Abstract: New generation mobile communication networks have
the ability of supporting triple play. In order that, Orthogonal
Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) access techniques have
been chosen to enlarge the system ability for high data rates
networks. Many of cross-layer modeling and optimization schemes
for Quality of Service (QoS) and capacity of downlink multiuser
OFDM system were proposed. In this paper, the Maximum Weighted
Capacity (MWC) based resource allocation at the Physical (PHY)
layer is used. This resource allocation scheme provides a much better
QoS than the previous resource allocation schemes, while
maintaining the highest or nearly highest capacity and costing similar
complexity. In addition, the Delay Satisfaction (DS) scheduling at the
Medium Access Control (MAC) layer, which allows more than one
connection to be served in each slot is used. This scheduling
technique is more efficient than conventional scheduling to
investigate both of the number of users as well as the number of
subcarriers against system capacity. The system will be optimized for
different operational environments: the outdoor deployment scenarios
as well as the indoor deployment scenarios are investigated and also
for different channel models. In addition, effective capacity approach
[1] is used not only for providing QoS for different mobile users, but
also to increase the total wireless network's throughput.
Abstract: Nowadays, people are going more and more mobile, both in terms of devices and associated applications. Moreover, services that these devices are offering are getting wider and much more complex. Even though actual handheld devices have considerable computing power, their contexts of utilization are different. These contexts are affected by the availability of connection, high latency of wireless networks, battery life, size of the screen, on-screen or hard keyboard, etc. Consequently, development of mobile applications and their associated mobile Web services, if any, should follow a concise methodology so they will provide a high Quality of Service. The aim of this paper is to highlight and discuss main issues to consider when developing mobile applications and mobile Web services and then propose a framework that leads developers through different steps and modules toward development of efficient and secure mobile applications. First, different challenges in developing such applications are elicited and deeply discussed. Second, a development framework is presented with different modules addressing each of these challenges. Third, the paper presents an example of a mobile application, Eivom Cinema Guide, which benefits from following our development framework.
Abstract: Today, the Internet based communication has widen
the opportunity of event monitoring system in the medical field.
There is always a need of analyzing and designing secure and reliable
mobile communication between the hospital and biomedical
engineers mobile units. This study has been carried out to find
possible solution using SIP-based event notification for alerting the
technical staff about the Biomedical Device (BMD) status and
Patients treatment session. The Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) can
be used to create a medical event notification system. SIP can work
on a variety of devices. Its adoption as the protocol of choice for third
generation wireless networks allows for a robust and scalable
environment. One of the advantages of SIP is that it supports personal
mobility through the separation of user addressing and device
addressing. The solution for Telemed alert notification system is
based on SIP - Specific Event Notification. The aim of this project is
to extend mobility service to the hospital technicians who are using
Telemedicine system.
Abstract: Whereas cellular wireless communication systems are
subject to short-and long-term fading. The effect of wireless channel
has largely been ignored in most of the teletraffic assessment
researches. In this paper, a mathematical teletraffic model is proposed
to estimate blocking and forced termination probabilities of cellular
wireless networks as a result of teletraffic behavior as well as the
outage of the propagation channel. To evaluate the proposed
teletraffic model, gamma inter-arrival and general service time
distributions have been considered based on wireless channel fading
effect. The performance is evaluated and compared with the classical
model. The proposed model is dedicated and investigated in different
operational conditions. These conditions will consider not only the
arrival rate process, but also, the different faded channels models.
Abstract: The analysis of electromagnetic environment using
deterministic mathematical models is characterized by the
impossibility of analyzing a large number of interacting network
stations with a priori unknown parameters, and this is characteristic,
for example, of mobile wireless communication networks. One of the
tasks of the tools used in designing, planning and optimization of
mobile wireless network is to carry out simulation of electromagnetic
environment based on mathematical modelling methods, including
computer experiment, and to estimate its effect on radio
communication devices. This paper proposes the development of a
statistical model of electromagnetic environment of a mobile
wireless communication network by describing the parameters and
factors affecting it including the propagation channel and their
statistical models.
Abstract: Bandwidth allocation in wired network is less complex
and to allocate bandwidth in wireless networks is complex and
challenging, due to the mobility of source end system. This paper
proposes a new approach to bandwidth allocation to higher and lower
priority mobile nodes. In our proposal bandwidth allocation to new
mobile node is based on bandwidth utilization of existing mobile
nodes. The first section of the paper focuses on introduction to
bandwidth allocation in wireless networks and presents the existing
solutions available for allocation of bandwidth. The second section
proposes the new solution for the bandwidth allocation to higher and
lower priority nodes. Finally this paper ends with the analytical
evaluation of the proposed solution.
Abstract: The wireless adhoc network is comprised of wireless
node which can move freely and are connected among themselves
without central infrastructure. Due to the limited transmission range
of wireless interfaces, in most cases communication has to be relayed
over intermediate nodes. Thus, in such multihop network each node
(also called router) is independent, self-reliant and capable to route
the messages over the dynamic network topology. Various protocols
are reported in this field and it is very difficult to decide the best one.
A key issue in deciding which type of routing protocol is best for
adhoc networks is the communication overhead incurred by the
protocol. In this paper STAR a table driven and DSR on demand
protocols based on IEEE 802.11 are analyzed for their performance
on different performance measuring metrics versus varying traffic
CBR load using QualNet 5.0.2 network simulator.
Abstract: With the advantage of wireless network technology,
there are a variety of mobile applications which make the issue of
wireless sensor networks as a popular research area in recent years.
As the wireless sensor network nodes move arbitrarily with the
topology fast change feature, mobile nodes are often confronted with
the void issue which will initiate packet losing, retransmitting,
rerouting, additional transmission cost and power consumption.
When transmitting packets, we would not predict void problem
occurring in advance. Thus, how to improve geographic routing with
void avoidance in wireless networks becomes an important issue. In
this paper, we proposed a greedy geographical void routing algorithm
to solve the void problem for wireless sensor networks. We use the
information of source node and void area to draw two tangents to
form a fan range of the existence void which can announce voidavoiding
message. Then we use source and destination nodes to draw
a line with an angle of the fan range to select the next forwarding
neighbor node for routing. In a dynamic wireless sensor network
environment, the proposed greedy void avoiding algorithm can be
more time-saving and more efficient to forward packets, and improve
current geographical void problem of wireless sensor networks.
Abstract: Connected dominating set (CDS) problem in unit disk
graph has signi£cant impact on an ef£cient design of routing protocols
in wireless sensor networks, where the searching space for a
route is reduced to nodes in the set. A set is dominating if all the
nodes in the system are either in the set or neighbors of nodes in the
set. In this paper, a simple and ef£cient heuristic method is proposed
for £nding a minimum connected dominating set (MCDS) in ad hoc
wireless networks based on the new parameter support of vertices.
With this parameter the proposed heuristic approach effectively
£nds the MCDS of a graph. Extensive computational experiments
show that the proposed approach outperforms the recently proposed
heuristics found in the literature for the MCD
Abstract: In this paper, a mathematical model is proposed to
estimate the dropping probabilities of cellular wireless networks by
queuing handoff instead of reserving guard channels. Usually, prioritized
handling of handoff calls is done with the help of guard channel
reservation. To evaluate the proposed model, gamma inter-arrival and
general service time distributions have been considered. Prevention of
some of the attempted calls from reaching to the switching center due
to electromagnetic propagation failure or whimsical user behaviour
(missed call, prepaid balance etc.), make the inter-arrival time of
the input traffic to follow gamma distribution. The performance is
evaluated and compared with that of guard channel scheme.
Abstract: In this paper, to resolve the problem of existing
schemes, an alternative fast handover Proxy Mobile IPv6 (PMIPv6)
scheme using the IEEE 802.21 Media Independent Handover (MIH)
function is proposed for heterogeneous wireless networks. The proposed
scheme comes to support fast handover for the mobile node
(MN) irrespective of the presence or absence of MIH functionality
as well as L3 mobility functionality, whereas the MN in existing
schemes has to implement MIH functionality. That is, the proposed
scheme does not require the MN to be involved in MIH related signaling
required for handover procedure. The base station (BS) with MIH
functionality performs handover on behalf of the MN. Therefore, the
proposed scheme can reduce burden and power consumption of MNs
with limited resource and battery power since MNs are not required
to be involved for the handover procedure. In addition, the proposed
scheme can reduce considerably traffic overhead over wireless links
between MN and BS since signaling messages are reduced.
Abstract: This paper discusses a curriculum approach that will
give emphasis on practical portions of teaching network security
subjects in information and communication technology courses. As
we are well aware, the need to use a practice and application oriented
approach in education is paramount. Research on active learning and
cooperative groups have shown that students grasps more and have
more tendency towards obtaining and realizing soft skills like
leadership, communication and team work as opposed to the more
traditional theory and exam based teaching and learning. While this
teaching and learning paradigm is relatively new in Malaysia, it has
been practiced widely in the West. This paper examines a certain
approach whereby students learning wireless security are divided into
and work in small and manageable groups where there will be 2
teams which consist of black hat and white hat teams. The former
will try to find and expose vulnerabilities in a wireless network while
the latter will try their best to prevent such attacks on their wireless
networks using hardware, software, design and enforcement of
security policy and etc. This paper will try to show that the approach
taken plus the use of relevant and up to date software and hardware
and with suitable environment setting will hopefully expose students
to a more fruitful outcome in terms of understanding of concepts,
theories and their motivation to learn.
Abstract: Nowadays wireless technology plays an important
role in public and personal communication. However, the growth of
wireless networking has confused the traditional boundaries between
trusted and untrusted networks. Wireless networks are subject to a
variety of threats and attacks at present. An attacker has the ability to
listen to all network traffic which becoming a potential intrusion.
Intrusion of any kind may lead to a chaotic condition. In addition,
improperly configured access points also contribute the risk to
wireless network. To overcome this issue, a security solution that
includes an intrusion detection and prevention system need to be
implemented. In this paper, first the security drawbacks of wireless
network will be analyzed then investigate the characteristics and also
the limitations on current wireless intrusion detection and prevention
system. Finally, the requirement of next wireless intrusion prevention
system will be identified including some key issues which should be
focused on in the future to overcomes those limitations.
Abstract: In this paper, we first consider the quality of service
problems in heterogeneous wireless networks for sending the video
data, which their problem of being real-time is pronounced. At last,
we present a method for ensuring the end-to-end quality of service at
application layer level for adaptable sending of the video data at
heterogeneous wireless networks. To do this, mechanism in different
layers has been used. We have used the stop mechanism, the
adaptation mechanism and the graceful degrade at the application
layer, the multi-level congestion feedback mechanism in the network
layer and connection cutting off decision mechanism in the link
layer. At the end, the presented method and the achieved
improvement is simulated and presented in the NS-2 software.
Abstract: The importance of our country-s communication
system is noticeable when a disaster occurs. The communication
system in our country includes wired and wireless telephone
networks, radio, satellite system and more increasingly internet. Even
though our communication system is most extensive and dependable,
extreme conditions can put a strain on them. Interoperability between
heterogeneous wireless networks can be used to provide efficient
communication for emergency first response. IEEE 802.21 specifies
Media Independent Handover (MIH) services to enhance the mobile
user experience by optimizing handovers between heterogeneous
access networks. This paper presents an algorithm to improve
congestion control in MIH framework. It is analytically shown that
by including time factor in network selection we can optimize
congestion in the network.
Abstract: In real-time networks a large number of application programs are relying on video data and heterogeneous data transmission techniques. The aim of this research is presenting a method for end-to-end vouch quality service in surface applicationlayer for sending video data in comparison form in wireless heterogeneous networks. This method tries to improve the video sending over the wireless heterogeneous networks with used techniques in surface layer, link and application. The offered method is showing a considerable improvement in quality observing by user. In addition to this, other specifications such as shortage of data load that had require to resending and limited the relation period length to require time for second data sending, help to be used the offered method in the wireless devices that have a limited energy. The presented method and the achieved improvement is simulated and presented in the NS-2 software.
Abstract: In this study, we propose a network architecture for
providing secure access to information resources of enterprise
network from remote locations in a wireless fashion. Our proposed
architecture offers a very promising solution for organizations which
are in need of a secure, flexible and cost-effective remote access
methodology. Security of the proposed architecture is based on
Virtual Private Network technology and a special role based access
control mechanism with location and time constraints. The flexibility
mainly comes from the use of Internet as the communication medium
and cost-effectiveness is due to the possibility of in-house
implementation of the proposed architecture.
Abstract: Routing places an important role in determining the
quality of service in wireless networks. The routing methods adopted
in wireless networks have many drawbacks. This paper aims to
review the current routing methods used in wireless networks. This
paper proposes an innovative solution to overcome the problems in
routing. This solution is aimed at improving the Quality of Service.
This solution is different from others as it involves the resuage of the
part of the virtual circuits. This improvement in quality of service is
important especially in propagation of multimedia applications like
video, animations etc. So it is the dire need to propose a new solution
to improve the quality of service in ATM wireless networks for
multimedia applications especially during this era of multimedia
based applications.
