Abstract: In this paper, a new method of image edge-detection
and characterization is presented. “Parametric Filtering method" uses
a judicious defined filter, which preserves the signal correlation
structure as input in the autocorrelation of the output. This leads,
showing the evolution of the image correlation structure as well as
various distortion measures which quantify the deviation between
two zones of the signal (the two Hamming signals) for the protection
of an image edge.
Abstract: In this paper, we present an improved fast and robust
search algorithm for copy detection using histogram-based features for
short MPEG video clips from large video database. There are two
types of histogram features used to generate more robust features. The
first one is based on the adjacent pixel intensity difference quantization
(APIDQ) algorithm, which had been reliably applied to human face
recognition previously. An APIDQ histogram is utilized as the feature
vector of the frame image. Another one is ordinal histogram feature
which is robust to color distortion. Furthermore, by Combining with a
temporal division method, the spatial and temporal features of the
video sequence are integrated to realize fast and robust video search
for copy detection. Experimental results show the proposed algorithm
can detect the similar video clip more accurately and robust than
conventional fast video search algorithm.
Abstract: In this paper, we propose an improved fast search
algorithm using combined histogram features and temporal division
method for short MPEG video clips from large video database. There
are two types of histogram features used to generate more robust
features. The first one is based on the adjacent pixel intensity
difference quantization (APIDQ) algorithm, which had been reliably
applied to human face recognition previously. An APIDQ histogram is
utilized as the feature vector of the frame image. Another one is
ordinal feature which is robust to color distortion. Combined with
active search [4], a temporal pruning algorithm, fast and robust video
search can be realized. The proposed search algorithm has been
evaluated by 6 hours of video to search for given 200 MPEG video
clips which each length is 30 seconds. Experimental results show the
proposed algorithm can detect the similar video clip in merely 120ms,
and Equal Error Rate (ERR) of 1% is achieved, which is more
accurately and robust than conventional fast video search algorithm.
Abstract: The development of aid's systems for the medical
diagnosis is not easy thing because of presence of inhomogeneities in
the MRI, the variability of the data from a sequence to the other as
well as of other different source distortions that accentuate this
difficulty. A new automatic, contextual, adaptive and robust
segmentation procedure by MRI brain tissue classification is
described in this article. A first phase consists in estimating the
density of probability of the data by the Parzen-Rozenblatt method.
The classification procedure is completely automatic and doesn't
make any assumptions nor on the clusters number nor on the
prototypes of these clusters since these last are detected in an
automatic manner by an operator of mathematical morphology called
skeleton by influence zones detection (SKIZ). The problem of
initialization of the prototypes as well as their number is transformed
in an optimization problem; in more the procedure is adaptive since it
takes in consideration the contextual information presents in every
voxel by an adaptive and robust non parametric model by the
Markov fields (MF). The number of bad classifications is reduced by
the use of the criteria of MPM minimization (Maximum Posterior
Marginal).
Abstract: Active Power Filters (APFs) are today the most
widely used systems to eliminate harmonics compensate power
factor and correct unbalanced problems in industrial power plants.
We propose to improve the performances of conventional APFs by
using artificial neural networks (ANNs) for harmonics estimation.
This new method combines both the strategies for extracting the
three-phase reference currents for active power filters and DC link
voltage control method. The ANNs learning capabilities to
adaptively choose the power system parameters for both to compute
the reference currents and to recharge the capacitor value requested
by VDC voltage in order to ensure suitable transit of powers to
supply the inverter. To investigate the performance of this
identification method, the study has been accomplished using
simulation with the MATLAB Simulink Power System Toolbox. The
simulation study results of the new (SAPF) identification technique
compared to other similar methods are found quite satisfactory by
assuring good filtering characteristics and high system stability.
Abstract: In this paper, we propose a robust scheme to work face alignment and recognition under various influences. For face representation, illumination influence and variable expressions are the important factors, especially the accuracy of facial localization and face recognition. In order to solve those of factors, we propose a robust approach to overcome these problems. This approach consists of two phases. One phase is preprocessed for face images by means of the proposed illumination normalization method. The location of facial features can fit more efficient and fast based on the proposed image blending. On the other hand, based on template matching, we further improve the active shape models (called as IASM) to locate the face shape more precise which can gain the recognized rate in the next phase. The other phase is to process feature extraction by using principal component analysis and face recognition by using support vector machine classifiers. The results show that this proposed method can obtain good facial localization and face recognition with varied illumination and local distortion.
Abstract: This paper presents a fuzzy logic controlled shunt
active power filter used to compensate for harmonic distortion in three-phase four-wire systems. The shunt active filter employs a
simple method for the calculation of the reference compensation current based of Fast Fourier Transform. This presented filter is able
to operate in both balanced and unbalanced load conditions. A fuzzy
logic based current controller strategy is used to regulate the filter current and hence ensure harmonic free supply current. The validity
of the presented approach in harmonic mitigation is verified via
simulation results of the proposed test system under different loading
conditions.
Abstract: This paper presents a novel sinusoidal modulation
scheme that features least correlated noise and high linearity. The
modulation circuit, which is composed of a quantizer, a resonator, and
a comparator, is capable of eliminating correlated modulation noise
while doing modulation. The proposed modulation scheme combined
with the linear quadratic optimal control is applied to a single-phase
voltage source inverter and validated with the experiment results. The
experiments show that the inverter supplies stable 60Hz 110V AC
power with a total harmonic distortion of less than 1%, under the DC
input variation from 190 V to 300 V and the output power variation
from 0 to 600 W.
Abstract: This analysis investigates the distortion of flow
measurement and the increase of cavitation along orifice
flowmeter. The analysis using the numerical method (CFD)
validated the distortion of flow measurement through the inlet
velocity profile considering the convergence and grid
dependency. Realizable k-e model was selected and y+ was
about 50 in this numerical analysis. This analysis also estimated
the vulnerability of cavitation effect due to inlet velocity profile.
The investigation concludes that inclined inlet velocity profile
could vary the pressure which was measured at pressure tab
near pipe wall and it led to distort the pressure values ranged
from -3.8% to 5.3% near the orifice plate and to make the
increase of cavitation. The investigation recommends that the
fully developed inlet velocity flow is beneficial to accurate flow
measurement in orifice flowmeter.
Abstract: In this paper we present a novel technique for data
hiding in binary document images. We use the concept of entropy in
order to identify document specific least distortive areas throughout
the binary document image. The document image is treated as any
other image and the proposed method utilizes the standard document
characteristics for the embedding process. Proposed method
minimizes perceptual distortion due to embedding and allows
watermark extraction without the requirement of any side information
at the decoder end.
Abstract: Owing to the stringent environmental legislations,
CO2 capture and sequestration is one of the viable solutions to reduce
the CO2 emissions from various sources. In this context, Ionic liquids
(ILs) are being investigated as suitable absorption media for CO2
capture. Due to their non-evaporative, non-toxic, and non-corrosive
nature, these ILs have the potential to replace the existing solvents
like aqueous amine solutions for CO2 separation technologies. Thus,
the present work aims at studying the important aspects such as the
interactions of CO2 molecule with different anions (F-, Br-, Cl-, NO3
-,
BF4
-, PF6
-, Tf2N-, and CF3SO3
-) that are commonly used in ILs
through molecular modeling. In this, the minimum energy structures
have been obtained using Ab initio based calculations at MP2
(Moller-Plesset perturbation) level. Results revealed various degrees
of distortion of CO2 molecule (from its linearity) with the anions
studied, most likely due to the Lewis acid-base interactions between
CO2 and anion. Furthermore, binding energies for the anion-CO2
complexes were also calculated. The implication of anion-CO2
interactions to the solubility of CO2 in ionic liquids is also discussed.

one of the most used techniques to generate sinusoidal voltage and
current due to its facility and efficiency with low harmonics
distortion. This algorithm is specially used in power electronic
applications. This paper describes simulation algorithm of SVPWM

closed loop three phases DC-AC converter controlling its outputs
voltages amplitude and frequency using MatLab. Also comparison
between SVPWM & SPWM results is given.
Abstract: The huge development of new technologies and the
apparition of open communication system more and more
sophisticated create a new challenge to protect digital content from
piracy. Digital watermarking is a recent research axis and a new
technique suggested as a solution to these problems. This technique
consists in inserting identification information (watermark) into
digital data (audio, video, image, databases...) in an invisible and
indelible manner and in such a way not to degrade original medium-s
quality. Moreover, we must be able to correctly extract the
watermark despite the deterioration of the watermarked medium (i.e
attacks). In this paper we propose a system for watermarking satellite
images. We chose to embed the watermark into frequency domain,
precisely the discrete wavelet transform (DWT). We applied our
algorithm on satellite images of Tunisian center. The experiments
show satisfying results. In addition, our algorithm showed an
important resistance facing different attacks, notably the compression
(JEPG, JPEG2000), the filtering, the histogram-s manipulation and
geometric distortions such as rotation, cropping, scaling.
Abstract: This paper presents a formant-tracking linear prediction
(FTLP) model for speech processing in noise. The main focus of this
work is the detection of formant trajectory based on Hidden Markov
Models (HMM), for improved formant estimation in noise. The
approach proposed in this paper provides a systematic framework for
modelling and utilization of a time- sequence of peaks which satisfies
continuity constraints on parameter; the within peaks are modelled
by the LP parameters. The formant tracking LP model estimation
is composed of three stages: (1) a pre-cleaning multi-band spectral
subtraction stage to reduce the effect of residue noise on formants
(2) estimation stage where an initial estimate of the LP model of
speech for each frame is obtained (3) a formant classification using
probability models of formants and Viterbi-decoders. The evaluation
results for the estimation of the formant tracking LP model tested
in Gaussian white noise background, demonstrate that the proposed
combination of the initial noise reduction stage with formant tracking
and LPC variable order analysis, results in a significant reduction in
errors and distortions. The performance was evaluated with noisy
natual vowels extracted from international french and English vocabulary
speech signals at SNR value of 10dB. In each case, the
estimated formants are compared to reference formants.
Abstract: A 10bit, 40 MSps, sample and hold, implemented in 0.18-μm CMOS technology with 3.3V supply, is presented for application in the front-end stage of an analog-to-digital converter. Topology selection, biasing, compensation and common mode feedback are discussed. Cascode technique has been used to increase the dc gain. The proposed opamp provides 149MHz unity-gain bandwidth (wu), 80 degree phase margin and a differential peak to peak output swing more than 2.5v. The circuit has 55db Total Harmonic Distortion (THD), using the improved fully differential two stage operational amplifier of 91.7dB gain. The power dissipation of the designed sample and hold is 4.7mw. The designed system demonstrates relatively suitable response in different process, temperature and supply corners (PVT corners).
Abstract: As wind, solar and other clean and green energy
sources gain popularity worldwide, engineers are seeking ways to
make renewable energy systems more affordable and to integrate
them with existing ac power grids. In the present paper an attempt
has been made for integrating the PV arrays to the smart nano grid
using an artificial intelligent (AI) based solar powered cascade multilevel
inverter. The AI based controller switching scheme has been
used for improving the power quality by reducing the Total Harmonic
Distortion (THD) of the multi-level inverter output voltage.
Abstract: In this paper the application of neuro-fuzzy system for equalization of channel distortion is considered. The structure and operation algorithm of neuro-fuzzy equalizer are described. The use of neuro-fuzzy equalizer in digital signal transmission allows to decrease training time of parameters and decrease the complexity of the network. The simulation of neuro-fuzzy equalizer is performed. The obtained result satisfies the efficiency of application of neurofuzzy technology in channel equalization.
Abstract: In this paper, we consider a designed and
implemented phase-cutting dimmer. In fact, the dimmer is closed
loop and a microcontroller calculates and then regulates the firing
delay angles of each channel. Depending on the firing angle, the
harmonic distortion in the input current will not comply with
international standards, such as IEC 61000-3-2 (class C equipments).
For solving this problem, eight harmonic compensators have been
added to the dimmer. So, the proposed dimmer has a little harmonic
distortion in the input current whereas conventional phase-cutting
dimmers are not so. Sensitivity and removed THD of the proposed
dimmer will be presented.
Abstract: This research is to study the types of products and
services that employs 'ambient media and respective techniques in its
advertisement materials. Data collection has been done via analyses of a total of 62 advertisements that employed ambient media
approach in Thailand during the years 2004 to 2011. The 62 advertisement were qualifying advertisements of the Adman Awards
& Symposium under the category of Outdoor & Ambience. Analysis
results reveal that there is a total of 14 products and services that
chooses to utilize ambient media in its advertisement. Amongst all ambient media techniques, 'intrusion' uses the value of a medium in
its representation of content most often. Following intrusion is 'interaction', where consumers are invited to participate and interact
with the advertising materials. 'Illusion' ranks third in its ability to subject the viewers to distortions of reality that makes the division
between reality and fantasy less clear.
Abstract: Heating is inevitable in any bearing operation. This
leads to not only the thinning of the lubricant but also could lead to a
thermal deformation of the bearing. The present work is an attempt to
analyze the influence of thermal deformation on the thermohydrodynamic
lubrication of infinitely long tilted pad slider rough
bearings. As a consequence of heating the slider is deformed and is
assumed to take a parabolic shape. Also the asperities expand leading
to smaller effective film thickness. Two different types of surface
roughness are considered: longitudinal roughness and transverse
roughness. Christensen-s stochastic approach is used to derive the
Reynolds-type equations. Density and viscosity are considered to be
temperature dependent. The modified Reynolds equation, momentum
equation, continuity equation and energy equation are decoupled and
solved using finite difference method to yield various bearing
characteristics. From the numerical simulations it is observed that the
performance of the bearing is significantly affected by the thermal
distortion of the slider and asperities and even the parallel sliders
seem to carry some load.
