Abstract: The vehicle fleet of public transportation companies is often equipped with intelligent on-board passenger information systems. A frequently used but time and labor-intensive way for keeping the on-board controllers up-to-date is the manual update using different memory cards (e.g. flash cards) or portable computers. This paper describes a compression algorithm that enables data transmission using low bandwidth wireless radio networks (e.g. GPRS) by minimizing the amount of data traffic. In typical cases it reaches a compression rate of an order of magnitude better than that of the general purpose compressors. Compressed data can be easily expanded by the low-performance controllers, too.
Abstract: One of the most challenges for hard surface cleaning product is to get rid of soap scum, a filmy sticky layer in the bathroom. The deposits of soap scum can be removed by using a proper surfactant solution with chelating agent. Unfortunately, the conventional chelating agent, ethylenediamine tetraacetic acid (EDTA), has low biodegradability, which can be tolerance in water resources and harmful to aquatic animal and microorganism. In this study, two biodegradable chelating agents, ethylenediamine disuccinic acid (EDDS) and glutamic acid diacetic acid (GLDA) were introduced as a replacement of EDTA. The result shows that using GLDA with amphoteric surfactant gave the highest equilibrium solubility of soap scum.
Abstract: In this paper performance of Puma 560
manipulator is being compared for hybrid gradient descent
and least square method learning based ANFIS controller with
hybrid Genetic Algorithm and Generalized Pattern Search
tuned radial basis function based Neuro-Fuzzy controller.
ANFIS which is based on Takagi Sugeno type Fuzzy
controller needs prior knowledge of rule base while in radial
basis function based Neuro-Fuzzy rule base knowledge is not
required. Hybrid Genetic Algorithm with generalized Pattern
Search is used for tuning weights of radial basis function
based Neuro- fuzzy controller. All the controllers are checked
for butterfly trajectory tracking and results in the form of
Cartesian and joint space errors are being compared. ANFIS
based controller is showing better performance compared to
Radial Basis Function based Neuro-Fuzzy Controller but rule
base independency of RBF based Neuro-Fuzzy gives it an
edge over ANFIS
Abstract: Service trade is an important force of influencing economic development. A review on the related literatures is done firstly. Then through the construction of a Diamond Model, the main factors which influence the competitiveness of Chinese service trade are determined. With three competitiveness indexes served as the reference series respectively, the influencing factors served as the comparable series, three grey incidence models are then built up to conduct an empirical analysis on the main factors influencing the competitiveness of service trade after China entering WTO. The result indicates that urbanization level, open degree of service industry and foreign direct investment have larger impacts on Chinese service trade competitiveness, followed in turn by GDP in service industry and human capital, while commodity trade has the minimum impact. Further discussion provides train of thought for the upgrade of Chinese service trade competitiveness.
Abstract: The resource-based view of the firm regards
knowledge as one of the most important organizational assets and a
key strategic resource that contributes unique value to organizations.
The acquisition, absorption and internalization of external
knowledge are central to an organization-s innovative capabilities.
This ability to evaluate, acquire and integrate new knowledge from
its environment is referred to as a firm-s absorptive capacity (AC).
This research in progress paper explores the link between interorganizational
Social Networks (SNs) and a firm-s Absorptive
Capacity (AC). Based on an in-depth literature survey of both
concepts, four propositions are proposed that explain the link
between AC and SNs. These propositions suggest that SNs are key
to a firm-s AC. A qualitative research method is proposed to test the
set of propositions in the next stage of this research.
Abstract: Home Automation is a field that, among other
subjects, is concerned with the comfort, security and energy
requirements of private homes. The configuration of automatic
functions in this type of houses is not always simple to its inhabitants
requiring the initial setup and regular adjustments. In this work, the
ubiquitous computing system vision is used, where the users- action
patterns are captured, recorded and used to create the contextawareness
that allows the self-configuration of the home automation
system. The system will try to free the users from setup adjustments
as the home tries to adapt to its inhabitants- real habits. In this paper
it is described a completely automated process to determine the light
state and act on them, taking in account the users- daily habits.
Artificial Neural Network (ANN) is used as a pattern recognition
method, classifying for each moment the light state. The work
presented uses data from a real house where a family is actually
living.
Abstract: Given a large sparse signal, great wishes are to
reconstruct the signal precisely and accurately from lease number of
measurements as possible as it could. Although this seems possible
by theory, the difficulty is in built an algorithm to perform the
accuracy and efficiency of reconstructing. This paper proposes a new
proved method to reconstruct sparse signal depend on using new
method called Least Support Matching Pursuit (LS-OMP) merge it
with the theory of Partial Knowing Support (PSK) given new method
called Partially Knowing of Least Support Orthogonal Matching
Pursuit (PKLS-OMP).
The new methods depend on the greedy algorithm to compute the
support which depends on the number of iterations. So to make it
faster, the PKLS-OMP adds the idea of partial knowing support of its
algorithm. It shows the efficiency, simplicity, and accuracy to get
back the original signal if the sampling matrix satisfies the Restricted
Isometry Property (RIP).
Simulation results also show that it outperforms many algorithms
especially for compressible signals.
Abstract: Beta-spline is built on G2 continuity which guarantees
smoothness of generated curves and surfaces using it. This curve is
preferred to be used in object design rather than reconstruction. This
study however, employs the Beta-spline in reconstructing a 3-
dimensional G2 image of the Stanford Rabbit. The original data
consists of multi-slice binary images of the rabbit. The result is then
compared with related works using other techniques.
Abstract: This paper presents a single correlator RAKE receiver for direct sequence code division multiple access (DS-CDMA) systems. In conventional RAKE receivers, multiple correlators are used to despread the multipath signals and then to align and combine those signals in a later stage before making a bit decision. The simplified receiver structure presented here uses a single correlator and single code sequence generator to recover the multipaths. Modified Walsh- Hadamard codes are used here for data spreading that provides better uncorrelation properties for the multipath signals. The main advantage of this receiver structure is that it requires only a single correlator and a code generator in contrary to the conventional RAKE receiver concept with multiple correlators. It is shown in results that the proposed receiver achieves better bit error rates in comparison with the conventional one for more than one multipaths.
Abstract: The increasing development of wireless networks and
the widespread popularity of handheld devices such as Personal
Digital Assistants (PDAs), mobile phones and wireless tablets
represents an incredible opportunity to enable mobile devices as a
universal payment method, involving daily financial transactions.
Unfortunately, some issues hampering the widespread acceptance of
mobile payment such as accountability properties, privacy protection,
limitation of wireless network and mobile device. Recently, many
public-key cryptography based mobile payment protocol have been
proposed. However, limited capabilities of mobile devices and
wireless networks make these protocols are unsuitable for mobile
network. Moreover, these protocols were designed to preserve
traditional flow of payment data, which is vulnerable to attack and
increase the user-s risk. In this paper, we propose a private mobile
payment protocol which based on client centric model and by
employing symmetric key operations. The proposed mobile payment
protocol not only minimizes the computational operations and
communication passes between the engaging parties, but also
achieves a completely privacy protection for the payer. The future
work will concentrate on improving the verification solution to
support mobile user authentication and authorization for mobile
payment transactions.
Abstract: Knowledge is a key asset for any organisation to
sustain competitive advantages, but it is difficult to identify and
represent knowledge which is needed to perform activities in
business processes. The effective knowledge management and
support for relevant business activities definitely gives a huge impact
to the performance of the organisation as a whole. This is because
that knowledge have the functions of directing, coordinating and
controlling actions within business processes. The study has
introduced organisational morphology, a norm-based approach by
applying semiotic theories which emphasise on the representation of
knowledge in norms. This approach is concerned with the
identification of activities into three categories: substantive,
communication and control activities. All activities are directed by
norms; hence three types of norms exist; each is associated to a
category of activities. The paper describes the approach briefly and
illustrates the application of this approach through a case study of
academic activities in higher education institutions. The result of the
study shows that the approach provides an effective way to profile
business knowledge and the profile enables the understanding and
specification of business requirements of an organisation.
Abstract: The article deals with experimental and numerical
investigation of axi-symmetric subsonic air to air ejector with
diffuser adapted for boundary layer suction. The diffuser, which is
placed behind the mixing chamber of the ejector, has high divergence
angle and therefore low efficiency. To increase the efficiency, the
diffuser is equipped with slot enabling boundary layer suction. The
effect of boundary layer suction on flow in ejector, static pressure
distribution on the mixing chamber wall and characteristic were
measured and studied numerically. Both diffuser and ejector
efficiency were evaluated. The diffuser efficiency was increased,
however, the efficiency of ejector itself remained low.
Abstract: This research work proposed a study of fruit bruise detection by means of a biospeckle method, selecting the papaya fruit (Carica papaya) as testing body. Papaya is recognized as a fruit of outstanding nutritional qualities, showing high vitamin A content, calcium, carbohydrates, exhibiting high popularity all over the world, considering consumption and acceptability. The commercialization of papaya faces special problems which are associated to bruise generation during harvesting, packing and transportation. Papaya is classified as climacteric fruit, permitting to be harvested before the maturation is completed. However, by one side bruise generation is partially controlled once the fruit flesh exhibits high mechanical firmness. By the other side, mechanical loads can set a future bruise at that maturation stage, when it can not be detected yet by conventional methods. Mechanical damages of fruit skin leave an entrance door to microorganisms and pathogens, which will cause severe losses of quality attributes. Traditional techniques of fruit quality inspection include total soluble solids determination, mechanical firmness tests, visual inspections, which would hardly meet required conditions for a fully automated process. However, the pertinent literature reveals a new method named biospeckle which is based on the laser reflectance and interference phenomenon. The laser biospeckle or dynamic speckle is quantified by means of the Moment of Inertia, named after its mechanical counterpart due to similarity between the defining formulae. Biospeckle techniques are able to quantify biological activities of living tissues, which has been applied to seed viability analysis, vegetable senescence and similar topics. Since the biospeckle techniques can monitor tissue physiology, it could also detect changes in the fruit caused by mechanical damages. The proposed technique holds non invasive character, being able to generate numerical results consistent with an adequate automation. The experimental tests associated to this research work included the selection of papaya fruit at different maturation stages which were submitted to artificial mechanical bruising tests. Damages were visually compared with the frequency maps yielded by the biospeckle technique. Results were considered in close agreement.

This study used two test methods such asInternet Control Message Protocol (ICMP)ping and ApacheBenchmark (AB) methodsto evaluate the performance.Performance metrics for this study include aspects ofaverageaccessin one second, time takenfor singleaccess, thedata transfer speed and the costof additional requirements.Reverse Proxy with Caching featureis the most efficientmechanism because of it simpler configurationandthe best performerfrom the test conducted.
Abstract: In this paper, we propose improved versions of DVHop
algorithm as QDV-Hop algorithm and UDV-Hop algorithm for
better localization without the need for additional range measurement
hardware. The proposed algorithm focuses on third step of DV-Hop,
first error terms from estimated distances between unknown node and
anchor nodes is separated and then minimized. In the QDV-Hop
algorithm, quadratic programming is used to minimize the error to
obtain better localization. However, quadratic programming requires
a special optimization tool box that increases computational
complexity. On the other hand, UDV-Hop algorithm achieves
localization accuracy similar to that of QDV-Hop by solving
unconstrained optimization problem that results in solving a system
of linear equations without much increase in computational
complexity. Simulation results show that the performance of our
proposed schemes (QDV-Hop and UDV-Hop) is superior to DV-Hop
and DV-Hop based algorithms in all considered scenarios.
Abstract: This paper attempts to highlight the significant role of
knowledge management practices (KMP) and competencies in
improving the performance and efficiency of public sector
organizations. It appears that public sector organizations in
developing countries have not received much attention in the
research literature of knowledge management and competencies.
Therefore, this paper seeks to explore the role of KMP and
competencies in achieving superior performance among public sector
organizations in Malaysia in the broader perspective. Survey
questionnaires were distributed to all Administrative and Diplomatic
Officers (ADS) from 28 ministries located in Putrajaya, Malaysia.
This paper also examines preliminary empirical results on the
relationship between support for knowledge management practices,
competencies, and orientation in Malaysia-s public organizations.
This paper supports the notion that the practices of knowledge
management at the organizational level are a prerequisite for
successful organizational performance. In conclusion, the results not
only have the potential to contribute theoretically to both
management strategy and knowledge management field literature but
also to the area of organizational performance.
Abstract: This paper is concerned with the production of an Arabic word semantic similarity benchmark dataset. It is the first of its kind for Arabic which was particularly developed to assess the accuracy of word semantic similarity measurements. Semantic similarity is an essential component to numerous applications in fields such as natural language processing, artificial intelligence, linguistics, and psychology. Most of the reported work has been done for English. To the best of our knowledge, there is no word similarity measure developed specifically for Arabic. In this paper, an Arabic benchmark dataset of 70 word pairs is presented. New methods and best possible available techniques have been used in this study to produce the Arabic dataset. This includes selecting and creating materials, collecting human ratings from a representative sample of participants, and calculating the overall ratings. This dataset will make a substantial contribution to future work in the field of Arabic WSS and hopefully it will be considered as a reference basis from which to evaluate and compare different methodologies in the field.
Abstract: The performance of sensor-less controlled induction
motor drive depends on the accuracy of the estimated speed.
Conventional estimation techniques being mathematically complex
require more execution time resulting in poor dynamic response. The
nonlinear mapping capability and powerful learning algorithms of
neural network provides a promising alternative for on-line speed
estimation. The on-line speed estimator requires the NN model to be
accurate, simpler in design, structurally compact and computationally
less complex to ensure faster execution and effective control in real
time implementation. This in turn to a large extent depends on the
type of Neural Architecture. This paper investigates three types of
neural architectures for on-line speed estimation and their
performance is compared in terms of accuracy, structural
compactness, computational complexity and execution time. The
suitable neural architecture for on-line speed estimation is identified
and the promising results obtained are presented.
Abstract: This study was aimed to determine seasonal variations
of leaf nutrient concentrations to define nutrient needs related to
growing period and to compare irrigation programs in terms of
nutrient uptake. In this study,'Starkrimson Delicious' variety grafted
onto seedling rootstock was used during 2009-2010 growing seasons.
The study was conducted at E─ƒirdir Fruit Growing Research Station.
Leaf samples were taken in five different sample seasons (May, June,
July, August and September). Four different pan coefficients (0.50,
0.75, 1.0, 1.25) were applied during drip irrigation treatments in 7
days irrigation interval. Leaf K, Mg, Ca, P, Fe, Zn, Mn and Cu
concentrations were determined.
The results showed that among the seasonal changes, the highest
concentrations of K, Mg, P and Mn in leaves were recorded in May,
followed by a decrease in the other months, while in contrast Ca and
Fe showed the lowest concentration in May.
Results of the study demonstrate that among irrigation programs K
and Cu concentration in plants was significantly influenced. Cu
concentrations decreased with seasonal variations and different
irrigation programs. Thus, nutrient needs of 'Starkrimson Delicious'apple trees at different growth stages should be taken into
consideration before making effective fertilization program.
Abstract: The next generation wireless systems, especially the
cognitive radio networks aim at utilizing network resources more
efficiently. They share a wide range of available spectrum in an
opportunistic manner. In this paper, we propose a quality
management model for short-term sub-lease of unutilized spectrum
bands to different service providers. We built our model on
competitive secondary market architecture. To establish the
necessary conditions for convergent behavior, we utilize techniques
from game theory. Our proposed model is based on potential game
approach that is suitable for systems with dynamic decision making.
The Nash equilibrium point tells the spectrum holders the ideal price
values where profit is maximized at the highest level of customer
satisfaction. Our numerical results show that the price decisions of
the network providers depend on the price and QoS of their own
bands as well as the prices and QoS levels of their opponents- bands.
