Abstract: The fundamental aim of extended expansion concept is
to achieve higher work done which in turn leads to higher thermal
efficiency. This concept is compatible with the application of
turbocharger and LHR engine. The Low Heat Rejection engine was
developed by coating the piston crown, cylinder head inside with
valves and cylinder liner with partially stabilized zirconia coating of
0.5 mm thickness. Extended expansion in diesel engines is termed as
Miller cycle in which the expansion ratio is increased by reducing the
compression ratio by modifying the inlet cam for late inlet valve
closing. The specific fuel consumption reduces to an appreciable level
and the thermal efficiency of the extended expansion turbocharged
LHR engine is improved.
In this work, a thermodynamic model was formulated and
developed to simulate the LHR based extended expansion
turbocharged direct injection diesel engine. It includes a gas flow
model, a heat transfer model, and a two zone combustion model. Gas
exchange model is modified by incorporating the Miller cycle, by
delaying inlet valve closing timing which had resulted in considerable
improvement in thermal efficiency of turbocharged LHR engines. The
heat transfer model, calculates the convective and radiative heat
transfer between the gas and wall by taking into account of the
combustion chamber surface temperature swings. Using the two-zone
combustion model, the combustion parameters and the chemical
equilibrium compositions were determined. The chemical equilibrium
compositions were used to calculate the Nitric oxide formation rate by
assuming a modified Zeldovich mechanism. The accuracy of this
model is scrutinized against actual test results from the engine. The
factors which affect thermal efficiency and exhaust emissions were
deduced and their influences were discussed. In the final analysis it is
seen that there is an excellent agreement in all of these evaluations.
Abstract: In this study, it is investigated the stability boundary of
Functionally Graded (FG) panel under the heats and supersonic
airflows. Material properties are assumed to be temperature
dependent, and a simple power law distribution is taken. First-order
shear deformation theory (FSDT) of plate is applied to model the
panel, and the von-Karman strain- displacement relations are
adopted to consider the geometric nonlinearity due to large
deformation. Further, the first-order piston theory is used to model the
supersonic aerodynamic load acting on a panel and Rayleigh damping
coefficient is used to present the structural damping. In order to find a
critical value of the speed, linear flutter analysis of FG panels is
performed. Numerical results are compared with the previous works,
and present results for the temperature dependent material are
discussed in detail for stability boundary of the panel with various
volume fractions, and aerodynamic pressures.
Abstract: Waste problem is becoming a future problem all over the world. Magnesium wastes which can be used in recycling processes are produced by many industrial activities. Magnesium borates which have useful properties such as; high heat resistance, corrosion resistance, supermechanical strength, superinsulation, light weight, high coefficient of elasticity and so on. Addition, magnesium borates have great potential in the development of ceramic and detergents industry, whisker-reinforced composites, antiwear, and reducing friction additives.
In this study, using the starting materials of waste magnesium and H3BO3 the hydrothermal method was applied at a moderate temperature of 70oC with different reaction times. Several reaction times of waste magnesium to H3BO3 were selected as; 30, 60, 120, 240 minutes. After the synthesis, X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) and Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FT-IR) techniques were applied to products. As a result, the forms of Admontite [MgO(B2O3)3.7(H2O)] and Mcallisterite [Mg2(B6O7(OH)6)2.9(H2O)] were synthesized.
Abstract: Tea is a widely consumed beverage that contains many components. Caffeine belongs to this group of components called alkaloids contain nitrogen. In this study caffeine contents of three types of Turkish teas are determined by using extraction method. After condensation process, residue of caffeine and oil are obtained with evaporation. The oil which is in the residue is removed by hot water. Extraction process performed by using chloroform and the crude caffeine is obtained. From the results of experiments, caffeine contents are found in black tea, green tea and earl grey tea as 3.57±0.43%, 3.11±0.02%, 4.29±0.27%, respectively. Caffeine contents which are found in 1, 5 and 10 cups of tea are calculated. Furthermore, the daily intake of caffeine from black teas that affects human health is investigated.
Abstract: Tea has several types of essential elements. Potassium,
magnesium and phosphorus are some examples of these elements.
Tea is widely used drink in Turkey, also some people puts a lemon
wedge to tea for different taste. In this study potassium, magnesium
and phosphorus contents after the hot water brewing of black and
green tea were determined by Optical Emission Spectroscopy (ICPOES).
Furthermore, how the lemon addition to teas affects the
concentrations of the potassium, magnesium and phosphorus
amount are investigated.
From the results, potassium, magnesium and phosphorus
concentrations are found as 3003.3, 597.1, 1167.2 ppm in black tea
and 3718.0, 3830.5, 376.4 ppm in green tea, respectively. After
lemon addition potassium, magnesium and phosphorus
concentrations are changed to 14930, 830.4, 1113.5 ppm in black tea
and 15460.0, 909.5, 1152.5 ppm in green tea, respectively.
It is seen that lemon addition affects some essential elements in
black and green Turkish teas.
Abstract: The purpose of this research was to study the
motivation factors to influence the decision to choose Thai Fabric. A
multiple-stage sample was utilized to collect 400 samples from
working women who had diverse occupations all over Thailand. This
research was a quantitative analysis and questionnaire was used a tool
to collect data. Descriptive statistics used in this research included
percentage, average, and standard deviation and inferential statistics
included hypothesis testing of one way ANOVA.
The research findings revealed that demographic factors and social
factors had an influence to the positive idea of wearing Thai fabric (F
= 5.377, P value < 0.05). The respondents who had the age over 41
years old had a better positive idea of wearing Thai fabric than other
groups. Moreover, the findings revealed that age had influenced the
positive idea of wearing Thai fabric (F = 3.918, P value < 0.05). The
respondents who had the age over 41 years old also had stronger
believe that wearing Thai fabric to work and social gatherings are
socially acceptable than other groups.
Abstract: This work shows a basic philosophical difficulty in the constructivist foundations of the cognitive posracionalist psychology of Vittorio Guidano. This is a difficulty caused by the problem of the existential crisis. It will be analyzed how Guidano-s suggestions about this problem depend on felt experience. Then it will appear how Guidano-s philosophy and psychotherapy must turn towards a phenomenological approach. Finally, some references are given about Eugen Gendlin-s philosophy which could be considered as a radical way to confront these questions.
Abstract: In this study, the problem of discriminating between interictal epileptic and non- epileptic pathological EEG cases, which present episodic loss of consciousness, investigated. We verify the accuracy of the feature extraction method of autocross-correlated coefficients which extracted and studied in previous study. For this purpose we used in one hand a suitable constructed artificial supervised LVQ1 neural network and in other a cross-correlation technique. To enforce the above verification we used a statistical procedure which based on a chi- square control. The classification and the statistical results showed that the proposed feature extraction is a significant accurate method for diagnostic discrimination cases between interictal and non-interictal EEG events and specifically the classification procedure showed that the LVQ neural method is superior than the cross-correlation one.
Abstract: In this study, we examined gender differences in: (1) a
flexible remembering task, that asked for episodic memory decisions
at an item-specific versus category-based level, and (2) the retrieval
specificity of autobiographical memory during free recall.
Differences favouring women were found on both measures.
Furthermore, a significant association was observed, across gender
groups, between level of specificity in the autobiographical memory
interview and sensitivity to gist on the flexible remembering task.
These results suggest that similar cognitive processes may partially
contribute to both the ability for specific autobiographical recall and
the capacity for inhibition of gist-information on the flexible
remembering task.
Abstract: At the end of the 20th century it was actual the
development of transport corridors and the improvement of their
technical parameters. With this purpose, many countries and Georgia
among them manufacture to construct new highways, railways and
also reconstruction-modernization of the existing transport
infrastructure. It is necessary to explore the artificial structures
(bridges and tunnels) on the existing tracks as they are very old.
Conference report includes the peculiarities of reconstruction of
tunnels, because we think that this theme is important for the
modernization of the existing road infrastructure. We must remark
that the methods of determining mining pressure of tunnel
reconstructions are worked out according to the jobs of new tunnels
but it is necessary to foresee additional mining pressure which will be
formed during their reconstruction. In this report there are given the
methods of figuring the additional mining pressure while
reconstruction of tunnels, there was worked out the computer
program, it is determined that during reconstruction of tunnels the
additional mining pressure is 1/3rd of main mining pressure.
Abstract: Al-Murabahah is an Islamic financing facility used in
asset financing, the profit rate of the contract is determined by
components which are also being used in the conventional banking.
Such are cost of fund, overhead cost, risk premium cost and bank-s
profit margin. At the same time, the profit rate determined by Islamic
banking system also refers to Inter-Bank Offered Rate (LIBOR) in
London as a benchmark. This practice has risen arguments among
Muslim scholars in term of its validity of the contract; whether the
contract maintains the Shariah compliance or not. This paper aims to
explore the view of Shariah towards the above components practiced
by Islamic Banking in determining the profit rate of al-murabahah
asset financing in Malaysia. This is a comparative research which
applied the views of Muslim scholars from all major mazahibs in
Islamic jurisprudence and examined the practices by Islamic banks in
Malaysia for the above components. The study found that the shariah
accepts all the components with conditions. The cost of fund is
accepted as a portion of al-mudarabah-s profit, the overhead cost is
accepted as a cost of product, risk premium cost consist of business
risk and mitigation risk are accepted through the concept of alta-awun
and bank-s profit margin is accepted as a right of bank after
venturing in risky investment.
Abstract: Plant tissue culture is an important in vitro technology applied for agricultural and industrial production. A sterile condition of culture medium is one of the main aspects. The alternative technique for medium sterilization to replace autoclaving was carried out. For sterilization of plant tissue culture medium without autoclaving, ten commercial pure essential oils and 5 disinfectants were tested. Each essential oil or disinfectant was added to a 20-mL Murashige and Skoog (MS) medium before medium was solidified in a 120-mL container, kept for 2 weeks before evaluating sterile conditions. Treated media, supplemented with essential oils or disinfectants, were compared to control medium, autoclaved at 121 degree Celsius for 15 min. Sterile conditions of MS medium were found 100% from betel oil or clove oil (18 mL/20 mL medium), cinnamon oil (36 mL/20 mL medium), lavender oil or holy basil oil (108 mL/20 mL medium), and lemon oil or tea tree oil or turmeric oil (252 mL/20 mL medium), compared to 100% sterile condition from autoclaved medium. For disinfectants, 2% iodine + 2.4% potassium iodide, 2% merbromine solution, 10% povidone-iodine, 6% sodium hypochlorite or 0.1% thimerosal at 36 mL/20 mL medium provided 100% sterile conditions. Furthermore, growth of new shoots from chrysanthemum node explants on treated media (fresh weight, shoot length, root length and number of node) were also reported and discussed in the comparison of those on autoclaved medium.
Abstract: Environmental studies have expanded dramatically all
over the world in the past few years. Nowadays businesses interact
with society and the environment in ways that put their mark on both
sides. Efforts improving human standard living, through the control
of nature and the development of new products, have also resulted in
contamination of the environment. Consequently companies play an
important role in environmental sustainability of a region or country.
Therefore we can say that a company's sustainable development is
strictly dependent on the environment. This article presents a fuzzy
model to evaluate a company's environmental impact. Article
illustrates an example of the automotive industry in order to prove the
usefulness of using such a model.
Abstract: A lightpipe is an about 99 percent specular reflective
mirror pipe or duct that is used for the transmission of the daylight
from the outside into a building. The lightpipes are usually used in
the daylighting buildings, in the residential, industrial and
commercial sectors. This paper is about the performances of a
lightpipe installed in a laboratory (3 m x 2.6 m x 3 m) without
windows. The aim is to analyse the luminous intensity distribution
for several sky/sun conditions. The lightpipe was monitored during
the year 2006. The lightpipe is 1 m long and the diameter of the top
collector and of the internal diffuser device is 0.25 m. In the
laboratory there are seven illuminance sensors: one external is
located on the roof of the laboratory and six internal sensors are
connected to a data acquisition system. The internal sensors are
positioned under the internal diffusive device at an height of 0.85 m
from the floor to simulate a working plane. The numerical data are
obtained through a simulation software. This paper shows the
comparison between the experimental and numerical results
concerning the behavior of the lightpipe.
Abstract: Nowadays, a passenger car suspension must has high
performance criteria with light weight, low cost, and low energy
consumption. Pilot controlled proportional valve is designed and
analyzed to get small pressure change rate after blow-off, and to get a
fast response of the damper, a reverse damping mechanism is adapted.
The reverse continuous variable damper is designed as a HS-SH
damper which offers good body control with reduced transferred input
force from the tire, compared with any other type of suspension
system. The damper structure is designed, so that rebound and
compression damping forces can be tuned independently, of which the
variable valve is placed externally. The rate of pressure change with
respect to the flow rate after blow-off becomes smooth when the fixed
orifice size increases, which means that the blow-off slope is
controllable using the fixed orifice size. Damping forces are measured
with the change of the solenoid current at the different piston
velocities to confirm the maximum hysteresis of 20 N, linearity, and
variance of damping force. The damping force variance is wide and
continuous, and is controlled by the spool opening, of which scheme is
usually adapted in proportional valves. The reverse continuous
variable damper developed in this study is expected to be utilized in
the semi-active suspension systems in passenger cars after its
performance and simplicity of the design is confirmed through a real
car test.
Abstract: In the traditional buckling analysis of rectangular
plates the classical thin plate theory is generally applied, so
neglecting the plating shear deformation. It seems quite clear that this
method is not totally appropriate for the analysis of thick plates, so
that in the following the two variable refined plate theory proposed
by Shimpi (2006), that permits to take into account the transverse
shear effects, is applied for the buckling analysis of simply supported
isotropic rectangular plates, compressed in one and two orthogonal
directions.
The relevant results are compared with the classical ones and, for
rectangular plates under uniaxial compression, a new direct
expression, similar to the classical Bryan-s formula, is proposed for
the Euler buckling stress.
As the buckling analysis is a widely diffused topic for a variety of
structures, such as ship ones, some applications for plates uniformly
compressed in one and two orthogonal directions are presented and
the relevant theoretical results are compared with those ones obtained
by a FEM analysis, carried out by ANSYS, to show the feasibility of
the presented method.
Abstract: One of the most growing areas in the embedded community is multimedia devices. Multimedia devices incorporate a number of complicated functions for their operation, like motion estimation. A multitude of different implementations have been proposed to reduce motion estimation complexity, such as spiral search. We have studied the implementations of spiral search and identified areas of improvement. We propose a modified spiral search algorithm, with lower computational complexity compared to the original spiral search. We have implemented our algorithm on an embedded ARM based architecture, with custom memory hierarchy. The resulting system yields energy consumption reduction up to 64% and performance increase up to 77%, with a small penalty of 2.3 dB, in average, of video quality compared with the original spiral search algorithm.
Abstract: In the meat processing industry the substitution of
meat with non-meat ingredients is considered an important strategy
for reducing overall production costs. The main purpose of the
current research was to evaluate differences in physical-chemical
composition of cooked sausage with different legumes additions.
Peas (Pisum sativum), beans (Phaseolus vulgaris) and lentil (Lens
culinaris) were used in preparation of sausages. The legumes at
proportion of 20% of the total weight of meat were added in
sausages. The whole ingredients were mixed, filled into casing,
compressed, cooked and cooled. After storage the samples were
sensory evaluated. The sensory evaluation was carried out using the
nine point hedonic scale and line scale. Sausages without legumes
flour was used as control sample. The main conclusion of the current
research the legumes flour can be successfully used for cooked
sausages production.
Abstract: Developers need to evaluate software's performance to make software efficient. This paper suggests a performance evaluation system for embedded software. The suggested system consists of code analyzer, testing agents, data analyzer, and report viewer. The code analyzer inserts additional code dependent on target system into source code and compiles the source code. The testing agents execute performance test. The data analyzer translates raw-level results data to class-level APIs for reporting viewer. The report viewer offers users graphical report views by using the APIs. We hope that the suggested tool will be useful for embedded-related software development,because developers can easily and intuitively analyze software's performance and resource utilization.
Abstract: Ozone (O3) is considered as one of the most
phytotoxic pollutants with deleterious effects on living and non living
components of Ecosystems. It reduces growth and yield of many
crops as well as alters the physiology and crop quality. The present
study described series of experiments to investigate the effects of
ambient O3 at different locations with different ambient levels of O3
depending on proximity to pollutant source and ranged between 17
ppb/h in control experiment to 112 ppb/h in industrial area
respectively. The ambient levels in other three locations (King Saud
University botanical garden, King Fahd Rd, and Almanakh Garden)
were 61,61,77 ppb/h respectively. Tow legume crops species (vicia
vaba L ; and Pisum sativum) differ in their phenology and sensitivity
were used. The results showed a significant negative effect to ozone
on morphology, number of injured leaves, growth and productivity
with a difference in the degree of response depending on the plant
type. Visia Faba showed sensitivity to ozone to number and leaf area
and the degree of injury leaves 3, pisum sativum show higher
sensitivity for the gas for degree of injury 1,The relative growth rate
and seed weight, it turns out there is no significant difference
between the two plants in plant height and number of seeds.
