Abstract: Nine Degrees of Freedom (9 DOF) systems are
already in development in many areas. In this paper, an integrated
pressure sensor is proposed that will make use of an already existing
monolithic 9 DOF inertial MEMS platform. Capacitive pressure
sensors can suffer from limited sensitivity for a given size of
membrane. This novel pressure sensor design increases the sensitivity
by over 5 times compared to a traditional array of square diaphragms
while still fitting within a 2 mm x 2 mm chip and maintaining a fixed
static capacitance. The improved design uses one large diaphragm
supported by pillars with fixed electrodes placed above the areas of
maximum deflection. The design optimization increases the
sensitivity from 0.22 fF/kPa to 1.16 fF/kPa. Temperature sensitivity
was also examined through simulation.
Abstract: This paper presents thermal annealing de-wetting
technique for the preparation of porous metal membrane for Thin
Film Encapsulation (TFE) application. Thermal annealing de-wetting
experimental results reveal that pore size formation in porous metal
membrane depend upon i.e. 1. The substrate at which metal is
deposited, 2. Melting point of metal used for porous metal cap layer
membrane formation, 3. Thickness of metal used for cap layer, 4.
Temperature used for formation of porous metal membrane. In order
to demonstrate this technique, Silver (Ag) was used as a metal for
preparation of porous metal membrane on amorphous silicon (a-Si)
and silicon oxide. The annealing of the silver thin film of various
thicknesses was performed at different temperature. Pores in porous
silver film were analyzed using Scanning Electron Microscope
(SEM). In order to check the usefulness of porous metal film for TFE
application, the porous silver film prepared on amorphous silicon (a-
Si) and silicon oxide was released using XeF2 and VHF, respectively.
Finally, guide line and structures are suggested to use this porous
membrane for robust TFE application.
Abstract: The aim of the present study is to investigate
consumers' determinants of intention toward the adoption of Smart
Grid solutions and technologies. Ajzen's Theory of Planned
Behaviour (TPB) model is applied and tested to explain the formation
of such adoption intention. An exogenous variable, taking into
account the resistance to change of individuals, was added to the
basic model. The elicitation study allowed obtaining salient modal
beliefs, which were used, with the support of literature, to design the
questionnaire. After the screening phase, data collected from the
main survey were analysed for evaluating measurement model's
reliability and validity. Consistent with the theory, the results of
structural equation analysis revealed that attitude, subjective norm,
and perceived behavioural control positively, which affected the
adoption intention. Specifically, the variable with the highest estimate
loading factor was found to be the perceived behavioural control,
and, the most important belief related to each construct was
determined (e.g., energy saving was observed to be the most
significant belief linked with attitude). Further investigation indicated
that the added exogenous variable has a negative influence on
intention; this finding confirmed partially the hypothesis, since this
influence was indirect: such relationship was mediated by attitude.
Implications and suggestions for future research are discussed.
Abstract: Chalcopyrite (CuFeS2) is the most common primary
mineral used for the commercial production of copper. The low
dissolution efficiency of chalcopyrite in sulfate media has prevented
an efficient industrial leaching of this mineral in sulfate media. Ferric
ions, bacteria, oxygen and other oxidants have been used as oxidizing
agents in the leaching of chalcopyrite in sulfate and chloride media
under atmospheric or pressure leaching conditions. Two leaching
methods were studied to evaluate chalcopyrite (CuFeS2) dissolution
in acid media. First, the conventional oxidative acid leaching method
was carried out using sulfuric acid (H2SO4) and potassium
dichromate (K2Cr2O7) as oxidant at atmospheric pressure. Second,
microwave-assisted acid leaching was performed using the
microwave accelerated reaction system (MARS) for same reaction
media. Parameters affecting the copper extraction such as leaching
time, leaching temperature, concentration of H2SO4 and
concentration of K2Cr2O7 were investigated. The results of
conventional acid leaching experiments were compared to the
microwave leaching method. It was found that the copper extraction
obtained under high temperature and high concentrations of oxidant
with microwave leaching is higher than those obtained
conventionally. 81% copper extraction was obtained by the
conventional oxidative acid leaching method in 180 min, with the
concentration of 0.3 mol/L K2Cr2O7 in 0.5M H2SO4 at 50 ºC, while
93.5% copper extraction was obtained in 60 min with microwave
leaching method under same conditions.
Abstract: The purpose of this project is to propose a quick and
environmentally friendly alternative to measure the quality of oils
used in food industry. There is evidence that repeated and
indiscriminate use of oils in food processing cause physicochemical
changes with formation of potentially toxic compounds that can
affect the health of consumers and cause organoleptic changes. In
order to assess the quality of oils, non-destructive optical techniques
such as Interferometry offer a rapid alternative to the use of reagents,
using only the interaction of light on the oil. Through this project, we
used interferograms of samples of oil placed under different heating
conditions to establish the changes in their quality. These
interferograms were obtained by means of a Mach-Zehnder
Interferometer using a beam of light from a HeNe laser of 10mW at
632.8nm. Each interferogram was captured, analyzed and measured
full width at half-maximum (FWHM) using the software from
Amcap and ImageJ. The total of FWHMs was organized in three
groups. It was observed that the average obtained from each of the
FWHMs of group A shows a behavior that is almost linear, therefore
it is probable that the exposure time is not relevant when the oil is
kept under constant temperature. Group B exhibits a slight
exponential model when temperature raises between 373 K and 393
K. Results of the t-Student show a probability of 95% (0.05) of the
existence of variation in the molecular composition of both samples.
Furthermore, we found a correlation between the Iodine Indexes
(Physicochemical Analysis) and the Interferograms (Optical
Analysis) of group C. Based on these results, this project highlights
the importance of the quality of the oils used in food industry and
shows how Interferometry can be a useful tool for this purpose.
Abstract: The purpose of this study is to determine the
relationship of anxiety level between male and female undergraduates
at a private university in Malaysia. Convenient sampling method used
in this study in which the students were selected based on the
grouping assigned by the faculty. There were 214 undergraduates
who registered the probability courses had participated in this study.
Mathematics Anxiety Rating Scale (MARS) was the instrument used
in study which used to determine students’ anxiety level towards
probability. Reliability and validity of instrument was done before the
major study was conducted. In the major study, students were given
briefing about the study conducted. Participation of this study was
voluntary. Students were given consent form to determine whether
they agree to participate in the study. Duration of two weeks was
given for students to complete the given online questionnaire. The
data collected will be analyzed using Statistical Package for the
Social Sciences (SPSS) to determine the level of anxiety. There were
three anxiety level, i.e., low, average and high. Students’ anxiety
level was determined based on their scores obtained compared with
the mean and standard deviation. If the scores obtained were below
mean and standard deviation, the anxiety level was low. If the scores
were at below and above the mean and between one standard
deviation, the anxiety level was average. If the scores were above the
mean and greater than one standard deviation, the anxiety level was
high. Results showed that both of genders were having average
anxiety level. Among low, average and high anxiety level, frequency
of males were found to be higher as compared to females. Hence, the
mean values obtained for males (M = 3.62) was higher than females
(M = 3.42). In order to be significant of anxiety level among the
gender, the p-value should be less than .05. The p-value obtained in
this study was .117. However, this value was greater than .05. Thus,
there was no significant difference of anxiety level among the gender.
In other words, there was no relationship of anxiety level with the
gender.
Abstract: The design of Reverse logistics Network has attracted
growing attention with the stringent pressures from both
environmental awareness and business sustainability. Reverse
logistical activities include return, remanufacture, disassemble and
dispose of products can be quite complex to manage. In addition,
demand can be difficult to predict, and decision making is one of the
challenges task in such network. This complexity has amplified the
need to develop an integrated architecture for product return as an
enterprise system. The main purpose of this paper is to design Multi
Agent System (MAS) architecture using the Prometheus
methodology to efficiently manage reverse logistics processes. The
proposed MAS architecture includes five types of agents: Gate
keeping Agent, Collection Agent, Sorting Agent, Processing Agent
and Disposal Agent which act respectively during the five steps of
reverse logistics Network.
Abstract: This paper introduces a boost converter with a new
active snubber cell. In this circuit, all of the semiconductor
components in the converter softly turns on and turns off with the
help of the active snubber cell. Compared to the other converters, the
proposed converter has advantages of size, number of components
and cost. The main feature of proposed converter is that the extra
voltage stresses do not occur on the main switches and main diodes.
Also, the current stress on the main switch is acceptable level.
Moreover, the proposed converter can operates under light load
conditions and wide input line voltage. In this study, the operating
principle of the proposed converter is presented and its operation is
verified with the Proteus simulation software for a 1 kW and 100 kHz
model.

Abstract: This article presents a vibration diagnostic method
designed for Permanent Magnets (PM) electrical machines–traction
motors and generators. Those machines are commonly used in traction
drives of electrical vehicles and small wind or water systems. The
described method is very innovative and unique. Specific structural
properties of machines excited by permanent magnets are used in this
method - electromotive force (EMF) generated due to vibrations. There
was analyzed number of publications, which describe vibration
diagnostic methods, and tests of electrical machines and there was no
method found to determine the technical condition of such machine
basing on their own signals. This work presents field-circuit model,
results of static tests, results of calculations and simulations.
Abstract: Biodiesel is one of the alternative fuels that promising
for substituting petro diesel as energy source which is advantage on
sustainability and ecofriendly. Due to the raw material that tend to
decompose during storage, biodiesel also have the same characteristic
that tend to decompose and formed higher acid value which is the
result of oxidation to double bond on a chain of ester. Decomposition of biodiesel due to oxidation reaction could
prevent by introduce a small amount of antioxidant. The origin of raw
materials and the process for producing biodiesel will determine the
effectiveness of antioxidant. The quality degradation on biodiesel
could evaluate by measuring iodine value and acid number of
biodiesel. Biodiesel made from high fatty acid Jatropha curcas oil by using
esterification and transesterification process will stand on the quality
by introduce 90 ppm pyrogallol powder on the biodiesel, which could
increase Induction period time from 2 hours to more than 6 hours in
rancimat test evaluation.
Abstract: Currently, green rating systems are mainly utilized for
correctly sizing mechanical and electrical systems, which have short
lifetime expectancies. In these systems, passive solar and bio-climatic
architecture, which have long lifetime expectancies, are neglected.
Urban rating systems consider buildings and services in addition to
neighborhoods and public transportation as integral parts of the built
environment. The main goal of this study was to develop a more
consistent point allocation system for urban building standards by
using six different lifetime shearing layers: Site, Structure, Skin,
Services, Space, and Stuff, each reflecting distinct environmental
damages. This shearing-layer concept was applied to internationally
well-known rating systems: Leadership in Energy and Environmental
Design (LEED) for Neighborhood Development, BRE
Environmental Assessment Method (BREEAM) for Communities
and Comprehensive Assessment System for Building Environmental
Efficiency (CASBEE) for Urban Development. The results showed
that LEED for Neighborhood Development and BREEAM for
Communities focused on long-lifetime-expectancy building designs,
whereas CASBEE for Urban Development gave equal importance to
the Building and Service Layers. Moreover, although this rating
system was applied using a building-scale assessment, “Urban Area +
Buildings” focuses on a short-lifetime-expectancy system design,
neglecting to improve the architectural design by considering bioclimatic
and passive solar aspects.
Abstract: This paper presents the local mesh co-occurrence
patterns (LMCoP) using HSV color space for image retrieval system.
HSV color space is used in this method to utilize color, intensity and
brightness of images. Local mesh patterns are applied to define the
local information of image and gray level co-occurrence is used to
obtain the co-occurrence of LMeP pixels. Local mesh co-occurrence
pattern extracts the local directional information from local mesh
pattern and converts it into a well-mannered feature vector using gray
level co-occurrence matrix. The proposed method is tested on three
different databases called MIT VisTex, Corel, and STex. Also, this
algorithm is compared with existing methods, and results in terms of
precision and recall are shown in this paper.
Abstract: In this paper, we provided a literature survey on the
artificial stock problem (ASM). The paper began by exploring the
complexity of the stock market and the needs for ASM. ASM
aims to investigate the link between individual behaviors (micro
level) and financial market dynamics (macro level). The variety of
patterns at the macro level is a function of the AFM complexity. The
financial market system is a complex system where the relationship
between the micro and macro level cannot be captured analytically.
Computational approaches, such as simulation, are expected to
comprehend this connection. Agent-based simulation is a simulation
technique commonly used to build AFMs. The paper proceeds by
discussing the components of the ASM. We consider the roles
of behavioral finance (BF) alongside the traditionally risk-averse
assumption in the construction of agent’s attributes. Also, the
influence of social networks in the developing of agents interactions is
addressed. Network topologies such as a small world, distance-based,
and scale-free networks may be utilized to outline economic
collaborations. In addition, the primary methods for developing
agents learning and adaptive abilities have been summarized.
These incorporated approach such as Genetic Algorithm, Genetic
Programming, Artificial neural network and Reinforcement Learning.
In addition, the most common statistical properties (the stylized facts)
of stock that are used for calibration and validation of ASM are
discussed. Besides, we have reviewed the major related previous
studies and categorize the utilized approaches as a part of these
studies. Finally, research directions and potential research questions
are argued. The research directions of ASM may focus on the macro
level by analyzing the market dynamic or on the micro level by
investigating the wealth distributions of the agents.
Abstract: Bloom’s Taxonomy has been changed during the
years. The idea of this writing is about the revision that has happened
in both facts and terms. It also contains case studies of using
cognitive Bloom’s taxonomy in teaching geometric solids to the
secondary school students, affective objectives in a creative
workshop for adults and psychomotor objectives in fixing a
malfunctioned refrigerator lamp. There is also pointed to the
important role of classification objectives in adult education as a way
to prevent memory loss.
Abstract: Nowadays, several research studies point up that an
active lifestyle is essential for physical and mental health benefits.
Mobile phones have greatly influenced people’s habits and attitudes
also in the way they exercise. Our research work is mainly focused on
investigating how to exploit mobile technologies to favour people’s
exertion experience. To this end, we developed an exertion framework
users can exploit through a real world mobile application, called
EverywhereSport Run (EWRun), designed to act as a virtual personal
trainer to support runners during their trainings. In this work, inspired
by both previous findings in the field of interaction design for people
with visual impairments, feedback gathered from real users of our
framework, and positive results obtained from two experimentations,
we present some new interaction facilities we designed to enhance
the interaction experience during a training. The positive obtained
results helped us to derive some interaction design recommendations
we believe will be a valid support for designers of future mobile
systems conceived to be used in circumstances where there are limited
possibilities of interaction.
Abstract: The development of electric vehicle batteries have
resulted in very high energy density lithium-ion batteries. However,
this progress is accompanied by the risk of thermal runaway, which
can result in serious accidents. Heat pipes are heat exchangers that
are suitable to be applied in electric vehicle battery thermal
management for their lightweight, compact size and do not require
external power supply. This paper aims to examine experimentally a
Flat Plate Loop Heat Pipe (FPLHP) performance as a heat exchanger
in thermal management system of lithium-ion battery for electric
vehicle application. The heat generation of the battery was simulated
using a cartridge heater. Stainless steel screen mesh was used as the
capillary wick. Distilled water, alcohol and acetone were used as
working fluids with a filling ratio of 60%. It was found that acetone
gives the best performance that produces thermal resistance of 0.22
W/°C with 50°C evaporator temperature at heat flux load of 1.61
W/cm2.
Abstract: Currently there are many use of threaded reinforcing
bars in construction fields because those do not need additional screw
processing when connecting reinforcing bar by threaded coupler. In
this study, reinforced concrete bridge piers using threaded rebar
coupler system at the plastic hinge area were tested to evaluate seismic
performance. The test results showed that threads of the threaded rebar
coupler system could be loosened while under tension-compression
cyclic loading because tolerance and rib face angle of a threaded rebar
coupler system are greater than that of a conventional ribbed rebar
coupler system. As a result, cracks were concentrated just outside of
the mechanical coupler and stiffness of reinforced concrete bridge pier
decreased. Therefore, it is recommended that connection ratio of
mechanical couplers in one section shall be below 50% in order that
cracks are not concentrated just outside of the mechanical coupler.
Also, reduced stiffness of the specimen should be considered when
using the threaded rebar coupler system.
Abstract: Mobile Adhoc Networks (MANETs) are
infrastructure-less, dynamic network of collections of wireless mobile
nodes communicating with each other without any centralized
authority. A MANET is a mobile device of interconnections through
wireless links, forming a dynamic topology. Routing protocols have a
big role in data transmission across a network. Routing protocols,
two major classifications are unipath and multipath. This study
evaluates performance of an on-demand multipath routing protocol
named Adhoc On-demand Multipath Distance Vector routing
(AOMDV). This study proposes Energy Aware AOMDV (EAAOMDV)
an extension of AOMDV which decreases energy
consumed on a route.
Abstract: Voting algorithms are extensively used to make
decisions in fault tolerant systems where each redundant module
gives inconsistent outputs. Popular voting algorithms include
majority voting, weighted voting, and inexact majority voters. Each
of these techniques suffers from scenarios where agreements do not
exist for the given voter inputs. This has been successfully overcome
in literature using fuzzy theory. Our previous work concentrated on a
neuro-fuzzy algorithm where training using the neuro system
substantially improved the prediction result of the voting system.
Weight training of Neural Network is sub-optimal. This study
proposes to optimize the weights of the Neural Network using
Artificial Bee Colony algorithm. Experimental results show the
proposed system improves the decision making of the voting
algorithms.
