Abstract: The System Identification problem looks for a
suitably parameterized model, representing a given process. The
parameters of the model are adjusted to optimize a performance
function based on error between the given process output and
identified process output. The linear system identification field is
well established with many classical approaches whereas most of
those methods cannot be applied for nonlinear systems. The problem
becomes tougher if the system is completely unknown with only the
output time series is available. It has been reported that the
capability of Artificial Neural Network to approximate all linear and
nonlinear input-output maps makes it predominantly suitable for the
identification of nonlinear systems, where only the output time series
is available. [1][2][4][5]. The work reported here is an attempt to
implement few of the well known algorithms in the context of
modeling of nonlinear systems, and to make a performance
comparison to establish the relative merits and demerits.
Abstract: This paper reports on a receding horizon filtering for
mobile robot systems with cross-correlated sensor noises and
uncertainties. Also, the effect of uncertain parameters in the state of
the tracking error model performance is considered. A distributed
fusion receding horizon filter is proposed. The distributed fusion
filtering algorithm represents the optimal linear combination of the
local filters under the minimum mean square error criterion. The
derivation of the error cross-covariances between the local receding
horizon filters is the key of this paper. Simulation results of the
tracking mobile robot-s motion demonstrate high accuracy and
computational efficiency of the distributed fusion receding horizon
filter.
Abstract: This paper develops an unscented grid-based filter
and a smoother for accurate nonlinear modeling and analysis
of time series. The filter uses unscented deterministic sampling
during both the time and measurement updating phases, to approximate
directly the distributions of the latent state variable. A
complementary grid smoother is also made to enable computing
of the likelihood. This helps us to formulate an expectation
maximisation algorithm for maximum likelihood estimation of
the state noise and the observation noise. Empirical investigations
show that the proposed unscented grid filter/smoother compares
favourably to other similar filters on nonlinear estimation tasks.
Abstract: Liver segmentation is the first significant process for
liver diagnosis of the Computed Tomography. It segments the liver
structure from other abdominal organs. Sophisticated filtering techniques
are indispensable for a proper segmentation. In this paper, we
employ a 3D anisotropic diffusion as a preprocessing step. While
removing image noise, this technique preserve the significant parts
of the image, typically edges, lines or other details that are important
for the interpretation of the image. The segmentation task is done
by using thresholding with automatic threshold values selection and
finally the false liver region is eliminated using 3D connected component.
The result shows that by employing the 3D anisotropic filtering,
better liver segmentation results could be achieved eventhough simple
segmentation technique is used.
Abstract: The present paper deals with problems related to the
possibilities to use fractal systems to solve some important scientific
and practical problems connected with filtering and separation of
aqueous phases from organic ones. For this purpose a special
separator have been designed. The reactor was filled with a porous
material with fractal dimension, which is an integral part of the set
for filtration and separation of emulsions. As a model emulsion
hexadecan mixture with water in equal quantities (1:1) was used. We
examined the hydrodynamics of the separation of the emulsion at
different rates of submission of the entrance of the reactor.
Abstract: This article describes a Web pages automatic filtering system. It is an open and dynamic system based on multi agents architecture. This system is built up by a set of agents having each a quite precise filtering task of to carry out (filtering process broken up into several elementary treatments working each one a partial solution). New criteria can be added to the system without stopping its execution or modifying its environment. We want to show applicability and adaptability of the multi-agents approach to the networks information automatic filtering. In practice, most of existing filtering systems are based on modular conception approaches which are limited to centralized applications which role is to resolve static data flow problems. Web pages filtering systems are characterized by a data flow which varies dynamically.
Abstract: As the performance of the filtering system depends
upon the accuracy of the noise detection scheme, in this paper, we
present a new scheme for impulse noise detection based on two
levels of decision. In this scheme in the first stage we coarsely
identify the corrupted pixels and in the second stage we finally
decide whether the pixel under consideration is really corrupt or not.
The efficacy of the proposed filter has been confirmed by extensive
simulations.
Abstract: We propose an enhanced collaborative filtering
method using Hofstede-s cultural dimensions, calculated for 111
countries. We employ 4 of these dimensions, which are correlated to
the costumers- buying behavior, in order to detect users- preferences
for items. In addition, several advantages of this method
demonstrated for data sparseness and cold-start users, which are
important challenges in collaborative filtering. We present
experiments using a real dataset, Book Crossing Dataset.
Experimental results shows that the proposed algorithm provide
significant advantages in terms of improving recommendation
quality.
Abstract: This paper proposes new enhancement models to the
methods of nonlinear anisotropic diffusion to greatly reduce speckle
and preserve image features in medical ultrasound images. By
incorporating local physical characteristics of the image, in this case
scatterer density, in addition to the gradient, into existing tensorbased
image diffusion methods, we were able to greatly improve the
performance of the existing filtering methods, namely edge
enhancing (EE) and coherence enhancing (CE) diffusion. The new
enhancement methods were tested using various ultrasound images,
including phantom and some clinical images, to determine the
amount of speckle reduction, edge, and coherence enhancements.
Scatterer density weighted nonlinear anisotropic diffusion
(SDWNAD) for ultrasound images consistently outperformed its
traditional tensor-based counterparts that use gradient only to weight
the diffusivity function. SDWNAD is shown to greatly reduce
speckle noise while preserving image features as edges, orientation
coherence, and scatterer density. SDWNAD superior performances
over nonlinear coherent diffusion (NCD), speckle reducing
anisotropic diffusion (SRAD), adaptive weighted median filter
(AWMF), wavelet shrinkage (WS), and wavelet shrinkage with
contrast enhancement (WSCE), make these methods ideal
preprocessing steps for automatic segmentation in ultrasound
imaging.
Abstract: In power systems, protective relays must filter their
inputs to remove undesirable quantities and retain signal quantities of
interest. This job must be performed accurate and fast. A new
method for filtering the undesirable components such as DC and
harmonic components associated with the fundamental system
signals. The method is s based on a dynamic filtering algorithm. The
filtering algorithm has many advantages over some other classical
methods. It can be used as dynamic on-line filter without the need of
parameters readjusting as in the case of classic filters. The proposed
filter is tested using different signals. Effects of number of samples
and sampling window size are discussed. Results obtained are
presented and discussed to show the algorithm capabilities.
Abstract: The mobile systems are powered by batteries.
Reducing the system power consumption is a key to increase its
autonomy. It is known that mostly the systems are dealing with time
varying signals. Thus, we aim to achieve power efficiency by smartly
adapting the system processing activity in accordance with the input
signal local characteristics. It is done by completely rethinking the
processing chain, by adopting signal driven sampling and processing.
In this context, a signal driven filtering technique, based on the level
crossing sampling is devised. It adapts the sampling frequency and
the filter order by analysing the input signal local variations. Thus, it
correlates the processing activity with the signal variations. It leads
towards a drastic computational gain of the proposed technique
compared to the classical one.
Abstract: We present a discussion of three adaptive filtering
algorithms well known for their one-step termination property, in
terms of their relationship with the minimal residual method. These
algorithms are the normalized least mean square (NLMS), Affine
Projection algorithm (APA) and the recursive least squares algorithm
(RLS). The NLMS is shown to be a result of the orthogonality
condition imposed on the instantaneous approximation of the Wiener
equation, while APA and RLS algorithm result from orthogonality
condition in multi-dimensional minimal residual formulation. Further
analysis of the minimal residual formulation for the RLS leads to
a triangular system which also possesses the one-step termination
property (in exact arithmetic)
Abstract: Sensor networks are often deployed in unattended
environments, thus leaving these networks vulnerable to false data
injection attacks in which an adversary injects forged reports into the
network through compromised nodes, with the goal of deceiving the
base station or depleting the resources of forwarding nodes. Several
research solutions have been recently proposed to detect and drop such
forged reports during the forwarding process. Each design can provide
the equivalent resilience in terms of node compromising. However,
their energy consumption characteristics differ from each other. Thus,
employing only a single filtering scheme for a network is not a
recommendable strategy in terms of energy saving. It's very important
the threshold determination for message authentication to identify. We
propose the recursive contract net protocols which less energy level of
terminal node in wireless sensor network.
Abstract: This paper addresses the development of an intelligent vision system for human-robot interaction. The two novel contributions of this paper are 1) Detection of human faces and 2) Localizing the eye. The method is based on visual attributes of human skin colors and geometrical analysis of face skeleton. This paper introduces a spatial domain filtering method named ?Fuzzily skewed filter' which incorporates Fuzzy rules for deciding the gray level of pixels in the image in their neighborhoods and takes advantages of both the median and averaging filters. The effectiveness of the method has been justified over implementing the eye tracking commands to an entertainment robot, named ''AIBO''.
Abstract: In this paper we present a noise reduction filter for video processing. It is based on the recently proposed two dimensional steering kernel, extended to three dimensions and further augmented to suit the spatial-temporal domain of video processing. Two alternative filters are proposed - the time symmetric kernel and the time asymmetric kernel. The first reduces the noise on single sequences, but to handle the problems at scene shift the asymmetric kernel is introduced. The performance of both are tested on simulated data and on a real video sequence together with the existing steering kernel. The proposed kernels improves the Rooted Mean Squared Error (RMSE) compared to the original steering kernel method on video material.
Abstract: The removal of hydrogen sulphide is required for reasons of health, odour problems, safety and corrosivity problems. The means of removing hydrogen sulphide mainly depend on its concentration and kind of medium to be purified. The paper deals with a method of hydrogen sulphide removal from the air by its catalytic oxidation to elemental sulphur with the use of Fe-EDTA complex. The possibility of obtaining fibrous filtering materials able to remove small concentrations of H2S from the air were described. The base of these materials is fibrous ion exchanger with Fe(III)- EDTA complex immobilized on their functional groups. The complex of trivalent iron converts hydrogen sulphide to elemental sulphur. Bivalent iron formed in the reaction is oxidized by the atmospheric oxygen, so complex of trivalent iron is continuously regenerated and the overall process can be accounted as pseudocatalytic. In the present paper properties of several fibrous catalysts based on ion exchangers with different chemical nature (weak acid,weak base and strong base) were described. It was shown that the main parameters affecting the process of catalytic oxidation are:concentration of hydrogen sulphide in the air, relative humidity of the purified air, the process time and the content of Fe-EDTA complex in the fibres. The data presented show that the filtering layers with anion exchange package are much more active in the catalytic processes of hydrogen sulphide removal than cation exchanger and inert materials. In the addition to the nature of the fibres relative air humidity is a critical factor determining efficiency of the material in the air purification from H2S. It was proved that the most promising carrier of the Fe-EDTA catalyst for hydrogen sulphide oxidation are Fiban A-6 and Fiban AK-22 fibres.
Abstract: In this paper, we proposed a method to reduce
quantization error. In order to reduce quantization error, low pass
filtering is applied on neighboring samples of current block in
H.264/AVC. However, it has a weak point that low pass filtering is
performed regardless of prediction direction. Since it doesn-t consider
prediction direction, it may not reduce quantization error effectively.
Proposed method considers prediction direction for low pass filtering
and uses a threshold condition for reducing flag bit. We compare our
experimental result with conventional method in H.264/AVC and we
can achieve the average bit-rate reduction of 1.534% by applying the
proposed method. Bit-rate reduction between 0.580% and 3.567% are
shown for experimental results.
Abstract: This study proposes a novel recommender system to
provide the advertisements of context-aware services. Our proposed
model is designed to apply a modified collaborative filtering (CF)
algorithm with regard to the several dimensions for the personalization
of mobile devices – location, time and the user-s needs type. In
particular, we employ a classification rule to understand user-s needs
type using a decision tree algorithm. In addition, we collect primary
data from the mobile phone users and apply them to the proposed
model to validate its effectiveness. Experimental results show that the
proposed system makes more accurate and satisfactory advertisements
than comparative systems.
Abstract: A sequential decision problem, based on the task ofidentifying the species of trees given acoustic echo data collectedfrom them, is considered with well-known stochastic classifiers,including single and mixture Gaussian models. Echoes are processedwith a preprocessing stage based on a model of mammalian cochlearfiltering, using a new discrete low-pass filter characteristic. Stoppingtime performance of the sequential decision process is evaluated andcompared. It is observed that the new low pass filter processingresults in faster sequential decisions.
Abstract: The early diagnostic decision making in industrial processes is absolutely necessary to produce high quality final products. It helps to provide early warning for a special event in a process, and finding its assignable cause can be obtained. This work presents a hybrid diagnostic schmes for batch processes. Nonlinear representation of raw process data is combined with classification tree techniques. The nonlinear kernel-based dimension reduction is executed for nonlinear classification decision boundaries for fault classes. In order to enhance diagnosis performance for batch processes, filtering of the data is performed to get rid of the irrelevant information of the process data. For the diagnosis performance of several representation, filtering, and future observation estimation methods, four diagnostic schemes are evaluated. In this work, the performance of the presented diagnosis schemes is demonstrated using batch process data.
