Abstract: The Linear discriminant analysis (LDA) can be
generalized into a nonlinear form - kernel LDA (KLDA) expediently
by using the kernel functions. But KLDA is often referred to a general
eigenvalue problem in singular case. To avoid this complication, this
paper proposes an iterative algorithm for the two-class KLDA. The
proposed KLDA is used as a nonlinear discriminant classifier, and the
experiments show that it has a comparable performance with SVM.
Abstract: The successful use of CDMA technology is based on
the construction of large families of encoding sequences with good
correlation properties. This paper discusses PN sequence generation
based on Residue Arithmetic with an effort to improve the performance
of existing interference-limited CDMA technology for mobile
cellular systems. All spreading codes with residual number system
proposed earlier did not consider external interferences, multipath
propagation, Doppler effect etc. In literature the use of residual
arithmetic in DS-CDMA was restricted to encoding of already spread
sequence; where spreading of sequence is done by some existing
techniques. The novelty of this paper is the use of residual number
system in generation of the PN sequences which is used to spread
the message signal. The significance of cross-correlation factor in
alleviating multi-access interference is also discussed. The RNS based
PN sequence has superior performance than most of the existing
codes that are widely used in DS-CDMA applications. Simulation
results suggest that the performance of the proposed system is
superior to many existing systems.

Transferring users with lurking behavior to be contributors can assist virtual communities to obtain competitive advantages. Based on the ecological cognition framework, this study proposes a model to examine the antecedents of lurking behavior in information-seeking oriented virtual communities. This study argues desire for emotional support, desire for information support, desire for performance-approach, desire for performance -avoidance, desire for mastery-approach, desire for mastery-avoidance, desire for ability trust, desire for benevolence trust, and desire for integrity trust effect on lurking behavior. This study offers an approach to understanding the determinants of lurking behavior in online contexts.
Abstract: Histogram plays an important statistical role in digital
image processing. However, the existing quantum image models are
deficient to do this kind of image statistical processing because
different gray scales are not distinguishable. In this paper, a novel
quantum image representation model is proposed firstly in which the
pixels with different gray scales can be distinguished and operated
simultaneously. Based on the new model, a fast quantum algorithm of
constructing histogram for quantum image is designed. Performance
comparison reveals that the new quantum algorithm could achieve an
approximately quadratic speedup than the classical counterpart. The
proposed quantum model and algorithm have significant meanings for
the future researches of quantum image processing.
Abstract: This paper proposes view-point insensitive human
pose recognition system using neural network. Recognition system
consists of silhouette image capturing module, data driven database,
and neural network. The advantages of our system are first, it is
possible to capture multiple view-point silhouette images of 3D human
model automatically. This automatic capture module is helpful to
reduce time consuming task of database construction. Second, we
develop huge feature database to offer view-point insensitivity at pose
recognition. Third, we use neural network to recognize human pose
from multiple-view because every pose from each model have similar
feature patterns, even though each model has different appearance and
view-point. To construct database, we need to create 3D human model
using 3D manipulate tools. Contour shape is used to convert silhouette
image to feature vector of 12 degree. This extraction task is processed
semi-automatically, which benefits in that capturing images and
converting to silhouette images from the real capturing environment is
needless. We demonstrate the effectiveness of our approach with
experiments on virtual environment.
Abstract: The present study conducted experimental investigation on combustion and emission characteristics of compression ignition engine using diesel as pilot fuel and methane, hydrogen and methane/hydrogen mixture as gaseous fuels at 1800 rev min-1. The effect of gaseous fuel on peak cylinder pressure and heat release is modest at low to medium loads. At high load, the high combustion temperature and high quantity of pilot fuel contribute to better combustion efficiency for all kinds of gaseous fuels and increases the peak cylinder pressure. Enrichment of hydrogen in methane gradually increases the peak cylinder pressure. The brake thermal efficiency increases with higher hydrogen fraction at lower loads. Hydrogen addition in methane contributed to a proportional reduction of CO/CO2/HC emission without penalty of NOx. For particulate emission, methane and hydrogen, could both suppress the particle emission. 30% hydrogen fraction in methane is observed to be best in reducing the particulate emission.
Abstract: We present a white LED-based optical wireless
communication systems for indoor ubiquitous sensor networks. Each
sensor node could access to the server through the PLC (Power Line
Communication)-Ethernet interface. The proposed system offers a
full-duplex wireless link by using different wavelengths to reduce the
inter-symbol interference between uplink and downlink. Through the
1-to-n optical wireless sensor network and PLC modem, the mobile
terminals send a temperature data to server. The data transmission
speed and distance are 115.2kbps and about 60cm, respectively.
Abstract: Biochemical Oxygen Demand (BOD) is a measure of
the oxygen used in bacteria mediated oxidation of organic substances
in water and wastewater. Theoretically an infinite time is required for
complete biochemical oxidation of organic matter, but the
measurement is made over 5-days at 20 0C or 3-days at 27 0C test
period with or without dilution. Researchers have worked to further
reduce the time of measurement.
The objective of this paper is to review advancement made in
BOD measurement primarily to minimize the time and negate the
measurement difficulties. Survey of literature review in four such
techniques namely BOD-BARTTM, Biosensors, Ferricyanidemediated
approach, luminous bacterial immobilized chip method.
Basic principle, method of determination, data validation and their
advantage and disadvantages have been incorporated of each of the
methods.
In the BOD-BARTTM method the time lag is calculated for the
system to change from oxidative to reductive state. BIOSENSORS
are the biological sensing element with a transducer which produces
a signal proportional to the analyte concentration. Microbial species
has its metabolic deficiencies. Co-immobilization of bacteria using
sol-gel biosensor increases the range of substrate. In ferricyanidemediated
approach, ferricyanide has been used as e-acceptor instead
of oxygen. In Luminous bacterial cells-immobilized chip method,
bacterial bioluminescence which is caused by lux genes was
observed. Physiological responses is measured and correlated to
BOD due to reduction or emission.
There is a scope to further probe into the rapid estimation of BOD.
Abstract: We proposes a way of removing noises and reducing the number of colors contained in a JPEG image. Main purpose of this project is to convert color images to monochrome images for the color blinds. We treat the crispy color images like the Tokyo subway map. Each color in the image has an important information. But for the color blinds, similar colors cannot be distinguished. If we can convert those colors to different gray values, they can distinguish them.
Abstract: In this paper, a new reverse converter for the moduli set {2n, 2n–1, 2n–1–1} is presented. We improved a previously introduced conversion algorithm for deriving an efficient hardware design for reverse converter. Hardware architecture of the proposed converter is based on carry-save adders and regular binary adders, without the requirement for modular adders. The presented design is faster than the latest introduced reverse converter for moduli set {2n, 2n–1, 2n–1–1}. Also, it has better performance than the reverse converters for the recently introduced moduli set {2n+1–1, 2n, 2n–1}
Abstract: Web 2.0 (social networking, blogging and online
forums) can serve as a data source for social science research because
it contains vast amount of information from many different users.
The volume of that information has been growing at a very high rate
and becoming a network of heterogeneous data; this makes things
difficult to find and is therefore not almost useful. We have proposed
a novel theoretical model for gathering and processing data from
Web 2.0, which would reflect semantic content of web pages in
better way. This article deals with the analysis part of the model and
its usage for content analysis of blogs. The introductory part of the
article describes methodology for the gathering and processing data
from blogs. The next part of the article is focused on the evaluation
and content analysis of blogs, which write about specific trend.
Abstract: In this paper, Differential Evolution (DE) algorithm, a new promising evolutionary algorithm, is proposed to train Radial Basis Function (RBF) network related to automatic configuration of network architecture. Classification tasks on data sets: Iris, Wine, New-thyroid, and Glass are conducted to measure the performance of neural networks. Compared with a standard RBF training algorithm in Matlab neural network toolbox, DE achieves more rational architecture for RBF networks. The resulting networks hence obtain strong generalization abilities.
Abstract: An efficient parallel form in digital signal processor can improve the algorithm performance. The butterfly structure is an important role in fast Fourier transform (FFT), because its symmetry form is suitable for hardware implementation. Although it can perform a symmetric structure, the performance will be reduced under the data-dependent flow characteristic. Even though recent research which call as novel memory reference reduction methods (NMRRM) for FFT focus on reduce memory reference in twiddle factor, the data-dependent property still exists. In this paper, we propose a parallel-computing approach for FFT implementation on digital signal processor (DSP) which is based on data-independent property and still hold the property of low-memory reference. The proposed method combines final two steps in NMRRM FFT to perform a novel data-independent structure, besides it is very suitable for multi-operation-unit digital signal processor and dual-core system. We have applied the proposed method of radix-2 FFT algorithm in low memory reference on TI TMSC320C64x DSP. Experimental results show the method can reduce 33.8% clock cycles comparing with the NMRRM FFT implementation and keep the low-memory reference property.
Abstract: Electrical resistivity is a fundamental parameter of metals or electrical conductors. Since resistivity is a function of temperature, in order to completely understand the behavior of metals, a temperature dependent theoretical model is needed. A model based on physics principles has recently been developed to obtain an equation that relates electrical resistivity to temperature. This equation is dependent upon a parameter associated with the electron travel time before being scattered, and a parameter that relates the energy of the atoms and their separation distance. Analysis of the energy parameter reveals that the equation is optimized if the proportionality term in the equation is not constant but varies over the temperature range. Additional analysis reveals that the theoretical equation can be used to determine the mean free path of conduction electrons, the number of defects in the atomic lattice, and the ‘equivalent’ charge associated with the metallic bonding of the atoms. All of this analysis provides validation for the theoretical model and provides insight into the behavior of metals where performance is affected by temperatures (e.g., integrated circuits and temperature sensors).
Abstract: We propose a multi-agent based utilitarian approach
to model and understand information flows in social networks that
lead to Pareto optimal informational exchanges. We model the
individual expected utility function of the agents to reflect the net
value of information received. We show how this model, adapted
from a theorem by Karl Borch dealing with an actuarial Risk
Exchange concept in the Insurance industry, can be used for social
network analysis. We develop a utilitarian framework that allows us
to interpret Pareto optimal exchanges of value as potential
information flows, while achieving a maximization of a sum of
expected utilities of information of the group of agents. We examine
some interesting conditions on the utility function under which the
flows are optimal. We illustrate the promise of this new approach to
attach economic value to information in networks with a synthetic
example.
Abstract: There are many researches to detect collision between real object and virtual object in 3D space. In general, these techniques are need to huge computing power. So, many research and study are constructed by using cloud computing, network computing, and distribute computing. As a reason of these, this paper proposed a novel fast 3D collision detection algorithm between real and virtual object using 2D intersection area. Proposed algorithm uses 4 multiple cameras and coarse-and-fine method to improve accuracy and speed performance of collision detection. In the coarse step, this system examines the intersection area between real and virtual object silhouettes from all camera views. The result of this step is the index of virtual sensors which has a possibility of collision in 3D space. To decide collision accurately, at the fine step, this system examines the collision detection in 3D space by using the visual hull algorithm. Performance of the algorithm is verified by comparing with existing algorithm. We believe proposed algorithm help many other research, study and application fields such as HCI, augmented reality, intelligent space, and so on.
Abstract: Recently, the improvements in processing performance
of a computer and in high speed communication of an optical fiber
have been achieved, so that the amount of data which are processed
by a computer and flowed on a network has been increasing greatly.
However, in a client-server system, since the server receives and
processes the amount of data from the clients through the network, a
load on the server is increasing. Thus, there are needed to introduce
a server with high processing ability and to have a line with high
bandwidth. In this paper, concerning to P2P networks to resolve the
load on a specific server, a criterion called an Indexed-Priority Metric
is proposed and its performance is evaluated. The proposed metric is
to allocate some files to each node. As a result, the load on a specific
server can distribute them to each node equally well. A P2P file
sharing system using the proposed metric is implemented. Simulation
results show that the proposed metric can make it distribute files on
the specific server.
Abstract: The problem of updating damped gyroscopic systems using measured modal data can be mathematically formulated as following two problems. Problem I: Given Ma ∈ Rn×n, Λ = diag{λ1, ··· , λp} ∈ Cp×p, X = [x1, ··· , xp] ∈ Cn×p, where p
Abstract: Context awareness is a capability whereby mobile
computing devices can sense their physical environment and adapt
their behavior accordingly. The term context-awareness, in
ubiquitous computing, was introduced by Schilit in 1994 and has
become one of the most exciting concepts in early 21st-century
computing, fueled by recent developments in pervasive computing
(i.e. mobile and ubiquitous computing). These include computing
devices worn by users, embedded devices, smart appliances, sensors
surrounding users and a variety of wireless networking technologies.
Context-aware applications use context information to adapt
interfaces, tailor the set of application-relevant data, increase the
precision of information retrieval, discover services, make the user
interaction implicit, or build smart environments. For example: A
context aware mobile phone will know that the user is currently in a
meeting room, and reject any unimportant calls. One of the major
challenges in providing users with context-aware services lies in
continuously monitoring their contexts based on numerous sensors
connected to the context aware system through wireless
communication. A number of context aware frameworks based on
sensors have been proposed, but many of them have neglected the
fact that monitoring with sensors imposes heavy workloads on
ubiquitous devices with limited computing power and battery. In this
paper, we present CALEEF, a lightweight and energy efficient
context aware framework for resource limited ubiquitous devices.
Abstract: Knowledge discovery from text and ontology learning
are relatively new fields. However their usage is extended in many
fields like Information Retrieval (IR) and its related domains. Human
Plausible Reasoning based (HPR) IR systems for example need a
knowledge base as their underlying system which is currently made
by hand. In this paper we propose an architecture based on ontology
learning methods to automatically generate the needed HPR
knowledge base.
