Abstract: In this study, synthesis of biomemitic patterned nano
hydroxyapatite-starch biocomposites using different concentration of
starch to evaluate effect of polymer alteration on biocomposites
structural properties has been reported. Formation of hydroxyapatite
nano particles was confirmed by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and Fourier
transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR). Size and morphology of the
samples were characterized using scanning and transmission electron
microscopy (SEM and TEM). It seems that by increasing starch
content, the more active site of polymer (oxygen atoms) can be
provided for interaction with Ca2+ followed by phosphate and
hydroxyl group.
Abstract: Post cracking behavior and load –bearing capacity of
the steel fiber reinforced high-strength concrete (SFRHSC) are
dependent on the number of fibers are crossing the weakest crack
(bridged the crack) and their orientation to the crack surface. Filling
the mould by SFRHSC, fibers are moving and rotating with the
concrete matrix flow till the motion stops in each internal point of the
concrete body. Filling the same mould from the different ends
SFRHSC samples with the different internal structures (and different
strength) can be obtained. Numerical flow simulations (using Newton
and Bingham flow models) were realized, as well as single fiber
planar motion and rotation numerical and experimental investigation
(in viscous flow) was performed. X-ray pictures for prismatic
samples were obtained and internal fiber positions and orientations
were analyzed. Similarly fiber positions and orientations in cracked
cross-section were recognized and were compared with numerically
simulated. Structural SFRHSC fracture model was created based on
single fiber pull-out laws, which were determined experimentally.
Model predictions were validated by 15x15x60cm prisms 4 point
bending tests.
Abstract: Electrochemical-oxidation of Reactive Black-5 (RB- 5) was conducted for degradation using DSA type Ti/RuO2-SnO2- Sb2O5 electrode. In the study, for electro-oxidation, electrode was indigenously fabricated in laboratory using titanium as substrate. This substrate was coated using different metal oxides RuO2, Sb2O5 and SnO2 by thermal decomposition method. Laboratory scale batch reactor was used for degradation and decolorization studies at pH 2, 7 and 11. Current density (50mA/cm2) and distance between electrodes (8mm) were kept constant for all experiments. Under identical conditions, removal of color, COD and TOC at initial pH 2 was 99.40%, 55% and 37% respectively for initial concentration of 100 mg/L RB-5. Surface morphology and composition of the fabricated electrode coatings were characterized using scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX) respectively. Coating microstructure was analyzed by X-ray diffraction (XRD). Results of this study further revealed that almost 90% of oxidation occurred within 5-10 minutes.
Abstract: Purpose of this paper is two-folded. At first it explains
the major problems that are causing stagnation in brownfield
redevelopment. In addition, these problems given the context of the
present multi-actor built environment are becoming more complex to
observe. Therefore, this paper suggests also a prospective decisionmaking
approach that is the most appropriate to observe and react on
the given stagnation problems. Such an approach should be regarded
as prescriptive-interactive decision-making approach, a barely
established branch. This approach should offer models that have
prescriptive as well as an interactive component enabling them to
successfully cope with the multi-actor environment. Overall, this
paper provides up-to-date insight on the brownfield stagnation by
gradually introducing the nowadays major problems and offers a
prospective decision-making approach how these problems could be
tackled.
Abstract: Opportunistic network is a kind of Delay Tolerant Networks (DTN) where the nodes in this network come into contact with each other opportunistically and communicate wirelessly and, an end-to-end path between source and destination may have never existed, and disconnection and reconnection is common in the network. In such a network, because of the nature of opportunistic network, perhaps there is no a complete path from source to destination for most of the time and even if there is a path; the path can be very unstable and may change or break quickly. Therefore, routing is one of the main challenges in this environment and, in order to make communication possible in an opportunistic network, the intermediate nodes have to play important role in the opportunistic routing protocols. In this paper we proposed an Adaptive Fuzzy Routing in opportunistic network (AFRON). This protocol is using the simple parameters as input parameters to find the path to the destination node. Using Message Transmission Count, Message Size and Time To Live parameters as input fuzzy to increase delivery ratio and decrease the buffer consumption in the all nodes of network.
Abstract: The main aim of this paper is to develop and calibrate
an econometric model for modeling prices of long term electricity
futures contracts. The calibration of our model is performed on data
from EEX AG allowing us to capture the specific features of German
electricity market. The data sample contains several structural breaks
which have to be taken into account for modeling. We model the data
with an ARIMAX model which reveals high correlation between the
price of electricity futures contracts and prices of LT futures
contracts of fuels (namely coal, natural gas and crude oil). Besides
this, also a share price index of representative electricity companies
traded on Xetra, spread between 10Y and 1Y German bonds and
exchange rate between EUR and USD appeared to have significant
explanatory power over these futures contracts on EEX.
Abstract: We numerically study the three-dimensional
magnetohydrodynamics (MHD) stability of oscillatory natural
convection flow in a rectangular cavity, with free top surface, filled
with a liquid metal, having an aspect ratio equal to A=L/H=5, and
subjected to a transversal temperature gradient and a uniform
magnetic field oriented in x and z directions. The finite volume
method was used in order to solve the equations of continuity,
momentum, energy, and potential. The stability diagram obtained in
this study highlights the dependence of the critical value of the
Grashof number Grcrit , with the increase of the Hartmann number
Ha for two orientations of the magnetic field. This study confirms
the possibility of stabilization of a liquid metal flow in natural
convection by application of a magnetic field and shows that the
flow stability is more important when the direction of magnetic field
is longitudinal than when the direction is transversal.
Abstract: Recognizing behavioral patterns of financial markets
is essential for traders. Japanese candlestick chart is a common tool to
visualize and analyze such patterns in an economic time series. Since
the world was introduced to Japanese candlestick charting, traders
saw how combining this tool with intelligent technical approaches
creates a powerful formula for the savvy investors.
This paper propose a generalization to box counting method of
Grassberger-Procaccia, which is based on computing the correlation
dimension of Japanese candlesticks instead commonly used 'close'
points. The results of this method applied on several foreign
exchange rates vs. IRR (Iranian Rial). Satisfactorily show lower
chaotic dimension of Japanese candlesticks series than regular
Grassberger-Procaccia method applied merely on close points of
these same candles. This means there is some valuable information
inside candlesticks.
Abstract: Triglycerides and their derivatives are considered as viable alternatives for diesel fuels. Rice bran oil is used as diesel fuel. Highly viscous rice bran oil can be reduced by blending it with diesel fuel. The present research is aimed to investigate experimentally the performance, exhaust emission and combustion characteristics of a direct injection (DI) diesel engine, typically used in agricultural sector, over the entire load range when fuelled with rice bran oil and diesel fuel blends, RB10 (10% rice bran oil + 90% diesel fuel) to RB50. The performance, emission and combustion parameters of RB20 were found to be very close to neat diesel fuel (ND). The injector opening pressure (IOP) undoubtedly is of prime importance in diesel engine operation. Performance, emission and combustion characteristics with RB30 at enhanced IOPs are better than ND. Improved premixed heat release rate were noticed with RB30 when the IOP is enhanced.
Abstract: The development and application of wind power for
renewable energy has attracted growing interest in recent years. Renewable energy sources are attracting much alteration as they can
reduce both environmental damage and dependence on fossil fuels. With the growing need for sustainable energy supplies, a case is made
for decentralized, stand-alone power supplies (SAPS) as an alternative to power grids. In the era which traditional petroleum energy resource
decreasing and the green house affect significant increasing, the development and usage of regenerative resources is inevitable. Due to the contribution of the pioneers, the development of regenerative resources already has a remarkable achievement; however, in the view of economy and quantity, it is still a long road for regenerative energy
to replace traditional petroleum energy. In our prospective, in stead of
investigate larger regenerative energy equipment, it is much wiser to
think about the blind side and breakthrough of the current technique.
Abstract: Design of Converter transformer insulation is a major
challenge. The insulation of these transformers is stressed by both
AC and DC voltages. Particle contamination is one of the major
problems in insulation structures, as they generate partial discharges
leading it to major failure of insulation. Similarly corona discharges
occur in transformer insulation. This partial discharge due to particle
movement / corona formation in insulation structure under different
voltage wave shapes, are different. In the present study, UHF
technique is adopted to understand the discharge activity and could
be realized that the characteristics of UHF signal generated under
low and high fields are different. In the case of corona generated
signal, the frequency content of the UHF sensor output lies in the
range 0.3-1.2 GHz and is not much varied except for its increase in
magnitude of discharge with the increase in applied voltage. It is
realized that the current signal injected due to partial
discharges/corona is about 4ns duration measured for first one half
cycle. Wavelet technique is adopted in the present study. It allows
one to identify the frequency content present in the signal at different
instant of time. The STD-MRA analysis helps one to identify the
frequency band in which the energy content of the UHF signal is
maximum.
Abstract: Modern building automation needs to deal with very
different types of demands, depending on the use of a building and the
persons acting in it. To meet the requirements of situation awareness
in modern building automation, scenario recognition becomes more
and more important in order to detect sequences of events and to react
to them properly. We present two concepts of scenario recognition
and their implementation, one based on predefined templates and the
other applying an unsupervised learning algorithm using statistical
methods. Implemented applications will be described and their advantages
and disadvantages will be outlined.
Abstract: The performances of a thermoacoustic travelling-wave
refrigerator are presented. Developed in the frame of the European
project called THATEA, it is designed for providing 600 W at a
temperature of 233 K with an efficiency of 40 % relative to the
Carnot efficiency. This paper presents the device and the results of
the first measurements. For a cooling power of 210 W, a coefficient
of performance relative to Carnot of 30 % is achieved when the
refrigerator is coupled with an existing standing-wave engine.
Abstract: Microwave heating process has been developed about sixty years while measurement system has also progressed. Because of irradiation of high frequency of microwave, researchers have been utilized many costly technical instrument measuring parameters to evaluate the performance of microwave heating system. Therefore, this paper is intended to present an easier and feasible efficiency measurement method. It can help inspecting efficiency of microwave heating system with good accuracy, while the method can also give reference to optimizing procedure for microwave heating system for various load material
Abstract: Solid oxide fuel cells have been considered in the last years as one of the most promising technologies for very highefficiency electric energy generation from hydrogen or other hydrocarbons, both with simple fuel cell plants and with integrated gas turbine-fuel cell systems. In the present study, a detailed thermodynamic analysis has been carried out. Mass and exergy balances are performed not only for the whole plant but also for each component in order to evaluate the thermal efficiency of combined cycle. Moreover, different sources of irreversibilities within the SOFC stack have been discussed and a parametric study conducted to evaluate the effect of temperature as well as pressure on SOFC irreversibilities and its performance. In this investigation methane and hydrogen have been used for fueling the SOFC stack and combustion chamber.
Abstract: Collected data must be organized to be utilized efficiently, and hierarchical classification of data is efficient approach to organize data. When data is classified to multiple categories or annotated with a set of labels, users request multi-labeled data by giving a set of labels. There are several interpretations of the data expressed by a set of labels. This paper discusses which data is expressed by a set of labels by introducing orders for sets of labels and shows that there are four types of orders, which are characterized by whether the labels of expressed data includes every label of the given set of labels within the range of the set. Desirable properties of the orders, data is also expressed by the higher set of labels and different sets of labels express different data, are discussed for the orders.
Abstract: In this work, statistical experimental design was
applied for the optimization of medium constituents for Gentamicin
production by Micromsonospora echinospora subs pallida (MTCC
708) in a batch reactor and the results are compared with the ANN
predicted values. By central composite design, 50 experiments are
carried out for five test variables: Starch, Soya bean meal, K2HPO4,
CaCO3 and FeSO4. The optimum condition was found to be: Starch
(8.9,g/L), Soya bean meal (3.3 g/L), K2HPO4 (0.8 g/L), CaCO3 (4
g/L) and FeSO4 (0.03 g/L). At these optimized conditions, the yield
of gentamicin was found to be 1020 mg/L. The R2 values were found
to be 1 for ANN training set, 0.9953 for ANN test set, and 0.9286 for
RSM.

random lifetimes and series (parallel) system having homogeneous
exponential components with random lifetimes has been studied.
Further, conditions under which such a comparison is possible has
been established.
Abstract: This paper presents an information retrieval model on
XML documents based on tree matching. Queries and documents are
represented by extended trees. An extended tree is built starting from
the original tree, with additional weighted virtual links between each
node and its indirect descendants allowing to directly reach each
descendant. Therefore only one level separates between each node
and its indirect descendants. This allows to compare the user query
and the document with flexibility and with respect to the structural
constraints of the query. The content of each node is very important to
decide weither a document element is relevant or not, thus the content
should be taken into account in the retrieval process. We separate
between the structure-based and the content-based retrieval processes.
The content-based score of each node is commonly based on the
well-known Tf × Idf criteria. In this paper, we compare between
this criteria and another one we call Tf × Ief. The comparison
is based on some experiments into a dataset provided by INEX1 to
show the effectiveness of our approach on one hand and those of
both weighting functions on the other.
Abstract: Detection and recognition of the Human Body Composition and extraction their measures (width and length of human body) in images are a major issue in detecting objects and the important field in Image, Signal and Vision Computing in recent years. Finding people and extraction their features in Images are particularly important problem of object recognition, because people can have high variability in the appearance. This variability may be due to the configuration of a person (e.g., standing vs. sitting vs. jogging), the pose (e.g. frontal vs. lateral view), clothing, and variations in illumination. In this study, first, Human Body is being recognized in image then the measures of Human Body extract from the image.
