Abstract: Aroma forming volatiles are important components of
fermented beverages. The aim of current research is to evaluate the
volatile compounds and phenolic compounds of commercial ciders.
Volatile aroma compounds and TPC of seven commercial ciders
were determined. Extraction of aroma compounds was performed
using solid phase microextraction (DVB/Car/PDMS fibre). Analysis
of volatile aroma compounds was made using a Perkin Elmer Clarus
500 GC/MS. Total phenol content (TPC) was determined according
to the Folin-Ciocalteu spectrophotometric method and results were
expressed as gallic acid equivalents. The highest volatile compounds
were in apple ciders with pear flavor. The highest TPC and lower
content of volatile compounds were detected in French ciders.
Abstract: Groundwater resources in Arsanjan plain provide
water for agriculture, industry, and human consumption. Continued
agricultural development in this area needs to additional groundwater
resources for, particularly during of drought periods, and effects on
the quantity and quality of ground water available. The purpose of
this study is to evaluate water level changes in the aquifer of
Arsanjan plain in the Fars province in order to determine the areas of
greatest depletion and the causes of depletion. In this plain, farmers
and other users are pumping groundwater faster than its natural
replenishment rate, causing a continuous drop in groundwater tables
and depletion of this resource. In this research variation of
groundwater level, their effects and ways to help control groundwater
levels in aquifer of the Arsanjan plains were evaluated .Excessive
exploitation of groundwater in this aquifer caused the groundwater
levels fall too fast or to unacceptable levels. The average drawdown
of the groundwater level in this plain were 19.66 meters during
1996 to 2003.

Abstract: A closed-loop controlled wireless power transmission circuit block for implantable biomedical applications is described in this paper. The circuit consists of one front-end rectifier, power management sub-block including bandgap reference and low drop-out regulators (LDOs) as well as transmission power detection / feedback circuits. Simulation result shows that the front-end rectifier achieves 80% power efficiency with 750-mV single-end peak-to-peak input voltage and 1.28-V output voltage under load current of 4 mA. The power management block can supply 1.8mA average load current under 1V consuming only 12μW power, which is equivalent to 99.3% power efficiency. The wireless power transmission block described in this paper achieves a maximum power efficiency of 80%. The wireless power transmission circuit block is designed and implemented using UMC 65-nm CMOS/RF process. It occupies 1 mm × 1.2 mm silicon area.
Abstract: Experimental investigation has been carried out
towards understanding the complex fluid dynamics involved in the
interaction of vortical structures with zero pressure gradient boundary
layer. A laminar boundary layer is produced on the flat plate placed
in the water flume and the synthetic jet actuator is deployed on top of
the plate at a definite distance from the leading edge. The synthetic
jet actuator has been designed in such a way that the to and fro
motion of the diaphragm is maneuvered at will by varying the
operating parameters to produce the typical streamwise vortical
structures namely hairpin and tilted vortices. PIV measurements are
made on the streamwise plane normal to the plate to evaluate their
interaction with the near wall fluid.
Abstract: Our research aims at helping the tutor on line to
evaluate the student-s cognitive processes. The student is a learner in
French as a Second Language who studies an on-line socio-cognitive
scenario in written communication. In our method, these cognitive
processes are defined. For that, the language abilities and learning
tasks are associated to cognitive operation. Moreover, the found
cognitive processes are named with specific terms. The result was to
create an instrumental pattern to question the learner about the
cognitive processes used to build an item of written comprehension.
Our research follows the principles of the third historical generation
of studies on the cognitive activity of the text comprehension. The
strength of our instrumental pattern stands in the precision and the
logical articulation of the questions to the learner. However, the
learner-s answers can still be subjective but the precision of the
instrument restricts it.
Abstract: Application of projective geometry to the theory of two-ports and cascade circuits with a load change is considered. The equations linking the input and output of a two-port are interpreted as projective transformations which have the invariant as a cross-ratio of four points. This invariant has place for all regime parameters in all parts of a cascade circuit. This approach allows justifying the definition of a regime and its change, to calculate a circuit without explicitly finding the aparameters, to transmit accurately an analogue signal through the unstable two-port.
Abstract: In order to improve the simulation effects of space cold
black environment, this paper described a rectangular channel plate
heat sink. By using fluid mechanics theory and finite element method,
the internal fluid flow and heat transfer in heat sink was numerically
simulated to analyze the impact of channel structural on fluid flow and
heat transfer. The result showed that heat sink temperature uniformity
is well, and the impact of channel structural on the heat sink
temperature uniformity is not significant. The channel depth and
spacing are important factors which affect the fluid flow and heat
transfer in the heat sink. The two factors of heat transfer and resistance
need to be considered comprehensively to determine the optimal flow
structure parameters.
Abstract: As privacy becomes a major concern for consumers
and enterprises, many research have been focused on the privacy
protecting technology in recent years. In this paper, we present a
comprehensive approach for usage access control based on the notion
purpose. In our model, purpose information associated with a given
data element specifies the intended use of the subjects and objects in
the usage access control model. A key feature of our model is that it
allows when an access is required, the access purpose is checked
against the intended purposes for the data item. We propose an
approach to represent purpose information to support access control
based on purpose information. Our proposed solution relies on usage
access control (UAC) models as well as the components which based
on the notions of the purpose information used in subjects and
objects. Finally, comparisons with related works are analyzed.
Abstract: Optimization plays an important role in most real
world applications that support decision makers to take the right
decision regarding the strategic directions and operations of the
system they manage. Solutions for traffic management and traffic
congestion problems are considered major problems that most
decision making authorities for cities around the world are looking
for. This review paper gives a full description of the traffic problem
as part of the transportation planning process and present a view as a
framework of urban transportation system analysis where the core of
the system is a transportation network equilibrium model that is
based on optimization techniques and that can also be used for
evaluating an alternative solution or a combination of alternative
solutions for the traffic congestion. Different transportation network
equilibrium models are reviewed from the sequential approach to the
multiclass combining trip generation, trip distribution, modal split,
trip assignment and departure time model. A GIS-Based intelligent
decision support system framework for urban transportation system
analysis is suggested for implementation where the selection of
optimized alternative solutions, single or packages, will be based on
an intelligent agent rather than human being which would lead to
reduction in time, cost and the elimination of the difficulty, by
human being, for finding the best solution to the traffic congestion
problem.
Abstract: The aim of this work is to determine the supersonic
nozzle profiles used in propulsion, for the launchers or embarked
with the satellites. This design has as a role firstly, to give a
important propulsion, i.e. with uniform and parallel flow at exit,
secondly to find a short length profiles without modification of the
flow in the nozzle. The first elaborate program is used to determine
the profile of divergent by using the characteristics method for an
axisymmetric flow. The second program is conceived by using the
finite volume method to determine and test the profile found
connected to a convergent.
Abstract: A good green building design project, designers should consider not only energy consumption, but also healthy and comfortable needs of inhabitants. In recent years, the Taiwan government paid attentions on both carbon reduction and indoor air quality issues, which be presented in the legislation of Building Codes and other regulations. Taiwan located in hot and humid climates, dampness in buildings leads to significant microbial pollution and building damage. This means that the high temperature and humidity present a serious indoor air quality issue. The interactions between vapor transfers and energy fluxes are essential for the whole building Heat Air and Moisture (HAM) response. However, a simulation tool with short calculation time, property accuracy and interface is needed for practical building design processes. In this research, we consider the vapor transfer phenomenon of building materials as well as temperature and humidity and energy consumption in a building space. The simulation bases on the EMPD method, which was performed by EnergyPlus, a simulation tool developed by DOE, to simulate the indoor moisture variation in a one-zone residential unit based on the Effective Moisture Penetration Depth Method, which is more suitable for practical building design processes.
Abstract: Mental health professionals views about mental illness
is an important issue which has not received enough attention. The
negative stigma associated with mental illness can have many
negative consequences. Unfortunately, health professionals working
with the mentally ill can also exhibit stigma. It has been suggested
that causal explanations or beliefs around the causes of mental illness
may influence stigma. This study aims to gain a greater insight into
stigma through examining stigma among potential mental health
professionals. Firstly, results found that potential mental health
professionals had relatively low social distance t(205) = -3.62, p
Abstract: Characterization and evaluation of the activity of Vespa basalis DPP-IV, which expressed in Spodoptera frugiperda 21 cells. The expression of rDPP-IV was confirmed by SDS–PAGE, Western blot analyses, LC-MS/MS and measurement of its peptidase specificity. One-step purification by Ni-NTA affinity chromatography and the total amount of rDPP-IV recovered was approximately 6.4mg per liter from infected culture medium; an equivalent amount would be produced by 1x109 infected Sf21 insect cells. Through the affinity purification led to highly stable rDPP-IV enzyme was recovered and with significant peptidase activity. The rDPP-IV exhibited classical Michaelis–Menten kinetics, with kcat/Km in the range of 10-500 mM-1×S-1 for the five synthetic substrates and optimum substrate is Ala-Pro-pNA. As expected in inhibition assay, the enzymatic activity of rDPP-IV was significantly reduced by 80 or 60% in the presence of sitagliptin (a DPP-IV inhibitor) or PMSF (a serine protease inhibitor), but was not apparently affected by iodoacetamide (a cysteine protease inhibitor).
Abstract: Different forms of interaction are an integral part of
modern courses. Traditional courses held on-campus might focus on
teacher-student interaction, or student-student interaction, or both.
However when these traditional on-campus courses are to be held as
distance courses there is a risk that these well-designed interactions
will be difficult or impossible to uphold. For example, studentstudent
interaction in traditional project assignments might not work
well if the students are scattered across the world. Thus, even a welldesigned
traditional on-site course cannot without modification be
turned into a distance course. Traditional on-site courses simply have
to be redesigned to become true distance courses. This paper
describes a structured approach which facilitates the redesign of a
traditional course into a distance course. The approach is based on
that the desired forms of course flexibility are identified, and
thereafter that the course activities are redesigned to facilitate
interaction in a distance course. The approach is making use of
known patterns of pedagogic interaction and existing guidelines for
distance education design. The approach is illustrated with an
example course in the field of information systems design.
Abstract: The scientific community has invested a great deal of effort in the fields of discrete wavelet transform in the last few decades. Discrete wavelet transform (DWT) associated with the vector quantization has been proved to be a very useful tool for the compression of image. However, the DWT is very computationally intensive process requiring innovative and computationally efficient method to obtain the image compression. The concurrent transformation of the image can be an important solution to this problem. This paper proposes a model of concurrent DWT for image compression. Additionally, the formal verification of the model has also been performed. Here the Symbolic Model Verifier (SMV) has been used as the formal verification tool. The system has been modeled in SMV and some properties have been verified formally.
Abstract: The study investigates the causal link between trade
openness and economic growth for four South Asian countries for
period 1972-1985 and 1986-2007 to examine the scenario before and
after the implementation of SAARC. Panel cointegration and
FMOLS techniques are employed for short run and long run
estimates. In 1972-85 short run unidirectional causality from GDP to
openness is found whereas, in 1986-2007 there exists bi-directional
causality between GDP and openness. The long run elasticity
magnitude between GDP and openness contains negative sign in
1972-85 which shows that there exists long run negative relationship.
While in time period 1986-2007 the elasticity magnitude has positive
sign that indicates positive causation between GDP and openness. So
it can be concluded that after the implementation of SAARC overall
situation of selected countries got better. Also long run coefficient of
error term suggests that short term equilibrium adjustments are driven
by adjustment back to long run equilibrium.
Abstract: Minor problems arising from optimizations by
welding of fixed prostheses frameworks can be identified by
macroscopic and microscopic visual inspection. The purpose of this
study was to highlight the visible discontinuities present in the laser
welds of dental Ni-Cr alloys. Ni-Cr base metal alloys designated for
fixed prostheses manufacture were selected for the experiments.
Using cast plates, preliminary tests were conducted by laser welding.
Macroscopic visual inspection was done carefully to assess the
defects of the welding rib. Electron microscopy images allowed
visualization of small discontinuities, which escapes visual
inspection. Making comparison to Ni-Cr alloys taken in the
experiment and laser welded, after visual analysis, the best welds
appear for Heraenium NA alloy.
Abstract: This research attempts to study the feasibility of
augmenting an augmented reality (AR) image card on a Quick
Response (QR) code. The authors have developed a new visual tag,
which contains a QR code and an augmented AR image card. The new
visual tag has features of reading both of the revealed data of the QR
code and the instant data from the AR image card. Furthermore, a
handheld communicating device is used to read and decode the new
visual tag, and then the concealed data of the new visual tag can be
revealed and read through its visual display. In general, the QR code is
designed to store the corresponding data or, as a key, to access the
corresponding data from the server through internet. Those reveled
data from the QR code are represented in text. Normally, the AR
image card is designed to store the corresponding data in
3-Dimensional or animation/video forms. By using QR code's
property of high fault tolerant rate, the new visual tag can access those
two different types of data by using a handheld communicating device.
The new visual tag has an advantage of carrying much more data than
independent QR code or AR image card. The major findings of this
research are: 1) the most efficient area for the designed augmented AR
card augmenting on the QR code is 9% coverage area out of the total
new visual tag-s area, and 2) the best location for the augmented AR
image card augmenting on the QR code is located in the bottom-right
corner of the new visual tag.
Abstract: This paper presents a novel sinusoidal modulation
scheme that features least correlated noise and high linearity. The
modulation circuit, which is composed of a quantizer, a resonator, and
a comparator, is capable of eliminating correlated modulation noise
while doing modulation. The proposed modulation scheme combined
with the linear quadratic optimal control is applied to a single-phase
voltage source inverter and validated with the experiment results. The
experiments show that the inverter supplies stable 60Hz 110V AC
power with a total harmonic distortion of less than 1%, under the DC
input variation from 190 V to 300 V and the output power variation
from 0 to 600 W.
