Abstract: Fuel cells have become one of the major areas of
research in the academia and the industry. The goal of most fish
farmers is to maximize production and profits while holding labor
and management efforts to the minimum. Risk of fish kills, disease
outbreaks, poor water quality in most pond culture operations,
aeration offers the most immediate and practical solution to water
quality problems encountered at higher stocking and feeding rates.
Many units of aeration system are electrical units so using a
continuous, high reliability, affordable, and environmentally friendly
power sources is necessary. Aeration of water by using PEM fuel cell
power is not only a new application of the renewable energy, but
also, it provides an affordable method to promote biodiversity in
stagnant ponds and lakes. This paper presents a new design and
control of PEM fuel cell powered a diffused air aeration system for a
shrimp farm in Mersa Matruh in Egypt. Also Artificial intelligence
(AI) techniques control is used to control the fuel cell output power
by control input gases flow rate. Moreover the mathematical
modeling and simulation of PEM fuel cell is introduced. A
comparison study is applied between the performance of fuzzy logic
control (FLC) and neural network control (NNC). The results show
the effectiveness of NNC over FLC.
Abstract: Vehicular communications play a substantial role in providing safety in transportation by means of safety message exchange. Researchers have proposed several solutions for securing safety messages. Protocols based on a fixed key infrastructure are more efficient in implementation and maintain stronger security in comparison with dynamic structures. These protocols utilize zone partitioning to establish distinct key infrastructure under Certificate Authority (CA) supervision in different regions. Secure anonymous broadcasting (SAB) is one of these protocols that preserves most of security aspects but it has some deficiencies in practice. A very important issue is region change of a vehicle for its mobility. Changing regions leads to change of CA and necessity of having new key set to resume communication. In this paper, we propose solutions for informing vehicles about region change to obtain new key set before entering next region. This hinders attackers- intrusion, packet loss and lessons time delay. We also make key request messages secure by confirming old CA-s public key to the message, hence stronger security for safety message broadcasting is attained.
Abstract: New graph similarity methods have been proposed in this work with the aim to refining the chemical information extracted from molecules matching. For this purpose, data fusion of the isomorphic and nonisomorphic subgraphs into a new similarity measure, the Approximate Similarity, was carried out by several approaches. The application of the proposed method to the development of quantitative structure-activity relationships (QSAR) has provided reliable tools for predicting several pharmacological parameters: binding of steroids to the globulin-corticosteroid receptor, the activity of benzodiazepine receptor compounds, and the blood brain barrier permeability. Acceptable results were obtained for the models presented here.
Abstract: Gauteng, as the province with the greatest industrial and population density, the economic hub of South Africa also generates the greatest amount of waste, both general and hazardous. Therefore the province has a significant need to develop and apply appropriate integrated waste management policies that ensure that waste is recognised as a serious problem and is managed in an effective integrated manner to preserve both the present and future human health and environment. This paper reflects on Gauteng-s waste outlook in particular the province-s General Waste Minimisation Plan and its Integrated Waste Management Policy. The paper also looks at general waste generation, recyclable waste streams as well as recycling and separation at source initiatives in the province. Both the quantity and nature of solid waste differs considerably across the socio-economic spectrum. People in informal settlements generate an average of 0.16 kg per person per day whereas 2 kg per day is not unusual in affluent areas. For example the amount of waste generated in Johannesburg is approximately 1.2 kg per person per day.
Abstract: Quality control is the crucial step for ISO 9001
Quality System Management Standard for companies. While
measuring the quality level of both raw material and semi
product/product, the calibration of the measuring device is an
essential requirement. Calibration suppliers are in the service sector
and therefore the calibration supplier selection is becoming a worthy
topic for improving service quality.
This study presents the results of a questionnaire about the
selection criteria of a calibration supplier. The questionnaire was
applied to 103 companies and the results are discussed in this paper.
The analysis was made with MINITAB 14.0 statistical programs.
“Competence of documentations" and “technical capability" are
defined as the prerequisites because of the ISO/IEC17025:2005
standard. Also “warranties and complaint policy", “communication",
“service features", “quality" and “performance history" are defined as
very important criteria for calibration supplier selection.
Abstract: In this investigation, the antibacterial effects of
ethanolic and 7:3 isopropyl –hexane mixture extracts of Zingiber
officinale were evaluated against three Gram positive bacteria, B.
cereus, S.epidermidis, S. aureus and three Gram negative bacteria, E.
coli, K.pneumonia and P.areuginosa. Utilizing paper disk diffusion
and well methods in-vitro, MIC and MBC were determined by
macrodilution. The results showed that ethanolic rhizome extract of
ginger had significantly active than Isopropyl –hexan extract. Further
work needs to be done in these extracts including fractionation to
isolate active constituents and subsequent pharmacological
evaluation.
Abstract: Desert regions around the Nile valley in Upper Egypt
contain great extent of swelling soil. Many different comment
procedures of treatment of the swelling soils for construction such as
pre-swelling, load balance OR soil replacement. One of the measure
factors which affect the level of the aggressiveness of the swelling
soil is the direction of the infiltration water directions within the
swelling soils. In this paper a physical model was installed to
measure the effect of water on the swelling soil with replacement
using fatty acid distillation residuals (FADR) mixed with sand as
thick sand-FADR mixture to prevent the water pathway arrive to the
swelling soil. Testing program have been conducted on different
artificial samples with different sand to FADR contents ratios (4%,
6%, and 9%) to get the optimum value fulfilling the impermeable
replacement. The tests show that a FADR content of 9% is sufficient
to produce impermeable replacement.
Abstract: Determining how many virtual machines a Linux host
could run can be a challenge. One of tough missions is to find the
balance among performance, density and usability. Now KVM
hypervisor has become the most popular open source full
virtualization solution. It supports several ways of running guests with
more memory than host really has. Due to large differences between
minimum and maximum guest memory requirements, this paper
presents initial results on same-page merging, ballooning and live
migration techniques that aims at optimum memory usage on
KVM-based cloud platform. Given the design of initial experiments,
the results data is worth reference for system administrators. The
results from these experiments concluded that each method offers
different reliability tradeoff.
Abstract: Utilization of waste material in asphalt pavement
would be beneficial in order to find an alternative solution to increase
service life of asphalt pavement and reduce environmental pollution
as well. One of these waste materials is Polyethylene Terephthalate
(PET) which is a type of polyester material and is produced in a large
extent. This research program is investigating the effects of adding
waste PET particles into the asphalt mixture with a maximum size of
2.36 mm. Different percentages of PET were added into the mixture
during dry process. Gap-graded mixture (SMA 14) and PG 80-100
asphalt binder have been used for this study. To evaluate PET
reinforced asphalt mixture different laboratory investigations have
been conducted on specimens. Marshall Stability test was carried
out. Besides, stiffness modulus test and indirect tensile fatigue test
were conducted on specimens at optimum asphalt content. It was
observed that in many cases PET reinforced SMA mixture had better
mechanical properties in comparison with control mixture.
Abstract: In this paper, numerical simulations are performed to investigate the effect of disturbance block on flow field of the classical square lid-driven cavity. Attentions are focused on vortex formation and studying the effect of block position on its structure. Corner vortices are different upon block position and new vortices are produced because of the block. Finite volume method is used to solve Navier-Stokes equations and PISO algorithm is employed for the linkage of velocity and pressure. Verification and grid independency of results are reported. Stream lines are sketched to visualize vortex structure in different block positions.
Abstract: Pyrite (FeS2) is a promising candidate for cathode
materials in batteries because of it`s high theoretical capacity, low
cost and non-toxicity. In this study, nano size iron disulfide thin film
was prepared on graphite substrate through a new method as battery
cathode. In this way, acetylene black and poly vinylidene fluoride
were used as electron conductor and binder, respectively. Fabricated
thin films were analyzed by XRD and SEM. These results and
electrochemical data confirm improvement of battery discharge
capacity in comparison with commercial type of pyrite.
Abstract: The effects of irrigation with dairy factory wastewater
on soil properties were investigated at two sites that had received
irrigation for > 60 years. Two adjoining paired sites that had never
received DFE were also sampled as well as another seven fields from
a wider area around the factory. In comparison with paired sites that
had not received effluent, long-term wastewater irrigation resulted in
an increase in pH, EC, extractable P, exchangeable Na and K and
ESP. These changes were related to the use of phosphoric acid,
NaOH and KOH as cleaning agents in the factory. Soil organic C
content was unaffected by DFE irrigation but the size (microbial
biomass C and N) and activity (basal respiration) of the soil
microbial community were increased. These increases were
attributed to regular inputs of soluble C (e.g. lactose) present as milk
residues in the wastewater. Principal component analysis (PCA) of
the soils data from all 11sites confirmed that the main effects of DFE
irrigation were an increase in exchangeable Na, extractable P and
microbial biomass C, an accumulation of soluble salts and a liming
effect. PCA analysis of soil bacterial community structure, using
PCR-DGGE of 16S rDNA fragments, generally separated individual
sites from one another but did not group them according to irrigation
history. Thus, whilst the size and activity of the soil microbial
community were increased, the structure and diversity of the
bacterial community remained unaffected.
Abstract: We investigate nonfactorizable contributions to
D → ¤Ç¤Ç decay modes. We perform isospin analysis of the
nonfactorizable contributions to these decays. Obtaining the
factorizable contributions from spectator-quark diagrams using
= 3 C N , we determine nonfactorizable amplitudes for these decays
and predict their branching ratios.
Abstract: In this paper comparison of Reflector Antenna
analyzing techniques based on wave and ray nature of optics is
presented for an offset reflector antenna using GRASP (General
Reflector antenna Analysis Software Package) software. The results
obtained using PO (Physical Optics), PTD (Physical theory of
Diffraction), and GTD (Geometrical Theory of Diffraction) are
compared. The validity of PO and GTD techniques in regions around
the antenna, caustic behavior of GTD in main beam, and deviation of
GTD in case of near-in sidelobes of radiation pattern are discussed.
The comparison for far-out sidelobes predicted by PO, PO + PTD
and GTD is described. The effect of Direct Radiations from feed
which results in feed selection for the system is addressed.
Abstract: The problem of incompressible steady flow simulation around an airfoil is discussed. For some simplest airfoils (circular, elliptical, Zhukovsky airfoils) the exact solution is known from complex analysis. It allows to compute the intensity of vortex layer which simulates the airfoil. Some modifications of the vortex element method are proposed and test computations are carried out. It-s shown that the these approaches are much more effective in comparison with the classical numerical scheme.
Abstract: One of the most attractive and important field of chaos theory is control of chaos. In this paper, we try to present a simple framework for chaotic motion control using the feedback linearization method. Using this approach, we derive a strategy, which can be easily applied to the other chaotic systems. This task presents two novel results: the desired periodic orbit need not be a solution of the original dynamics and the other is the robustness of response against parameter variations. The illustrated simulations show the ability of these. In addition, by a comparison between a conventional state feedback and our proposed method it is demonstrated that the introduced technique is more efficient.
Abstract: Program slicing is the task of finding all statements in a program that directly or indirectly influence the value of a variable occurrence. The set of statements that can affect the value of a variable at some point in a program is called a program slice. In several software engineering applications, such as program debugging and measuring program cohesion and parallelism, several slices are computed at different program points. In this paper, algorithms are introduced to compute all backward and forward static slices of a computer program by traversing the program representation graph once. The program representation graph used in this paper is called Program Dependence Graph (PDG). We have conducted an experimental comparison study using 25 software modules to show the effectiveness of the introduced algorithm for computing all backward static slices over single-point slicing approaches in computing the parallelism and functional cohesion of program modules. The effectiveness of the algorithm is measured in terms of time execution and number of traversed PDG edges. The comparison study results indicate that using the introduced algorithm considerably saves the slicing time and effort required to measure module parallelism and functional cohesion.
Abstract: Smoke discharging is a main reason of air pollution
problem from industrial plants. The obstacle of a building has an
affect with the air pollutant discharge. In this research, a mathematical
model of the smoke dispersion from two sources and one source with
a structural obstacle is considered. The governing equation of the
model is an isothermal mass transfer model in a viscous fluid. The
finite element method is used to approximate the solutions of the
model. The triangular linear elements have been used for discretising
the domain, and time integration has been carried out by semi-implicit
finite difference method. The simulations of smoke dispersion in
cases of one chimney and two chimneys are presented. The maximum
calculated smoke concentration of both cases are compared. It is then
used to make the decision for smoke discharging and air pollutant
control problems on industrial area.
Abstract: Fuzzy logic approach is used in this study to predict
the tractive performance in terms of traction force, and motion
resistance for an intelligent air cushion track vehicle while it operates
in the swamp peat. The system is effective to control the intelligent
air –cushion system with measuring the vehicle traction force (TF),
motion resistance (MR), cushion clearance height (CH) and cushion
pressure (CP). Sinkage measuring sensor, magnetic switch, pressure
sensor, micro controller, control valves and battery are incorporated
with the Fuzzy logic system (FLS) to investigate experimentally the
TF, MR, CH, and CP. In this study, a comparison for tractive
performance of an intelligent air cushion track vehicle has been
performed with the results obtained from the predicted values of FLS
and experimental actual values. The mean relative error of actual and
predicted values from the FLS model on traction force, and total
motion resistance are found as 5.58 %, and 6.78 % respectively. For
all parameters, the relative error of predicted values are found to be
less than the acceptable limits. The goodness of fit of the prediction
values from the FLS model on TF, and MR are found as 0.90, and
0.98 respectively.
Abstract: Later marine propeller is the main component of ship
propulsion system. For a non-series propeller, it is difficult to
indicate the open water marine propeller performance without an
experimental study to measure the marine propeller parameters.
In the present study, the open water performance of a non-series
marine propeller has been carried out experimentally. The
geometrical aspects of a commercial non-series marine propeller
have been measured for a propeller blade area ratio of 0.3985. The
measured propeller performance parameters were the thrust and
torque coefficients for different propeller rotational speed and
different water channel flow velocity, then the open water
performance for the propeller has been plotted.
In addition, a direct comparison between the obtained
experimental results and a theoretical study of a B-series marine
propeller of the same blade area ratio has been carried out. A
correction factor has been introduced to apply the operating
conditions of the experimental results to that of the theoretical study
for the studied marine propeller.
