Abstract: The aim of this paper is to confirm the effect of key
design parameters, the punch radius and punch angle, on rupture of the
expansion tube using a finite element analysis with a ductile damage
model. The results of the finite element analysis indicated that the
expansion ratio of the tube was mainly affected by the radius of the
punch. However, the rupture was more affected by the punch angle
than the radius of the punch. The existence of a specific punch angle,
at which rupture did not occur, even if the radius of the punch was
increased, was found.
Abstract: This paper presents a new study on the applications of
optimization and regression analysis techniques for optimal
calculation of partial ratios of four-step helical gearboxes for getting
minimal gearbox length. In the paper, basing on the moment
equilibrium condition of a mechanic system including four gear units
and their regular resistance condition, models for determination of the
partial ratios of the gearboxes are proposed. In particular, explicit
models for calculation of the partial ratios are proposed by using
regression analysis. Using these models, the determination of the
partial ratios is accurate and simple.
Abstract: In this article we address the problem of mobile robot formation control. Indeed, the most work, in this domain, have studied extensively classical control for keeping a formation of mobile robots. In this work, we design an FLC (Fuzzy logic Controller) controller for separation and bearing control (SBC). Indeed, the leader mobile robot is controlled to follow an arbitrary reference path, and the follower mobile robot use the FSBC (Fuzzy Separation and Bearing Control) to keep constant relative distance and constant angle to the leader robot. The efficiency and simplicity of this control law has been proven by simulation on different situation.
Abstract: The tensile properties of Mg-3%Al nanocrystalline
alloys were investigated at different test environment. Bulk
nanocrystalline samples of these alloy was successfully prepared by
mechanical alloying (MA) followed by cold compaction, sintering,
and hot extrusion process. The crystal size of the consolidated milled
sample was calculated by X-Ray line profile analysis. The
deformation mechanism and microstructural characteristic at
different test condition was discussed extensively. At room
temperature, relatively lower value of activation volume (AV) and
higher value of strain rate sensitivity (SRS) suggests that new rate
controlling mechanism accommodating plastic flow in the present
nanocrystalline sample. The deformation behavior and the
microstructural character of the present samples were discussed in
details.
Abstract: In view of growing competition in the service sector,
services are as much in need of modeling, analysis and improvement
as business or working processes. Graphical process models are
important means to capture process-related know-how for an
effective management of the service process. In this contribution, a
human performance analysis of process model development paying
special attention to model development time and the working method
was conducted. It was found that modelers with higher application
experience need significantly less time for mental activities than
modelers with lower application experience, spend more time on
labeling graphical elements, and achieved higher process model
quality in terms of activity label quality.
Abstract: This paper focuses on systematic analysis and
controller design of the two-inertia STABILIZATION system,
considering the angular motion on a base body. This approach is
essential to the stabilization system to aim at a target under three or six
degrees of freedom base motion. Four controllers, such as
conventional PDF(Pseudo-Derivative Feedback) controller with
motor speed feedback, PDF controller with load speed feedback,
modified PDF controller with motor-load speed feedback and
feedforward controller added to modified PDF controller, are
suggested to improve reference tracking and disturbance rejection
performance. Characteristics and performance of each controller are
analyzed and validated by simulation in the case of the modified PDF
controller with and without a feedforward controller.
Abstract: Supply network management adopts a systematic
and integrative approach to managing the operations and
relationships of various parties in a supply network. The objective
of the manufactures in their supply network is to reduce inventory
costs and increase customer satisfaction levels. One way of doing
that is to synchronize delivery performance. A supply network can
be described by nodes representing the companies and the links
(relationships) between these nodes. Uncertainty in delivery time
depends on type of network relationship between suppliers. The
problem is to understand how the individual uncertainties influence
the total uncertainty of the network and identify those parts of the
network, which has the highest potential for improving the total
delivery time uncertainty.
Abstract: Due to adverse pressure gradient along the diverging
walls of wide-angled diffusers, the attached flow separates from
one wall and remains attached permanently to the other wall in a
process called stalling. Stalled diffusers render the whole fluid flow
system, in which they are part of, very inefficient. There is then an
engineering need to try to understand the whole process of diffuser
stall if any meaningful attempts to improve on diffuser efficiency
are to be made. In this regard, this paper provides a data bank
contribution for the mean flow-field in wide-angled diffusers where
the complete velocity and static pressure fields, and pressure recovery
data for diffusers in the fully stalled flow regime are experimentally
measured. The measurements were carried out at Reynolds numbers
between 1.07×105 and 2.14×105 based on inlet hydraulic diameter
and centreline velocity for diffusers whose divergence angles were
between 30Ôùª and 50Ôùª. Variation of Reynolds number did not significantly
affect the velocity and static pressure profiles. The wall static
pressure recovery was found to be more sensitive to changes in the
Reynolds number. By increasing the velocity from 10 m/s to 20 m/s,
the wall static pressure recovery increased by 8.31%. However, as the
divergence angle was increased, a similar increase in the Reynolds
number resulted in a higher percentage increase in pressure recovery.
Experimental results showed that regardless of the wall to which
the flow was attached, both the velocity and pressure fields were
replicated with discrepancies below 2%.
Abstract: This article discusses the problem of estimating the
orientation of inclined ground on which a human subject stands based
on information provided by the vestibular system consisting of the
otolith and semicircular canals. It is assumed that body segments are
not necessarily aligned and thus forming an open kinematic chain.
The semicircular canals analogues to a technical gyrometer provide a
measure of the angular velocity whereas the otolith analogues to a
technical accelerometer provide a measure of the translational
acceleration. Two solutions are proposed and discussed. The first is
based on a stand-alone Kalman filter that optimally fuses the two
measurements based on their dynamic characteristics and their noise
properties. In this case, no body dynamic model is needed. In the
second solution, a central extended disturbance observer that
incorporates a body dynamic model (internal model) is employed.
The merits of both solutions are discussed and demonstrated by
experimental and simulation results.
Abstract: Constant amplitude fatigue crack growth (FCG) tests
were performed on dissimilar metal welded plates of Type 316L
Stainless Steel (SS) and IS 2062 Grade A Carbon steel (CS). The
plates were welded by TIG welding using SS E309 as electrode. FCG
tests were carried on the Side Edge Notch Tension (SENT)
specimens of 5 mm thickness, with crack initiator (notch) at base
metal region (BM), weld metal region (WM) and heat affected zones
(HAZ). The tests were performed at a test frequency of 10 Hz and at
load ratios (R) of 0.1 & 0.6. FCG rate was found to increase with
stress ratio for weld metals and base metals, where as in case of
HAZ, FCG rates were almost equal at high ΔK. FCG rate of HAZ of
stainless steel was found to be lowest at low and high ΔK. At
intermediate ΔK, WM showed the lowest FCG rate. CS showed
higher crack growth rate at all ΔK. However, the scatter band of data
was found to be narrow. Fracture toughness (Kc) was found to vary
in different locations of weldments. Kc was found lowest for the
weldment and highest for HAZ of stainless steel. A novel method of
characterizing the FCG behavior using an Infrared thermography
(IRT) camera was attempted. By monitoring the temperature rise at
the fast moving crack tip region, the amount of plastic deformation
was estimated.
Abstract: The decision of information technology (IT) outsourcing requires close attention to the evaluation of supplier selection process because the selection decision involves conflicting multiple criteria and is replete with complex decision making problems. Selecting the most appropriate suppliers is considered an important strategic decision that may impact the performance of outsourcing engagements. The objective of this paper is to aid decision makers to evaluate and assess possible IT outsourcing suppliers. An axiomatic design based fuzzy group decision making is adopted to evaluate supplier alternatives. Finally, a case study is given to demonstrate the potential of the methodology. Abstract: This research proposes the state of art on how to control or find the trajectory paths of the RRP robot when the prismatic joint is malfunction. According to this situation, the minimum energy of the dynamic optimization is applied. The RRP robot or similar systems have been used in many areas such as fire fighter truck, laboratory equipment and military truck for example a rocket launcher. In order to keep on task that assigned, the trajectory paths must be computed. Here, the open loop control is applied and the result of an example show the reasonable solution which can be applied to the controllable system.
Abstract: The paper describes ergonomics problems trend of
student at B5101 classroom building 2, Suranaree University of
Technology. The objective to survey ergonomics problems and effect
from use chairs for sitting in class room. The result from survey
method 100 student they use lecture chair for sitting in classroom
more than 2 hours/ day by RULA[1]. and Body discomfort survey[2].
The result from Body discomfort survey contribute fatigue problems
at neck, lower back, upper back and right shoulder 2.93, 2.91, 2.33,
1.75 respectively and result from RULA contribute fatigue problems
at neck, body and right upper arm 4.00, 3.75 and 3.00 respectively
are consistent. After that the researcher provide improvement plan
for design new chair support student fatigue reduction by prepare
data of sample anthropometry and design ergonomics chair prototype
3 unit. Then sample 100 student trial to use new chair and evaluate
again by RULA, Body discomfort and satisfaction. The result from
trial new chair after improvement by RULA present fatigue reduction
average of head and neck from 4.00 to 2.25 , body and trunk from
3.75 to 2.00 and arm force from 1.00 to 0.25 respectively. The result
from trial new chair after improvement by Body discomfort present
fatigue reduction average of lower back from 2.91 to 0.87, neck from
2.93 to 1.24, upper back 2.33 to 0.84 and right upper arm from 1.75
to 0.74. That statistical of RULA and Body discomfort survey
present fatigue reduction after improvement significance with a
confidence level of 95% (p-value 0.05). When analyzing the
relationship of fatigue as part of the body by Chi – square test during
RULA and Body discomfort that before and after improvements were
consistent with the significant level of confidence 95% (p-value 0.05)
. Moreover the students satisfaction result from trial with a new chair
for 30 minutes [3]. 72 percent very satisfied of the folding of the
secondary writing simple 66% the width of the writing plate, 64% the
suitability of the writing plate, 62% of soft seat cushion and 61%
easy to seat the chair.
Abstract: In the present paper, Fatigue life assessment of an
anti-roll bar component of a passenger vehicle, is investigated by
ANSYS 11 software. A stress analysis is also carried out by the
finite element technique for the determination of highly stressed
regions on the bar. Anti-roll bar is a suspension element used at the
front, rear, or at both ends of a car that reduces body roll by resisting
any unequal vertical motion between the pair of wheels to which it is
connected. As a first stage, fatigue damage models proposed by some
well-known references and the corresponding assumptions are
discussed and some enhancements are proposed. Then, fracture
analysis of an anti-roll bar of an automobile is carried out. The
analysed type of the anti-roll bar is especially important as many
cases are reported about the fracture after a 100,000 km of travel
fatigue and fracture conditions. This paper demonstrates fatigue life
of an anti-roll bar and then evaluated by experimental analytically
results from other researcher.
Abstract: In order to enhance the aircraft survivability, the
infrared signatures emitted by hot engine parts should be determined
exactly. For its reduction it is necessary for the rear fuselage
temperature to be decreased. In this study, numerical modeling of flow
fields and heat transfer characteristics of an aircraft nozzle is
performed and its temperature distribution along each component wall
is predicted. The radiation shield is expected to reduce the skin
temperature of rear fuselage. The effect of material characteristic of
radiation shield on the heat transfer is also investigated. Through this
numerical analysis, design parameters related to the susceptibility of
aircraft are examined.
Abstract: This paper addresses the problem of trajectory
tracking control of an underactuated autonomous underwater vehicle
(AUV) in the horizontal plane. The underwater vehicle under
consideration is not actuated in the sway direction, and the system
matrices are not assumed to be diagonal and linear, as often found in
the literature. In addition, the effect of constant bias of environmental
disturbances is considered. Using backstepping techniques and the
tracking error dynamics, the system states are stabilized by forcing
the tracking errors to an arbitrarily small neighborhood of zero. The
effectiveness of the proposed control method is demonstrated through
numerical simulations. Simulations are carried out for an
experimental vehicle for smooth, inertial, two dimensional (2D)
reference trajectories such as constant velocity trajectory (a circle
maneuver – constant yaw rate), and time varying velocity trajectory
(a sinusoidal path – sinusoidal yaw rate).
Abstract: Subsonic wind tunnel experiments were conducted to
study the effect of tripped boundary layer on the pressure distribution
in the contraction region of the tunnel. Measurements were
performed by installing trip strip at two different positions in the
concave portion of the contraction. The results show that installation
of the trip strips, have significant effects on both turbulence and
pressure distribution. The reduction in the free stream turbulence and
reduction of the wall static pressure distribution deferred signified
with the location of the trip strip.
Abstract: An exact algorithm for a n-link manipulator movement amidst arbitrary unknown static obstacles is presented.
The algorithm guarantees the reaching of a target configuration of the manipulator in a finite number of steps. The algorithm is
reduced to a finite number of calls of a subroutine for planning a trajectory in the presence of known forbidden states. The polynomial approximation algorithm which is used as the subroutine is presented. The results of the exact algorithm
implementation for the control of a seven link (7 degrees of
freedom, 7DOF) manipulator are given.
Abstract: Friction Stir Welding is a solid state welding technique which can be used to produce sound welds between similar and dissimilar materials. Dissimilar welds which include welds between the different series of aluminium alloys, aluminium to magnesium, steel and titanium has been successfully produced by many researchers. This review covers the work conducted in the above mentioned materials and further concludes by showing the need to fully understand the FSW process in order to expand the latter industrially.
Abstract: When considering the development of constitutive
equations describing the behavior of materials under cyclic plastic
strains, different kinds of formulations can be adopted. The primary
intention of this study is to develop computer programming of
plasticity models to accurately predict the life of engineering
components. For this purpose, the energy or cyclic strain is computed
in multi-surface plasticity models in non-proportional loading and to
present their procedures and codes results.
