Abstract: Microstructural and electrical properties of
Cu-chromium alloy (Cu-Cr) dispersed with vapor-grown carbon fiber
(VGCF) prepared by powder metallurgy (P/M) process have been
investigated. Cu-0.7 mass% Cr pre-alloyed powder (Cu-Cr) made by
water atomization process was used as raw materials, which contained
solid solute Cr elements in Cu matrix. The alloy powder coated with
un-bundled VGCF by using oil coating process was consolidated at
1223 K in vacuum by spark plasma sintering, and then extruded at
1073 K. The extruded Cu-Cr alloy (monolithic alloy) had 209.3 MPa
YS and 80.4 IACS% conductivity. The extruded Cu-Cr with 0.1
mass% VGCF composites revealed a small decrease of YS compared
to the monolithic Cu-Cr alloy. On the other hand, the composite had a
higher electrical conductivity than that of the monolithic alloy. For
example, Cu-Cr with 0.1 mass% VGCF composite sintered for 5 h
showed 182.7 MPa YS and 89.7 IACS% conductivity. In the case of
Cu-Cr with VGCFs composites, the Cr concentration was observed
around VGCF by SEM-EDS analysis, where Cr23C6 compounds were
detected by TEM observation. The amount of Cr solid solution in the
matrix of the Cu-Cr composites alloy was about 50% compared to the
monolithic Cu-Cr sintered alloy, and resulted in the remarkable
increment of the electrical conductivity.
Abstract: The aim of this study is to investigate formability of
Al based closed cell metallic foams at high temperature. The foam
specimens with rectangular section were produced from
AlMg1Si0.6TiH20.8 alloy preform material. Bending and free
bending tests based on gravity effect were applied to foam specimens
at high temperatures. During the tests, the time-angular deformation
relationships with various temperatures were determined.
Deformation types formed in cell walls were investigated by means
of Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) and optical microscopy.
Bending deformation about 90° was achieved without any defect at
high temperatures. The importance of a critical temperature and
deformation rate was emphasized in maintaining the deformation.
Significant slip lines on surface of cell walls at tensile zones of
bending specimen were observed. At high strain rates, the microcrack
formation in boundaries of elongated grains was determined.
Abstract: Thousands of organisations store important and
confidential information related to them, their customers, and their
business partners in databases all across the world. The stored data
ranges from less sensitive (e.g. first name, last name, date of birth) to
more sensitive data (e.g. password, pin code, and credit card
information). Losing data, disclosing confidential information or
even changing the value of data are the severe damages that
Structured Query Language injection (SQLi) attack can cause on a
given database. It is a code injection technique where malicious SQL
statements are inserted into a given SQL database by simply using a
web browser. In this paper, we propose an effective pattern
recognition neural network model for detection and classification of
SQLi attacks. The proposed model is built from three main elements
of: a Uniform Resource Locator (URL) generator in order to generate
thousands of malicious and benign URLs, a URL classifier in order
to: 1) classify each generated URL to either a benign URL or a
malicious URL and 2) classify the malicious URLs into different
SQLi attack categories, and a NN model in order to: 1) detect either a
given URL is a malicious URL or a benign URL and 2) identify the
type of SQLi attack for each malicious URL. The model is first
trained and then evaluated by employing thousands of benign and
malicious URLs. The results of the experiments are presented in
order to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed approach.
Abstract: This paper presents a numerical investigation of two
horizontally mounted four-lobed swirl pipes in terms of swirl
induction effectiveness into flows passing through them. The swirl
flows induced by the two swirl pipes have the potential to improve
the efficiency of Clean-In-Place procedures in a closed processing
system by local intensification of hydrodynamic impact on the
internal pipe surface. Pressure losses, swirl development within the
two swirl pipe, swirl induction effectiveness, swirl decay and wall
shear stress variation downstream of two swirl pipes are analyzed and
compared. It was found that a shorter length of swirl inducing pipe
used in joint with transition pipes is more effective in swirl induction
than when a longer one is used, in that it has a less constraint to the
induced swirl and results in slightly higher swirl intensity just
downstream of it with the expense of a smaller pressure loss. The
wall shear stress downstream of the shorter swirl pipe is also slightly
larger than that downstream of the longer swirl pipe due to the
slightly higher swirl intensity induced by the shorter swirl pipe. The
advantage of the shorter swirl pipe in terms of swirl induction is more
significant in flows with a larger Reynolds Number.
Abstract: A new steganographic method via the use of numeric
data on public websites with a self-authentication capability is
proposed. The proposed technique transforms a secret message into
partial shares by Shamir’s (k, n)-threshold secret sharing scheme with
n = k + 1. The generated k+1 partial shares then are embedded into the
numeric items to be disguised as part of the website’s numeric content,
yielding the stego numeric content. Afterward, a receiver links to the
website and extracts every k shares among the k+1 ones from the stego
numeric content to compute k+1 copies of the secret, and the
phenomenon of value consistency of the computed k+1 copies is taken
as an evidence to determine whether the extracted message is authentic
or not, attaining the goal of self-authentication of the extracted secret
message. Experimental results and discussions are provided to show
the feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed method.
Abstract: Family is a basic unit of the society and the main
source of human development. The initial aim of the family is
psychological and social support of its members and has special
developmental stages. Researches show the families who have less
cohesion, have more conflicts and maladjustments and the members
of such families are not able to communicate effectively. Family is a
system in which any inter communication is related to child rearing
patterns and can affect it. Even the child rearing styles in childhood
can determine the family communications in adulthood. Therefore,
the aim of the present research was to examine the relationship
between child-rearing styles including authoritative, authoritarian and
permissive with dimensions of family communication patterns
including the conversation and conformity. The research design was a
correlational and the population consisted of the psychology students
of Roudehen Islamic Azad University who were studying in
academic year 2013-2014. A sample of 324 students was selected
randomly from the population. The research tools were the Baumrind
Child-rearing Questionnaires and Family Communication
Patterns Inventory, The Revised Scale of Koerner and Fitzpatrick.
The result was as below: (a) there was a positive and significant
relationship between conversation orientation and authoritative style.
(b) There was no significant relationship between conversation
orientation and other child-rearing styles. (c) There was a negative
significant relationship between conformity orientation and
authoritative style. (d) There was a positive significant relationship
between conformity orientation with authoritarian and permissive
styles. (e) There was a significant relationship between 3 dimensions
of child-rearing and communication patterns.
Abstract: The paper presents new results concerning selection of
optimal information fusion formula for ensembles of C-OTDR
channels. The goal of information fusion is to create an integral
classificator designed for effective classification of seismoacoustic
target events. The LPBoost (LP-β and LP-B variants), the Multiple
Kernel Learning, and Weighing of Inversely as Lipschitz Constants
(WILC) approaches were compared. The WILC is a brand new
approach to optimal fusion of Lipschitz Classifiers Ensembles.
Results of practical usage are presented.
Abstract: The US Consumer Price Indices (CPIs) measures
hundreds of items in the US economy. Many social programs
and government benefits index to the CPIs. The purpose of
this project is to modernize an existing process. This paper will
show the development of a small, visual, software product that
documents the Economic Price Adjustment (EPA) for longterm
contracts. The existing workbook does not provide the
flexibility to calculate EPAs where the base-month and the
option-month are different. Nor does the workbook provide
automated error checking. The small, visual, software product
provides the additional flexibility and error checking. This
paper presents the feedback to project.
Abstract: Chitosan functionalized Fe3O4-Au core shell
nanoparticles have been prepared using a two-step wet chemical
approach using NaBH4 as reducing agent for formation of Au in
ethylene glycol. X-ray diffraction studies shows individual phases of
Fe3O4 and Au in the as prepared samples with crystallite size of 5.9
and 11.4 nm respectively. The functionalization of the core-shell
nanostructure with Chitosan has been confirmed using Fourier
transform infrared spectroscopy along with signatures of octahedral
and tetrahedral sites of Fe3O4 below 600cm-1. Mössbauer
spectroscopy shows decrease in particle-particle interaction in
presence of Au shell (72% sextet) than pure oleic coated Fe3O4
nanoparticles (88% sextet) at room temperature. At 80K, oleic acid
coated Fe3O4 shows only sextets whereas the Chitosan functionalized
Fe3O4 and Chitosan functionalized Fe3O4@Au core shell show
presence of 5 and 11% doublet, respectively.
Abstract: This research study aims to present a retrospective
study about speech recognition systems and artificial intelligence.
Speech recognition has become one of the widely used technologies,
as it offers great opportunity to interact and communicate with
automated machines. Precisely, it can be affirmed that speech
recognition facilitates its users and helps them to perform their daily
routine tasks, in a more convenient and effective manner. This
research intends to present the illustration of recent technological
advancements, which are associated with artificial intelligence.
Recent researches have revealed the fact that speech recognition is
found to be the utmost issue, which affects the decoding of speech. In
order to overcome these issues, different statistical models were
developed by the researchers. Some of the most prominent statistical
models include acoustic model (AM), language model (LM), lexicon
model, and hidden Markov models (HMM). The research will help in
understanding all of these statistical models of speech recognition.
Researchers have also formulated different decoding methods, which
are being utilized for realistic decoding tasks and constrained
artificial languages. These decoding methods include pattern
recognition, acoustic phonetic, and artificial intelligence. It has been
recognized that artificial intelligence is the most efficient and reliable
methods, which are being used in speech recognition.
Abstract: Many water desalination technologies have been
developed but in general they are energy intensive and have high cost
and adverse environmental impact. Recently, adsorption technology
for water desalination has been investigated showing the potential of
using low temperature waste heat (50-85oC) thus reducing energy
consumption and CO2 emissions. This work mathematically
compares the performance of an adsorption cycle that produces two
useful effects namely, fresh water and cooling using two different
adsorbents, silica-gel and an advanced zeolite material AQSOA-ZO2,
produced by Mitsubishi plastics. It was found that at low chilled
water temperatures, typically below 20oC, the AQSOA-Z02 is more
efficient than silica-gel as the cycle can produce 5.8 m3 of fresh water
per day and 50.1 Rton of cooling per tonne of AQSOA-ZO2. Above
20oC silica-gel is still better as the cycle production reaches 8.4 m3
per day and 62.4 Rton per tonne of silica-gel. These results show the
potential of using the AQSOA-Z02 at low chilled water temperature
for water desalination and cooling applications.
Abstract: Plasmin plays an important role in the human
circulatory system owing to its catalytic ability of fibrinolysis. The
immediate injection of plasmin in patients of strokes has intrigued
many scientists to design vectors that can transport plasmin to the
desired location in human body. Here we predict the structure of
human plasmin and investigate the interaction of plasmin with the
gold-nanoparticle.
Because the crystal structure of plasminogen has been solved, we
deleted N-terminal domain (Pan-apple domain) of plasminogen and
generate a mimic of the active form of this enzyme (plasmin). We
conducted a simulated annealing process on plasmin and discovered a
very large conformation occurs. Kringle domains 1, 4 and 5 had been
observed to leave its original location relative to the main body of the
enzyme and the original doughnut shape of this enzyme has been
transformed to a V-shaped by opening its two arms. This observation
of conformational change is consistent with the experimental results of
neutron scattering and centrifugation.
We subsequently docked the plasmin on the simulated gold surface
to predict their interaction. The V-shaped plasmin could utilize its
Kringle domain and catalytic domain to contact the gold surface.
Our findings not only reveal the flexibility of plasmin structure but
also provide a guide for the design of a plasmin-gold nanoparticle.
Abstract: The aim of the current study was to develop and
validate a Response to Stressful Situations Scale (RSSS) for the
Portuguese population. This scale assesses the degree of stress
experienced in scenarios that can constitute positive, negative and
more neutral stressors, and also describes the physiological,
emotional and behavioral reactions to those events according to their
intensity. These scenarios include typical stressor scenarios relevant
to patients with schizophrenia, which are currently absent from most
scales, assessing specific risks that these stressors may bring on
subjects, which may prove useful in non-clinical and clinical
populations (i.e. Patients with mood or anxiety disorders,
schizophrenia). Results from Principal Components Analysis and
Confirmatory Factor Analysis of two adult samples from general
population allowed to confirm a three-factor model with good fit
indices: χ2 (144)= 370.211, p = 0.000; GFI = 0.928; CFI = 0.927; TLI =
0.914, RMSEA = 0.055, P(rmsea ≤0.005) = .096; PCFI = .781.
Further data analysis of the scale revealed that RSSS is an adequate
assessment tool of stress response in adults to be used in further
research and clinical settings, with good psychometric characteristics,
adequate divergent and convergent validity, good temporal stability
and high internal consistency.
Abstract: Advanced treatments such as forward osmosis (FO)
can be used to separate or reject nutrients from secondary treated
effluents. Forward osmosis uses the chemical potential across the
membrane, which is the osmotic pressure gradient, to induce water to
flow through the membrane from a feed solution (FS) into a draw
solution (DS). The performance of FO is affected by the membrane
characteristics, composition of the FS and DS, and operating
conditions. The aim of this study was to investigate the optimum
velocity and temperature for nutrient rejection and water flux
performance in FO treatments. MgCl2 was used as the DS in the FO
process. The results showed that higher cross flow velocities yielded
higher water fluxes. High rejection of nutrients was achieved by using
a moderate cross flow velocity at 0.25 m/s. Nutrient rejection was
insensitive to temperature variation, whereas water flux was
significantly impacted by it. A temperature of 25°C was found to be
good for nutrient rejection.
Abstract: The Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing
(OFDM) with high data rate, high spectral efficiency and its ability to
mitigate the effects of multipath makes them most suitable in wireless
application. Impulsive noise distorts the OFDM transmission and
therefore methods must be investigated to suppress this noise. In this
paper, a State Space Recursive Least Square (SSRLS) algorithm
based adaptive impulsive noise suppressor for OFDM
communication system is proposed. And a comparison with another
adaptive algorithm is conducted. The state space model-dependent
recursive parameters of proposed scheme enables to achieve steady
state mean squared error (MSE), low bit error rate (BER), and faster
convergence than that of some of existing algorithm.

Abstract: In this paper, we propose a system for preventing gas
risks through the use of wireless communication modules and
intelligent gas safety appliances. Our system configuration consists of
an automatic extinguishing system, detectors, a wall-pad, and a
microcomputer controlled micom gas meter to monitor gas flow and
pressure as well as the occurrence of earthquakes. The automatic fire
extinguishing system checks for both combustible gaseous leaks and
monitors the environmental temperature, while the detector array
measures smoke and CO gas concentrations. Depending on detected
conditions, the micom gas meter cuts off an inner valve and generates
a warning, the automatic fire-extinguishing system cuts off an external
valve and sprays extinguishing materials, or the sensors generate
signals and take further action when smoke or CO are detected.
Information on intelligent measures taken by the gas safety appliances
and sensors are transmitted to the wall-pad, which in turn relays this as
real time data to a server that can be monitored via an external network
(BcN) connection to a web or mobile application for the management
of gas safety. To validate this smart-home gas management system, we
field-tested its suitability for use in Korean apartments under several
scenarios.
Abstract: Here, we study the characteristic feature of
conventional (ON-OFF keying) and soliton based transmission
system. We consider 20Gbps transmission system implemented with
Conventional Single Mode Fiber (C-SMF) to examine the role of
Gaussian pulse which is the characteristic of conventional
propagation and Hyperbolic-secant pulse which is the characteristic
of soliton propagation in it. We note the influence of these pulses
with respect to different dispersion lengths and soliton period in
conventional and soliton system respectively and evaluate the system
performance in terms of Quality factor. From the analysis, we could
prove that the soliton pulse has the consistent performance even for
long distance without dispersion compensation than the conventional
system as it is robust to dispersion. For the length of transmission of
200Km, soliton system yielded Q of 33.958 while the conventional
system totally exhausted with Q=0.
Abstract: Microstructural and hardening changes of
Fe-0.2wt.%V alloy and pure Fe irradiated with 100 keV hydrogen ions
at room temperature were investigated. It was found that dislocation
density varies dramatically after irradiation, ranging from dislocation
free to dense areas with tangled and complex dislocation
configuration. As the irradiated Fe-0.2wt.%V samples were annealed
at 773 K, the irradiation-induced dislocation loops disappear, while
many small precipitates with enriched C distribute in the matrix. Some
large precipitates with enriched V were also observed. The hardness of
Fe-0.2wt.%V alloy and pure Fe increases after irradiation, which
ascribes to the formation of dislocation loops in the irradiated
specimens. Compared with pure Fe, the size of the
irradiation-introduced dislocation loops in Fe-0.2wt.%V alloy
decreases and the density increases, the change of the hardness also
decreases.
Abstract: The separation of Hg (II) from produced water by
hollow fiber contactors (HFC) was investigation. This system
included of two hollow fiber modules in the series connecting. The
first module used for the extraction reaction and the second module
for stripping reaction. Aliquat336 extractant was fed from the organic
reservoirs into the shell side of the first hollow fiber module and
continuous to the shell side of the second module. The organic liquid
was continuously feed recirculate and back to the reservoirs. The feed
solution was pumped into the lumen (tube side) of the first hollow
fiber module. Simultaneously, the stripping solution was pumped in
the same way in tube side of the second module. The feed and
stripping solution was fed which had a countercurrent flow. Samples
were kept in the outlet of feed and stripping solution at 1 hour and
characterized concentration of Hg (II) by Inductively Couple Plasma
Atomic Emission Spectroscopy (ICP-AES). Feed solution was
produced water from natural gulf of Thailand. The extractant was
Aliquat336 dissolved in kerosene diluent. Stripping solution used was
nitric acid (HNO3) and thiourea (NH2CSNH2). The effect of carrier
concentration and type of stripping solution were investigated.
Results showed that the best condition were 10 % (v/v) Aliquat336
and 1.0 M NH2CSNH2. At the optimum condition, the extraction and
stripping of Hg (II) were 98% and 44.2%, respectively.
