Abstract: The paper focuses on the enhanced stiffness modeling
of robotic manipulators by taking into account influence of the external force/torque acting upon the end point. It implements the
virtual joint technique that describes the compliance of manipulator elements by a set of localized six-dimensional springs separated by
rigid links and perfect joints. In contrast to the conventional
formulation, which is valid for the unloaded mode and small
displacements, the proposed approach implicitly assumes that the loading leads to the non-negligible changes of the manipulator posture and corresponding amendment of the Jacobian. The
developed numerical technique allows computing the static
equilibrium and relevant force/torque reaction of the manipulator for
any given displacement of the end-effector. This enables designer
detecting essentially nonlinear effects in elastic behavior of
manipulator, similar to the buckling of beam elements. It is also proposed the linearization procedure that is based on the inversion of
the dedicated matrix composed of the stiffness parameters of the
virtual springs and the Jacobians/Hessians of the active and passive
joints. The developed technique is illustrated by an application example that deals with the stiffness analysis of a parallel
manipulator of the Orthoglide family
Abstract: In this paper we present two novel 1-bit full adder
cells in dynamic logic style. NP-CMOS (Zipper) and Multi-Output
structures are used to design the adder blocks. Characteristic of
dynamic logic leads to higher speeds than the other standard static
full adder cells. Using HSpice and 0.18┬Ám CMOS technology
exhibits a significant decrease in the cell delay which can result in a
considerable reduction in the power-delay product (PDP). The PDP
of Multi-Output design at 1.8v power supply is around 0.15 femto
joule that is 5% lower than conventional dynamic full adder cell and
at least 21% lower than other static full adders.
Abstract: Voltage flicker is a disturbance in electrical power
systems. The reason for this disturbance is mainly the large nonlinear
loads such as electric arc furnaces. Synchronous static
compensator (STATCOM) is considered as a proper technique to
mitigate the voltage flicker. Application of more suitable and precise
power electronic converter leads to a more precise performance of the
compensator. In this paper a three-level 12-pulse voltage source
inverter (VSI) with a 12-terminal transformer connected to the ac
system is studied and the obtained results are compared with the
performance of a STATCOM using a simple two-level VSI and an
optimal and more precise performance of the proposed scheme is
achieved.
Abstract: The present study explains the effect of aggregate
gradation on moisture damage in bituminous mixes. Three types of
aggregate gradation and two types of binder; VG-30 and Polymer
modified bitumen (PMB-40) are used. Moisture susceptibility tests
like retained stability and tensile strength ratio (TSR) and static creep
test are conducted on Marshall specimens. The creep test was also
conducted for conditioned and unconditioned specimens to observe
the effect of moisture on creep behaviour. The results indicate that
Marshall stability value is higher in PMB-40 mix than VG-30 mixes.
Moisture susceptibility of PMB-40 mixes is low when compared with
mix using VG-30. The reduction in retained stability, and indirect
tensile strength and increase in creep are evaluated for finer, coarser
and normal gradation of aggregate to observe the effect of gradation
on moisture susceptibility of mixes. The retained stability is least
affected when compared with other moisture susceptibility
parameters
Abstract: This article presents the analysis of experimental values regarding cracking pattern, specific strains and deformability for reinforced high strength concrete beams. The beams have the concrete class C80/95 and a longitudinal reinforcement ratio of 2.01%, respectively 3.39%. The elements were subjected to flexure under static short-term and long-term loading. The experimental values are compared with calculation values using the design relationships according to Eurocode 2.
Abstract: As the world move to the accomplishment of Performance Based Engineering philosophies in seismic design of Civil Engineering structures, new seismic design provisions require Structural Engineers to perform both static and dynamic analysis for the design of structures. While Linear Equivalent Static Analysis is performed for regular buildings up to 90m height in zone I and II, Dynamic Analysis should be performed for regular and irregular buildings in zone IV and V. Dynamic Analysis can take the form of a dynamic Time History Analysis or a linear Response Spectrum Analysis. In present study, Multi-storey irregular buildings with 20 stories have been modeled using software packages ETABS and SAP 2000 v.15 for seismic zone V in India. This paper also deals with the effect of the variation of the building height on the structural response of the shear wall building. Dynamic responses of building under actual earthquakes, EL-CENTRO 1949 and CHI-CHI Taiwan 1999 have been investigated. This paper highlights the accuracy and exactness of Time History analysis in comparison with the most commonly adopted Response Spectrum Analysis and Equivalent Static Analysis.
Abstract: Software complexity metrics are used to predict
critical information about reliability and maintainability of software
systems. Object oriented software development requires a different
approach to software complexity metrics. Object Oriented Software
Metrics can be broadly classified into static and dynamic metrics.
Static Metrics give information at the code level whereas dynamic
metrics provide information on the actual runtime. In this paper we
will discuss the various complexity metrics, and the comparison
between static and dynamic complexity.
Abstract: A hybrid feature based adaptive particle filter algorithm is presented for object tracking in real scenarios with static camera.
The hybrid feature is combined by two effective features: the Grayscale Arranging Pairs (GAP) feature and the color histogram feature. The GAP feature has high discriminative ability even under conditions of severe illumination variation and dynamic background
elements, while the color histogram feature has high reliability to identify the detected objects. The combination of two features covers the shortage of single feature. Furthermore, we adopt an updating
target model so that some external problems such as visual angles can be overcame well. An automatic initialization algorithm is introduced which provides precise initial positions of objects. The experimental
results show the good performance of the proposed method.
Abstract: The use of power system stabilizers (PSSs) to damp
power system swing mode of oscillations is practical important. Our
purpose is to retune the power system stabilizer (PSS1A) parameters
in Unitrol D produced by ABB– was installed in 1995in Benghazi
North Power Plants (BNPPs) at General Electricity Company of
Libya (GECOL). The optimal values of the power system stabilizer
(PSS1A) parameters are determined off-line by a particle swarm
optimization technique (PSO). The objective is to damp the local and
inter-area modes of oscillations that occur following power system
disturbances. The retuned power system stabilizer (PSS1A) can cope
with large disturbance at different operating points and has enhanced
power system stability.
Abstract: Non-viral gene carriers composed of biodegradable
polymers or lipids have been considered as a safer alternative for gene
carriers over viral vectors. We have developed multi-functional
nano-micelles for both drug and gene delivery application.
Polyethyleneimine (PEI) was modified by grafting stearic acid (SA)
and formulated to polymeric micelles (PEI-SA) with positive surface
charge for gene and drug delivery. Our results showed that PEI-SA
micelles provided high siRNA binding efficiency. In addition, siRNA
delivered by PEI-SA carriers also demonstrated significantly high
cellular uptake even in the presence of serum proteins. The
post-transcriptional gene silencing efficiency was greatly improved by
the polyplex formulated by 10k PEI-SA/siRNA. The amphiphilic
structure of PEI-SA micelles provided advantages for multifunctional
tasks; where the hydrophilic shell modified with cationic charges can
electrostatically interact with DNA or siRNA, and the hydrophobic
core can serve as payloads for hydrophobic drugs, making it a
promising multifunctional vehicle for both genetic and chemotherapy
application.
Abstract: This paper introduces an adiabatic register file based
on two-phase CPAL (Complementary Pass-Transistor Adiabatic
Logic circuits) with power-gating scheme, which can operate on a
single-phase power clock. A 32×32 single-phase adiabatic register file
with power-gating scheme has been implemented with TSMC 0.18μm
CMOS technology. All the circuits except for the storage cells employ
two-phase CPAL circuits, and the storage cell is based on the
conventional memory one. The two-phase non-overlap power-clock
generator with power-gating scheme is used to supply the proposed
adiabatic register file. Full-custom layouts are drawn. The energy and
functional simulations have been performed using the net-list
extracted from their layouts. Compared with the traditional static
CMOS register file, HSPICE simulations show that the proposed
adiabatic register file can work very well, and it attains about 73%
energy savings at 100 MHz.
Abstract: Distance visualization of large datasets often takes the direction of remote viewing and zooming techniques of stored static images. However, the continuous increase in the size of datasets and visualization operation causes insufficient performance with traditional desktop computers. Additionally, the visualization techniques such as Isosurface depend on the available resources of the running machine and the size of datasets. Moreover, the continuous demand for powerful computing powers and continuous increase in the size of datasets results an urgent need for a grid computing infrastructure. However, some issues arise in current grid such as resources availability at the client machines which are not sufficient enough to process large datasets. On top of that, different output devices and different network bandwidth between the visualization pipeline components often result output suitable for one machine and not suitable for another. In this paper we investigate how the grid services could be used to support remote visualization of large datasets and to break the constraint of physical co-location of the resources by applying the grid computing technologies. We show our grid enabled architecture to visualize large medical datasets (circa 5 million polygons) for remote interactive visualization on modest resources clients.
Abstract: Animation is simply defined as the sequencing of a
series of static images to generate the illusion of movement. Most
people believe that actual drawings or creation of the individual
images is the animation, when in actuality it is the arrangement of
those static images that conveys the motion. To become an animator,
it is often assumed that needed the ability to quickly design
masterpiece after masterpiece. Although some semblance of artistic
skill is a necessity for the job, the real key to becoming a great
animator is in the comprehension of timing. This paper will use a
combination of sprite animation, frame animation, and some other
techniques to cause a group of multi-colored static images to slither
around in the bounded area. In addition to slithering, the images
will also change the color of different parts of their body, much like
the real world creatures that have this amazing ability to change the
colors on their bodies do. This paper was implemented by using
Java 2 Standard Edition (J2SE).
It is both time-consuming and expensive to create animations,
regardless if they are created by hand or by using motion-capture
equipment. If the animators could reuse old animations and even
blend different animations together, a lot of work would be saved in
the process. The main objective of this paper is to examine a method
for blending several animations together in real time. This paper
presents and analyses a solution using Weighted Skeleton
Animation (WSA) resulting in limited CPU time and memory waste
as well as saving time for the animators. The idea presented is
described in detail and implemented. In this paper, text animation,
vertex animation, sprite part animation and whole sprite animation
were tested.
In this research paper, the resolution, smoothness and movement
of animated images will be carried out from the parameters, which
will be obtained from the experimental research of implementing
this paper.
Abstract: The paper presents an on-line recognition machine
(RM) for continuous/isolated, dynamic and static gestures that arise
in Flight Deck Officer (FDO) training. RM is based on generic pattern
recognition framework. Gestures are represented as templates using
summary statistics. The proposed recognition algorithm exploits temporal
and spatial characteristics of gestures via dynamic programming
and Markovian process. The algorithm predicts corresponding index
of incremental input data in the templates in an on-line mode.
Accumulated consistency in the sequence of prediction provides a
similarity measurement (Score) between input data and the templates.
The algorithm provides an intuitive mechanism for automatic detection
of start/end frames of continuous gestures. In the present paper,
we consider isolated gestures. The performance of RM is evaluated
using four datasets - artificial (W TTest), hand motion (Yang) and
FDO (tracker, vision-based ). RM achieves comparable results which
are in agreement with other on-line and off-line algorithms such as
hidden Markov model (HMM) and dynamic time warping (DTW).
The proposed algorithm has the additional advantage of providing
timely feedback for training purposes.
Abstract: Solar Cells are destined to supply electric energy beginning from primary resources. It can charge a battery up to 12V dc. For residential use an inverter for 12V dc to 220Vac conversion is desired. For this a static DC-AC converter is necessarily inserted between the solar cells and the distribution network. This paper describes a new P.W.M. strategy for a voltage source inverter. This modulation strategy reduces the energy losses and harmonics in the P.W.M. voltage source inverter. This technique allows the P.W.M. voltage source inverter to become a new feasible solution for solar home application.
Abstract: In nature, electromagnetic fields always appear like
atmosphere static electric field, the earth's static magnetic field and
the wide-rang frequency electromagnetic field caused by lightening.
However, besides natural electromagnetic fields (EMF), today human
beings are mostly exposed to artificial electromagnetic fields due to
technology progress and outspread use of electrical devices. To
evaluate nuisance of EMF, it is necessary to know field intensity for
every frequency which appears and compare it with allowed values.
Low frequency EMF-s around transmission and distribution lines are
time-varying quasi-static electromagnetic fields which have
conservative component of low frequency electrical field caused by
charges and eddy component of low frequency magnetic field caused
by currents. Displacement current or field delay are negligible, so
energy flow in quasi-static EMF involves diffusion, analog like heat
transfer. Electrical and magnetic field can be analyzed separately.
This paper analysis the numerical calculations in ELF-400 software
of EMF in distribution substation in shopping center. Analyzing the
results it is possible to specify locations exposed to the fields and
give useful suggestion to eliminate electromagnetic effect or reduce it
on acceptable level within the non-ionizing radiation norms and
norms of protection from EMF.
Abstract: Because of architectural condition and structure application, sometimes mass source and stiffness source are not coincidence, and the structure is irregular. The structure is also might be asymmetric as an asymmetric bracing in plan which leads to unbalance distribution of stiffness or because of unbalance distribution of the mass. Both condition lead to eccentricity and torsion in the structure. The deficiency of ordinary code to evaluate the performance of steel structures against earthquake has been caused designing based on performance level or capacity spectrum be used. By using the mentioned methods it is possible to design a structure that its behavior against different earthquakes be predictive. In this article 5- story buildings with different percentage of asymmetric which is because of stiffness changes have been designed. The static and dynamic nonlinear analysis under three acceleration recording has been done. Finally performance level of the structure has been evaluated.
Abstract: This paper is a continuation of our interest in the influence of temperature on specific retention volumes and the resulting infinite dilution activity coefficients. This has a direct effect in the design of absorption and stripping columns for the abatement of volatile organic compounds. The interaction of 13 volatile organic compounds (VOCs) with polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) at varying temperatures was studied by gas liquid chromatography (GLC). Infinite dilution activity coefficients and specific retention volumes obtained in this study were found to be in agreement with those obtained from static headspace and group contribution methods by the authors as well as literature values for similar systems. Temperature variation also allows for transport calculations for different seasons. The results of this work confirm that PDMS is well suited for the scrubbing of VOCs from waste gas streams. Plots of specific retention volumes against temperature gave linear van-t Hoff plots.
Abstract: In areas of low to moderate seismicity many building contents and equipment are not positively fixed to the floor or tied to adjacent walls. Under seismic induced horizontal vibration, such contents and equipment can suffer from damage by either overturning or impact associated with rocking. This paper focuses on the estimation of shock on typical contents and equipment due to rocking. A simplified analytical model is outlined that can be used to estimate the maximum acceleration on a rocking object given its basic geometric and mechanical properties. The developed model was validated against experimental results. The experimental results revealed that the maximum shock acceleration can be underestimated if the static stiffness of the materials at the interface between the rocking object and floor is used rather than the dynamic stiffness. Excellent agreement between the model and experimental results was found when the dynamic stiffness for the interface material was used, which was found to be generally much higher than corresponding static stiffness under different investigated boundary conditions of the cushion. The proposed model can be a beneficial tool in performing a rapid assessment of shock sensitive components considered for possible seismic rectification.
Abstract: We have defined two suites of metrics, which cover
static and dynamic aspects of component assembly. The static
metrics measure complexity and criticality of component assembly,
wherein complexity is measured using Component Packing Density
and Component Interaction Density metrics. Further, four criticality
conditions namely, Link, Bridge, Inheritance and Size criticalities
have been identified and quantified. The complexity and criticality
metrics are combined to form a Triangular Metric, which can be used
to classify the type and nature of applications. Dynamic metrics are
collected during the runtime of a complete application. Dynamic
metrics are useful to identify super-component and to evaluate the
degree of utilisation of various components. In this paper both static
and dynamic metrics are evaluated using Weyuker-s set of properties.
The result shows that the metrics provide a valid means to measure
issues in component assembly. We relate our metrics suite with
McCall-s Quality Model and illustrate their impact on product
quality and to the management of component-based product
development.
