Abstract: In this article, by using fuzzy AHP and TOPSIS
technique we propose a new method for project selection problem.
After reviewing four common methods of comparing alternatives
investment (net present value, rate of return, benefit cost analysis
and payback period) we use them as criteria in AHP tree. In this
methodology by utilizing improved Analytical Hierarchy Process
by Fuzzy set theory, first we try to calculate weight of each
criterion. Then by implementing TOPSIS algorithm, assessment of
projects has been done. Obtained results have been tested in a
numerical example.
Abstract: The aim of this study is to determine the effect of
strategic management implementations on the institutionalization
levels. In this regard a field study has been made over 31 stone quarry
enterprises in cement producing sector in Konya by using survey
method. In this study, institutionalization levels of the enterprises
have been evaluated regarding three dimensions: professionalization,
management approach, participation in decisions and delegation of
authority. According to the results of the survey, there is a highly
positive and statistically significant relationship between the strategic
management implementations and institutionalization levels of the
enterprises. Additionally,-considering the results of regression
analysis made for establishing the relationship between strategic
management and institutionalization levels- it has been determined
that strategic management implementations of the enterprises can be
used as a variable to explain the institutionalization levels of them,
and also strategic management implementations of the enterprises
increase the institutionalization levels of them.
Abstract: Many agent-oriented software engineering
methodologies have been proposed for software developing; however
their application is still limited due to their lack of maturity.
Evaluating the strengths and weaknesses of these methodologies
plays an important role in improving them and in developing new
stronger methodologies. This paper presents an evaluation framework
for agent-oriented methodologies, which addresses six major areas:
concepts, notation, process, pragmatics, support for software
engineering and marketability. The framework is then used to
evaluate the Gaia methodology to identify its strengths and
weaknesses, and to prove the ability of the framework for promoting
the agent-oriented methodologies by detecting their weaknesses in
detail.
Abstract: This research is a comparative study of complexity, as a multidimensional concept, in the context of streetscape composition in Algeria and Japan. 80 streetscapes visual arrays have been collected and then presented to 20 participants, with different cultural backgrounds, in order to be categorized and classified according to their degrees of complexity. Three analysis methods have been used in this research: cluster analysis, ranking method and Hayashi Quantification method (Method III). The results showed that complexity, disorder, irregularity and disorganization are often conflicting concepts in the urban context. Algerian daytime streetscapes seem to be balanced, ordered and regular, and Japanese daytime streetscapes seem to be unbalanced, regular and vivid. Variety, richness and irregularity with some aspects of order and organization seem to characterize Algerian night streetscapes. Japanese night streetscapes seem to be more related to balance, regularity, order and organization with some aspects of confusion and ambiguity. Complexity characterized mainly Algerian avenues with green infrastructure. Therefore, for Japanese participants, Japanese traditional night streetscapes were complex. And for foreigners, Algerian and Japanese avenues nightscapes were the most complex visual arrays.
Abstract: Extensive use of the Internet coupled with the
marvelous growth in e-commerce and m-commerce has created a
huge demand for information security. The Secure Socket Layer
(SSL) protocol is the most widely used security protocol in the
Internet which meets this demand. It provides protection against
eaves droppings, tampering and forgery. The cryptographic
algorithms RC4 and HMAC have been in use for achieving security
services like confidentiality and authentication in the SSL. But recent
attacks against RC4 and HMAC have raised questions in the
confidence on these algorithms. Hence two novel cryptographic
algorithms MAJE4 and MACJER-320 have been proposed as
substitutes for them. The focus of this work is to demonstrate the
performance of these new algorithms and suggest them as dependable
alternatives to satisfy the need of security services in SSL. The
performance evaluation has been done by using practical
implementation method.
Abstract: This paper aims at presenting the biotechnology used
to obtain collagen-based gels from shark (Squalus acanthias) and brill
skin, marine fish growing in the Black Sea. Due to the structure of its
micro-fibres, collagen can be considered a nanomaterial; in order to
use collagen-based matrixes as biomaterial, rheological studies must
be performed first, to state whether they are stable or not. For the
triple-helix structure to remain stable within these gels at room or
human body temperature, they must be stabilized by reticulation.
Abstract: One of the determinants of a firm-s prosperity is the
customers- perceived service quality and satisfaction. While service
quality is wide in scope, and consists of various dimensions, there
may be differences in the relative importance of these dimensions in
affecting customers- overall satisfaction of service quality.
Identifying the relative rank of different dimensions of service quality
is very important in that it can help managers to find out which
service dimensions have a greater effect on customers- overall
satisfaction. Such an insight will consequently lead to more effective
resource allocation which will finally end in higher levels of
customer satisfaction. This issue –despite its criticality- has not
received enough attention so far. Therefore, using a sample of 240
bank customers in Iran, an artificial neural network is developed to
address this gap in the literature. As customers- evaluation of service
quality is a subjective process, artificial neural networks –as a brain
metaphor- may appear to have a potentiality to model such a
complicated process. Proposing a neural network which is able to
predict the customers- overall satisfaction of service quality with a
promising level of accuracy is the first contribution of this study. In
addition, prioritizing the service quality dimensions in affecting
customers- overall satisfaction –by using sensitivity analysis of
neural network- is the second important finding of this paper.
Abstract: Intravitreal injection (IVI) is the most common treatment for eye posterior segment diseases such as endopthalmitis, retinitis, age-related macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, uveitis, and retinal detachment. Most of the drugs used to treat vitreoretinal diseases, have a narrow concentration range in which they are effective, and may be toxic at higher concentrations. Therefore, it is critical to know the drug distribution within the eye following intravitreal injection. Having knowledge of drug distribution, ophthalmologists can decide on drug injection frequency while minimizing damage to tissues. The goal of this study was to develop a computer model to predict intraocular concentrations and pharmacokinetics of intravitreally injected drugs. A finite volume model was created to predict distribution of two drugs with different physiochemical properties in the rabbit eye. The model parameters were obtained from literature review. To validate this numeric model, the in vivo data of spatial concentration profile from the lens to the retina were compared with the numeric data. The difference was less than 5% between the numerical and experimental data. This validation provides strong support for the numerical methodology and associated assumptions of the current study.
Abstract: This paper presents the design related to the
electronic system design of the respiratory signal, including phases
for processing, followed by the transmission and reception of this
signal and finally display. The processing of this signal is added to
the ECG and temperature sign, put up last year. Under this scheme is
proposed that in future also be conditioned blood pressure signal
under the same final printed circuit and worked.
Abstract: Refractive index control of benzocyclobutene (BCB 4024-40) is achieved by facilitating different conditions during the thermal curing of BCB film. Refractive index (RI) change of 1.49% is obtained with curing of BCB film using an oven, while the RI change is 0.1% when the BCB is cured using a hotplate. The two different curing methods exhibit a temperature dependent refractive index change of the BCB photosensitive polymer. By carefully controlling the curing conditions, multiple layers of BCB with different RI can be fabricated, which can then be applied in the fabrication of optical waveguides.
Abstract: The present study has been carried out with a view to calculate the coastal vulnerability index (CVI) to know the high and low sensitive areas and area of inundation due to future SLR. Both conventional and remotely sensed data were used and analyzed through the modelling technique. Out of the total study area, 8.26% is very high risk, 14.21% high, 9.36% medium, 22.46% low and 7.35% in the very low vulnerable category, due to costal components. Results of the inundation analysis indicate that 225.2 km² and 397 km² of the land area will be submerged by flooding at 1m and 10m inundation levels. The most severely affected sectors are expected to be the residential, industrial and recreational areas. As this coast is planned for future coastal developmental activities, measures such as industrializations, building regulation, urban growth planning and agriculture, development of an integrated coastal zone management, strict enforcement of the Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ) Act, monitoring of impacts and further research in this regard are recommended for the study area.
Abstract: Deformable active contours are widely used in
computer vision and image processing applications for image
segmentation, especially in biomedical image analysis. The active
contour or “snake" deforms towards a target object by controlling the
internal, image and constraint forces. However, if the contour
initialized with a lesser number of control points, there is a high
probability of surpassing the sharp corners of the object during
deformation of the contour. In this paper, a new technique is
proposed to construct the initial contour by incorporating prior
knowledge of significant corners of the object detected using the
Harris operator. This new reconstructed contour begins to deform, by
attracting the snake towards the targeted object, without missing the
corners. Experimental results with several synthetic images show the
ability of the new technique to deal with sharp corners with a high
accuracy than traditional methods.
Abstract: Undoubtedly, chassis is one of the most important
parts of a vehicle. Chassis that today are produced for vehicles are
made up of four parts. These parts are jointed together by screwing.
Transverse parts are called cross member.
This study reviews the stress generated by cyclic laboratory loads
in front cross member of Peugeot 405. In this paper the finite element
method is used to simulate the welding process and to determine the
physical response of the spot-welded joints. Analysis is done by the
Abaqus software.
The Stresses generated in cross member structure are generally
classified into two groups: The stresses remained in form of residual
stresses after welding process and the mechanical stress generated by
cyclic load. Accordingly the total stress must be obtained by
determining residual stress and mechanical stress separately and then
sum them according to the superposition principle.
In order to improve accuracy, material properties including
physical, thermal and mechanical properties were supposed to be
temperature-dependent. Simulation shows that maximum Von Misses
stresses are located at special points. The model results are then
compared to the experimental results which are reported by
producing factory and good agreement is observed.
Abstract: The fundamental defect inherent to the thermoforming
technology is wall-thickness variation of the products due to
inadequate thermal processing during production of polymer. A
nonlinear viscoelastic rheological model is implemented for
developing the process model. This model describes deformation
process of a sheet in thermoforming process. Because of relaxation
pause after plug-assist stage and also implementation of two stage
thermoforming process have minor wall-thickness variation and
consequently better mechanical properties of polymeric articles. For
model validation, a comparative analysis of the theoretical and
experimental data is presented.
Abstract: In projects like waterpower, transportation and
mining, etc., proving up the rock-mass structure and hidden tectonic
to estimate the geological body-s activity is very important.
Integrating the seismic results, drilling and trenching data,
CSAMT method was carried out at a planning dame site in southwest
China to evaluate the stability of a deformation. 2D and imitated 3D
inversion resistivity results of CSAMT method were analyzed. The
results indicated that CSAMT was an effective method for defining
an outline of deformation body to several hundred meters deep; the
Lung Pan Deformation was stable in natural conditions; but uncertain
after the future reservoir was impounded.
This research presents a good case study of the fine surveying and
research on complex geological structure and hidden tectonic in
engineering project.
Abstract: Bone remodeling occurs by the balanced action of
bone resorbing osteoclasts (OC) and bone-building osteoblasts.
Increased bone resorption by excessive OC activity contributes
to malignant and non-malignant diseases including osteoporosis.
To study OC differentiation and function, OC formed in
in vitro cultures are currently counted manually, a tedious
procedure which is prone to inter-observer differences. Aiming
for an automated OC-quantification system, classification of
OC and precursor cells was done on fluorescence microscope
images based on the distinct appearance of fluorescent nuclei.
Following ellipse fitting to nuclei, a combination of eight
features enabled clustering of OC and precursor cell nuclei.
After evaluating different machine-learning techniques, LOGREG
achieved 74% correctly classified OC and precursor cell
nuclei, outperforming human experts (best expert: 55%). In
combination with the automated detection of total cell areas,
this system allows to measure various cell parameters and most
importantly to quantify proteins involved in osteoclastogenesis.
Abstract: In this paper, we propose a novel improvement for the generalized Lloyd Algorithm (GLA). Our algorithm makes use of an M-tree index built on the codebook which makes it possible to reduce the number of distance computations when the nearest code words are searched. Our method does not impose the use of any specific distance function, but works with any metric distance, making it more general than many other fast GLA variants. Finally, we present the positive results of our performance experiments.
Abstract: A new digital transceiver circuit for asynchronous frame detection is proposed where both the transmitter and receiver contain all digital components, thereby avoiding possible use of conventional devices like monostable multivibrators with unstable external components such as resistances and capacitances. The proposed receiver circuit, in particular, uses a combinational logic block yielding an output which changes its state as soon as the start bit of a new frame is detected. This, in turn, helps in generating an efficient receiver sampling clock. A data latching circuit is also used in the receiver to latch the recovered data bits in any new frame. The proposed receiver structure is also extended from 4- bit information to any general n data bits within a frame with a common expression for the output of the combinational logic block. Performance of the proposed hardware design is evaluated in terms of time delay, reliability and robustness in comparison with the standard schemes using monostable multivibrators. It is observed from hardware implementation that the proposed circuit achieves almost 33 percent speed up over any conventional circuit.
Abstract: This paper is mainly concerned with the application of a novel technique of data interpretation to the characterization and classification of measurements of plasma columns in Tokamak reactors for nuclear fusion applications. The proposed method exploits several concepts derived from soft computing theory. In particular, Artifical Neural Networks have been exploited to classify magnetic variables useful to determine shape and position of the plasma with a reduced computational complexity. The proposed technique is used to analyze simulated databases of plasma equilibria based on ITER geometry configuration. As well as demonstrating the successful recovery of scalar equilibrium parameters, we show that the technique can yield practical advantages compares with earlier methods.
Abstract: The present paper proposes high performance nonlinear
force controllers for a servopneumatic real-time fatigue test
machine. A CompactRIO® controller was used, being fully
programmed using LabVIEW language. Fuzzy logic control
algorithms were evaluated to tune the integral and derivative
components in the development of hybrid controllers, namely a FLC
P and a hybrid FLC PID real-time-based controllers. Their
behaviours were described by using state diagrams. The main
contribution is to ensure a smooth transition between control states,
avoiding discrete transitions in controller outputs. Steady-state errors
lower than 1.5 N were reached, without retuning the controllers.
Good results were also obtained for sinusoidal tracking tasks from
1/¤Ç to 8/¤Ç Hz.
