematics in engineering colleges. The weaknesses and
strengths of the current teaching approach are elaborated. Some of
the causes of unpopularity of mathematics subject are analyzed and a
few pragmatic suggestions have been made. Faculty in mathematics
courses should spend more time discussing the applications as well as
the conceptual underpinnings rather than focus solely on strategies
and techniques to solve problems. They should also introduce more
‘word’ problems as these problems are commonly encountered in
engineering courses. Overspecialization in engineering education
should not occur at the expense of (or by diluting) mathematics and
basic sciences. The role of engineering education is to provide the
fundamental (basic) knowledge and to teach the students simple
methodology of self-learning and self-development. All these issues
would be better addressed if mathematics and engineering faculty
join hands together to plan and design the learning experiences for
the students who take their classes. When faculties stop competing
against each other and start competing against the situation, they will
perform better. Without creating any administrative hassles these
suggestions can be used by any young inexperienced faculty of
mathematics to inspire engineering students to learn engineering
mathematics effectively.
Abstract: Scripts are one of the basic text resources to understand
broadcasting contents. Topic modeling is the method to get the
summary of the broadcasting contents from its scripts. Generally,
scripts represent contents descriptively with directions and speeches,
and provide scene segments that can be seen as semantic units.
Therefore, a script can be topic modeled by treating a scene segment
as a document. Because scene segments consist of speeches mainly,
however, relatively small co-occurrences among words in the scene
segments are observed. This causes inevitably the bad quality of
topics by statistical learning method. To tackle this problem, we
propose a method to improve topic quality with additional word
co-occurrence information obtained using scene similarities. The
main idea of improving topic quality is that the information that
two or more texts are topically related can be useful to learn high
quality of topics. In addition, more accurate topical representations
lead to get information more accurate whether two texts are related
or not. In this paper, we regard two scene segments are related
if their topical similarity is high enough. We also consider that
words are co-occurred if they are in topically related scene segments
together. By iteratively inferring topics and determining semantically
neighborhood scene segments, we draw a topic space represents
broadcasting contents well. In the experiments, we showed the
proposed method generates a higher quality of topics from Korean
drama scripts than the baselines.
Abstract: The aim of this study is to examine, through
experimentation in the laboratory, the supercritical flow in the
presence of an obstacle in a rectangular channel. The supercritical
regime in the whole hydraulic channel is achieved by adding a
convergent. We will observe the influence of the obstacle shape and
dimension on the characteristics of the supercritical flow, mainly the
free-surface elevation and the velocity profile. The velocity
measurements have been conducted with the one dimension laser
anemometry technique.
Abstract: The social logic of 'Sequina' slum area in Alexandria details the integral measure of space syntax at the room-level of twenty-building samples. The essence of spatial structure integrates the central 'visitor' domain with the 'living' frontage of the 'children' zone against the segregated privacy of the opposite 'parent' depth. Meanwhile, the multifunctioning of shallow rooms optimizes the integral 'visitor' structure through graph and visibility dimensions in contrast to the 'inhabitant' structure of graph-tails out of sight. Common theme of the layout integrity increases in compensation to the decrease of room visibility. Despite the 'pheno-type' of collective integration, the individual layouts observe 'geno-type' structure of spatial diversity per room adjoins. In this regard, the layout integrity alternates the cross-correlation of the 'kitchen & living' rooms with the 'inhabitant & visitor' domains of 'motherhood' dynamic structure. Moreover, the added 'grandparent' restructures the integral measure to become the deepest space, but opens to the 'living' of 'household' integrity. Some isomorphic layouts change the integral structure just through the 'balcony' extension of access, visual or ignored 'ringiness' of space syntax. However, the most integrated or segregated layouts invert the 'geno-type' into a shallow 'inhabitant' centrality versus the remote 'visitor' structure. Overview of the multivariate social logic of spatial integrity could never clarify without the micro-data analysis.
Abstract: This experimental study consists of a characterization
of epoxy grout where an amount of 2% of graphene nanoplatelets
particles were added to commercial epoxy resin to evaluate their
behavior regarding neat epoxy resin. Compressive tests, tensile tests
and flexural tests were conducted to study the effect of graphene
nanoplatelets on neat epoxy resin. By comparing graphene-based and
neat epoxy grout, there is no significant increase of strength due to
weak interface in the graphene nanoplatelets/epoxy composites.
From this experiment, the tension and flexural strength of graphenebased
epoxy grouts is slightly lower than ones of neat epoxy grout.
Nevertheless, the addition of graphene has produced more consistent
results according to a smaller standard deviation of strength.
Furthermore, the graphene has also improved the ductility of the
grout, hence reducing its brittle behaviour. This shows that the
performance of graphene-based grout is reliably predictable and able
to minimise sudden rupture. This is important since repair design of
damaged pipeline is of deterministic nature.

Abstract: The Haussmannization plan of Cairo in 1867 formed a
regular network of roundabout spaces, though deteriorated at present.
The method of identifying the spatial structure of roundabout Cairo
for conservation matches the voronoi diagram with the space syntax
through their geometrical property of spatial convexity. In this
initiative, the primary convex hull of first-order voronoi adopts the
integral and control measurements of space syntax on Cairo’s
roundabout generators. The functional essence of royal palaces
optimizes the roundabout structure in terms of spatial measurements
and the symbolic voronoi projection of 'Tahrir Roundabout' over the
Giza Nile and Pyramids. Some roundabouts of major public and
commercial landmarks surround the pole of 'Ezbekia Garden' with a
higher control than integral measurements, which filter the new
spatial structure from the adjacent traditional town. Nevertheless, the
least integral and control measures correspond to the voronoi
contents of pollutant workshops and the plateau of old Cairo Citadel
with the visual compensation of new royal landmarks on top.
Meanwhile, the extended suburbs of infinite voronoi polygons
arrange high control generators of chateaux housing in 'garden city'
environs. The point pattern of roundabouts determines the
geometrical characteristics of voronoi polygons. The measured
lengths of voronoi edges alternate between the zoned short range at
the new poles of Cairo and the distributed structure of longer range.
Nevertheless, the shortest range of generator-vertex geometry
concentrates at 'Ezbekia Garden' where the crossways of vast Cairo
intersect, which maximizes the variety of choice at different spatial
resolutions. However, the symbolic 'Hippodrome' which is the largest
public landmark forms exclusive geometrical measurements, while
structuring a most integrative roundabout to parallel the royal syntax.
Overview of the symbolic convex hull of voronoi with space syntax
interconnects Parisian Cairo with the spatial chronology of scattered
monuments to conceive one universal Cairo structure. Accordingly,
the approached methodology of 'voronoi-syntax' prospects the future
conservation of roundabout Cairo at the inferred city-level concept.
Abstract: This research was made during the 2015 growing
periods in the trial filed of "Research Station for Department of Field
Crops, Agricultural Faculty, Selcuk University" according to
“Randomized Blocks Design” with 3 replications. Research material
was the following pea lines; PS16, PS18, PS21, PS23, PS24, PS25,
PS36, PS47, PS49, PS51, PS54, PS58, PS67, PS69, PS71, PS73,
PS83, PS84, PS87 and PSKY and three cultivars and other 2
commercial varieties named as Bolero, Rondo and Ultrello. Some
agronomical characteristics such as plant height (cm) number of pod
per plant number of seed per pod number of seed per plant 100 seed
weight (g) and seed yield (kg ha-1) were determined. The highest seed
yield was obtained 2727.0 kg ha-1 in the PS71 line and the lowest
value was obtained 1238.0 kg ha-1 in the commercial variety of
Bolero. Results of the research implicated that the new developed
lines were superior compared with the control (commercial) varieties
by means of most of the characteristics. Nevertheless, similar
researches should be continued in different locations and years.
Abstract: The research explored the effect of morphemic analysis
awareness on ESL secondary school students’ vocabulary acquisition.
The quasi-experimental study was conducted with 100 ESL
secondary school students in two experimental groups (inflectional
and derivational) and one control group. The students’ vocabulary
acquisition was assessed through two measures: Morph-Analysis Test
and Morph-Vocabulary Test in the pretest and posttest before and
after an intervention programme. Results of ANCOVA revealed that
both the experimental groups achieved a significant score in Morph-
Analysis Test and Vocabulary-Morphemic Test. However, the
inflectional group obtained a fairly higher score than the derivational
group. Thus, the findings of the research are discussed in two main
areas. First, individual instructions of two types of morphemic
awareness have contributed significant results on inflectional and
derivational awareness among the ESL secondary school students.
Nevertheless, derivational morphology achieved a significant but
relatively smaller amount of effect on secondary school students’
morphological awareness compared to inflectional morphology in
this research. Second finding showed that the awareness of
inflectional and derivational morphology was found significantly
related to vocabulary achievement of ESL secondary school students.
Nevertheless, inflectional morphemic awareness had higher
significant effect on ESL secondary school students’ vocabulary
acquisition. Despite these findings, the study implies that morphemic
analysis awareness can serve as an alternative strategy for ESL
secondary school students in acquiring English vocabulary.
Abstract: In the recent past, discussing about sex among
children and youths was frowned at by traditional norms and as such
sexual discussions and behavior were approached with great respect.
Things are actually falling apart with the increasing number of young
people that engage in premarital sex. Due to lack of experience and
sex education, many young people are becoming increasingly
exposed to the risk of HIV infection. In the light of the above, this
study discussed premarital sex, HIV, and use of condom among
youths in Nigeria. Data for this study came from 2013 Nigeria
Demographic and Health Survey and other secondary data. The
survey revealed that only 18.5 percent of young women that had sex
in the 12 months preceding the survey used condom. Out of 3306
never-married sexually active men and women, 1728 representing 52
percent live in urban areas and 43 percent of them did not use
condom during sexual intercourse in the 12 months preceding the
survey. This study concludes that for there to be reduction in
prevalence of HIV/AIDS among Nigerian youths, there is need for
concerted effort to be made towards educating youths on the
expedient of the use of condom during sexual intercourse.
