Abstract: Microservices architecture has been widely embraced for rapid, frequent, and reliable delivery of complex applications. It enables organizations to evolve their technology stack in various domains. Today, the networking domain is flooded with plethora of devices and software solutions which address different functionalities ranging from elementary operations, viz., switching, routing, firewall etc., to complex analytics and insights based intelligent services. In this paper, we attempt to bring in the microservices based approach for agile and adaptive delivery of network services for any underlying networking technology. We discuss the life cycle management of each individual microservice and a distributed control approach with emphasis for dynamic provisioning, management, and orchestration in an automated fashion which can provide seamless operations in large scale networks. We have conducted validations of the system in lab testbed comprising of Traditional/Legacy and Software Defined Wireless Local Area networks.
Abstract: Small cell deployment in 5G networks is a promising technology to enhance the capacity and coverage. However, unplanned deployment may cause high interference levels and high number of unnecessary handovers, which in turn result in an increase in the signalling overhead. To guarantee service continuity, minimize unnecessary handovers and reduce signalling overhead in heterogeneous networks, it is essential to properly model the handover decision problem. In this paper, we model the handover decision problem using Multiple Attribute Decision Making (MADM) method, specifically Technique for Order Preference by Similarity to an Ideal Solution (TOPSIS), and propose a hybrid TOPSIS method to control the handover in heterogeneous network. The proposed method adopts a hybrid weighting policy, which is a combination of entropy and standard deviation. A hybrid weighting control parameter is introduced to balance the impact of the standard deviation and entropy weighting on the network selection process and the overall performance. Our proposed method show better performance, in terms of the number of frequent handovers and the mean user throughput, compared to the existing methods.
Abstract: The ongoing call or data session must be maintained to ensure a good quality of service. This can be accomplished by performing handover procedure while the user is on the move. However, dense deployment of small cells in 5G networks is a challenging issue due to the extensive number of handovers. In this paper, a neighbour cell list method is proposed to reduce the number of target small cells and hence minimizing the number of handovers. The neighbour cell list is built by omitting cells that could cause an unnecessary handover and/or handover failure because of short time of stay of a user in these cells. A multi-attribute decision making technique, simple additive weighting, is then applied to the optimized neighbour cell list. The performance of the proposed method is analysed and compared with that of the existing methods. Results disclose that our method decreases the candidate small cell list, unnecessary handovers, handover failure and short time of stay cells compared to the competitive method.
Abstract: In this paper, a non-cooperative game method is
formulated where all players compete to transmit at higher
power. Every base station represents a player in the game.
The game is solved by obtaining the Nash equilibrium (NE)
where the game converges to optimality. The proposed method,
named Power Efficient Handover Game Theoretic (PEHO-GT)
approach, aims to control the handover in dense small cell
networks. Players optimize their payoff by adjusting the
transmission power to improve the performance in terms of
throughput, handover, power consumption and load balancing.
To select the desired transmission power for a player, the payoff
function considers the gain of increasing the transmission power.
Then, the cell selection takes place by deploying Technique for
Order Preference by Similarity to an Ideal Solution (TOPSIS).
A game theoretical method is implemented for heterogeneous
networks to validate the improvement obtained. Results reveal
that the proposed method gives a throughput improvement while
reducing the power consumption and minimizing the frequent
handover.
Abstract: The dense deployment of small cells is a promising
solution to enhance the coverage and capacity of the
heterogeneous networks (HetNets). However, the unplanned
deployment could bring new challenges to the network ranging
from interference, unnecessary handovers and handover failures.
This will cause a degradation in the quality of service (QoS)
delivered to the end user. In this paper, we propose an integrated
Grey Rational Analysis Standard Deviation based handover
method (GRA-SD) for HetNet. The proposed method integrates
the Standard Deviation (SD) technique to acquire the weight of
the handover metrics and the GRA method to select the best
handover base station. The performance of the GRA-SD method
is evaluated and compared with the traditional Multiple Attribute
Decision Making (MADM) methods including Simple Additive
Weighting (SAW) and VIKOR methods. Results reveal that the
proposed method has outperformed the other methods in terms of
minimizing the number of frequent unnecessary handovers and
handover failures, in addition to improving the energy efficiency.
Abstract: Wireless networks are getting more and more used
in every new technology or feature, especially those without
infrastructure (Ad hoc mode) which provide a low cost alternative
to the infrastructure mode wireless networks and a great flexibility
for application domains such as environmental monitoring, smart
cities, precision agriculture, and so on. These application domains
present a common characteristic which is the need of coexistence and
intercommunication between modules belonging to different types
of ad hoc networks like wireless sensor networks, mesh networks,
mobile ad hoc networks, vehicular ad hoc networks, etc. This vision
to bring to life such heterogeneous networks will make humanity
duties easier but its development path is full of challenges. One
of these challenges is the communication complexity between its
components due to the lack of common or compatible protocols
standard. This article proposes a new patented routing protocol based
on the OLSR standard in order to resolve the heterogeneous ad hoc
networks communication issue. This new protocol is applied on a
specific network architecture composed of MANET, VANET, and
FANET.
Abstract: Efficient utilization of spectrum resources is a
fundamental issue of wireless communications due to its scarcity.
To improve the efficiency of spectrum utilization, the spectrum
sharing for unlicensed bands is being regarded as one of key
technologies in the next generation wireless networks. A number
of schemes such as Listen-Before-Talk(LBT) and carrier sensor
adaptive transmission (CSAT) have been suggested from this aspect,
but more efficient sharing schemes are required for improving
spectrum utilization efficiency. This work considers an opportunistic
transmission approach and a dynamic Contention Window (CW)
adjustment scheme for LTE-U users sharing the unlicensed spectrum
with Wi-Fi, in order to enhance the overall system throughput. The
decision criteria for the dynamic adjustment of CW are based on
the collision evaluation, derived from the collision probability of the
system. The overall performance can be improved due to the adaptive
adjustment of the CW. Simulation results show that our proposed
scheme outperforms the Distributed Coordination Function (DCF)
mechanism of IEEE 802.11 MAC.
Abstract: Future mobile networks following 5th generation will
be characterized by one thousand times higher gains in capacity;
connections for at least one hundred billion devices; user experience
capable of extremely low latency and response times. To be close to
the capacity requirements and higher reliability, advanced
technologies have been studied, such as multiple connectivity, small
cell enhancement, heterogeneous networking, and advanced
interference and mobility management. This paper is focused on the
multiple connectivity in heterogeneous cellular networks. We
investigate the performance of coverage and user throughput in several
deployment scenarios. Using the stochastic geometry approach, the
SINR distributions and the coverage probabilities are derived in case
of dual connection. Also, to compare the user throughput enhancement
among the deployment scenarios, we calculate the spectral efficiency
and discuss our results.
Abstract: In order to achieve better road utilization and traffic
efficiency, there is an urgent need for a travel information delivery
mechanism to assist the drivers in making better decisions in the
emerging intelligent transportation system applications. In this paper,
we propose a relayed multicast scheme under heterogeneous networks
for this purpose. In the proposed system, travel information consisting
of summarized traffic conditions, important events, real-time traffic
videos, and local information service contents is formed into layers
and multicasted through an integration of WiMAX infrastructure and
Vehicular Ad hoc Networks (VANET). By the support of adaptive
modulation and coding in WiMAX, the radio resources can be
optimally allocated when performing multicast so as to dynamically
adjust the number of data layers received by the users. In addition to
multicast supported by WiMAX, a knowledge propagation and
information relay scheme by VANET is designed. The experimental
results validate the feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed
scheme.
Abstract: Due to the coexistence of different Radio Access
Technologies (RATs), Next Generation Wireless Networks (NGWN)
are predicted to be heterogeneous in nature. The coexistence of
different RATs requires a need for Common Radio Resource
Management (CRRM) to support the provision of Quality of Service
(QoS) and the efficient utilization of radio resources. RAT selection
algorithms are part of the CRRM algorithms. Simply, their role is to
verify if an incoming call will be suitable to fit into a heterogeneous
wireless network, and to decide which of the available RATs is most
suitable to fit the need of the incoming call and admit it.
Guaranteeing the requirements of QoS for all accepted calls and at
the same time being able to provide the most efficient utilization of
the available radio resources is the goal of RAT selection algorithm.
The normal call admission control algorithms are designed for
homogeneous wireless networks and they do not provide a solution
to fit a heterogeneous wireless network which represents the NGWN.
Therefore, there is a need to develop RAT selection algorithm for
heterogeneous wireless network. In this paper, we propose an
approach for RAT selection which includes receiving different
criteria, assessing and making decisions, then selecting the most
suitable RAT for incoming calls. A comprehensive survey of
different RAT selection algorithms for a heterogeneous wireless
network is studied.
Abstract: Next Generation Wireless Network (NGWN) is
expected to be a heterogeneous network which integrates all different
Radio Access Technologies (RATs) through a common platform. A
major challenge is how to allocate users to the most suitable RAT for
them. An optimized solution can lead to maximize the efficient use
of radio resources, achieve better performance for service providers
and provide Quality of Service (QoS) with low costs to users.
Currently, Radio Resource Management (RRM) is implemented
efficiently for the RAT that it was developed. However, it is not
suitable for a heterogeneous network. Common RRM (CRRM) was
proposed to manage radio resource utilization in the heterogeneous
network. This paper presents a user level Markov model for a three
co-located RAT networks. The load-balancing based and service
based CRRM algorithms have been studied using the presented
Markov model. A comparison for the performance of load-balancing
based and service based CRRM algorithms is studied in terms of
traffic distribution, new call blocking probability, vertical handover
(VHO) call dropping probability and throughput.
Abstract: True integration of multimedia services over wired or
wireless networks increase the productivity and effectiveness in
today-s networks. IP Multimedia Subsystems are Next Generation
Network architecture to provide the multimedia services over fixed
or mobile networks. This paper proposes an extended SIP-based QoS
Management architecture for IMS services over underlying IP access
networks. To guarantee the end-to-end QoS for IMS services in
interconnection backbone, SIP based proxy Modules are introduced
to support the QoS provisioning and to reduce the handoff disruption
time over IP access networks. In our approach these SIP Modules
implement the combination of Diffserv and MPLS QoS mechanisms
to assure the guaranteed QoS for real-time multimedia services. To
guarantee QoS over access networks, SIP Modules make QoS
resource reservations in advance to provide best QoS to IMS users
over heterogeneous networks. To obtain more reliable multimedia
services, our approach allows the use of SCTP protocol over SIP
instead of UDP due to its multi-streaming feature. This architecture
enables QoS provisioning for IMS roaming users to differentiate IMS
network from other common IP networks for transmission of realtime
multimedia services. To validate our approach simulation
models are developed on short scale basis. The results show that our
approach yields comparable performance for efficient delivery of
IMS services over heterogeneous IP access networks.
Abstract: Delivering streaming video over wireless is an
important component of many interactive multimedia applications
running on personal wireless handset devices. Such personal devices
have to be inexpensive, compact, and lightweight. But wireless
channels have a high channel bit error rate and limited bandwidth.
Delay variation of packets due to network congestion and the high bit
error rate greatly degrades the quality of video at the handheld
device. Therefore, mobile access to multimedia contents requires
video transcoding functionality at the edge of the mobile network for
interworking with heterogeneous networks and services. Therefore,
to guarantee quality of service (QoS) delivered to the mobile user, a
robust and efficient transcoding scheme should be deployed in
mobile multimedia transporting network. Hence, this paper
examines the challenges and limitations that the video transcoding
schemes in mobile multimedia transporting network face. Then
handheld resources, network conditions and content based mobile
and wireless video transcoding is proposed to provide high QoS
applications. Exceptional performance is demonstrated in the
experiment results. These experiments were designed to verify and
prove the robustness of the proposed approach. Extensive
experiments have been conducted, and the results of various video
clips with different bit rate and frame rate have been provided.

around for almost twenty years. Today Internet made it possible. And
this is not only technical evolution. The way it changed our lives
reflected in variety of applications, services and technologies used in
day-to-day life. Such benefits imposed even more requirements on
heterogeneous and unreliable IP networks.

automated multi-layer QoS management. Paper focuses on the
structure of the most crucial modules of the system that enable
autonomous and multi-layer provisioning and dynamic adaptation.
Abstract: In this document we studied more in detail the Performances of the vertical handover in the networks WLAN, WiMAX, UMTS before studying of it the Procedure of Handoff Vertical, the whole buckled by simulations putting forward the performances of the handover in the heterogeneous networks. The goal of Vertical Handover is to carry out several accesses in real-time in the heterogeneous networks. This makes it possible a user to use several networks (such as WLAN UMTS andWiMAX) in parallel, and the system to commutate automatically at another basic station, without disconnecting itself, as if there were no cut and with little loss of data as possible.
Abstract: The importance of our country-s communication
system is noticeable when a disaster occurs. The communication
system in our country includes wired and wireless telephone
networks, radio, satellite system and more increasingly internet. Even
though our communication system is most extensive and dependable,
extreme conditions can put a strain on them. Interoperability between
heterogeneous wireless networks can be used to provide efficient
communication for emergency first response. IEEE 802.21 specifies
Media Independent Handover (MIH) services to enhance the mobile
user experience by optimizing handovers between heterogeneous
access networks. This paper presents an algorithm to improve
congestion control in MIH framework. It is analytically shown that
by including time factor in network selection we can optimize
congestion in the network.

This method tries to improve the video sending over the wireless heterogeneous networks with used techniques in surface layer, link and application. The offered method is showing a considerable improvement in quality observing by user. In addition to this, other specifications such as shortage of data load that had require to resending and limited the relation period length to require time for second data sending, help to be used the offered method in the wireless devices that have a limited energy. The presented method and the achieved improvement is simulated and presented in the NS-2 software.
